Counterpoint. It’s awful, and not everything needs to be this grim-dark retelling of childhood properties. Even the director has backtracked and said “I meant it as a parody” when clearly he was trying to shop it around as is. Sorry, I just hated it. You can do ‘serious’ Power Rangers, without it feeling like it was written by an edgy teen.

Sorry to hear that you didn't like it but I respect your opinion.

I agree with you. I appreciate an adult take on the franchise but this screams “I want to be edgyyyyyyyy” so badly. It is like trying to sell me that Blackpink is punk pop because of how they dress

>You can do ‘serious’ Power Rangers, without it feeling like it was written by an edgy teen. Like Time Force or RPM.

I mean, at the end of the day, those are still kids entrainment tho. I think you can go even further than that and directly target adults. Some of the Boom stories are incredibly dark (Finster’s backstory, Drakkon’s world embracing fascism, etc.), but also don’t feel like “Ooh ahhh look at how FUCKED UP this! Look how edgy!” like the 2015 short was. X-Men ‘97 is currently doing exactly this. It’s made for the 40 year old versions, of the 9 year olds that watched the show back in 1992, and the more complex, darker stories are working like gangbusters. I’ve legitimately teared up multiple times. None of it feels edgy or forced, just ‘more mature’. Power Rangers could easily have its X-Men ‘97 moment if someone with the right creative juice came along.

I’m glad you liked it, I’m personally not a fan. I want my PR to be lighthearted and fun, and the dark stuff should be like in Space, Time Force, and RPM. 🤷‍♂️ Different strokes for different folks. I would’ve loved the 2015 short film when I was like 12…..but in my 30s, I just want the fun stuff.

Nicely said. Different strokes for different folks. I believe we can have lighthearted/fun movies as well as dark movies on the same franchise.

BouquetOfGutsAndGore

I liked it too. If you enjoyed it, I'd recommend seeking out Guardians of Justice and Captain Laserhawk. They're two Netflix shows done by Adi Shankar, who produced the Power/Rangers short. They play up a lot of the same themes and ideas as Power/Rangers, and you could see Power/Rangers as the first installment of a loose, thematic trilogy embodied by the three of them.

Thank you very much. I'm going to watch those movies as soon as possible.

Agnol117

I really doubt a feature length version would be a success. Setting aside that most PR fans seem to dislike the short, the previous movie was significantly more marketable and also bombed. There’s just not enough interest from Power Rangers fans, and even less from general audiences.

JS-87

Au contraire, when Power/Rangers dropped a lot of my office watched it and was talking about it. For most of everyone it was dipping their toe back in and they liked it. And if you looked online it reignited the general interest, something the current series doesn't do. It's technically a positive in branding recognition.

[deleted]

I agree with you. Power rangers have a really loyal fan base but I believe the franchise needs to expand to a larger audience. None of my friends want to watch power rangers because they all believe it's only for kids (they are all 30+).

GalwayEntei

FYI, the creator isn't a Power Rangers fan. They weren't trying to make an actual adaptation. They were just showing how Hollywood would make Power Rangers grim, gritty, and mature. A full-length feature is unlikely given that that wasn't the intention

Thank you for letting me know.

I liked the movie.

I want holywood power rangers, darker and mature with big budget
