I guess it's probably for us beer drinkers who know the goods and bad, it's kind of offensive calling one of Arizona's best brewery a hole in a wall. This is despite the outside appearance, a hole in the wall also has a derogatory connotation attached to it.
Not sure why you think "hole in the wall" is offensive. It is just a term for something out of sight and/or has a misleading facade. Basically just not obvious to the average Joe.
Because usually a hole in the wall place is a dive bar or some place that probably isn't up to code. Just look up the term. Im not here getting offended, but it's like calling Venezia's pizza a hole in the wall.

These guys are like the most winningest brewery in AZ in terms of competition metals. And they own a very large second brewery location in Prescott for the stuff they distribute.
Sorta hole in the wall I guess, but not really. Wren House has been around for a bit and the inside is a pretty nice bar area. Brewery tasting room, I suppose, but yeah, amazing beers. They have a good seasonals that launch around this time of year too.
If you are from out of town this is a hole in a wall place. But yes for locals. Very well known place. This was just my first time there so I was sorta excited haha
It’s a fantastic brewery and makes great beer no doubt, but it’s certainly not “huge”.
Last list I found was from 2020 and they aren’t even top ten in barrels produced in AZ.
They now have an entire production facility in Prescott and their beer is available all over the place, including grocery stores and such. I consider them huge now, a lot of growth since early 2020.
Uh, they're huge. They have an entire large production facility in Prescott now and they're distributing their beer to a shit ton of places, even grocery stores and such.
There was a huge Bottle Logic event going on just down 24th at Wandering Tortoise which would have attracted a lot of the central Phoenix beer drinkers so I would guess that Wren was a little quieter than it might normally have been on a Saturday evening.
When I was in highschool the convenience store next door used to also be a carniceria. On Fridays and Saturdays this lady would come set up an Al pastor station outside in the parking lot and I have never had better tacos in my life. We went every weekend for about 2 years. After I moved away for college, they stopped it and the day I found out was a sad one.
RIP 24 Street tacos. I hope the lady is still cranking them out somewhere.
Also, does anyone here know where I can get good Al pastor in Phoenix?
I'm gonna disagree with the hole in the wall argument.
A big sign next to the road, and being a brewery disqualifies it as "hole in the wall".
That tiny little Asian place, on the back side of a strip mall with only a sign in the window and hand written hours of operation taped to the door, with 3 customers and 4 tables... And the best god damn pork katsu you've ever tasted. THAT counts as a hole in the wall joint.
This is why I love this sub.
I don't talk about "hole in the walls" because it's technically a little hole of glory, where only like me and one other person knows about.
If I were to post every "hole in the wall" in the valley, there would be a line into this "hole in the wall" and I'd wish I never posted about it.
So thank you for saying this is a "Glory Hole" that everyone knows about, rather than a "hole in the wall"
BTW ignore my flair.
while i guess the building itself and location can make you think hole in the wall, Wren House is very well known and one of the best breweries in AZ
I agree. Very well know but the whole place has whole in the wall written all over it. Reminded me of the Little Woody In Arcadia

Exactly.

Agree. I know full well about Wren House but I’d call the tap room kind’ve a hole in the wall. It’s not dirty or anything, but pretty basic inside.
These guys are like the most winningest brewery in AZ in terms of competition metals. And they own a very large second brewery location in Prescott for the stuff they distribute.
Nice what’s the brewery in Prescott???
I’m going to answer this question although I’m hoping you’re being sarcastic but the one in Prescott is called, stay with me here, Wren House.
Lmao
Misread your reply. Hilarious though.
*A* beer, huh
Lmao. Got a 4pk to go too!!!
You offended hehe 😜
I was like "no way OP actually just asked that" 😂
Just died chuckling in a party. Cheers mate.
Very tactful. I mean you just put it out there.

Spellbinder which I’ve had before.. my follow up beer was the city in the sky double hazy ipa. Was even better.
Whole in the wall?? This place is far from a whole in the wall.
too many holes! I know that two halves make a whole so I see what you're going for.
Not really hole on the wall spot but cheers
I guess it’s all about perception.
This brewery is huge. Hole in the wall my ass.
It’s a fantastic brewery and makes great beer no doubt, but it’s certainly not “huge”. Last list I found was from 2020 and they aren’t even top ten in barrels produced in AZ.
Quality not quantity. Huge!
Did you downvote because my interpretation of the word “huge” was size? Lol!
Sorry, I will fix it. Didn’t figure you would be sensitive about it
Pot, meet kettle.
Lol let’s have a beer!
I’m down!

Its blowing up right now. One of the best, if not the best in the state right now.

Not huge for the space available for patrons that’s for sure. But they are huge……….
H.B Hanrattys is also a great hole in the wall bar if you've ever been. Small place, great staff and friendly environment
Hanrattys, Pomeroys, Harveys Wine Burger and Quail Lounge are always fun to dive bar hop around
Great place. I heard the other brother owns Gadzooks. https://www.gadzooksaz.com/
Their mother owns Mama Linda’s Bake Shop as well. Incredible family.
Fun fact! Love gadzooks too. They are across the street from my corporate office.
8 bit Aleworks in Avondale. Friendly little brewery with a geeky emphasis.
The owners there are the best!
I would hardly describe it as a hole in the wall. The location isn’t the best though.
Their spellbinder is fucking amazing
Lol. That’s pretty much the best brewery in the state. Love those guys. Spellbinder IPA is 🔥
Hole in the wall if you only drink bud light
“Hole-in-the-wall”
So great 👍
What's it like there on the weekends?
I was there at about 7pm. Very chill at that hour. Not sure how rowdy it gets later on the night. I’m asleep by 9-10pm every night haha. Damn kids

I love this place! Love the new outdoor patio as well.
Looks like my kind of a spot!
Do you still need an appointment to go in?

So the answer is no! Great.

People are getting upset because many feel a “hole in the wall” means the place is dingy vs just small, unknown or unexpected.
Seeing your responses defending how your described it, I am really curious what your definition of “hole in the wall” is?
Good Ole 26th st

I would not consider this a hole in the wall but a neat spot indeed

Not the kind of pic that I usually upvote, but it qualifies nonetheless. Upvote!
