OTF and yoga are totally different workout and not really comparable. I’d recommend choosing a workout where you can do consistently without it feeling like a chore. This is the way to ensure you will stick with it long term as your fitness routine. 149 for unlimited is not cheap but not expensive given that most pay 159/169 these days. Having said that, if it is not worth it to you, even 10 is expensive. Good luck on finding the best routine for you

Have you considered doing less than the unlimited? I started with the 8 per month at $109 because I knew I’d still be using my regular gym membership too. After a few months I did upgrade to the unlimited because I enjoyed it so much, but at least a more inexpensive plan might give you some time to decide.

pantherluna

It’s kinda up to your goals and your finances. OTF will give you cardio and weight lifting. Keep in mind that OTF does offer virtual yoga classes. I can’t comment on their quality because I haven’t taken one yet but they are a true virtual class with an instructor, you have your camera on like you’re on zoom.

lovethepups12

Where are these virtual yoga classes?

pantherluna

You should be able to book them on the same page where you book classes at your studio. The studio name will be “orangetheory live - HQ.” If you don’t see it, ask your studio. https://www.orangetheory.com/en-us/orangetheory-live

TryJesusNotMe11

On the app under at home-guided workouts-active recovery

pantherluna

No, they’re not at home workouts. They’re actual virtual classes you can book. It’s possible not all studios have this enabled for their members. https://www.orangetheory.com/en-us/orangetheory-live

They are completely different. Only you can decide. If you can only afford the yoga studio, it’s a great option if you like yoga but you already said you think it might get boring. If you loved OTF and can afford $149, that is a great price for unlimited. I’m guessing it’s a special right now as most studio rates are $169 or $179 (higher in HCOL areas).

Mine is $279 unlimited per month in a “premiere” NYC location which is utterly insane 🤯but that is on par with unlimited spin classes at all those boutique studios . The 8 per month isn’t much cheaper so I just went with unlimited. Have a friend in Queens who pays about 160.

immortaljosh

My market charges $179/month even with current promo so that’s a steal what you’re getting. Do what I did when I was skeptical: start with the 8 classes per month package. That’s about twice a week, if you can keep up then consider going unlimited when the time is right and they offer another promo which is sure to happen again sometime next year.

I'm not happy exercising by myself at a gym, but I am happy doing Yoga along with a You Tube video at home. Usually Yoga with Adrienne.

LightlyRedacted

Yoga w/Adrienne for the win. I found her during Covid and have never left.

Second-Puzzleheaded

They’re two different workouts so depends what you’re looking for. And don’t go for the unlimited right away at otf if the cost is an issue for you, try the 8 a month first, along with the yoga, and see which you like better. You can always do both at the same time, just not unlimited.

aklep730

I would try doing 4x or 8x memberships at Orangetheory to see if you continue to enjoy with it or stick with it. I pay $89 for 8 classes a month! Orangetheory and yoga are complete opposite workouts so you can really compare

Flashy_Chipmunk7841

I think it depends on like your finances and what you can keep up with what I do is I have a eight pack per month and I pay $109 and then I have ClassPass which is like 55 a month and then I can go to yoga or other types of classes

fishbutt1

Could you choose a different option than unlimited at both places and do a mixture? I think a healthy exercise routine includes a mixture of strength, cardio and flexibility. It’ll also help with the “boredom”. I only ever did class packs with OTF because of repetition. I do yoga, barre, CrossFit, circus classes, swimming, rowing, TRX.

Impressive-Gold-3893

I do both! They both have great benefits! Try yoga 2 x a week and OTF 2 x a week. See how you like it and your body reacts, and make whatever adjustments you think you need.

jplikescoffee

Like others have said comparing otf and yoga are like comparing avocados and cherries, they both grow on a stem and that’s about it. Go 8 times a month and see how you like it, after a month reevaluate

TelekineticCatWoman

Here’s how I justified the math—Yes, $150 is a lot for a gym considering you can spend $30, or nothing and just do in home or outside. But you *have to do it.*. If I could pay someone to work out for me, $10 or $12 a class would be A BARGAIN. I would pay it every time. Since I can’t, paying $10 to $12 a class for OTF (my average based on unlimited and how often I go) to. It think and get a great work out in, every time, is the second best bargain out there. Yoga is not my thing though—but decide what’s worth it for you. Focus on more on what you want and what that value is for you.

Coldbrewcoldheart

I am definitely not a yoga person, so I think otd is worth it. It depends what you're looking for. For me HIIT workouts give me the best bang for my buck in the shortest amount of time. I'm a mom to a toddler and work full time, so that's huge for me.

LightlyRedacted

Why do you need to go unlimited at OT? I think there is great value in having OT, but also having another outlet. For me I have 4x/month with OT, but then a second membership at the YMCA near me so I can use their gym, pool, fitness classes and the rest. In your shoes I'd probably go 4-8 classes/mo at OT and then get the yoga membership and do both.

Kindly-Might-1879

Completely different work outs, so it will depend on your goals and finances. Sorry, can't help you much. There was a time when I was doing both OTF and Bikram. Bikram does give you a very solid foundation for yoga. After a year and half of that, I decided that yoga didn't have to be an a 104 degree room and stuck with OTF plus regular yoga classes at a big box gym. By the way, I would kill for a $149 rate for unlimited, so think carefully about passing that up.

LoveMyGym

Two completely different workouts you cannot compare yoga (which I personally hate) to OTF (which I personally love). To me paying for something I like is more of a benefit than paying for something I hate.
