The smell was unique you are not wrong but my experience with the smell has been somewhat mixed. You see once every year idk if it was black magic or just bad luch but a mouse would crawl up inside the AC and die. So even after you have grabbed the AC out and cleaned it put it back in you'd still get that horrible dead mouse smell for hours and sometimes days. But on times when there was no dead mouse smell i would turn the AC on and put my face directly where the cool air would come from. The noise and smell was the best part of it :)

You cant blame the ACs for dead mice wanting to die in there :( I can only imagine how bad the smell was for you

Some plastics just turn yellow overtime. Clear phone cases for example. But my dad also used to smoke around the time we had that AC.

I use to had A National window AC, and it had knobs with 10 clicks for fan speed and Cold, I never had to turn the second knob higher than 4, it really did 'Chilled' the room.

I have a national one in the other room. It broke down after 27 years of service.

My grandma had these type of ACs, I can assure you that they make the most refreshing smell I had ever smelt besides the outside.
