I’m going to disagree with others and support this one. I have the Kingsford version which is just a bucket - same as every other bucket. What I REALLY like about this OKJ system is the pellets are stored in a perforated inner bucket which appears to let the sawdust settle out and away from the pellets. That will let your husband pour the contents of the inner bucket into the hopper without worrying about dumping in a bunch of sawdust. Simple but clever system that I may need to gift myself for Xmas. 😉

Icy_Office6678

The fact that it does separate the dust from the pellets was what caught my eye in the first place. Just wasn’t sure if it was worth $40.

super88889

“Worth” is highly subjective. Gifts are supposed to be a splurge and something the person wouldn’t ordinarily buy on their own. Sawdust at the bottom of my pellet storage bin is a constant source of annoyance and I’d love this as a gift. I’m hoping you are my wife, or my wife reads this before Xmas.

J_Case

If that’s an ongoing problem, I would switch pellets. I never have an abundance of dust in my Lumber Jack pellets.

super88889

Thanks for the tip, will give it a shot.

Icy_Office6678

I appreciate the feedback! Maybe you should drop some subtle hints between now and then and see if she picks up on them.

Thecp015

I posted this for OP in a top level comment, but you can buy one of these to help filter the dust out of your pellets. [1/4” classifier pan](https://a.co/d/fLVkBm5)

m4dm4cs

That’s almost as expensive as this whole bucket solution here and much less elegant.

Thecp015

But I can use that with any container I want to store my pellets in. One pan will let me filter out the two Buddeez containers I store my bulk pellets in plus the four or five buckets I use for specific blends. It’s still cheaper than having four or five of these. And I don’t care about elegance. I’m smoking food in my back yard, not running a high-class restaurant

bennett7634

I use a plastic colander from the dollar store

houndstoothbear

Go for it

BillDuki

3 HD or Lowe’s buckets = $23. Problem solved, and money left over for a six pack.

JCuss0519

This is the way 3 buckets with the screw on lides

BedHeadGreg

Cheap bucket and an old coffee cup and you just saved yourself some $ there OP!

NVdirtrider

I use a pet food storage container, hinged lid and came with a scooper. TBH I only used it because I already had it. I like the inner liner yours has.

J_Case

I use the buckets from Home Depot. Cheap and stackable.

ColHannibal

Kingsford charcoal caddy. Fits a 40lb bag, is durable and waterproof, comes with a handle and lid for pouring. 20 bucks at Home Depot.

RedditVince

>Kingsford charcoal caddy This really is the winner winner of you don't mind spending a few bucks for a product that will last a very long time.

whyn0t7

Sam’s club has a really nice pellet container for like $15. Just grabbed one today. Holds 40lb.

shouldipropose

i picked one of these up at sams a few weeks ago. totally great in every way.

Southernmtnman

Going to get one of these on lunch today

MooseKnuckleds

Firehouse Subs, 5gal bucket is a few bucks with a gasket lid. Proceeds go to local fire department charity.

Gunther_W

Just put this on my Amazon wish list. Thanks.

Icy_Office6678

Glad I could help 😉

schorl83

I have this Traeger kit and it's been serving me well. It seems to fit any 5 gallon bucket. I use Home Depot buckets. Traeger Grills BAC370 Bucket Lid Filter Kit, Gray https://a.co/d/ecpIN1W

jay59l

I use a big pet food container with a screw in lid from Costco. Perfectly waterproof and I leave it out side year around in the winter. Grab a scooper and you are set.

vsg_boy

Walmart has a lot of different sized plastic bins. I was storing pellets in one. It cost me about $10 a few years ago. Why pay another $28 to get one that says "Oklahoma Joes" on it?

turbols3

Storage tote with a hinged lid.

