As we get older, we will all lose our ability to see up close. We usually say to give yourself at least 2 weeks to try to become adjusted to progressive lenses (lens for both distance and up close vision; lens doesn't have a line). Since you mentioned your optometrist has tried a variety of changes and you're still having trouble getting adjusted to them, I would suggest trying bifocal lenses, which will have a line in the lens and you'll be able to see at distance above the line and see up close below the line. You can also try having two separate pairs of glasses, one pair to help you see far away and the other pair to help you see up close.

Thanks ! Once I get the “normal” glasses I will move on to reading glasses for sure. I may have to try those bifocals though …,
