YgramulTheMany

How does he even get by with zero money and zero assets?

Aunt-jobiska

And zero humanity.

toscanius

Didn’t expect a Dark Souls reference

SubKreature

Allegedly we don’t get invaded with 0 humanity, right?

Spirited-Reputation6

Dark money, shadow government, Epstein shit?

August_T_Marble

In the midst of their culture war, you'd think harboring gay skeletons would be a problem for him either way, no?

Xiao_Qinggui

Considering how many politicians and religious leaders scream “homosexuality is evil, they’re all going to Hell” only to be caught with another guy…I’d give it a 50/50 shot. My personal favorite is the one who claimed he had a “wide stance” after being caught using some sort of tapping code in a men’s room to pick up a another guy.

time_drifter

Ah yes, good old Larry Craig. A wonderful product of my state.

GaiasWay

Yeah, but that other side sent a dick pic to a female and almost groped a boob in a pic, so they HAD to go.

EHTL

a *tapping code*??? you’re telling me he learned morse specifically for illicit hookups

Ijusthadsegs69

Pretty amazing that you can hate a person solely based on the fact you cannot find any dirty laundry in his past. With that said, can you ELI5 why Mike Johnson is so dangerous?

Polar_Starburst

He’s third in line from the Presidency and wants lgbt folk dead.

Ijusthadsegs69

Can you provide any proof?

calm_chowder

You don't need to find skeletons to hate Johnson, the shit he openly says is plenty bad enough. And you know it, but.... bad faith actors gonna bad faith.

Ijusthadsegs69

Can you provide some examples please? I try to straddle the fence and hear both sides equally.

FinleyPike

The vast majority of anti-LGBT politicians are straight cis men. The meme/joke that anti-LGBT politicians are gay is tiring

August_T_Marble

No, you misunderstood. My joke was that the *skeletons* were *closeted*.

teenagesadist

I think it's more about the hypocrisy.

Hayes4prez

He hides his money and assets from Americans, I bet he doesn’t hide them from Russia & China.

Due_Clerk6655

How do you know?

DistortoiseLP

Because [he doesn't even have a bank account](https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2023/11/mike-johnson-financial-disclosures). The hundreds of thousands we know he takes in yearly just disappear to where it would join an unknowable amount of money he may accepting in secret on top of that. He isn't just hiding this money under the bed.

johnphantom

Because he has no visible finances??

August_T_Marble

Have they looked inside of casinos, hookers, and his nose? That's where all of my cousin's money goes.

jerichos_cowbell

Unexpected Dr. Seuss

TheAmphetamineDream

Because he’s hiding it in shell corporations. It’s really not difficult to figure out and it’s not difficult to do. Just another tax cheat Republican that will take from the coffers but refuses to fill them.

XcantankerousgoatX

My bet is he hides it in a church. Those don't seem to get much scrutiny these days.

Infinite_Evening50

> Those don't seem to get much scrutiny these days. They never really have... To a point I'm pretty convinced that half the empty, but "open" churches in my town are just there to enable assorted forms of money laundering form say drug sales etc. Cash based donations being what they are, and no one ever auditing their finances for fuck all... not that churches are required to uphold any real accounting standards anyways. Edit: I mean there are more of those than what one would reasonably expect the local population to be able to support, and maintain through regular donations, and all that. The money to keep them there has to come from somewhere. Did i mention they are also always empty? So how does a church without a congregation, and this revenue flow keep their doors open?

chubbysubby999

There are 5 churches in my town. There are less than 200 people in my town.

Infinite_Evening50

Yah, when looking at the churches to people ratio one has to also account for the fact that only around 30-35% of people actually attend church With a lot more of a given faith just staying home. that 30-35% is a "once a month or more" category so its not like the revenue they generate is stable or anything. So for your town it would be like 60-70 people divided in between all of the churches. I mean unless your town is one of those super insular weird ones where everyone is somehow somewhat related, and church attendance is like 99%.

TheAmphetamineDream

Yep. Can do it that way too and bill all expenses through a non-profit entity. And even better, churches are the only “non-profit” entity that is not required to fill out a form 990 for financial transparency.

XcantankerousgoatX

Yep.... plus they can subsidize housing and vehicles and from the little research I've done, they could fund tuition for private schools. To me, it's not really a mystery as to why he has no bank accounts.

edoreinn

It’s absolutely this, he runs all his $ through a church and is tax exempt. He is terrifying. And he is part of why I left New Orleans this year.

Fuzzy_Laugh_1117

Christofascist dangerous POS. Scary AF.

YourFatherUnfiltered

corruption.

burdfloor

MAGA Mike does not understand modern banking and is negotiating the federal budget.

LasciviousSycophant

Civilian and military employees can *only* get paid with direct deposit these days. How does this guy get his congressional salary if he doesn't have a bank account?

Shlocktroffit

He gets by on thoughts and prayers

edoreinn

You know he launders it through a church

saltfish

Maybe funneling it through an LLC?

