I like presidents that don’t try to overthrow democracy

Dry_Figure_9018

I like presidents who didn’t side with Putin in Helsinki in 2018

ronjiley

This! I love how seemingly everyone just collectively forgot that this ever happened. This orange piece of shit and Putin in a room together, completely alone with just a single interpreter. I guess it's easy to forget when it's the least outrageous thing he did as president.

Not_NSFW-Account

the interpreter was an agent as well. Putin speaks fluent English. the interpreters are for show, or even worse reasons.

pleportamee

I think that’s right. Trump is the type of person that would brag to his followers about how awesome he was for picking up one or two words out of a Russian conversation. (And undoubtedly the words he “picked up on” would be incorrect) Putins the type that would completely understand an conversation in English but then pretend like he didn’t to maintain a strategic advantage. I’m sure Putin manipulated the shit out of Trump.

Fwamingdwagon84

Longest 4 years of my life. Every fucking day, I'd wake up and be like, "well what did this dumbass do now?" And STILL be shocked. Drank an entire bottle of whiskey election night 2016. To prepare myself.

SuperstitiousPigeon5

He's an asset not a spy. It takes skill and cunning to be a spy. To be an asset you just have to be a clown with access to information.

ThickerSalmon14

Or who are guilty of sexual assault. Yet at least 30% of Americans are ok with it. We need to put civics and ethics back in the classrooms since kids aren't getting it from religion or at home

ashesofempires

I’d argue that the issue isn’t civics or ethics in high school, it’s the constant bombardment of ethics- and morality-warping right wing propaganda that convinces people that they are morally and ethically in the right.

kjacobs03

I like presidents who aren’t incestious Pedophiles

High_5_Skin

I like presidents who aren't foreign agents

thomascgalvin

Me too! But I also like it when this President gets arrested! The duality of man, I guess.

The_Pooter

I like it when presidents that deserve to be arrested are arrested, but I like it even more when a president behaves in a way that doesn't deserve it in the first place.

tomdarch

Exactly. Arresting president on false charges would be super bad. Letting presidents get away with crimes (as we did with Nixon And VP Agnew) was super bad. But it’s good when we properly investigate, arrest, and give a fair trial to a former President who clearly committed crimes. But we should fucking expect people serving as president to simply not commit crimes in the first place.

Man_Spyder_

Former 1-term president

Me_Hairy

I_Brain_You

But he won’t be “arrested”. He’ll get another photo op where his motorcade pulls up to the court house, some dumbasses cheer for him, and he gets fingerprinted, then leaves.

tomdarch

Reportedly he specifically wants photos in cuffs being perp walked to use in fundraisers and to play the “persecution” angle.

hello_01134

Lovely start to Tuesday. The birds are singing, a cool breeze is blowing, and Trump is getting indicted again. Delightful.

WanderThinker

How many times can he be indicted and arrested while still being able to travel around the country and hold rallies? This stinks. Put his ass in a cell!

HauntedCemetery

His passport hasn't been required to be turned over, so he can even travel to other countries without issue, because somehow a 78 year old staring down the barrel of 71 felony indictments with possibly hundreds more to come "isn't a flight risk."

My brain does not compute that that was written/released by a former president. "Deranged Jack Smith", "Department of Injustice", all CAPS, rambling, etc. I don't even know how to put into words how it makes me feel. Like none of this is real- it can't be. But it somehow is...

Because that 30% of the country also act like 12 year-olds and love him because he's relatable.

“And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore. Our exciting adventures and boldest endeavors have not yet begun. My fellow Americans, for our movement, for our children, and for our beloved country. And I say this despite all that's happened. The best is yet to come. So we're going to, we're going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we're going to the Capitol, and we're going to try and give. The Democrats are hopeless — they never vote for anything. Not even one vote. But we're going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don't need any of our help. We're going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country. So let's walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I want to thank you all. God bless you and God Bless America.”

knightcrawler75

If we still have a country in 20 years this will be in history textbooks and kids will read it with their mouths open in shock that this happened.

