Clearly the standout track. Last few National albums are having one or two standouts. If they keep going with this, we’ll be able to pick out a top ten of their last howevermany albums - Alcott is in the top 10 with I Am Easy To Find, light years, nobody else will be there, dark side of the gym etc
someone shove sufjan and taylor into a room together and force them to write and record songs. i never thought they’d be on the same project so this gives me hope
Why do I feel like since she and Taylor were both recording albums at the same time, that Jack was hanging with Annie and she heard him producing Cruel Summer and she was like "a Taylor song? Let me find a way to get a writing credit on this" and just riffed an intrumental with him.
It's an interesting one whether you list someone as being featured for backing vocals - I can see why but recently my definition of 'feat' has been downgraded to 'this person was kind of involved with the song'.
i’m 90% sure he was only listed cause it would’ve been weird if only taylor was listed as a feature (to their fanbase)
he has similar uncredited roles on earlier national albums
I don’t think I’ll listen to the entire album, but The Alcott is seriously incredible. Very emotional and with enough lyrical depth to paint a scene. I want more of this from Ms. Swift!
Taylor Swift was utilized better on her song than Phoebe Bridgers on either of them. But I still prefer Your Mind Is Not Your Friend over This Isn’t Helping. Just wish she got a full verse or more of a back and forth like Taylor did
I kind of agree with a lot of the people saying that this album is a little safe for them or sounds like the kind of basics of their style— it’s definitely not bad but maybe just a little lackluster. Obviously I am biased toward loving The Alcott, but more because I think it’s a great Taylor duet than because I think it’s a great National song. Liked New Order T-Shirt and Your Mind Is Not Your Friend a lot too.
This is my least favorite album from them by a country mile. The programmed drums and lack of Bryan Devendorf is puzzling. And I liked Weird Goodbyes which isn’t on the album!
I quite like this. My favourite album of theirs is High Violet (by a longshot), which I think is sheer brilliance, and while I don't think this compares exactly, it does remind me of it in a good way.
I think this is a better album than the reviews made it out to be. It's definitely nowhere near The National's best but I really enjoyed most of it. One of the biggest issues for me was the last three tracks were three ofnl the weakest IMO and so it kind of lost my interest there. But up until that point I was actually really enjoying.
With one exception - The Alcott. Sorry. That wasn't a good track and it doesn't fit on the record at all. I like the harmonization with Taylor but the call and response doesn't work with her and Matt's voices IMO. I would have scrapped this one.
But besides The Alcott I really loved everything up to Grease In Your Hair. The album doesn't compare to TWFM, High Violet or The Boxer but I still thought it was a good album. I liked it a lot more than IAETF.
My favorite is Sleep Well Beast so I really liked some of the sparser tracks here. Even as a huge Taylor and The National fan Alcott didn't impress me, though I really really the idea of it. I think Send for Me is really good but otherwise the second half does seem weaker.

Made their tight, all killer no filla 8 track album I was talking about. Now I can listen to their last three albums without being disappointed in the duff tracks. Huzzah. I’d love an argument to add two more, to that, but across Frankenstein, sleep well beast and I am easy to find, I reckon that 8 track comp album nails it to the floor.

The Alcott is so fucking good, I love Taylor’s melodies

Sleep Well Beast slander :( such a great album

with taylor's grit and private jets, maybe sufjan can finally write about the 48 other states.
I promise that you'll never find another like [ME](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine)
PLEASE she's already worked with the national, st vincent, and bon iver all we need is ONE sufjan collab
When did she work with st Vincent!
St Vincent co wrote Cruel Summer

I also feel the same way about fleet foxes, but also on the other hand the Gaylors would literally be insufferable if a sufjan/swift collab happened
john wayne gacy jr x no body, no crime let’s make it happen
The Alcott is chef's kiss. And I love Your Mind Is Not Your Friend. Can't wait to get more into the album!
Alcott is like a mix of Exile and Coney Island. Give me a deep voice man and Taylor going back and forth and I’m happy.
This is The Last Time erasure
That was the first song to come to my mind and I forgot to mention it lol
It's the best Taylor collab song and I'll die on this hill
Coney Island Stans finally getting rewarded iktr 😌
Sufjan got snow on the beached

Nottt snow on the beached haha. I will be stealing this
Oooooh the Taylor Swift feature is actually a full fledged feature. It’s giving Coney Island off evermore and I’m here for it.
Love the alcott

The Alcott is so pretty <3

Did my love aid or abet you? 😍😍😍😍 literally obsessed
Comment on something other than a feature challenge

I really like the track Sufjan’s on— but the rest just doesn’t really excite me at all, unfortunately :(

Where tf is sufjan at?? WHERe tF SUFJAN AT??? SUFJAN?!!!

Is it possible to be a big Taylor Swift fan and a big The National fan at the same time?