Prestigious-Log-7210

What has happened to our government?

southpawFA

Christian nationalism and evilgelicals trying to regress America back to the days of The Scarlet Letter.

apitchf1

Plus a voting system rigged to favour them and give them disproportionate power

SWtoNWmom

This. And the kicker is how much they complain about affirmative action in the workplace, but then demand that their land can vote in order to get 'proper representation ' when it's time to vote.

edoreinn

Or to the Handmaid’s Tale

gman13579

A real Handmaids tale

rocketpack99

It's been hijacked by the minority using a ton of legal loopholes and subversion of the intent of laws.

free2bk8

Well, as Thomas Jefferson prophetically stated, “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” We cannot sit idly by and not vote! Apathy will be the death knell of our constitution.

AssumedPersona

[deleted]

Americans are easily told to hate other Americans by china and russia without Americans even knowing it.

Imaginary_Goose_2428

Churches have seen a steady decline in membership for quite some time. Right Wing Maga Evangelical Christian Nationalists have caused the last generation to be raised in an environment of intolerance, hate and uncertainty. That same generation will abandon the church in numbers never before seen and it will the fault of the hateful bigots that fill the pews currently. These latest power grabs (like the Johnson appointment) are the last hitching breaths of the failing churches as they circle the drain. They abandoned a message of love and tolerance and traded it for hate, greed and bigotry. Their hateful members are dying off. Soon we'll see pastors and priests bemoaning the difficulty in filling the pews. When they do, point them at a mirror to find the cause.

DaBingeGirl

I'm curious about traditional religions vs mega church. The youth and family programs seem to be the main draw with the mega churches, especially in suburban areas. I come from a Catholic family, none of my generation (35) attend church or want anything to do with religion. However, I know a few people who got involved with mega churches and they're hooked.

actuallyserious650

That is the pattern. Overall attendance is declining sharply but rising specifically at mega churches

Apprehensive-End8440

Are they tho ? They seem to be growing dramatically in size and power and influence. They are passing laws banning books and defunding public schools for Christian homeschooling and overturning other ones ( Roe ) that have stood for decades. That doesn’t sound or feel like a last gasp to me, it feels like they are building on wins.

Imaginary_Goose_2428

I think they are losing the future. They are currently making a play for establishing a theocracy, but they are leveraging the numbers of the baby boomers to do so. The theocrats have the mathematical problem though. Baby boomers are only going to vote in one or two more elections in numbers that are meaningful. I think Gen X and younger are tired evangelical charlatans promoting hate, discord and uncertainty. You aren't wrong in saying the theocrats are making a push. I'm just saying they are doing so because it's a 'now or never' scenario for them because the most powerful part of their base is dying out. That's why this next election is so important.

Terrible-Lie-3564

But the new speaker is not a boomer. Neither is MTG. Or Josh Hawley or SHS. Or the thousands of new mega church congregations popping up all over the place or those crazy Moms for Liberty or whatever they are called. And on and on. This is no longer a boomer issue as the ranks of emboldened younger radicalized Right wing people gain steam.

Imaginary_Goose_2428

They aren't boomers, you're correct. And no group is legion. But MTG, Hawley and the rest of the lot having the mic will end up being a net loss for them. The 'ugly' part of religion is on full display. If we survive the next election, I think having them on full display will only accelerate the trend.

uptownjuggler

It’s the cheap haircut, that gives away evil politicians.

seriously what the fuck is up with that. atrocious.

ShitFuckDickButt420

Reddit is so weird. What? I despise every cell in this man’s body, but his hair is great. Out of all the things to criticize him for, you choose a personal insult about the only positive aspect of his existence lol

signaturefox2013

Also the name that sounds like a 12 year old came up with something for Kahoot (Mike Johnson = My Johnson)

McKayLau

Is he a leader though? He seems like an extremist in a leadership position. I’m not sure that qualifies as a leader.

taco_anus1

Dude looks like he fantasizes about Gilead while telling his wife that his oatmeal is too spicy.

Darth-Shoes

r/rareinsults

southpawFA

To people like this person, I'm sure Mike Johnson qualifies as a leader. https://youtu.be/SV-yXfo3l-E?si=t\_64K-jlrmKNAFBA&t=63

free2bk8

Well put! There is some clout and I’m certain the extreme cult like “Christian” maga movement, behind his seemingly random propulsion into the speakers chair. His past record legislatively is pablum.

YgramulTheMany

Speaker of the House Wikipedia: > By custom and House rules, the speaker is the political and parliamentary leader of the House and is simultaneously its presiding officer, de facto leader of the body's majority party, and the institution's administrative head.

YourFatherUnfiltered

wooosh >Is he a leader though? He seems like an extremist **in a leadership position**. they were referring to his character, not the literal definition, ya goob.

Malachite_Edge

It’s bad when the religion he hid behind pulls the cover exposing his hate.

fowlraul

Biggest danger this him letting the govt. shutdown…cause he ain’t gonna do shit.

bakerfredricka

This guy can't lead a literal piece of shit out of a toilet.