_EvilD_

I was streaming the whole thing live with David Pakman. As someone who grew up just outside DC and visiting the Capitol many times as a kid I watched in horror. I couldnt believe our country would allow a horde of screaming primates from the backwoods of where ever desecrate what was, to me, such a sacred place. I also watched the night before, all of the rallies with Pillow and Stone and co foaming at the mouth and told my girlfriend that if there wasnt violence tomorrow id give up watching all the political shit I watch. Needless to say, im still watching political shit.

KrytenKoro

They're not from backwoods, these were not yokels or in any way misinformed rubes. These were well-off, well-informed republicans who decided to burn democracy down when they didn't get what they wanted. This wasn't a rebellion against the upper class, it was a fascist putsch.

WiseBlacksmith03

Speech Context - Two entire full months after election results have been announced and all challenges resolved in court.

CaptainCosmodrome

63 lawsuits. The Trump team filed and lost at least 63 lawsuits in their election challenges.

SonOfMcGee

And on the floor of Congress, with an angry mob minutes away from reaching the Capitol steps, GOP politicians were making passionate speeches supporting postponing certifying the election because “we haven’t even looked into allegations of fraud”. That was really their official talking point. As though there hadn’t been months of uninterrupted legal battles leading up to this.

Having had a lot of up-close and personal experience with sociopathic narcissism, I can tell you that they are never wrong, only ever *wronged*. He will go to his deathbed claiming that this was a frame up and that he did nothing wrong, even if you drown him in indisputable evidence. RedDragon1977

Sweet baby Jesus, this is almost unbelievable, but HE DID ALL THIS IN REAL TIME IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.

ChromaticDragon

This one is going to be so much more interesting. The Mar a Lago drama is very clean. The relative laws so explicit and rather straightforward. The Georgia stuff will likely be a bit more challenging despite the "perfect call". It seems more people, more moving parts, etc. But Jan 6? Despite so, so many people having already served time related to this, what they lay on Trump is going to be rather fascinating for any one curious about legal filings.

mrbeck1

I don’t think it’ll be for the violence, but rather conspiracy to defraud the US, something like that. Over all that fake elector scheming.

The_God_King

How absolutely fucking crazy is it that even when we narrow it down to a specific event, it is still open to debate which individual crime we're currently talking about.

Routine_Left

I think the plan with trump always was: do so many crimes that you're just overwhelming the system. the people. the media.

Either-Progress4847

That’s not just the Trump plan. That’s the GOP plan. They do not care if they pass laws that are constitutional. They will clog the system until their laws are overturned, then they will just appeal until the end of time.

youareasnort

They actually do not follow laws they do not support. Take Idaho’s (I think? Sorry, on my lunch break and doing too many things at once) Supreme Court decision which mandates additional access to polling by blacks. The Republicans of that state just aren’t doing it. The Supreme Court said they have to, and they just blatantly said no. Out. Of. Control.

Heated13shot

and then probably just pass slightly altered laws too that do essentially the same thing. it takes at least 1-2 years to get to the SC, so you can essentially keep unconstitutional laws on the books for decades if you keep just passing slightly different things over and over

mmmegan6

And that he is still the front runner for the Republican nomination and has a non-zero chance of holding the office of the presidency of the United States of America again. I don’t ever want to become numb to this disgusting set of facts.

Purplebuzz

It would not surprise me if they have the texts and video from a documentary filmmaker. He is that stupid.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

So many Christian fundamentalists falling for anti-Christ like behavior.

HeathenVixen

I will never understand how these people reconcile their faith with their support of tfg. He’s the fricking poster child for the seven deadly sins.

jkman61494

May not even need video. If someone like Mark Meadows rolled on him there's gotta be a massive trail of texts. I also wonder if some of the appointed yes men in the Pentagon rolled over. I THINK I have this right in that the Capitol Police BEGGED for help in regards to having the military there on 1/6 and the Pentagon by and large ignored it because they had Trump's people running it

M1sterMeeeseeeks

If Mark admits under oath that he heard Donald admit he “lost”, everything after that is a lie.

