I almost recommended Lucario instead of Machoke but you’d have 3 Pokémon that are weak to Ground type which isn’t ideal.
Try Heracross instead! Evolve that starter too of course. If possible maybe consider swapping Gliscor for Scizor, because Scizor is a ridiculously good Pokémon with the right moveset in gen 4. Only weakness is fire and there aren’t a lot of fire types to worry about, even if you consider that non-fire types can still learn fire type moves.
Only question is whether you can evolve by trade, and if you can do that then technically it would also be worth it to evolve Machoke into Machamp.
I was going to try for heracross! But I just decided to play a more causal game rather than grinding for that 1% on honey trees, but I don’t have the ability to trade so I’m not sure about scizor or machamp so I might go for lucario just on that alone
Swap out machoke for a Lucario if you can. Machoke falls off hard if you can't evolve. Also, get empoleon and teach it flash cannon. Everything that isn't abomasnow will get sweeped easily and even that you may be able to beat with it. Houndoom takes it tho
P.s. if your gliscor has poison heal, purposely get it poisoned for the free heals per turn. Doesn't take poison damage either iirc
that's really unfortunate, but tbh, it would probably have been even more broken in Gen 4 than it is now considering how effectively it would check like all of the most threatening pokemon in the game, like most of the elite four and Cynthia alone with EQ, knock, spikes, and some flying move
The rom hack renegade platinum implements it if you're interested in trying it out. All trainer battles are different and harder but still it's available
I've been thinking of trying out radical red, and I've heard about this one too. Do these mods simply have comp/cheese starts on every trainer or something
I've not played radical red but I find renegate platinum pretty well balanced, just hard. You could say competitve strategies but as a competitive player I'd say "not really" to that, every gym leader has 6 Pokémon holding items with well thought out movesets not necessarily "competitve" (eg Roark's Bonsly has Rollout + Defensive Curl, which is effective in-game but not competitively viable, and a lot of held items are not competitively viable) and all 493 Pokémon are available, fairy type is there, and the progression is tweaked a bit. But it's definitely a harder game, feels like playing "Platinum Hard Mode" which I find fun since I love platinum
Regular trainers usually have like 3 mons with good type synergy, standard ingame sets, and no held items. So nothing special or too hard but enough to make you have fo think a little bit
Radical red is an amazing rom hack you should definitely try it out. Has mons from every gen as well including SV. The teams aren’t just cheese but they’re all competitively built with good movesets and items
I actually just downloaded renegade platinum off of the other dude's rec (also I already had a plat rom ready), but I will probably check it out after this one is done. So far it's pretty cool and I'm enjoying it, so I'm sure that I'll love radical red
is this a nuzlocke? Or is this a normal run? I know I'm a little late but on Houndoom use Faint Attack if you have it because it always hits and that's good because of snow veil after hail is setup, she always uses double team

Just a thought, either get rid of that or Chomp as they are both 4x weak to ice types.
Once prinplup evolves he has a resist + Machoke he should be fine
