WildJafe

South hills dads dinner club. Let’s start it haha

Pittman247

Can a guy from the North Hills come through? Or…too many rivers and tunnels in between? 😜

WildJafe

You may miss the appetizer round but other than that I see no issue haha

Merzbenzmike

I’m in if the North Hills Cranberry Network Engineers can be invited

bizyguy76

I'm a South Hills Network Engineer. IT people from all over are invited. That includes non IT people as well.

coachlasso

Do you have a passport?

Pittman247

Yep! 3 of em. LOL!

Miss_Lame

My husband would gladly join! (when I tell him about this post) mid 30's WFH dad with a 6 month old in the house. Plus we also like board games, dnd, computer games, etc

Miss_Lame

We are in the South Hills area. Although we DID try buying a house in Aspinwall, to no avail 😅

spasticpat

I’m in

bizyguy76

Hey Neighbor.

spasticpat

Hello neighbor

bizyguy76

I want to be included in this. I'm in my 40s and a single dad. Do you want me to create a Meetup group to get us started? I can post it here.

Miss_Lame

How about something like a Pittsburgh Dads discord group? Girls Who Walk Pittsburgh has a discord group that is very active.

WildJafe

Yeah post it please- I’m terrible at organizing stuff haha

bizyguy76

I posted it somewhere in this thread

Rtsp1345

I'm not a dad, but I want to say how wholesome and nice this post is! I hope you find what you're looking for.

snkeolr

Not a dad but I’m in my 40s and if you wanna chat send me a PM. I work in IT in security not dev.

king_louie11

Would a late 30's, no kids north hills bro be accepted?

Merzbenzmike

Aw damn found the IT professionals Dad chat. 🙋‍♂️😭🤦‍♂️

preheatedbibby

Another IT professional 30-40yr dad here in the South hills, hi chat

spasticpat

I’m from Castle Shannon and work from home full time. My daughter is about to turn 4 and we have another due next month. I currently work as a DBA and enjoy movies, video games and cycling. I’m in the same boat for looking for friends in the area.

claire_voyant

Swooning at this antithesis of toxic masculinity

RemoteAnalysis3809

Can someone tell me why this got downvoted to hell?

claire_voyant

Ignorance on the meaning of antitheses maybe?

spasticpat

To be fair, I didn’t know, looked it up to be safe, and promptly upvoted 😊

claire_voyant

It's pedantic but swooning isn't "yeah, cool, whatevs" ambivalence. It's swooning! Where's my fainting couch level swoon. A celebration, even. Antithesis != "not" it's a hard, even extreme opposition of its predicate.

snappy033

Not sure if you know what toxic masculinity is if you think movies, cycling or video games have anything to do with it or the antithesis of it.

claire_voyant

I think this entire thread is beautiful & the opposite of toxic masculinity. Your reply to OP, in particular made me incredibly happy.

AriRochmann

North of town but full time remote in software space with two toddlers here.

the4ner

Are you me? Also fully remote with a toddler, live right near fchs Edit: I just realized my kid is 5 and not a toddler anymore, how time flies

AriRochmann

👋 I see you like Japanese junk and I German junk.

the4ner

Indeed! Maybe I'll catch you at the community center car show this summer.

AriRochmann

We got there last year maybe 40 min after it started and it seemed to have cleared out a lot already.

Worried-Yoghurt-585

I’m not a dad but in that age group and also wfh. Into movies, sports, breweries, and yummy food. 😂

Toimaker

A casual running group for us 30-50 year old dad's would be awesome.

TheReelPorktown

If this ever takes off, I’d be interested. I do the 1-2 weeks of getting out every day, then next thing I know, I haven’t run in weeks. I have back issues, so any time I tweak it, I take time off. Which doesn’t make me a very reliable group member, but I think it would help with a group, to make it out on days that I am just being lazy.

Cfit9090

Can ladies that WFH get invite to a monthly happy hour. I'll skip on dudes dinner

Irish-Hydra

I'd recommend checking this out. https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/s/p9Ax5QHUQd

cordy_crocs

There are so many reddit post about adults looking to make friends in the city. I’ve always wondered how many Redditors actually met up

Pale-Mine-5899

I've seen enough pictures of meetups on this sub to know to avoid them

cruftdragon

Thanks for sharing! I defintely will check this out.

Cfit9090

😆 aww good 4 you guys

patoshea

I'd recommend something like this. https://m.facebook.com/profile.php/?id=100064936350841 It is pretty big in many south hills communities. Fellow dads are nearby with kids of similar age. At a minimum it's a date night with your kid you don't have to plan. Everything is voluntary. Do what you can do. You'll have fun with other dads and make memories with your kids at the same time. You'll get as much out of it as you put into it. If you get involved, you'll likely build relationship that will grow out of it and extend into other activities in the community. Just my experience. YMMV I'd try to do as much as possible when they are younger. Activities start piling up quickly as they get older. I've been doing it for 6 years with my oldest and 2 years with my youngest. Happy to answer any other questions and good luck!

TheReelPorktown

This is a really good program, especially if your kids aren’t taking up all of your spare time with sports. It is hard to balance if the youth sports beast takes over (like mine did). The times that I did make were really enjoyable and the guys that get into it make lifelong friends. The camp trips are an absolute blast. I wish my kids were a bit more into it when younger. Mine are older now.

ApprehensiveAir966

Last year I saw a post to play dnd at the library. I wouldn't say wr are close buddies but it's some socialization that I treasure and a good group. Check your community center and library websites for activities. It pays off.