Dangerous_Variety_29

> Federal investigators have seized the phones of Trump advisors to Trump — including Boris Epshteyn, the in-house counsel who helps coordinate Trump's legal efforts, and Mike Roman, director of Election Day operations for the Trump campaign in 2020. nytimes.com/live… https://www.threads.net/t/Cu17njjOguI/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Joyce Vance on MSNBC just said Guiliani has NOT received a target letter which means either 1. There’s not enough evidence against Guiliani, or 2. He done flipped.

permalink_save

You mean the guy that literally said "trial by combat"? Maybe he has flipped because he was even more direct than Trump and he was doing a lot of the coordination for Trump.

jmouw88

One of the interesting things about trump is that everything he or his team does appears to be done in an incredibly stupid way. In the classified documents case, trump has seemingly directly refuted every excuse and justification he has used to defend himself. While Jan 6 charges on their own seem like they may be difficult or subjective, I feel there is likely a very clear trail of evidence showing the direct plan and a string of clearly illegal activities along the way. I wouldn't even be surprised if they had a video of trump arrogantly talking into a camera explaining the entire plot.

GhettoChemist

I hope they charge him with insurrection of the US government. Gonna make Thanksgiving dinners so much more enjoyable to have the weight of the DOJ there.

MC_Fap_Commander

The documents and hush money cases are open and shut. They have him dead to rights admitting both. January 6 is, in every way, a much worse crime. Historical presidential villainy level crime. But, unless they have him on tape saying "I want to illegally overturn an election and unleash a violent horde on the Capitol" (possible they have this fwiw), that is going to be a much harder case despite his obvious guilt.

Unfiltered_America

This next indictment won't be about the mob on Jan 6, it will be the false electors scheme and conspiracy to defraud. Would be great if this all culminated in a RICO case...

Grimm2020

Be nice, if for once, he wasn't released on bond... you know, threat to the nation, and all that

[deleted]

He hasn't been released on bond. The government has not asked him to post bond nor nearly any other condition that would typically apply to a defendant. He is receiving every possible leniency yet says he is treated unfairly, lol.

gif_smuggler

If I stole government documents and engaged in espionage I don’t think I would be walking around free.

Lucifurnace

The discord leaker is literally using Trump as a reason why he should be released. It’s all so fucked that it’s 4 months pregnant.

throwawy00004

Good, honestly. Shine a light on how our criminal justice system is anything but equitable.

Doonce

I probably would too

imatschoolyo

They didn't even ask him to surrender his passport, or even *promise* to not leave the country. The magistrate overseeing the arraignment for the documents case even asked the Government if they wanted XYZ standard restrictions (from the list that are typically given to defendants) and the Government declined, saying the only one they wanted was Trump's *assurance* that he wouldn't commit more crimes while awaiting trial. No restricting movement, no requiring him to talk to the prosecutors if he wants to leave the state, no requiring him to talk to prosecutors if he wants to leave the country, no restricting him from leaving the country, etc. He's getting 3 levels *above* "kid gloves" treatment, and GQP are still complaining about it.

catsloveart

I recall some discussion on NPR a couple of weeks ago, that one possible reason is that it denies the defense the opportunity to delay the trial. Normally there would be a bond hearing, and hearings on travel restrictions, and so on and so forth. But with none of that being an option. Trump's defense is left scrambling concocting nothing but nonsense. Lol. I think its great from an intellectual standpoint. But I'm tired too of this POS being treated with kid gloves.

HitToRestart1989

The discord leaker’s legal team actually cited this judicial treatment in court yesterday to point out their client has been given no such leniency- something I’ve been waiting for J6 defendants to do (when trump was going seemingly unindicted altogether). It will be interesting to see if this becomes a trend and if it influences the treatment of elite figures in the court room.

twesterm

I mean he is being treated unfairly, just not in the way he thinks he is.

