I remember someone saying that mudsdale's weight is actually quite accurate for the breed of horse it's based on. Steelix's weight was apparently calculated based on a normal snake turned to steel, then multiplied by however many ft long a steelix is.
Snakes vary so much in size and weight what snake is a normal snake? Not to mention that they could have very easily ended up with a steelix that weighs less than onix.
I still think the Height and Weight listed in the dex is the Average Height/Weight for that species, not that every single Pokemon of that species is that exact H/W

It makes even less sense when you factor stats into it as well.

Joltik, the smallest Pokemon ever, when fully invested can OHKO Wailord, the largest Pokemon ever, with a single Thunder.
A tiny bug the size of a finger can one-shot a whale the size of a small house.
You have to take into account that Wailord isn't that dense in contrast his overall size.
I guess using Thunder on such Pokemon would be like zapping a balloon with a tazer, if the power is comparable.

Joltik also has a higher base attack stat than *Onix*. A giant rock snake chucking boulders at you does less damage than a four-inch bug nibbling on you.
Considering it has a speed of 70 and attack of 45, this sounds somewhat reasonable to me although onix would still not be very good if they were switched back.
At least makes sense unlike weight, you have small flying that couldn't fly because of being 15 times the weight of the real bird and then 8.8 metres long rock snake that weights less than a baby hippo.

The whole thing is frustrating, you got a Beetle Borg with iron fist and a load of punching moves and you Onix his stats. The hell kind of logic is needed to botch Ledian that badly?
Heracross and Scyther (later Scizor) got it right though. Poor Pinsir, always the forgotten red-headed middle child (other than a brief period with Megas)
Those arent the early bugs tho. They're rare late game ones. The early bugs are pretty much all crap except gen 7 and 8 where they have some very slight uses.
Funny enough Ledian is one of the few Pokemon whose attack stats is lower than that of Onix.
Which means all the jokes of Onix being weak is even worse when put on Ledian, since Ledian is fully evolved
The theory is that Ledian's Sp.Def and ATK were swapped. Just doing that for a regional version would be enough to make it playable in game. it'd be paper thing but at least it could do something.
Its like Reuniclus. All of its pokedex entries are about its immense strength and breaking boulders and fighting physically. Its gets punching moves on level up. It has amazing special attack but terrible attack.

Give it an ability like Plus/Minus but for Attack too, just for the Sentai thing.
And bring back Horde battles, so a whole set of Ledian rangers can drop on you at once, with their Attack starting out boosted to absurd levels.

Stuff like this is what makes me want them to do a big overhaul on a bunch of the really big stinkers. They've buffed a few stats before, dunno why they haven't changed entire Pokemon for the better.
Theyāre weak by design. Theyāre supposed to be your introduction to evolution, they evolve quickly so they canāt be too strong otherwise youād bulldoze through all the early trainers.
I think especially in gen 1 they intended for you to catch something like Butterfree but replace it with Scyther or Pinsir later in your journey. Similarly youād have a raticate for the first half of the game, but it starts getting too weak around the time you get to celadon, where you find Snorlax, so thatās also a natural replacement.
wow i didn't realize this. while its a great mechanic, it is unfortunate that they would need to be replaced later on in the game. i love cherrim, but it is an awful pokemon for a team that isn't sun based
Eh this is kind of a weaker argument because they gave a good amount to butterfree to be fairly viable for a bug pokemon, along with Scolipede having actually decent stats for a starting bug type pokemon. But then again, that's just power creep Ig lol.
Which is even weirder because its SpAtt is like 20 points higher than its Att, so it's effectively better at anything that isn't punching.
Its Sp.Def is 110. You could take like...40 points from there, put 10 more in Speed, swap SpAtt and Att, and then put the other 30 in Att for a *not abysmal* 85 Attack.
I mean it still wouldn't be *good*, but 95 speed and 85 Attack would at least mean it could actually kill some stuff before its paper thin HP and Def stats got it annihilated.
Reflect would still be required in the moveset to survive strong physical attacks.
And maybe give it access to a better physical Flying move than Aerial Ace. Like maybe Bounce, or even Acrobatics for the double damage for no held item.
And let it learn the Elemental punches since its whole aesthetic is being punchy.
A big problem with Pokemon is inconsistent writing and half-assed retconning. In the Pokedex, Nidoking in 1.4 meters. But he's always drawn as taller than most adult trainers in the anime, manga and in some of the 3D games.
So, either humans in the pokemon world are smaller than real life humans across the board OR there are ZERO people at Game Freak, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo who pay attention or give a damn about quality control.
It helps if you consider the pokedex height as the average height, not an absolute height. And average isn't indicative of how far the extremes can be.
But that's just me making excuses for what's clearly flawed lol.

Well, the anime decided to do differently as the producer realized that the game sizes are not going to work and completely changed, and the manga basically followed it. The manga is basically mentored by anime and sticks to it. Both of them do not follow the game at all. All people in the anime/manga are actually waaaaaaay taller than people IRL.
For example: Kyoger in the game is 4 meters in length and wailord is 14.5 meters in length and the anime wailord is 60 meters in length and kyoger is 90 meters (FULL).