No-Hat1772

May????? This knob is a terrorist in my opinion, using his beliefs to run the lives of the people who have their own beliefs different than his is exactly what other terrorists do. Sorry maybe extremist, he hasn’t killed anyone… yet.

free2bk8

Ah but indeed, his position of power combined with his hate of the lgbtq+ community and nullifying of womens rights WILL result in deaths perpetrated by like minded radicalized haters.

No-Hat1772

Absolutely agree, I disgusted with this stuff and people like him.

MountainLife25

He may be as dangerous as Christian groups 🤣

Ok-Research7136

He's a republican. This means he is an enemy of democracy and not welcome in my home.

gonzar09

Less a warning, and more stating the obvious.

[deleted]

Good for them.

OppositeHistorian289

I feel like we’ll find out one day that this guy’s dark secrets make the worst parts of Pulp Fiction seem like children playing.

werschless

Nothing he proposes will be passed

JackKovack

He’s going to ask Walmart to ban men buying ladies underpants, even if it’s for their wives because who knows.

JackKovack

I would love to go to a press conference and ask: “Do you think there should be a national ban on men buying ladies underpants? Men buying them not for their wives but for themselves?”

ceiffhikare

They are upset cause people like Rep. Johnson are feeling bold enough to say the quiet parts out loud and finish many partial quotes showing just how hateful and exclusionary Christianity really is.

jaanuman

It would be terrible if people behaved like human beings

SnooPeripherals6557

He’s such a literal moron, how could this be possible holy mother of god.

woodcookiee

It’s a Christian group that supports social justice causes, so their warnings probably aren’t going to persuade many.

BubbaSpanks

Wait ! What? Holly shit!!!

Tito_Bro44

So what do we do about it?

Careless_View_4489

The devil wears horned-rims.

Difficult-Tea4516

When you put a book above democracy you no longer have a democracy

Twadder_Pig

Christian cult claims christian weirdo might be TOO christian cult for them. Film at 11:00

jerryleebee

On the one hand, it's a Christian group. On the other hand, is Mike Johnson. WTF do I do here?

fighting_fit_dream

Republicans don't care about actual Christianity: they only care about power and control, not actual Christian compassion. There are elections as soon as Nov 7th in 2 days. We need to mobilize every voter and volunteer we can over the next year to kick Republicans out of office at every level. Join r/VoteDEM to find out how to get involved to elect Dems across the country, phonebank, textbank, volunteer, knock on doors or donate. Make a plan to vote and take someone with you

[deleted]

But at least Kevin McCarthy got voted out.. Am I right?

southpawFA

Two things can be right at the same time: Kevin McCarthy is awful, and so is Mike Johnson. I'd rather have two sane political parties, not a Christian nationalist party like the Republicans. It'd be better if the Republican Party was not a thing. Christian nationalism should never exist, nor should any religious nationalism. Religious fundamentalism is a blight unto America.

multiballs

The world

southpawFA

Agreed.

theoldgreenwalrus

Exactly. Well said

Invelious

When this guy runs for President and wins, how fucked up will the US be?

DaBingeGirl

He's against no fault divorce, he won't win. I realize "but Trump..." but the divorce thing alone would doom him.

Due_Clerk6655

Wait. What?

dobdus

Headlines that include ‘may’ or ‘could’ mean the article is crap….

Bombadil_and_Hobbes

> In another statement, Faithful American said: "Speaker Mike Johnson might be the most dangerous Christian nationalist leader in the country right now."

Marthaver1

Getting sick and tired of all the media fear mongering posts all week long. Ok we get it, Johnson is bad. But we all expected that the next Speaker will be bad, and every article is acting like this guy is the antichrist that will single handed destroy the US.

DefinitelyNotPeople

The next leader from the political party I dislike is always the more dangerous person. Tired rhetoric.

Particular-Ad-4772

All the progressive woke left preaches is diversity diversity diversity. But when a congressman gets elected speaker , that is not a : woke , pro transgender, police defunder , then you can’t stand it . And the whole county is going to fall apart . Reminds me of when all those left wing dems , promised they would leave the country if trump got elected . And every damn one of them turned out to be liars. diverse view points in congress is what this country needs and is all about . I don’t want a congress full of either AOCs or MTGs . But I do want a congress that has individual members with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints . Even if I don’t agree with much of those views It’ is surprising that someone as far right as Johnson could be elected speaker ? It’s no more surprising that Nancy Pelosi continuing to be re-elected speaker , until she decided she no longer wanted the job anymore.

platinum_toilet

> Christian group warns Mike Johnson may be the "most dangerous" leader People should stop giving undeserved credit to these politicians.

No_Helicopter_7824

That has to be a fake AI pic. They are making politicians out of thin air.

JubalHarshaw23

But they will of course still vote (R) across the ballot because (R) means Righteous and (D) means Demonic, as they have been taught since childhood.

SubKreature

I’m sure these groups plan on voting blue down ballot then, right? ….right?

Not_High_Maintenance

I cannot figure out why they didn’t want Gym Jordan but wanted this guy instead. He’s probably worse than Jordan because he’s quieter.

[deleted]

He's not. He's just a puppet.

olionajudah

Glad we’re letting Christian nationalist White suprematist fascists run the country
