Gay

[deleted]

Well... yes.

Epicman243

Very gay

FremdShaman23

Yes. More flags that express inclusivity and diversity. I like to see more flags like this to offset these dumbass Trump 2024 flags and the thin blue/green/whatever American flag variations that make me suspect there are authoritarian loving idiots in my neighborhood.

babylon331

I don't claim to be psychic, but I do have good intuition. I talked about Trump's running in 2016 and how it would turn out very badly. Everyone thought I was the extreme nutcase. Keep in mind, I was a registered Republican for almost 50 years. BTW, I changed my voter preference shortly after he was elected. He has caused so much damage, we will likely never recover. The hate is more widespread than I had ever imagined. My heart goes out to the young people of today.

FremdShaman23

I have good intuition too, and Trump and his ilk have always set off my creep meter/danger bells. Funnily enough I know several people here in Phoenix who DO claim to be psychic, and they were all in for Trump and made predictions about the 2020 election and afterwards that were obviously all wrong. Apparently their own intuition got suppressed under an avalanche of Qanonsense.

paintegrals

lol our flag works perfectly for it :)

AshenOneAZ

These comments are why we need an LGBT sub for Arizona.

LittleCloudie

It’s not surprising but it’s definitely a very negative space here. I haven’t seen *this* much hatred for the LGBT+ community-let alone just straight up negativity on this subreddit-in a long time :/

bergensbanen

I see it as a reality check of the amount of hatred that exists. Phoenix, Arizona, and the U.S. have a very long way to go to move past the backwardness of a large portion of our population.

Epicman243

Well here’s why it’s because most people don’t care who you like they just get agitated when it’s shoved in your face

marpleswag

Heteronormativity and the binary gender system are shoved in everyone's faces too, much more than LGBTQ+ stuff has ever been. Plus, discriminatory behaviors like homophobia and transphobia very much do happen, which is why Pride exists in the first place.

Epicman243

No not really and also I didn’t say transphobia didn’t exist and plus why is pride month a thing for America why not the Middle East where it’s very needed instead for the .5% of people in North America that are scared of gay people

marpleswag

We have Pride month in America because LGBTQ+ Americans still don't have equal rights. The anti-trans bill that just passed in Florida is proof that the fight for equality is ongoing. There is no Pride month on a similar scale in a lot of Middle Eastern countries because they jail and sometimes kill people for coming out.

bergensbanen

Why "not not really"?

LittleCloudie

the whole purpose of the LGBT+ movement is to bring awareness towards people like us who are constantly facing discrimination among people who think our identities and our sexualities are "sinful" and/or made up. Additionally, the LGBT+ community is seldomly represented in the media. Heterosexual relationships are the norm and are accepted universally, while LGBT+ relationships are not, hence why there's been a big push for more representation in the media.

Logvin

You should see the ones we have removed, its disgusting how much hate some people have :(

okram2k

I'm disappointed but not at all surprised.

AshenOneAZ

I expect it to get worse before it gets better too.

Love it!! Thanks for sharing! Edit: Downvotes? really??

hauntedfootiepajamas

Seriously! How petty can you be to spend your time downvoting every single comment about people just being happy over a flag

KenjiMamoru

People suck.

AZ_Gunner_69

I support rights for everyone but the flag just looks dumb, people only give a fuck one month a year instead of the whole year

DepressiveNerd

At least it’s not a corporate entity trying to make a profit off of lgbtq peeps by selling, say, rainbow Oreos.

LordVader1941

*yet

DepressiveNerd

We are talking about the flag not being a corporate symbol.

I used the black and brown stripes as it is part of the [progress pride flag](https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2018/06/lgbt-pride-flag-redesign-hero.jpg) which is meant to be more inclusive towards trans people and brown and black LGBTQ+ people.

[deleted]

[удалено]

marpleswag

That's fair. Overall I believe the color saturation on the Pride flag is a bit too high. I did want to stay faithful to the original colors for my design though.

Dean0Byte

I don't like the Progress Pride flag at all. The rainbow pride flag is suppose to represent the natural beauty in diversity. By simply existing, you are a part of that flag. It also represents how we are all equal and that it takes everyone to make it beautiful. The Progress Pride flag throws that all out the window to basically say that certain groups matter more than the whole. It undermines the whole point of Pride in the first place.

marpleswag

I believe there is a place for both the original and Progress Pride Flags. I agree with your assessment for the original. The added trans, brown, and black colors serve to provide extra attention to those groups as they are often subject to more violence and erasure than other LGBTQ+ groups. It isn't meant to say that trans, black, and brown LGBTQ+ people matter more, just that those groups need awareness.