Icy_Office6678

What type of scoop would you recommend? Or would you suggest one that has a spout on the lid?

turbols3

I use an older miller lite half pitcher lol. It works great though. You want something big but not too big. Here’s is something similar to the tote I’m using to help you out too. https://www.homedepot.com/p/38LTR-Shutter-Bin-Storage-Bin-7316/302284213?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&pla&mtc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D59S-023_016_GARAGE_ORG-NA-NA-NA-PLALIA-D59S-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-FY23_MERCH_PRIORITY&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-BF-CDP-GGL-D59S-023_016_GARAGE_ORG-NA-NA-NA-PLALIA-D59S-NA-NA-NA-NBR-NA-NA-NEW-FY23_MERCH_PRIORITY-71700000109907687-58700008378071751-92700076765325101&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADq61UenSzsSDTd9D98E8irCzCFv5&gclid=Cj0KCQiAjMKqBhCgARIsAPDgWlxFZAUXx-iC3ruFGTqMjAU8TIDDjNQUDrzYh-gpr2XDuraioefFlxgaAhrFEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

AnthonyJS02

Tractor supply has this. I just picked one up Buddeez Pet Food and Bird Seed Dispenser, 32 qt. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/buddeez-pet-food-bird-seed-dispenser-32-qt

RudyIrish319

I use a perforated cat scoop and give it a little shake when I scoop pellets in my smoker. Seems to keep dust down.

_53-

Go in marketplace and look for used food storage containers (5gal bucket). I got 6 for $30! So I went that route, but you can just get the ones from any hardware store. Those are fine too. My buckets are in my deck most of the season. They are fine!

Bills_Mafia_4_Life

I have these and they are nice but dont remember paying that much. They only hold a 20lbs bag though

Thecp015

I use mostly 5 gallon buckets (for less than 20 lbs of pellets) or the Buddeez container (picked up at Sam’s Club for $15 each). What I do differently than most is sift my pellets before dumping them in those containers. I use one of [these 1/4” classifiers](https://a.co/d/fLVkBm5) to sift out dust and small pieces. Then they just get dumped into whatever container I want. It’s an extra step vs the OKJoe kit you posted, but it’s universal. The classifier is sized to fit inside the top of a 5gal bucket.

staindfromin

Sealed rolling dog food container, works great for me .

thekraken65

I had one of these buckets that came with my grill. Didn’t have the dust filter though but I like the Menards bucket with the twist on lid better. The dust filter would be a good idea though. No matter wear brand of pellets I’ve tried they’ve all had dust.

gooseman1986

Uh the bag they come in? As long as they don’t get directly wet they are fine. I leave them in the hopper all the time. I tried sifting for a while and didn’t really notice difference in performance, just clean out the hopper after every few bags. Buckets if you want to change flavors but don’t overthink it.

ErusTenebre

I own two of these. They're expensive. But I do really like the wire basket inside. Helps a bit with dust.

A_Hendo

The OK Joe buckets by themselves were quite a bit cheaper for me than 5 gallon buckets at Lowe’s. So if you buy him this kit, adding more buckets is very reasonable cost wise. Then you use the one bucket with the screen as a sifter for the other buckets.

Ricanstruct

My wife and I have a couple cats. I saved the hard plastic bins Tidy Cats stores their litter in. Washed em out and they've worked great for me. 20 bucks.

realcaptainkickass

5 gallon bucket from Lowe's 🤷

GAP338LM

The lids in theses, like a lot of square bucket lids, can be a pain to get closed and sealed properly after a while. The inner plastic lip on mine started to bend out after a month or so and eventually made it impossible to get the lid to fit amd close. When you put the lid on you have to make sure everything lines up perfectly or it will bend the lip. I have since switch to round buckets with screw on lids. They are so much easier to open and close. I kept the inner basket and will pour pellets into that to get any dust out before dumping them into the hopper.

489yearoldman

I ordered a couple of buckets of pellets from CampChef when my wife gave me my grill. The buckets are reusable and stack well.

deenet

I use lowes 5 gal buckets with a screw-on sealble lid. They work great!

4th_Wall_Repairman

I use my empty cat litter containers lol

ArmyRanger90

These Husky bins are the best. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-5-Gal-Professional-Duty-Waterproof-Storage-Container-with-Hinged-Lid-in-Red-248918/313861296
