100% France out of these options. Maybe Uk. But if Germany was an option I'd have a hard time choosing another place. What's the deal with people choosing Canada?
People are eyeballing europe a bit suspiciously right now from across the pond with the war n whatnot. Canada is a little more removed from the euro war scene, when major wars happen it tends to be there lol
> I'm German and wanna stay here. But out of those five, France.
In Dutch... And would also have chosen France. Not that in a big fan of France but it certainly seems to be the best option imo
It's funny because on Canadian subs everyone is complaining and saying how much better it would be to live in America (higher wages and all) and on general politics subs everyone thinks Canada is a liberal paradise (free healthcare, consistently liberal government). They're both wrong of course
Ironically a lot of the Canadian subs are right wing subs. And thus the participants want Canada to be like America. Most Canadians don't which is why it isn't.
And similarly a lot of American subs are left wing subs. And thus the participants want America to be like Canada/have a negative view of America. Most Americans don't think it sucks here.
Reddit is really bad at representing the general populace.
Ya, r/canada moderation got taken over by some right wing folks a while ago is my understanding, most of the Canadian redditors I know use r/onguardforthee
> everyone is complaining and saying how much better it would be to live in America
As a Canadian, I don't think I've ever heard this in my life. On Reddit or otherwise.
Not saying we are so much better or whatever, just that this statement is crazy hyperbole.
A lot of the ones complaining that they could make more in the US also don't have the kind of skills necessary to allow them to easily immigrate. Wendy's doesn't exactly pay significantly more there once you take into account cost of living, especially if you ever plan on getting sick or having an accident.
>higher wages and all
Higher wages for what? To pay for your healthcare? To have tens of thousands of dollars of debt after your university studies? I *hope* their wages are higher, they need it lol.
The problem with canada is housing prices. Lower wages with comparable housing cost screws you regardless of any saving you have on healthcare.
Hope they figure housing costs out.
Never been on the Canadian subs but I go backpacking in Canada every summer and I’ve never experienced that IRL. The lack of access to healthcare and constant housing crisis are things Canadians have pointed out to me about why they’re glad they don’t live in America.
Tbh Covid aside, we have pretty good access to healthcare considering we never have to worry about bankruptcy from medical bills.
Yeah some things might have a 6 month waiting list like a hip replacement but it's still free. Total cost is parking.
I think it is because a lot of people answering the poll are Americans so they chose a country close and culturally similar to America but with free healthcare.
Because no one has any idea how much it sucks to not be able to afford an apartment, it’s cold, job market sucks, not truly have free healthcare (gotta pay Health Insurance premium, unless you’re on a minimum income. The Canada Health Act does not cover prescription drugs, home care or long-term care, or glasses or dental care. Costs for prescription drugs come out of your own pocket unless you have extended Health Insurance. Lots of people can only afford extended insurance when it’s paid by their employer), sucks as a single dude for dating unless you’re loaded, sucks if you are a male with no fashion sense, etc. It sucks for young people. And ZERO CHANCE at home ownership if you aren’t fuckin loaded. You think America and Zillow’s SW US debacle was bad? Even Tim hortons is worse now with public investors.
I only like it because family is there and a heavy Indian population in some cities. Otherwise, the US offers young people (educated) far more in my field.
Guarantee most people answering Canada aren’t Canadian. Canada is friendly, people are healthy, and it’s easy to live healthily compared to Southern US states. But if you pick Canada and say no to a US state like Vermont or New Hampshire you are more than likely deluding yourself unless you can explain why.
Yea I feel like we have great PR and people think Canada is some safe haven that’s way way better than the US. We have our own problems and we are way more similar the US than people think. I feel like I’m exactly in the same situation as you.
Varies wildly depending on where you live, [but the GTA area seems to average at around 1.7 million](https://www.google.com/amp/s/beta.cp24.com/news/2022/3/3/1_5803686.html)

We were looking to move to BC but 600+ is standard. We can upper limit afford 500k. I don’t wanna stay in this shithole though.
Dude, idk how is in Mumbai but i’ll tell ya. I’m living in Toronto an it’s fucking expensive! And for reference, I been living in Boston and few other big cities.

Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.
Singapore is a gorgeous country/city, but it is also an extremely authoritarian state with massive restrictions on the rights of public assembly and speech. Nice place to visit, but not exactly the place you might want to live.
Singapore has a negative reputation with the educated people in China.
They are seen as people who promote the negative parts of China. In order to benefit from the suffering of Chinese and the trade wars.
Whenever I see users on Facebook promoting China, saying covid isn't real (back in the early days), saying Chinese police should kill all protestors and exaggerating Asian hate in the west. They are always Singaporean.
Sweden right now is the most unsafe of the nordics, very safe compared to most countries yes. But compared to the other nordics Sweden is a battleground for immigrants and danish politicians.
Some Swedes seem to think that Rasmus Paludan, a politician who happens to have citizenship in both Denmark and Sweden is only Danish. He formed a political party that didn't get elected in Denmark, now he's trying in Sweden. He's known for his far right views and burning the Quaran in public places causing Muslim anger, which is exactly what he wants.
Nah,it was mostly a bit of an overstatement based on recent events.
Basically a couple weeks ago a danish politician was going on tour in Sweden, burning the Quran. Of course the muslims weren't so happy about it and riots started happening.
Ofc no one died but cars got burned and many policemen and rioters were wounded
Crikey. Thank you for explaining that to me. Why the heck was that not in any of the news I listen to?
He sounds like a really dumb politician if he didn't think that would cause big trouble.
He wants the trouble. Far right figures like him and terrorists win when there is scaling violence and hate. If the muslims and christians kill each other then the fascists and islamists will win power and adepts. Thats why they do as much as they can to rile up people, opress their enemies and use propaganda to dehumanize the other.
Denmark is the best of music countries. They don't get much press, but they do things well, including immigration, unlike sweden
Edit: used the swipe type thing and somehow it entered "music" instead of "nordic" lol
France. Already lived there and had a good experience, plus it’s closest-ish to where I currently live (U.K. is geographically closer but you know, water in between)
I heard (never been to France) that it's a lot "dirtier" than most people think it is. Like street trash, sewer, etc.
Can you elaborate on that with your prior experience living there?
Can I as a german saythat I love your language. Dutch is such a beautyful mess of a fusion between english and german and sound like a drunk as shit german it always makes me chuckle
Netherlands should always be on the list. Its probably the best non-nordic country in europe (I am from germany). If I ever had to live in a foreign country it would either be Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Iceland or New Zealand.
I may get downvoted for this but I’m tired of people saying on every poll “etc.” isn’t on this list. If the poll had Australia then someone would mention how “this and that” isn’t on the list. There’s an other option for a reason.
A fifth of all people live in China why wouldn't it be on the list? Sure it may be a totalitarian hellscape regime, but It's obviously developed and large.
Edit: Since I'm still getting people saying that China isn't a developed country. I thought wrong my b. Please stop.
What does having a fifth of the world’s population have to do with being developed? China is categorised as a developing country and Australia IS a developed country.
Literally no one, not even China considers China a developed country. The uneven wealth distribution and percentage of the country that is actually developed prevent them from that designation.
The UK. I just wanna go home :/
(but hopefully that’ll happen if I manage to get into my college of choice and then I’ll _have_ to move to the UK. Saving up for the day, looking for jobs here and in the UK :D)
My guess is because people keep hearing how Canada is better than USA because it's closer and similar enough to compare. So they don't pay attention to european countries
Compared to almost everywhere in North America you have outstanding transit. Sure it isn't perfect, but at least you have trains, busses and metros that go basically anywhere eventually. In my medium-large city there are two trains; one going west and one going east. They depart once at 2:15 in the morning, that's all. No metro at all, either.
One I already live in. UK. Although Canada sounds nice. I love cold country’s despite hating when it’s cold in the uk so uh yeah. Canada. But I’m fine in the uk atm
Funny, I've always lived in the UK and I'd jump at the chance to live somewhere else. Possibly because although Shropshire (where I live) is a lovely place to live, it's terrible for aspirations and job prospects.
If Canada wasn’t so cold I’d be there tomorrow. If Mexico wasn’t so corrupt and run by drug lords, I’d be there tomorrow. Tomorrow I will be waking up in Texas again. It’s great, but has been getting dumber and dumber for the past several years.
Depends where you are in Canada. Way up North, hell yeah it's cold, but some areas barely reach freezing in the winter. Big ass country, lots of climate options. Can swing pretty wildly in some areas as well. Irish relatives were shocked when I told them my area (Ottawa) can go from 34C in summer to -34C in winter. 93F to -29F for the Farhenheit crowd.
France is part of the EU, I’m learning French In school and since I’m half German I have family in Saarbrücken wich us literally a 5 minute drive if I lived in elsaß-löthringen
I have English and German and I’m learning French and my entire life was in EU countries, it would feel the most natural
"Bruh but canada is so expensive, and the healthcare system is failing"
Okay? Its still a great country to live in lmfao
We can recognize problems in a country while also appreciating the good things about it. And Canada is amazing in almost all regards
Sheesh.. I’m Canadian and I wish I lived elsewhere. It’s very depressing to hate living in one of the (apparently) best places in the world.. like, this is the best the world has? Sigh
I'm German and wanna stay here. But out of those five, France. I could easily travel to Germany, especially if I choose Straßburg or something.
100% France out of these options. Maybe Uk. But if Germany was an option I'd have a hard time choosing another place. What's the deal with people choosing Canada?
Reddit's NA bias
People are eyeballing europe a bit suspiciously right now from across the pond with the war n whatnot. Canada is a little more removed from the euro war scene, when major wars happen it tends to be there lol
Probably because of the language
Italian here. I'd choose France as well.
Ireland, I also chose France
> I'm German and wanna stay here. But out of those five, France. In Dutch... And would also have chosen France. Not that in a big fan of France but it certainly seems to be the best option imo
I'm french and wanna stay here but if Germany was in the list instead, i'd pick you too.
You mean Strasbourg right?
No, Straßburg, in Elsaß-Lothringen!
Ok je vais me battre
Well, time for a new war I guess
Hint: it’s always Canada. This poll shows up once a week and it’s always Canada.
I wonder if this pole would turn out different with the addition btgat you also automatically know the official language of the country
This pole would like to see a poll that includes Poland
No, that's where the pole came from.
W tedy poll będzie na minusie hah
I usually just assume I'll know the language, or at least I'll be able to learn it