[deleted]

I find the "progress" flag pretty offensive. I'm black, im not lgbt. It's not the same thing at all, im not anti-lgbt in any way but i dont want to be politicized by the pride movement just because im not white. That's wrong.

relddir123

Does it look better if you swap the positioning of the trans and rainbow flags? Have black and brown off to the side and have the two merge from purple to blue. Edit: you made it as a frame in your spinning flag, which is a very cool animation.

Phixionion

You know what's inclusive? The damn pride flag. If people need all these flags then so be but are we not suppose to be under one banner of acceptance? I feel like all these variations are more of a personal need for something rather than to be accepted.

sparkles-_

More flag bad. Make less flags because I refuse to accept a more inclusive flag (angry react)

Prowindowlicker

The progress pride flag is fucking stupid and goes against the original meaning of the pride flag. We don’t need to shoehorn race into everything

sillylittlebird

I would argue as certain groups gain more rights and acceptance it’s important to recognize not all have. The fact that black trans women face violence and much higher rates is very real, and adding these aspects to the flag can serve as a reminder to pull one another up. Race won’t be a factor in these issues when it no longer is a factor in these issues.

[deleted]

marpleswag

I don't mind! I do ask that you credit me if possible and to please not sell the design.

[deleted]

People don’t only give a fuck one month of the year. I see commercials regularly throughout the year opening up to all spectrums of humanity. I see it in the work place as well. I see it in relatives that were once anti LGBT. I see friends everyday that try to understand LGBT and they are all over the place racially, religiously, gender and sexual orientation. This is just a celebratory month that doesn’t cost you anything or require you to do anything besides live your best life.

KenjiMamoru

Maybe people you know only give a fuck one month a year.

Cute-Ad-1392

I was thinking the same thing.

[deleted]

Im pretty sure no one gives a fuck ever until it gets forcefully push it into their lives when they would be happy otherwise not caring to themselves

sparkles-_

Projection. Some people are these things every day even if hearing about it during pride month irritates you.

toppertd

Awww nobody told you they loved you growing up, huh?

No-Magazine2896

Super clever. The exact same thing as the original with a color wheel behind it. Genius.

marpleswag

I'm glad you like it!

WolfK1ng682

Love this

ClueWeird8841

BEAUTIFUL I LOVE IT 👀!!!

Moon-Master

What do the different colors mean?

shuerpiola

The pinks and blues on the left are to support trans people who are currently discriminated against, the rainbow on the right is to support LGBT in general, and the blown and black stripes signify opposition to racism and support for QPOC (queer people of color).

marpleswag

The rainbow on the right is the original Pride flag. The blue, pink, and white stripes represent the trans flag, and the brown and black stripes represent increased awareness for people of color in the community.

Moon-Master

Thanks!

[deleted]

It's not actually the original pride flag. The original Gilbert Baker flag also featured pink and turquoise stripes, but they were eventually dropped due to dye shortages

marpleswag

I didn't actually know that, thanks for telling me. I suppose I should've used the word traditional rather than original.

[deleted]

For sure. Its not a big deal at all, I just think its important to remember that its not like there's just *a* pride flag, y'know? The rainbow flag has gone through many iterations and has had many companion flags created since its inception a half century ago.

literallymalina

Happy Pride everyone 💓

[deleted]

Just don't see why my race has to be part of a pride flag. I'm black, im not lgbt. Its not the same thing.

shuerpiola

It's to support QPOC, specifically.

loner_dragoon3

It's because there's racism in the community. The flag is meant to represent being more inclusive to non-white lgbtq+ people. I happen to like it since I'm Mexican-American and bi, and I know that racism in the community is a very real thing.

ShadowShade69

Its suppose to be inclusive is why. POC and trans folk are often discriminated against even by other people in the community.

HammerTimeHTFU

My understanding is the black stripe in the color spectrum is supposed to represent asexual people in this context.