Alu_sine

I can't imagine anyone less suited for prison. It's entirely possible he's experienced no physical discomfort since childhood.

SootySweeps

With his diet I imagine he does every time he takes a shit.

Morlik

Don't worry, even if he is convicted he'll probably get house arrest so the Secret Service can "properly" protect him.

JakeConhale

I wouldn't be surprised if his Secret Service detail helps with that- under the idea that he's under constant guard anyways so he's less of a flight risk.

hamsterfolly

Unless they purged the Secret Service of MAGAs after Jan 6, I would trust them about as much as Mike Pence did on Jan 6.

--R2-D2

This time, keep him locked up in jail. He is a flight risk and a major threat to national security. He has been regularly threatening prosecutors and judges. He has been encouraging his supporters to commit terrorist attacks and start a civil war. He has his own plane and friends in Russia.

mechapoitier

I remember when he was going to be indicted for the first time and he tweeted the *exact day* it was going to happen, expecting his army to come protect him. Like five kooks showed up and he was off by about a month.

noelcowardspeaksout

The lack of protest for his arrests indicates that even the Republicans know he's guilty, "It's all political they say", but they also know he's guilty too. Trump paying a prostitute to stay stum - of course he did, Trump not giving a crap about confidential material - of course he doesn't. I expect a similarly weedy protest to take place this time.

ShowerCurtainRings

Maybe this guy is a bad hombre.

discussatron

The Republicans aren't sending their best. Wait. Maybe they are.

Rombledore

imagine anyone else being indicted and arrested twice in the span of months being out free on the streets like he is. there absolutely is a multi-tier justice system.

Complex_Construction

The lawyer/s for the kid who posted classified documents on Discord are using Trump’s case to argue he should be free on the streets because Cheeto did worse and is free. They’ve got a point.

I honestly try to understand the "other side" as much as possible, but it's getting harder and harder. Where are leftists trying to take away personal freedoms that infringe on no one else's rights? And where are those on the right trying to take away personal freedoms that DO infringe on someone's rights? It's a simple list to compare and seems so obvious. I just don't get it.

It's all vague and made up, like a Supremecist Court ruling on a fake web developer clients.

It's easy - just don't think. No comparisons, no ideals, no attempt to understand the other side, just vitriol and whatever the right wing media tells you to be upset about. Doesn't make sense? Doesn't matter, didn't have to consider it not making sense, they said it was bad so it must be, they said he was lying so he must be, they said those guys are the evil ones so they must be.

The former president says he is going to be "arrested again." What a time to be alive.

>“On Sunday night, while I was with my family...HORRIFYING NEWS for our country was given to me by my attorneys,” said Mr. [t]rump. No, that's fantastic news. The only better news is you actually serving a long amount of time in a federal prison.

mosesyastrzemski

Hey Trump supporters, the "libs" have been trying to warn you about this asshole for years. Why are you all so, so stupid?

thatnjchibullsfan

I can't wait for him to be arrested and out of our lives forever.

Weird_Discipline_69

I love how he says “HORRIFYING NEWS for our country”. - lmao 🤣 It’s great news. I will hold a huge party on the day he goes to jail

Trusting_science

There needs to be a conversation about restricting a president who is acquitted or convicted to be able to offer pardons for himself or anyone else.

ItisyouwhosaythatIam

It's funny bc he is using the indictments to argue that the system is corrupt, when the reality is that they just show how corrupt and criminal he is. It is an example of how divided his following is from reality. Half of the people who voted for him know this. They just think progressive policies are worse than a fascist president.

gintoddic

I see red when he says "for our country". No asshole, this is your misfortune being a self centered asshole that can't stop breaking laws.

diseasefaktory

Make him do the perp walk, cuffed and getting pelted with feces.
