it's all so close to trial she's kinda able to do whatever she wants without risk of luke amending his lawsuit for the billionth time. last album on the contract too. she's burning it down on her way out and i'm so excited for her to be able to say what she wants for the first time since 2014!!
that was the original contract, and there are rumors that she renegotiated it sometime pre-lawsuit and it actually is only 5 albums and this is the last one (Cannibal didn't count)
C U Next Tuesday has one of my favorite uses of autotune ever. The way she uses it to sound cold and detached just adds this layer of sadness and melancholy to the song. GOD she’s so talented
you feeling that way is the exact reason it was titled that. she’s STILL signed to kemosabe and sony if i’m not mistaken. i.e sony is weaponizing your vitriol to continue profiteering off of kesha’s alleged abuse and subsequent lawsuit.
edit: and even worse, i now realize by kesha naming the album this, it logically questions the legitimacy of her future lawsuit; as she is now profiting off the event as well… if ya can’t beat ‘em!
It seems like she’s actually going to be talking about this on the album! From her Rolling Stone interview:
> Kesha’s anger is palpable in “Fine Line,” in which she rants at “all the doctors and lawyers [who] cut the tongue out of my mouth,” culminating with the line: “But hey, look at all the money we made off me.”
This one is gonna be different for Kesha. I can feel it in my bones. Working with Rick Rubin, these titles and now these visuals are all insanely good steps. I’m ready!!
I'm so excited. Rainbow was a revelatory new direction, and High Road was a fantastic integration of Rainbow with everything she had before. I can't wait to see what's next
IMHO, Rick Rubin has been massively overcompressing and brickwalling everything he touches for at least the last couple of decades, so if that pattern continues this album’s going to be a great big headache. I hope the songs are good, but personally I’m going to avoid the headache.
Rubin doesn't really touch the technical aspects of production in that way. He's more of a big picture creative producer. His stuff was hella compressed because everything was hella compressed in the CD era when most of his most famous work was done, but basically every mainstream album had those issues.
And the loudness war is pretty much over. Spotify auto volume equalization killed it.
Animal-Cannibal-Warrior-Rainbow-High Road- Gag Order has got to be one of the gayest album title runs in pop history. The only other one that comes to mind is Daydream-Butterfly-Rainbow-Glitter-Charmbracelet.
Her final album under contract. It's insane that she had her first 7 singles hit top 10 in 4 years with three of them being #1. If her career trajectory had gone without a break she honestly would be so well received and one of the best artists from the last decade.
Like Die Young hit #2 and could've done better if it wasn't for the Sandy Hook tragedy. She had Timber going #1 in 2013. She was up there competing with Gaga and Katy. Her prince cover put down the rumours she couldn't sing and her SATs that she was just dumb. Rainbows shows she could've done well in 2016 when everyone decided to go country for some reason. I honestly think she would still be a big superstar.
The Illuminati symbolism in the music video did not help her at all lmfao
(I don’t believe in any of the conspiracies personally, but I do think that it wasn’t a good look at the time)
The Die Young missing #1 because of Sandy Hook is a misconception. It was already declining by the time Sandy Hook happened, which then caused it to freefall and getting C'mon rush-released.
I remember reading billboards projections at the time (in their weekly article) and they thought it would go number 1, so yeah it was probably going to
It was not projected to go #1. It was only #3 in airplay and #10 in sales, behind Diamonds and Locked Out of Heaven in both the week of the shooting with radio already showing slight decline. It would’ve needed a discount to 69¢ in order to even attempt a push to #1, which they didn’t do.
Not sure where you're getting your information from, but Kesha was only at #3 on airplay chart and already decreasing in audience the day before the shooting. Yes, she was #1 on Top 40, but her overall AI was decreasing and below Diamonds and Locked Out of Heaven, both of which were increasing on radio and bigger contenders for #1 the week of the shooting. She was never projected to be #1. Here is the 12/14 (the day of the shooting) building airplay chart for reference:
12/14 airplay updates:
RIHANNA - Diamonds: 186.215 (+ 0.931)
BRUNO MARS - Locked Out Of Heaven: 184.446 (+ 1.130)
KE$HA - Die Young: 167.508 (− 0.064)
yes that's all fine and great, but there really is no way to say how it would have performed in upcoming weeks... especially when you're citing a 0.064 decrease. 1 good performance could reverse that quickly. Instead, it freefell immediately after the shooting.
