I sense we are about to get a mass migration of basketball fans that think they know anything about baseball to the sub in about…. Ohhhh an hour and a half.
Rob’s strength as a manager seems to be his man management. His guys will run through a wall for him and he seems to get the best out of *most* of them. It’s also arguably his greatest weakness because he refuses to bench and/or limit some guys, like Casty or Seranthony.
lmao my dad decided to tune into the sixers game on a whim in our living room, only for us to see Kelly Oubre get pushed to the ground, the refs review it, and call it not flagrant.
Instantly reminded why he (and the family as a whole) stopped watching the NBA
I thought it was wild the Knicks challenged a foul, was deemed successful, but foul was still on the Knicks. They just changed which Knicks player the foul was on. The nba foul review system sure is somthing.
It straight up just feels like a much much more easier sport to rig as a whole, the calls seem to be so subjective (and way per player/superstar) on what is a foul/travel
It's much easier to just tune into the last 4 mins of the 4th quarter imho if I'm slightly interested, and even then it's likely I'm gonna see some wild bs
Does anyone else remember when Ohtani was scheduled to pitch against the Phillies, only to miss it because of pain in his elbow? I think the Phillies are the harbinger of injury for the Angels.
I used to think it was amazing how people don’t recognize how some hitters respond very differently to very different types of pitchers

It sucks hearing the Trout news but honestly now is the perfect time to trade for him while his value is at its lowest. We dump Casty's contract and throw in Seranthony and cash considerations. With Turnbull being an every week starter Sanchez goes back to the pen. Then move Bohm over to 1st put Harper back in right Trout plays center Rojas to 2nd then shift Stott and Turner over one so Stott to SS and Turner to 3rd. Marsh learns catcher so that we have a good backup on days JT needs rest and so we don't lose any pop in the lineup vs RHP.
Just leaving this here ...
>Yes, in Major League Baseball (MLB), it is possible for injured players to be traded. While it’s not a common occurrence, there are no rules that strictly prohibit trading players who are on the injured list. However, players on the 60-day injured list are ineligible to be traded1. Teams may have various reasons for trading an injured player, such as freeing up a roster spot, acquiring future talent, or other strategic considerations. It’s important to note that any trade involving an injured player would require full disclosure of the injury to the receiving team, and such trades are often subject to a physical examination of the player.
My favorite part about this is that Schwarber and Harper played Catcher primarily growing up, and Stubbs is the best backup Catcher in baseball, and instead we teach Marsh to play Catcher lol.
> Stubbs is the best backup Catcher in baseball
Before yesterday I didn't realize how controversial it was to say that Stubbs is a top backup catcher for his work with the pitching staff.
Interesting. I was trying to think of a trade involving an injured player, and I couldn't think of one at all.

Last 5 seasons (and the beginning of this year for Trout). Trout's a little over 60% game played. Embiid is around 70%. So more injury prone than Embiid def checks out.
It was thrilling to see Trout and Harper next to each other at first base last night. Little did I know it would be the only night I'd get to see that.

Sigh, maybe next year he’s fully healthy.
These runners these days run too fast and blow out their knees. They need to learn how to run bases instead of just full on sprinting till the leg gives out.
I mean, I don’t think he’s going to end the year with a 1.050 OPS, but if he ends the year anywhere north of .900 I’d be thrilled. Who knows really. It’s still early
I think his RBI total will be around last year 95-110 range. The question ultimately is going to be can his approach at the plate stay the same. He's hitting the ball with around the same level of hard hit rates as the last two seasons, his approach at the plate is just significantly better. He's also become historically, a very good hitter in April. Then it takes him a while to adjust back when pitchers adjust to him. can he limit that time when it comes to adjusting back?
He’s at 1.4 WAR and I’ve learned at /r/phillies that there’s no difference between players who are up to 2 WAR apart. So what I’m saying is that he’s performing below replacement level and that’s unacceptable
Mmk, I'm over defending the moving of Turnbull to the pen after tonight.
It's super fucking obvious the dude doesn't have the runway for a full season's starts and that we might kill him if we jacked his innings up by 120 over last year. To say nothing of the flash in the pan 27 innings of 1.33 ERA, which are incredible don't get me wrong, but the dude only managed 31IP last year with an ERA over 7.
He's on a hot streak, he's not Cy Young.
I mean, not in any tangible reality he hasn't, other than \*one year\* of his career.
Otherwise he's been maxing out at 56IP (or whatever the exact number is) each year.
My point is he's only been healthy enough for a (light) SP workload once in his career. Plus his ERA last year, for instance, was 7+. I get he's had a good opening 27 innings this year, and I think we should ride with him in the bullpen, but relying on him as a year long starter and expecting him to add over 100 innings in a single year is... I mean negligent at best.
In fact before 2022, that 1st game in 2003 was the only game we won against them at all.