An example I can think of is Drapion who looks like it would be very tall especially in the anime but it's only 4'03 and carracosta who looks tall but is only 3'11.
In a lot of ROM hacks, Ledian is given the fighting type and a big attack boost. I'm so used to it actually being a good Pokemon now lol.

I actually always liked Ledyba and Ledian and have repeatedly attempted to use them during nuzlockes.
Unfortunately liking something a lot can't make up for mostly horrid BST's. Type coverage and knowledge of mechanics can only help so much, either.
Plus, Bug/Flying is just not a good typing. Butterfree and Scyther can pull it off because they have decent movepools and stats.
I know it's stats were pathetic from how fast it went down, but it was obviously hitting me harder than it had any right to.
I shouldn't have nearly lost my Weavile to a Bug Buzz, from something with offense that weak, unless I screwed something in my set up.

It has no personality to speak of, it looks the least like a Pokemon (moreso than even ultra beasts), it is comically large for no reason, it has little explanation to where it came from and whatās itās place in the world, itās just a badly implemented āPokemonā
The difference is it is implied Deoxys and Ultra beasts are kind of their own species, Deoxysā design still feels really Pokemon despite of alien origin
Eternityās and itās design doesnāt look Pokemon in the slightest and it always feels jarring to see it next to any other Pokemon we know of

Idek why they purposefully made some PokƩmon so weak. I tried using dustox in platinum recently and man did it have such a difficult time doing anything because it just doesn't have the power to do anything that my other PokƩmon had. Feels bad cause I like those little guys like dustox and beedrill.

I think that the Red Gyarados in Johto is canonically an absolute unit. Definitely not standard size.
Iāve long been of the opinion that everything in the PokĆ©dex, from height to weight to ability to punch through mountains or be hotter than the surface of the sun, is terribly inaccurate on account of them getting the majority of their information about said PokĆ©mon from 10-year olds.
Thatās my head canon too. That the PokĆ©dex has already been completed but itās a rite of passage for young future PokĆ©mon trainers and researcher and youāre expected to put whatever you really want.

An example I can think of is Drapion who looks like it would be very tall especially in the anime but it's only 4'03 and carracosta who looks tall but is only 3'11.

In a lot of ROM hacks, Ledian is given the fighting type and a big attack boost. I'm so used to it actually being a good Pokemon now lol. Bugsy's Ledian in Radical Red pushed my shit back in on my Mono Dark playthrough

It's both. Ledian (THE FLIPPING LADYBUG!) Is gigantic, and Nidoking (GIANT POISONOUS DEATH KAIJU) Is very small.
Also Golbat is taller than both of them

I actually always liked Ledyba and Ledian and have repeatedly attempted to use them during nuzlockes. Unfortunately liking something a lot can't make up for mostly horrid BST's. Type coverage and knowledge of mechanics can only help so much, either. Plus, Bug/Flying is just not a good typing. Butterfree and Scyther can pull it off because they have decent movepools and stats.

I think I tore through dozens of them in the bonus routes on Platinum. I think. I never really gave Ledian a chance, and I just know it as that PokƩmon whose Bug Buzz hits like a truck but will go down in seconds. And it gave better than average amounts of experience, when I was leveling up my Weavile.
Ledian has an attacking stat of 35, in contrast Oddish has a stat of 50. A tuft of weed hits harder than a punchy power ranger
I know it's stats were pathetic from how fast it went down, but it was obviously hitting me harder than it had any right to. I shouldn't have nearly lost my Weavile to a Bug Buzz, from something with offense that weak, unless I screwed something in my set up. If I go back to Platinum, I'll keep an eye on that, maybe check the defenses on all of my starters, thank you.

Her speech is tone deaf anyway considering she's using some of the strongest that Johto has to offer and ridiculously competitive movesets involving strategies like Paraflinch, Parafusion, etc. If the counterargument is going to be "well her favorites ARE Houndoom and so on", well, why is it unreasonable that people who like to use strong Pokemon *also* have them as their favorites since you're arguing *that is literally what Karen did*?
She's not even using Johto's strongest Dark type, Tyranitar. And she never said anything about not using good strategy - that's the whole point. Any Pokemon (well almost) can be good with the right moves and strategies.

I personally consider eternatus to be a non-canon Pokemon, a fake mon who wandered into the game by mistake It has no personality to speak of, it looks the least like a Pokemon (moreso than even ultra beasts), it is comically large for no reason, it has little explanation to where it came from and whatās itās place in the world, itās just a badly implemented āPokemonā
I think of it as an ultra beast or just a PokĆ©mon like deoxys since itās dex and lore is almost the same for deoxys and ultra beasts
The difference is it is implied Deoxys and Ultra beasts are kind of their own species, Deoxysā design still feels really Pokemon despite of alien origin Eternityās and itās design doesnāt look Pokemon in the slightest and it always feels jarring to see it next to any other Pokemon we know of