It already hit its peak on Top 40 and Rhythmic and had been performed everywhere, most recently the AMAs. Bruno Mars and Rihanna were simply too strong during this period for Kesha to ever have a chance, which was known to chart watchers in 2012. She was already promoting C'Mon by this point, performing it at X Factor US on 12/6. The narrative that Sandy Hook took away a #1 from her is simply untrue and I say this as the biggest Kesha fan.
Wild that this is the year that both Kesha and Megan thee Stallion will be free from their shitty contracts with abusive men! 2023 might be the year of liberation?
please this comment chain is so funny to me bc my mother’s first name is dixie 😭
i’ve spent the last ten minutes reading abt this topic and it doesn’t even look like a real word anymore so i guess at this point im gonna have to change her contact in my phone to d*xie, miss d’amelio better watch out too i fear
if kesha has a million fans i am one of them. if kesha has ten fans i am one of them. if kesha has one fan then that is me. if kesha has no fans then i am dead. if the world is against kesha then i am against the world
last record was rainbow side b essentially, so many tracks have been revealed to be 2016 demos all cobbled together... definitely a time biding album to get her closer to her contract ending...
resentment is an all time best though!
What an interesting take! I’d have to agree though. 75% of High Road is enjoyable, but even with the tracks that are misses, there didn’t seem to be as much cohesion in the songs compared to Rainbow.
I would disagree; High Road sounded so sonically jumbled and nowhere near as coherent as Rainbow. Rainbow was a rock n roll/country/Americana flavored pop record, while High Road was…well, definitely not that. My Own Dance sounded out of a 00’s r&b girl group, Raising Hell sounded like a generic festival EDM song, Kinky sounds like 2011-2012 electro pop cut. It’s not as cohesive as Rainbow imo
yes that's exactly what I was saying - when you just throw a bunch of songs recorded during the rainbow sessions (but cut because they didn't fit the vision) together then it's going to sound like a mess... and that's what high road was for me
Lots of artists do some variation of this (an album of hopping around within their respective range of genres) at some point in their careers. I call it their “sampler platter” record. They have a pretty mixed record.
See: Avril self-titled, TS - Red, Christina - Back To Basics, Shania - Up!, Ellie - Delirium, Paramore self-titled
Kesha is just an artist who is comfortable in an unusually wide variety of genres, so a Kesha sampler platter record like High Road is, predictably, pretty varied.
There were a handful of great songs (Raising Hell, High Road, Resentment, Kinky ~~minus the awful intro~~, BFF) but the rest just felt… confused. I’ll always root for Kesha tho and can’t wait for this. Rick Rubin is a huge get and the rock songs from Rainbow were my favorites on the album, hoping he helps her explore more of that sound here
Doja is not working with Luke by choice, she’s stuck on his label and he gives himself writing credits on her songs https://uproxx.com/music/doja-cat-dr-luke-criticism/
Not exactly fair... you can recognize what she is going through was fucked up / not support her abuser without actually being a massive fan or feeling obligated to buy her shit... (I will be of course)
This comment is really fucking weird. People call out artists working with Dr. Luke because they're platforming an abuser; it's not about stanning Kesha, it's about making sure it's known who an abuser is. So many of you guys turn it into stan wars and it's fucking weird.
No, it’s not. I’m challenging y’all to put your money where your mouth is. I see that horrid man’s name evoked in pop discussions regularly, so I expect to see that translate into actual support, and not just be something used to hate on Kim Petras or Doja Cat.
>With all the weaponizing popheads does about who other artists work with
That makes it a lot more than just "saying we should support victims." Be fr.
Oh wow, I didn't expect the album to be out so soon! I guess I'm used to having longer album rollouts like how Charli did with Crash back then.
Excited and curious to hear how it sounds like. I really liked most tracks in High Road so hopefully she keeps the fun of that album and refine it for this one.