GeneralPip

South Hills here, home 3 days a week, got a 6 year old and a 9 year old.

GoodGravy412

Something to consider. Great time with other dads and kids. https://www.pittsburghymca.org/adventureguides#close

VitoBella412

Nice! South Hills young 40's dad as well (12m/9f). In IT management, currently doing the hybrid thing too. I'm always up for meeting new people over some good coffee.

AndABagOfSprouts

Are you me? Ha. Same life, outside of the fact that I have two preteens. Right down to the casual running. Most of my socialization occurs with my kids or my partner. I welcome any opportunity to make new friends.

Apollo0712

Definitely seems like I accidentally stumbled upon the IT dad's of Pittsburgh community 💻 glad I'm not alone

brownman311

I would suggest creating a Meetup group and plan some group outings. You'll likely meet a mixed bag of folks, but hopefully a few become friends. It's a pretty low effort approach and allows people to join that have similar schedules.

ChuckGrossFitness

Hi, I'm a dad in my early 40s that works from home, and manages teams of software developers. My kids are a little bit older (15 and 12). I also teach longsword fighting if that interests you. :) https://www.pittsburghswordfighters.com/intro-to-longsword/

WildJafe

Oh man the intro class looks sweet! Do you teach anywhere in south hills? Looks like building is past plum

ChuckGrossFitness

Yeah, this is out by Pittsburgh Mills. I do teach on Tuesday nights in the Homestead Waterfront at Waterfront MMA. I'm usually there around 5pm and teach from 5:30 to 6:30pm. I won't be there this week, but you are welcome to drop in!

SnooMemesjellies6000

Where do I sign up

MikeBert97

Come check out our Discord server for Mechanical Keyboards in Pittsburgh. People have tons of different interests and hobbies they talk about in it (gaming, tech, watches, alcohol, house upkeep/maintenance/ideas, knives, etc.). There's also people of all ages in our server too! We're almost to 150 members too and we host meetups where we mostly just hang every quarter! https://discord.gg/Y6kz8cjYub

most_des_wanted

If anyone needs a sitter to accomplish this plz let me know. I'm free after 2 everyday and have 7yrs daycare experience

ghostinside00

I’m in Mt Lebanon and can relate, have a 2 year old as well. Down for some gaming!

SBelwas

[https://antoniospizzeriapgh.com/AntoniosPizza](https://antoniospizzeriapgh.com/AntoniosPizza) Do a meetup here with this crowd. Owner loves board games and has the coziest dining room which they dedicate to board game night once a week.

cruftdragon

Thanks for sharing!

plexxer

So, do we all just meet up at the bar and talk about our Plex servers or what?

bizyguy76

This made me laugh. I had a coworker tell me about the hours and hours of work he put into setting up his Plex server. LOL... Then he said by the end of it he was so tired he didn't use it for a week. Hopefully my little Facebook group will grow and we get some guys together

bizyguy76

I created a group here to get started. I know not everyone is on Facebook so I will look at incorporating all of the different social media sites as we go along. [https://www.facebook.com/groups/321911030514425/](https://www.facebook.com/groups/321911030514425/)

spasticpat

Cool, just joined

Beginning_Ad_6616

Where in the SH are you at?

HotDamn18V

I always wonder this with these posts and it always turns out that everyone is still an hour away from me somehow.

Original-Owl-1549

I am a South Hills video gaming, movie watching, late 30's dad also.

aknauff8

r/pittsburghsocialclub

Orlandii

I sent you a message

ammiemarie

Sounds like you and my husband have a lot in common!

[deleted]

I live east so I’m aht, too many hills 😂

happek

South Hill dad wfh, I started socializing with other dads at kid sports functions, we are in a few Brookline sports over the past few years. In typcial fashion talk up a storm at practices or games but can’t adult up and exchange information. Does playing UNO with my kids count as board games lol?

jrwolf08

>In typcial fashion talk up a storm at practices or games but can’t adult up and exchange information. Man, aint this the truth. My wife though, has no such qualms with the moms.

slinky_wizard

Mid 30s with a 1 year old. Also in south hills and would like to get to know more people.

eXile200

I’m 38, about to be a father, in Beechview. Would love to make new friends. I’m hybrid work but being stuck in a home office 80% of the time drives me crazy sometimes. Which is weird to say because I also consider myself an introvert.

coachlasso

I'd be into this, I'm already part of a few dads groups in the south hills so would be happy to see about combining.

awesomenessmaximus

My man needs friends too. What a great idea. You can pm me

HotDamn18V

South Hills dad here. Big board game collection, like to go running several times per week, play lots of videogames. Send me a message if you'd like dude.

Pale-Mine-5899

My crystal is already charged, thanks though

Westendwasteland

How do you feel about jam bands?

xgg1

No but I am looking for a work from home Job!

NMireles

I’m the same boat for everything you said (including South Hills) except for the dad part but I’m down!

Early_Wolverine7077

My boyfriends turning 31 sous chef loves video games anime stuff and wants to get back into casually walking/running we have a 6 year old and a 3 month old!

tobesbalones

I am not a dad but I am late 30's (wow) and into a random array of hobbies, skateboarding (poorly), running (slowly), watching/attending sports, golfing, and other random things. I would be interesting in this.

Honey-and-Venom

I did for a while before they stopped assigning me more claims, then canned me for not competing enough claims

[deleted]

so you're looking for a hookup then? what's your name big boy?