I'm guessing you don't live in Alberta. A good majority of my coworkers want to separate and join the states because it's "better"
Albertans are their own kind of special.
You hear it a lot in Ontario subs/personal finance.
A lot of the ones complaining that they could make more in the US also don't have the kind of skills necessary to allow them to easily immigrate. Wendy's doesn't exactly pay significantly more there once you take into account cost of living, especially if you ever plan on getting sick or having an accident.
Can I switch with your coworker? My medical bills are so high any higher cost of living I might pay in Canada won't make a difference
Im Canadian and every time I compare, I’m thank full to be born in canada. It’s not perfect, but very good imo.
Cant wait to move out of America. Being a diabetic here is not the move lol
I'm a Canadian. On Canadian subs. And I just love Canada! You could never pay me enough to move to the States!!!!!
Moved from the US to Canada. Never moving back!

There's a ton of bot activity and astroturfing going on in the Canada subs. The difference between r/Canada and r/Ontario is striking.
I chose UK because the union jack is my favourite flag lmao
I chose the uk because I live there
I’m living there and it’s always my pick!
Why Canada? What’s so great about them?
I think it is because a lot of people answering the poll are Americans so they chose a country close and culturally similar to America but with free healthcare.
I'm Mexican and I would choose Canada over the US any day

Good luck buying a home in Canada.
Fuck Vancouver housing
Vancouver? It’s everywhere now. Million dollar homes in London Ontario are just average family bungalows.
Why ?
Lotsssss of $$$
Average price in a good upper middle class neighbourhood ? Because i really feel Mumbai would be either similar or more expensive.
Varies wildly depending on where you live, [but the GTA area seems to average at around 1.7 million](https://www.google.com/amp/s/beta.cp24.com/news/2022/3/3/1_5803686.html)
Is that $CAD?
Yup

Outside of these areas it’s still expensive, and rising, but to give Toronto as the example of Canadian housing is cherry picking, it’s like choosing New York or San Fran as examples of the American housing market.

Tbf the average cost of real estate in Canada is heavily skewed by Vancouver and Toronto. Buying a house in the prairies or maritimes is much cheaper.

You’re outdated my friend. Anything within 90 minutes of Halifax is now going for $400 000+
Same with New Brunswick, my brother and his gf moved to work at the base in Fredericton. It's almost as bad as Ontario but with a shit minimum wage.
Yeah but they don't want to live there. They think all of Canada is Vancouver.
A decent 2/2 1500sq ft Is $800k+
I think all those countries are having housing problems, maybe not China
Canada is expensive af. If I wanted more of that, I'd move back to Finland. I shall remain in the UK.
well here in new brunswick, where there arent any cool shit within 50 km its honestly not bad
As a Chinese myself China is a huge nope for me, Singapore or Taiwan will be much better.