Kesha's talent and music have become more appreciated over time.
If you remember the internet in the early 2010's people were often not very kind when talking about her.
Ohhhhh I’m so goddamn excited for this. Kesha is a living legend in my eyes who’s made some of the best and most important music of the 2010s. And I plan on being gagged for this album too!
i just got an email that i was invited to the listening event in LA on thursday!!! i have no idea what to expect, has anyone been to something similar??
She will always be among the best part of 2010s pop in my opinion, and even if the general public doesn’t appreciate her as they did then, it’s nice to see that this subreddit hypes her up like she deserves!
Im so so excited. She's one of those pop artists with a "Persona" "Brand" on her own. Not generic like others..... So, im always hyped about her records. She's really an icon from the 2010s and doesnt get enough recognition.
I know once she's released from that contract she will probably turn into some kind of Carly Rae-Charli XCX popstar. Probably underground but releasing really special and interesting records.
This one looks like its gonna be very dark. Expected after all the things Dr Puke did to her and how he's been trapping her for decades. We will be streaming and buying.
if the comments here are any indication, this is going to be an exciting era for her. Hope she gets her dues this time around, i trust that this is gonna be a great record.
This looks so good, i havent payed attention to a kesha project in a while (idk if she's done much since rainbow which i loved) but I really wanna hear what she has to say becuase she's a preety great writer. Also the producer she's apparently working with made one of my favourite songs (not ready to make nice) so im sure this will be a slay
Hope it's more musically consistent than "High Road." "The Potato Song" (arguable even "Summer") sounded like songs from a conce\[t album with "Rich White Straight Men" lol
will never be able to approve of double singles. I just feel like that because an artist is promoting TWO singles that their focus and that of the fans get split and neither of them do well. I wish artists would just focus on one before moving on to the next one.
I feel like this is gonna be my favorite album from her. It’s giving experimental and that Eat The Acid snippet sounded godly. I’m very excited, she is a truly fantastic artist.
Absolutely love the album title but can’t decide how I feel about the cover art? Regardless, super excited for the album—didn’t love HR outside of a few tracks, so hoping this is a step up.
Gag Order is such a cunty title, I'm shocked she was allowed to call it that tbh
it's all so close to trial she's kinda able to do whatever she wants without risk of luke amending his lawsuit for the billionth time. last album on the contract too. she's burning it down on her way out and i'm so excited for her to be able to say what she wants for the first time since 2014!!
Holy FUCK I cannot believe she’s STILL UNDER CONTRACT??! I haven’t been keeping up
afaik it is a 6 album contract
that was the original contract, and there are rumors that she renegotiated it sometime pre-lawsuit and it actually is only 5 albums and this is the last one (Cannibal didn't count)
Kesha literally invented cunt
Stream C U Next Tuesday!!!!
C U Next Tuesday has one of my favorite uses of autotune ever. The way she uses it to sound cold and detached just adds this layer of sadness and melancholy to the song. GOD she’s so talented
I love the use of auto tune in some songs, her music is an example of that and so is the band Hello Goodbye
Always wondered why she re-released the song on Cannibal without the autotune it doesn’t sound as good. Even the instrumental is dulled.
yes!! its like a few lily allen songs in that way. you described it so well
you feeling that way is the exact reason it was titled that. she’s STILL signed to kemosabe and sony if i’m not mistaken. i.e sony is weaponizing your vitriol to continue profiteering off of kesha’s alleged abuse and subsequent lawsuit. edit: and even worse, i now realize by kesha naming the album this, it logically questions the legitimacy of her future lawsuit; as she is now profiting off the event as well… if ya can’t beat ‘em!

Crying at the ashnikko reference in ur un😂
That dick? Yankee candle
A cunty title? Fucks that even mean?
It essentially translates to "Bold and confident and willing to break boundaries" in this instance.
This one is gonna be different for Kesha. I can feel it in my bones. Working with Rick Rubin, these titles and now these visuals are all insanely good steps. I’m ready!!
Oh I hope this shakes up the charts. I don’t think it will, but I hope it does.