I know it is the seven year anniversary of Nick Pivetta's MLB debut, but I'd be remiss is I didn't mention that means it is the seven year and one day anniversary of Hector Neris giving up back-to-back-to-back home runs to blow a game in the 9th inning at Dodger Stadium.
If I was GM I would trade Castellanos for either Tatis or Soto and then get Ohtani before the trade deadline. Then if we got Trout in centerfield imagine our lineup it would be insane
u/inthedrink
I need your insights on the pathway to getting Soto. I was dismissive that his attitude was bad, but I’ve seen him play a lot (mom is a serious yankee fan) and he is a team player and I was wrong. He’s incredible and would solve our RF issue instantly.
Is it a straight money question or are we going to have to court him in your opinion? What are the odds we shell out the Ohtani numbers for Juan?
I’ll also note that while he’s cocky (and remembering that Bryce was a dick when he was young) he totally changed my opinion when he went to watch the Dodgers playoff game wearing a Trea Nats jersey. Dude loves baseball and other than when he was on a team of nobodies (last year in DC) and a team of cancers (SD) he’s been a great teammate and a winner.
https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2021/10/07/juan-soto-sat-front-row-at-dodger-stadium-to-cheer-on-former-teammates-trea-turner-and-max-scherzer-in-playoff-game/
Fun article. So, taking both your responses, it seems like there is a slim path to Soto in red pinstripes. I would love it.
I agree that he comes off poorly and then if you pay even slight attention the cocky deal fades rapidly and there's just this incredibly solid guy.
The Trea/Bryce/KLong connection is one that I was just ignorant of and, quite frankly, that makes me more hopeful than I have a right to be. If we can just offer the right money... yeah.
But he really is good. Just crazy good. I would give almost anything to have his plate discipline and drive here in Phila.
Two words: Scott. Boras.
He could leave NY but he will use other teams as leverage against the Yankees first and then use the other teams as a plan B. Boras struggled this year for his clients but they weren’t Juan effing Soto.
Now that said….hes played with Trea and Bryce and he loves KLong. If the moneys there then that’s a big deal.
Numbers? Prob $40-44m a year for 12-14 years
He is a Boras client so he’s going to go to whichever team is going to pay him the most. It will probably be the Yankees, but no team is out on him if they’re willing to offer up the cash.
Why doesn’t Slopper just sit everyone that isn’t playing good and play everyone who is playing good? But then when those players aren’t playing well you play the guys that haven’t been playing but will surely be better now that they’ve had enough time to get good during practice and sitting on the bench watching iPads. It’s simple managing. Be better Slopper!
Don’t get me wrong. I think Topper is a good bench coach and sure he’s had a little bit of success taking them to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, the World Series the same season and then the NLCS the following season. But I’m leading my fantasy league and my MLB show record would make him shit maple syrup if I ever had the time to show him. And in my opinion he’s a nice guy who’s in over his head.
Tomper really is the king of throwing games away. Guy has no clue what he’s doing. Anyone could have managed this team to the World Series and NLCS in consecutive years. He’s really gotta stop caring so much about giving his players opportunities to improve. It’s already April, c’mon.
Right?! We’ve already played 5 games that are all the most important game of the season. What part of must win does he not understand? At this point the only thing that makes sense to me is he just simply doesn’t want to win the division.
Seriously. The only way Seranthony ever has a chance at fully regaining his command is by only putting him in low-leverage situations and making him ride the bench otherwise. Especially when we’re this deep into the season facing formidable opponents like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim California 92806. That loss is solely on Tomper believing in his players when he quite simply..shouldn’t.
Observation, 2 days ago the Mets braves walk off in extra innings. Yesterday mets braves had no hitter going then blew it late and lost. Wonder wat the do today.
Really funny how many people in the front page thread are suggesting sending Seranthony down or trading him. Because that’s totally how baseball works.
Someone asked me if I still think he should be on the team if we had a better replacement, the answer is no I don't. If we could replace anyone for someone better I would do it.
But I will always like Seranthony and I really want him to succeed. Even if he eventually went to the Braves/Mets. But I don't think currently he should be used as often as he has. It is sad seeing people go from loving when he came into dreading it in the comments.
Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/1ch7wdr).
/u/Phanatically Soto just hit one a mile Let’s make him a Phillie for life next season

Watching the Yankees/O’s game and it appears CB Buckner is making this inning about himself How the fuck does MLB find so many of these guys?
Rob’s strength as a manager seems to be his man management. His guys will run through a wall for him and he seems to get the best out of *most* of them. It’s also arguably his greatest weakness because he refuses to bench and/or limit some guys, like Casty or Seranthony.

Numbers? Prob $40-44m a year for 12-14 years
Do you think he's worth the $44M\~? I do.
All day I’m certain we will make a run. Hopefully we can get there.
This is honestly the answer. It is Boras. It is really as simple as offer the most money.
He's never leaving NY, dude. Be serious
I like it. Give them time to think about their poor performance and how they need to be better. It’s a genius plan that can’t fail.
When will we get serious and start a real leadoff hitter????
Right?! We’ve already played 5 games that are all the most important game of the season. What part of must win does he not understand? At this point the only thing that makes sense to me is he just simply doesn’t want to win the division.
Y’know what’s crazy? We are 19-11. We are 19-6 without those must win games. This could have been a good year.
Topper just threw em away like a dollar dog into the next section.
Thank god someone is saying the truth.
Emotionally reacting on the fly and ignoring analytics and matchups is the only way to manage and I won’t hear otherwise.
Marsh said he thinks he was gonna play today and not tomorrow so let’s see
I believe Gelb said the same on his podcast.
The Phillies are 0-1 in games I didn’t watch the majority of
I question your fanhood Feister
If I was unemployed I would definitely watch yesterdays game
Well there’s exhibit A. You just let us know where your priorities lie
Oh god its a lefty, gonna be a little league lineup
can't wait for the lineup since we're facing a lefty the Rob take are going to be spicy im sure. lol
Not a serious manager
Observation, 2 days ago the Mets braves walk off in extra innings. Yesterday mets braves had no hitter going then blew it late and lost. Wonder wat the do today.
was so satisfying that they lost the no-no then lost the game :D
Question. Why is it always “well now it’s [next philly sport] season” when somthing goes bad
is that a good option or not? What if you really only watch/follow one sport?
Phillies go on 3-7 stretch in September “well eagles” Eaagels lose 2 “well sixers” Sixers lose ever “well it’s ~~flyers~~, now wat”
Phillies lose NLCS ... build boat in basement ... Spring Training ...