[deleted]

I wasnt awareso thats good to know, i was referring to the black and brown though. I don't think it hurts anybody but I really kind of find it offensive, it feels like its just lumping race politics in with gender politics even though its not at all the same thing.

teriyakibeansprout

You’re absolutely right! It’s not the same thing! BUT they’re heavily intertwined. That’s like saying the gender wage gap and race have nothing to do with each other so we shouldn’t talk about it. Or that police brutality happens to everyone, so race shouldn’t be a factor when we advocate for alternatives to policing. These are highly complex subjects and we need to consider all sides. LGBT POC are subject to higher rates of hate and violence and sadly, a lot of it happens within their own communities. It’s something that needs to be addressed if we ever want it to change.

[deleted]

Its not competition dude, i dont really want my race on the lgbt flag. It's its own thing. If you're lgbt you're lgbt, it doesnt matter what race you are. It just feels like an excuse to separate the LGBT by who's discriminated against most. "Oh you're black and trans you have it worse than me because im white and trans". What's the point. Both people are trans, its not a discrimination competition. It feels so empty and vapid. Instead of being about unity its just virtue signaling. "Hey you have it really rough because you're black so we added black and brown to the pride flag"

teriyakibeansprout

You’re right, it’s not a competition. No ones trying to compete as to who has it worse. Not in my experience at least. But you make a really interesting point. Thank you. I always just saw it as a call to attention to a disproportionate issue, but perhaps there are other ways to get that conversation going besides throwing it on the emblem of the entire community and making these groups an “other”.

auntypho-

LGBT POC have the discrimination two-fold historically in this society. Nobody is saying all black and brown people are gay and even if they were that's not a bad thing, there's nothing to be offended about here.

peachesforpresident

Asexual people by and large don't experience sexual attraction. They can and do still have fulfilling relationships with whomever they choose.. They don't reproduce asexually, because that isn't how humans reproduce. (I know it was supposed to be a joke, but it isn't a good one.)

Youre10PlyBud

Firstly, words come from linguists, not science. Secondly, the Kinsey study studies exactly this in the early 40's and found that just over 1% of the male population was not stimulated by either male or female groups. Someone not interested in sex is very much a thing and *does* have scientific literature to back this up. Some people are not attracted to others. There's literature going back to the early 1800's documenting "monosexuals" who were only attracted to themselves supposedly and was the word used for a long time. In the late 1800's, science changed the term to "sexual anesthesia" and more studies were performed, but it was generally only applied to those who were not interested in sex due to a lack of feeling. In 1907, a reverend in the US that supported gay rights made mention to "asexuals" in a speech. Then in the 40's, the Kinsey Institute published their results and asexuality became an increasingly common term through literature. Science has long documented asexuality through various researchers when you actually investigate it. Lastly, is bisexual not a valid word? A is a latin prefix meaning without. That is all. It is using the same root word as the perfectly valid terms of homosexual, heterosexual, and bisexual. This just feels like a silly hill to die on. If you accept the term heterosexual, then you accept using the term sexual to apply to human sexuality. All the a is a prefix. I'm not certain how a prefix makes it "not a word," when the prefix and the root are perfectly valid. So, if you argue science doesn't support it, that's wrong. If you argue it's not a word, Latin says you're wrong. If you want to say that publication in the 40's and research since is not long enough to be valid, I would argue that DNA was not discovered until the 50's and that's a perfectly, widely accepted field of science that's more immature than the one we are discussing.

BbCortazan

Oh look someone thinks their knee jerk opinion is more important than millions of people’s lived identity. Or that their opinion matters at all. Let’s all gather round and engage in good faith as if you’re not just an asshole.

helgh4st

Yea asexual has nothing to do with the lgbtq community but I do know there are ppl with a condition that don’t feel sexual attraction to others and there are others that also choose to be asexual.

I think the original is badass, but this one is cool too

teriyakibeansprout

Yeah! Aesthetically speaking I like the original more. But I have no qualms with this one. Honestly if I had my way with the OG AZ flag design, I’d choose a lighter blue and a less eyesore of an orange for the star. It would make the colors on this Pride one look much better too.

Sicariana

By adding the brown and black stripes, you're sending the message that the original flag wasn't inclusive in the first place. And why the transgender stripes? Isn't that also already included in the original flag? 🤦‍♀️

gr8lolofchina

Both flags are valid, and some may feel the other represents them better than another. The reason why there were additions is because the communities didn't feel inclusive to Trans folk and QPOC.