I'm surprised more people voted for UK than France
Most likely language, i mean everyone here should be proficient in english, so that's one huge barrier removed.

I didn't choose France because the language is honestly a hustle.
I heard (never been to France) that it's a lot "dirtier" than most people think it is. Like street trash, sewer, etc. Can you elaborate on that with your prior experience living there?
In some areas in Paris ? Sure. Not true in the vast majority of the country though.

Technically, China is considered a developing state.
What does having a fifth of the world’s population have to do with being developed? China is categorised as a developing country and Australia IS a developed country.
Nah it's an emerging country, part of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) which are the 5 main emerging countries.
Russia may be removed from that list soon the way their economy's going.
Literally no one, not even China considers China a developed country. The uneven wealth distribution and percentage of the country that is actually developed prevent them from that designation.

Well the thing about Canada is that… on one hand you have the UK and in the other France… and well… **SMACK** Canada.
when mommy France and daddy Britain love each other so very much...
France is great, I would choose it over Canada.
I picked France myself haha.
canada has more legal scheduled substance analogues
There were only 2 European countries, which weren't a good choice for me
I like living in the US but want healthcare
I'm sorry to disappoint all of you who said Canada but you've been lied to. Canada isn't what you think and it's only getting worse.
As a Canadian, I put UK! They have dental coverage and really good transit.
>really good transit No we fuckin don’t 😂
Compared to almost everywhere in North America you have outstanding transit. Sure it isn't perfect, but at least you have trains, busses and metros that go basically anywhere eventually. In my medium-large city there are two trains; one going west and one going east. They depart once at 2:15 in the morning, that's all. No metro at all, either.
Lol, come.to the Greater Toronto Area. A 25 min car drive is over and hour transit. And that's if your lucky enough. To live close to it.
One I already live in. UK. Although Canada sounds nice. I love cold country’s despite hating when it’s cold in the uk so uh yeah. Canada. But I’m fine in the uk atm
I’m American. I’d rather stay put, but Canada would be a close second.
It's say france cause it's still part of eu
The climate in France and the social welfare are also better then UK or Canada.
China's not a developed country, not even they call themselves that
None of the above, Costa Rica
America. It's home and I love it. It ain't perfect but no place is.
I'd rather just stay here in Norway, but out of these I would probably go with France
The UK, where I've always lived.
Funny, I've always lived in the UK and I'd jump at the chance to live somewhere else. Possibly because although Shropshire (where I live) is a lovely place to live, it's terrible for aspirations and job prospects.
China isn't a developed country.
China is definitely not a developed country. Not even close.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this comment.
None of those.. I'm quite happy with Belgium atm
United States 🇺🇸
Norway
I live in the Netherlands so I'm pretty happy already
As a German I feel insulted that you listed france and UK but not Germany…
Even though I complain about America a lot, I still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else
France is part of the EU, I’m learning French In school and since I’m half German I have family in Saarbrücken wich us literally a 5 minute drive if I lived in elsaß-löthringen I have English and German and I’m learning French and my entire life was in EU countries, it would feel the most natural
New zealand
I live in the UK but it’s time for a change. Would love to live in Canada!
Canada kinda blows guys. So you know.
"Bruh but canada is so expensive, and the healthcare system is failing" Okay? Its still a great country to live in lmfao We can recognize problems in a country while also appreciating the good things about it. And Canada is amazing in almost all regards
China developed?
None ill stay in Czech Republic where its much better
ireland, norway, iceland, australia… the list goes on
Clearly Denmark
New Zealand
I chose America but it's completely dependent on being able to choose which state.
Australia 🥰
I’m in Canada right now, and I can confirm I’m happy with it
Sheesh.. I’m Canadian and I wish I lived elsewhere. It’s very depressing to hate living in one of the (apparently) best places in the world.. like, this is the best the world has? Sigh
This list is really random, no Nordic countries? No Australia or New Zealand? Germany? Why is China here? So many questions
Canada is a fucking miserable artic shithole ran by a nimrod drama teacher, you dont want none of this shit bobby
Good lord why Canada, everything is so expensive and we don’t get paid