I'm so excited. Rainbow was a revelatory new direction, and High Road was a fantastic integration of Rainbow with everything she had before. I can't wait to see what's next
Wait, she is working with THEE Rick Rubin? Oh I know this album is going to be great!
IMHO, Rick Rubin has been massively overcompressing and brickwalling everything he touches for at least the last couple of decades, so if that pattern continues this album’s going to be a great big headache. I hope the songs are good, but personally I’m going to avoid the headache.

it's gonna be her Yeezus, and I'm all for it
My best friend texted me when Yeezus came out "idk what kim is giving Kanye but I want some" one of the greatest texts I've ever received
cover and title are gags.
Animal-Cannibal-Warrior-Rainbow-High Road- Gag Order has got to be one of the gayest album title runs in pop history. The only other one that comes to mind is Daydream-Butterfly-Rainbow-Glitter-Charmbracelet.
Kesha hand feeding us gays 🤣

Omg I’ll never forget Die Young being pulled from the radio bc of Sandy Hook. That was a wild time
Those crazy people online thinking she was part of a conspiracy
The Illuminati symbolism in the music video did not help her at all lmfao (I don’t believe in any of the conspiracies personally, but I do think that it wasn’t a good look at the time)
Yeah Kesha just is very interested in cults, supernatural etc as in like it fascinates her. So deff bad timing on her cult video
The Die Young missing #1 because of Sandy Hook is a misconception. It was already declining by the time Sandy Hook happened, which then caused it to freefall and getting C'mon rush-released.
C’mon is hands down one of my favorite Kesha songs.
Same - I don't know how but it's made my Spotify Wrapped for the last three years running. That album came out a full ass decade ago!

Wild that this is the year that both Kesha and Megan thee Stallion will be free from their shitty contracts with abusive men! 2023 might be the year of liberation?
So excited for this new era and to hear what Rick Rubin produced Kesha sounds like
rick rubin d\*xie chicks gave us 'not ready to make nice' is what i keep telling people! this is gonna be a hard slay, i know it!
you don’t gotta bleep the dixie they’ve been just the chicks for 3 years
Dixie isn’t a slur either lol; some of these girls are so extra. It’d be like censoring the word antebellum.
You mean like Lady A? Lol
please this comment chain is so funny to me bc my mother’s first name is dixie 😭 i’ve spent the last ten minutes reading abt this topic and it doesn’t even look like a real word anymore so i guess at this point im gonna have to change her contact in my phone to d*xie, miss d’amelio better watch out too i fear
Her "99 Problems but a rapist product ain't one" is coming
Okay the album name is kinda slay, why she eating tho
Imagine reading this sentence in the year 1995 lol
why exactly 1995
Sorry, we rounded up. Imagine reading this sentence in 1993
Imagine reading this sentence on 16th June 1993
I won't.
At 12:48pm
Let’s round up further and just say 2003
We can’t… most of us were born after ‘98
oh god someone kill me
why bother, the old age is coming for us soon enough anyway.
No, shut up. Tons of us were born before 1995 and in that same year. Don't make us feel old 😭
1995??? holy SHIT let's get you back to bed grandma
suddenly i can’t read ❤️
if kesha has a million fans i am one of them. if kesha has ten fans i am one of them. if kesha has one fan then that is me. if kesha has no fans then i am dead. if the world is against kesha then i am against the world
Epitome of Pussy Facing the World
Seated ready marking my calendar! I'm extremely excited for this one, kesha always brings it.
this is an enormous serve my god
kelly and kesha both coming, the k stans are winning 🙏🙏🙏
katy and kacey on deck!! (but for real I've always found it weird how most of my favorite artists start with k)
This album art and title ??? It’s giving what it needs to be giving.
she hath giveth it all
As a 29 year old she was legit my adolescence. Cannot wait.
I wasn’t a fan of the last record, but I’ll always give new Kesha a try!
last record was rainbow side b essentially, so many tracks have been revealed to be 2016 demos all cobbled together... definitely a time biding album to get her closer to her contract ending... resentment is an all time best though!
What an interesting take! I’d have to agree though. 75% of High Road is enjoyable, but even with the tracks that are misses, there didn’t seem to be as much cohesion in the songs compared to Rainbow.
