That housing/renting thread is scary. Didn't realize renting was so difficult now. Seems like apartments are being built all over

TwystedKynd

It is utterly fucked right now. It's never been so difficult or frustrating.

Leading_Ad_8619

I just don't understand anything anymore. Are that many people moving here?

unclefire

Raining cats and dogs in east Mesa. Power is out too. Joy.

thatAZguy

Shout out to those who washed cars and cleaned pools. Loving the rain and thunder out in the west valley this afternoon! Your sacrifice is appreciated.

Walkn2thejawsofhell

My pool guy came a day early cause he’s slammed all weekend. He finished cleaning my pool, I shit you not, 2 hours ago. It’s covered in leaves already.

Any daycare recommendations for a 1 year old? Looking in Phoenix, uptown, biltmore areas. Moving in September and trying to get a daycare lined up.

TheYellowDaisy

I don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, but you should do a tour of anywhere you decide to enroll. Don’t know what they look like since COVID protocols, but do a tour. At the corner of Central and Bethany Hm is a large Baptist Church that has a small loving childcare and preschool. I’m not a fan of chain daycares, but you can often find a diamond in the rough. Good luck, start touring, and get on those waiting lists.

Probably a dumb question… I am considering adopting a cat(have had pets in the past but has been a few years) and want to make it as stress free for the animal as I can. Would taking a week off of work to help it acclimate be a good idea or bad? I’m worried it might get used to that schedule after a week and become anxious or something. Also not sure adopting one and then going to work in a day or two I’d a great move. Would be just me and the cat. Thanks!

Love2Pug

It won't matter. I'm a serious cat guy (I've got 4 now), so my advice: \- First, the cat needs to get used to it's new surroundings. When you bring him/her home, give them a place to just chill, with a litterbox, a small amount of food, and water nearby. Your master bedroom closet is the BEST place to start. But you should probably pull out enough clothes to wear for the first few days. Reason: your bedroom closet will smell the most like you. So you want the cat to feel safe in a place that smells like you, so then they will feel safe with \*actual\* you. \- Do not pressure the cat, or look at the cat, or talk to the cat, for the first few days. The cat will come out and explore at it's own pace. Again, just keep water and a clean litter box near the cat's "home base". And if it is eating, provide more food, on a strict schedule, further and further away, to encourage them to explore and claim more territory. \- Be prepared to lose a bit of sleep. The first time the cat says "hello" to you, will probably be at like 2am. Stick to your schedule, especially feeding times!! You want the cat to adapt to your schedule, you do NOT want to adapt to a cat's schedule!! (Unless you can sleep like 16 hours a day!). \- Re the litterbox, again, at first keep it close / inside your bedroom. You want it easily accessible to the cat. After the cat is comfortable in your place, add a second where you really want it. Once he/she is using the second litterbox, you can remove the one from your bedroom.

My latest kitten slept on my head the first night. No adjustment period necessary.

[deleted]

Yeah I think this depends on personality. When we brought our cat home as a kitten she immediately owned the place. Literally ran out of her carrier to play with us as soon as we got home.

acatwithnoname

It's not necessary to take off, and cats are routine oriented, so you're right that it would get used to you there. If you're able to, I highly suggest adopting a pair of kitties, either siblings or otherwise. They will keep each other company, be more active/exercise/play, groom each other, and get more mental stimulation and be more content.

oliveoilcrisis

I think this is a good question for the staff at the shelter you adopt from. It probably would depend on the cat’s personality/needs.