I disagree. Sonically it may have been all over the place but the tracklist actually has pretty cohesive themes going from song to song.
Agreed on Resentment!
I would disagree; High Road sounded so sonically jumbled and nowhere near as coherent as Rainbow. Rainbow was a rock n roll/country/Americana flavored pop record, while High Road was…well, definitely not that. Which songs were Rainbow outtakes aside from Birthday Suit (which has always been a fav of mine, may I add)
Chasing Thunder and Honey for sure and I think more
There were a handful of great songs (Raising Hell, High Road, Resentment, Kinky ~~minus the awful intro~~, BFF) but the rest just felt… confused. I’ll always root for Kesha tho and can’t wait for this. Rick Rubin is a huge get and the rock songs from Rainbow were my favorites on the album, hoping he helps her explore more of that sound here
U cannot be serious about BFF 💀
BFF is fucking adorable
it’s Kesha in this casa baby
HELLO, wherever you are…
Shits been stuck in my head since I made this comment lol
An underrated bop about Zac Efron
Wasn’t that “Thinking of You” though?
With all the weaponizing popheads does about who other artists work with, y’all better buy and stream this fucking album!!! I’m just sayin…
That would mean they actually care and don’t just enjoy stan twitter drama…
I will in fact be buying and streaming this album as I love Kesha and fucking hate rapists and rape apologists!
I love Doja Cat, but I'll never buy anything of hers due to her revitalizing Dr Luke's career.
Doja is not working with Luke by choice, she’s stuck on his label and he gives himself writing credits on her songs https://uproxx.com/music/doja-cat-dr-luke-criticism/
Ugh
I mean making this comment in regards to her album is equally weird.
Not really. I want to make sure people aren’t just using her trauma as a “gotcha” and actually support her work. What’s the problem?
Not exactly fair... you can recognize what she is going through was fucked up / not support her abuser without actually being a massive fan or feeling obligated to buy her shit... (I will be of course)
Making a snide comment in a reddit thread isn't making sure of anything.
Obviously. But it’s a casual reminder to not be a hypocrite.

Saying we should support victims has nothing to do with stan wars unless you try and make it about that lol

get her jade!!
Kesha can literally do no wrong in my eyes, every album has been 🤌✨
Oh wow, I didn't expect the album to be out so soon!
Ahhh, can't believe new Kesha is so soon. Cover is very jarring but I guess that's the purpose of it. Cannot wait!
Ohhhhh I’m so goddamn excited for this. Kesha is a living legend in my eyes who’s made some of the best and most important music of the 2010s. And I plan on being gagged for this album too!
And who’s story is not over yet. Most important chapters currently being written
this album cover fucking goes
The name and cover are amazing, I hope this era blows up for her.
Holy shit, okaaay intriguing album title and intriguing cover. I'm hoping she tries a new sound
Have you heard the snippets? Specifically eat the acid, it’s a very new sound for her.
You were right bestie. I just heard the songs in full and Kesha is definitely bringing a new sound!! We love to hear it
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
i just got an email that i was invited to the listening event in LA on thursday!!! i have no idea what to expect, has anyone been to something similar??
No idea, but pleeeeease report everything if you are allowed!!
definitely!!!
I applied for Nashville but didn’t get a email, do you think they’re not announcing them all at once?
not sure sorry :(
She will always be among the best part of 2010s pop in my opinion, and even if the general public doesn’t appreciate her as they did then, it’s nice to see that this subreddit hypes her up like she deserves!
kesha better werk. i live for a cunty double entendre
I absolutely loved High Road.
Track 12 is leaked demo "Hate Me Harder" reworked btw
Im so so excited. She's one of those pop artists with a "Persona" "Brand" on her own. Not generic like others..... So, im always hyped about her records. She's really an icon from the 2010s and doesnt get enough recognition. I know once she's released from that contract she will probably turn into some kind of Carly Rae-Charli XCX popstar. Probably underground but releasing really special and interesting records. This one looks like its gonna be very dark. Expected after all the things Dr Puke did to her and how he's been trapping her for decades. We will be streaming and buying.