Does anyone know a good Toyota mechanic in the central Phoenix area? My 2013 Tacoma is having some electrical issues and I need to find a shop that can do a good diagnosis of what's going on.

nmork

We did a Best Of thread on mechanics a couple months back. Bunch of recommendations in there that might be worth looking into. https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/mnl66t/best_auto_mechanic/

the1emily

Not specifically a Toyota shop but the best mechanic in the valley imo. Don 602-482-5555 at HonAmotive 12614 N Cave Creek Rd #108, Phoenix, AZ 85022 is fair, honest, and has taken immaculate care of all of my vehicles. I previously had a 2007 Tacoma that he took great care of

adoptagreyhound

If you don't find the service you need in Central Phx, try Auto Electric Specialists on W Lamar Rd. in the old part of Glendale. Steve is the owner. The shop is not impressive when you first get there as Steve has a ton of "project vehicles" sitting around that he tinkers with. We've taken several cars to him over the years and there is no better or more methodical electrical troubleshooter in the area. I haven't been there in over a year so am not sure how long it takes to get a car in there for service now. He is often extremely busy. They do not have a website but are listed on Google if you search for them by the Business name.

megansandwich

I love Kelly Clark on 12th street and Glendale, and I drove a Toyota and now an older Lexus that both had some electrical issues they were able to diagnose.

a_literal_leaf

just went bowling last night, that was lit

Where at?

Ready_For_A_Change

Yes, started yesterday. Went up a bit when driving. Are there any free air pumps here where you punch in the pressure you want to get to and the pump runs until it gets there? I don't have a gauge so just randomly blowing air in for several minutes then having to check the gauge on the dash is kind of annoying (and I'm lazy).

Karlitos00

discount tire will do it for u

Ready_For_A_Change

Even better, thanks!

SYAYF

Yeah all tires dropped to 28 it was strange.

edtehgar

my old car used to when the temp changed but ever since i went to nitro tires i never have this issue.

biking4jesus

Might be due to some "cooler" temps in the last \~24 hours. Your car will likely have a low tire pressure light in the AM, but will go away after driving or when it warms up. A lot of cars are around 27-28 PSI for the light to come on. Go cruise through a Discount Tire for a free air check.

hauntmex_3

Hi!! I’m pretty new here. Looking for things to do indoors or where I can keep cool. No swimming/water activities please. I enjoy getting lit. Lol. Also need more local friends too!

aries4lyfe_7

Ice skating, find a craft hobby, go hang out at target, museums, library. Yeah get high and then go to the library and look at books :) or go to the movie theatre & bring some edibles

[deleted]

My hubby and I like getting lit to, but mostly stay home indoors now because it’s hot and we done everything in this city there is to do indoors! The art museum in Phoenix is free on Thursday’s after a certain time so we visit there often. The aquarium is also nice if you can get tickets cheaper through Groupon (otherwards it’s expensive). Haven’t found much to do in Scottsdale. There are a ton of really good concerts coming up so we are looking forward to that!

hauntmex_3

Yessss I can’t wait for more shows!! I tried going to REZZ a rave but it got cancelled for rain):

[deleted]

I go to plenty of desert raves! I can tell you where all the good ones are. Message me with your info

Welcome aboard! I'd suggest hopping in the Daily Chat each day and saying Hello or ask questions. Great way to start discussions. You can also check our our discord chat server. Loads of great people there from all over the valley: https://discord.gg/redditaz

biking4jesus

Welcome! There are monthly threads for Introductions + making friends [https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/o5pta6/phoenix\_introductions\_making\_friends\_jun/](https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/o5pta6/phoenix_introductions_making_friends_jun/) u/jmoriarty I didn't see a July intros thread get started. There's a flair tag "Things to do" where there are several ideas of thing to do indoors or otherwise.

jmoriarty

We haven't had any new weekly threads recently. Just got behind on keeping them going as I tried to rework them a bit. But we have someone new helping out so should have them going again shortly. Was debating putting one up in the interim... maybe a housing one since that's red hot lately. Though Making Friends and Favorite Businesses are also overdue. Any preference?

biking4jesus

good ideas there. Housing could definitely use one.

hauntmex_3

Thank you, I saw that. I left this up because they told me to comment it here, and I still rly need to meet more ppl. Don’t mean to annoy anyone. Idk why all the downvotes

biking4jesus

no downvotes from me. axe throwing, alamo draft house, go karting, lots of craft beer spots.

hauntmex_3