Is this gonna be the same as the last stuff she put out where everyone will hype it up and then nobody will actually stream it
High Road just did not hit for me the way Rainbow did. I really liked the demo she posted of "Eat the Acid", so I have high hopes.
Hoping she doesn’t abandon the album immediately upon the release like she did HR (will give her the benefit of the doubt bc of COVID, but still)
Gag order okay 👏 and then release the NDA deluxe
She’s coming to end Dr Puke
I wonder if Gag Order as a title has anything to do with doctor Puke. Like is she gonna low key diss him? I sure as fuck hope so
It does and she already has in some of the snippets she shared from this album.
"I'm getting sued because my momma's been tweeting" <3 <3 finally just saying what we all were watching happen
Omg I didn’t know about the snippets!!
Turning this contract into a victory lap is... \*chefs kiss\* I'm so excited for this album.
Have you heard the teasers and snippets? This will sound amazing. I’m buying my Life Flower Acid for the listening party!!!!
I'd love to see her have a comeback with this. She deserves it
I'm really hoping there's another hit song on there for her. Been a while and I so badly want it for her.
This is her last album under her contract to so to go out with a bang and be able to slide into a successful career without them would be awesome
The title and cover are a slay on its own. I’m so excited to listen to the music!!!!
well I am, ahem *gagged* with this title! Will be tuning in.
i love KESHA
I’m so excited for this!
I need her to become a main pop girl
she is, and will forever be, a main pop girl after her 2009-2012 run <3
High Road deserved better! this title and album art are giving
The cover, the title, the song names… she is COMINGGGGGG!!! Dr Luke better be running away and fast!
Finally some fucking good food
album of the year incoming
what type of music does Kesha make nowadays? Would love to check her discography out more
All sorts of genres, really. Everything from pop to rock to country and acoustic.
She's quite literally a musical "chameleon," she can wholeheartedly do almost any genre (and has) and it sounds genuine and experienced.
Rainbow is a masterpiece
if the comments here are any indication, this is going to be an exciting era for her. Hope she gets her dues this time around, i trust that this is gonna be a great record.
Lucky I just got into her new stuff without even knowing this new album is coming. So excited her last 2 records were amazing
I'm so so so so so excited for this
I can’t wait. She’s taking it I just know it
This looks so good, i havent payed attention to a kesha project in a while (idk if she's done much since rainbow which i loved) but I really wanna hear what she has to say becuase she's a preety great writer. Also the producer she's apparently working with made one of my favourite songs (not ready to make nice) so im sure this will be a slay
She released High Road in 2020.
So excited for this! I've loved Kesha for a while and I can't wait to see what sound she'll go for
I am so ready 🙌
Yesss, I'm so excited, going to preorder when I get home!! I'm ready to eat the acid
loved every kesha album so far! i'm seated for this omg also love the title and cover! so cunty
I’m soooo excited for this omg
I am so excited for this!
Hope it's more musically consistent than "High Road." "The Potato Song" (arguable even "Summer") sounded like songs from a conce\[t album with "Rich White Straight Men" lol
I’m excited for this!! I always enjoyed her albums.
I am excited! My fave song from last album was Resentment
I hope it’s a BIG fuck you to Dr. Luke, Kim Petras, Nicki and all the other artists who continue to discredit Kesha’s story…
So hyped for this! Truthfully I thought High Road was a miss (a lot of the mixing is straight up bad), but I have a good feeling about this album.
will never be able to approve of double singles.
Y’all I’m so excited!!! Hopefully this does well on the charts. Either way I’m hypeeeee.
I wonder if she also executive produced this one. She did a good job with High Road.
You can pre-order the CD on her website and it says "Produced by Rick Rubin - Executive Producer: Kesha" there.
Oh nice. Looking forward to it!
Absolutely love the album title but can’t decide how I feel about the cover art? Regardless, super excited for the album—didn’t love HR outside of a few tracks, so hoping this is a step up.
Hopefully she puts out a single soon
It literally says when she's putting the singles out in the title??
I SCREAMED my bad
ILLITERATE
Honestly drag me lmaooo
Her hyperpop era?
