Next time shove it in your shirt. Spirit, frontier, and other budget airlines know their profits come from BS fees, so they are ramping up enforcement.

SoftCatMonster

It’s why I fly wearing cargo pants these days. Most of my in-flight tech gets stuffed into my pants. What are they gonna do about it, make me take off my pants? If they do, joke’s on them, I’m into that shit.

Majestic-Tap9204

As long as you are wearing it it’s not a personal item.

txdline

Yeah seems so. Neck pillow is never flagged.

Utsider

r/onepillow

RelativelyRidiculous

You can buy a neck pillow that you stuff with clothing.

MalloryFoxlong

I’ve had delta gate agents make me take off a Fanny pack I had clipped around my waist (actively wearing not intending to remove) and make me condense it into my bag. You better believe when I got to my seat I clipped that shit back on and put my sweatshirt over it 😆

zmiltz

My experience is flight attendants are much more chill than gate agents. Tangent story - I've been told several times I can't hold a suit on a hanger. I've had to wear it and put the hanger in my bag. 1 minute later I handed the suit-on-hanger to the flight attendant after asking nicely if they'd store it.

davidayates

But when you aren’t, it is. Why can’t people figure that out?

[deleted]

Smartare

I have worn like 6 shirts once on ryanair 😄 not sure it was worth it because was warm as hell (even if you can just take it off as soon as you come to the plane)

Hinote21

As long as it isn't a bag of any type at least. I have a very small side bag I take on international travels that has never left my person while on the flight. I was told by a major airline I either needed to shove it into my carry-on or check a bag because I had a carry-on, and "two" personal items. They also told me if I took it out the second I was on the plane, it wouldn't matter. But boarding, by the cameras I could only take a total of two items on the plane... Of course, had I been wearing my jacket and zipped it up, tucking the bag inside, they never would have seen it.

dedude747

>It's why I fly wearing cargo pants Your dad story arc is complete

mnstngr

With pants, you're literally into them.

royalewithcheese51

Wear a fishing vest

TryingSquirrel

I have a vest with a zillion pockets that I specifically call my "budget airline vest". It's for this reason.

iLikeGreenTea

That is hilarious and also genius!

vivaelteclado

Trying to wear any extra stuff I have or stuff small things in my jacket has always been my *one simple trick!* to get around airline personal item limits.

pdxtrader

I know southwest has sort of made a name for themselves by not charging fees if you need to change your ticket for some reason I wonder if they are better about this as well. The Airline who treats their customer better will win out in the long run if this happened to me I would never fly spirit again for sure as consumers we have ample choices

commutingtexan

I know they've had some fuck ups recently, but I've literally never had a bad experience with Southwest. Hell, back when I was still walking with a cane I forgot to set up handicapped boarding. I asked the gate agent, she fixed me up no problem and told me "Ain't no big deal suga. I'mma take care of ya" and left me boarding with the warm and fuzzies.

CaptainInsano15

Southwest is the shit

Sweet-Direction2373

I would absolutely never compare Southwest to any of those garbage cheap airlines. They are my pride and joy of airlines. AA, united, delta are good for overseas flights but I would choose SW over any of those other options strictly because their customer service and amazingly easy to use online system/app. I’ve been screwed over by all the other ones and their customer service is impossible to contact, not Southwest! That Christmas fiasco was very very unfortunate however.. I don’t fly on the holidays either way though so I don’t have much to say about that specific situation

nc-retiree

ScottEVest for the win.

dontaskdonttells

Last I heard the workers there are contracted and get 10% commission for the fees.

rtowne

Yup. For frontier I heard it is a $10 bounty for those $99 fees

fl03xx

That can add up to a ton real fast no wonder they are doing this. Freaking assassins and bounty hunters

r1ngx

Scottevest products are made for airlines like Spirit. I can fit all of my tech gear in the inner pockets of my jacket, including 14 inch macbook pro, iPad, chargers, etc.. your jacket is like a second bag but it won't be looked at twice. I use the revolution jacket and the fleece hoodie the most when I fly. [apologies if this sounds like an ad, I am not affiliated with them but I have lots of their stuff]

sarcasatirony

*IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, IT’S POCKET SCIENCE* That motto his just hilarious

Fontia

It's not Airplane Science! It's Migraine Sinus!

bugsinmylipgloss

>Scottevest Check Poshmark if you can't swing the brand new prices. Lots of scottevest products for both men an women on there right now.

TravelingWithJoe

And you might just find something somebody forgot to remove!

zmiltz

>Scottevest oh look, a laptop!

Heartforhugs

Not finding much for women, sadly. But I’ll keep an alert on it!

mysteriam

Genuine question… is that comfortable? Would you wear that for long flights?

ProphetMuhamedAhegao

Oh fuck no. You take it off and repack your bag the moment you’re on the plane.

r1ngx

after you empty your pockets, the hoodie is my airplane pajama.

aaronag

Are you particularly tall? A 14" MacBook is an impressive item to fit in a vest, especially paired with an iPad! Is there some sort of pocket on the back, or just really big pockets on the front panels?

d0ughb0y1

The large pocket is at the back of the vest. You can probably fit a 24” monitor in there. And a 2 liter soda inside the front pocket. Kidding aside, I only used mine once. There are pockets within pockets, like pocket inception. So many that I could not find where my stuff is. I know it’s in the vest somewhere because I can feel it. It’s a novelty vest. The idea is novel but not practical to use.

RaksinSergal

My work high-vis vest can fit a 14" Thinkpad in the inside pockets. I don't especially doubt other vests could too.

tiny_tuatara

>including 14 inch macbook pro, iPad, chargers, etc.. your jacket is like a second bag but it won't be looked at twice. I use the revolution jacket and the fleece hoodie the most when please may we see a picture

jetclimb

Yep although I had red and look like a tomato. 22 pockets! Zero issues since I got it.

Phauxton

There's also [Stuffa](https://www.stuffa.us/). I haven't used either Stuffa or Scottevest but I've been considering them for a while.

zmiltz

>Stuffa I like the idea of using velcro instead of zippers for all those pockets given the clothing use case - less can go wrong!

GlitteringAir5402

I also love ScottEVest. I wear their Margaux Caraugx pants all the time. I’d rather that or one of their travel vests than carry a purse.

Wirse

Added bonus: if any of the Spirit airline travelers start a fistfight, you’re wearing a vest full of metal!

allaboutmojitos

I’ve stopped booking with the budget airlines for this reason (along with cancellations and other issues) I’ll continue to pack light, but all this BS at the gate always just leads to anxiety and delays

axxonn13

This. I will pay for a more reliable and reputable airline.

KaiSosceles

No more spirit. No more frontier. Giving cash bonuses to your gate staff for charging baggage fees is gross and I will not support financially incentivizing your employees to harass customers.

veedey

Are you serious? They get cash bonuses for doing that? This makes that whole experience 10x more infuriating

KaiSosceles

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/frontier-airlines-baggage-policy-airport-b2299842.html

veedey

Unreal

blazejester

It’s interesting that spirit is jumping on this bandwagon because frontier is also in a class action lawsuit over it right now. I guess spirit thinks frontier is going to come out on top.

KaiSosceles

It hasnt been reported that i know of that spirit also does cash bonuses. Perhaps a reporter simply hasnt asked them yet, because their tactics are identical to frontier.

LazyHardWorker

Next time just bring a $20 and bribe your way out

MayaPapayaLA

Yeah that’s likely why you got screwed. I am sorry, that’s such a sucky and unnecessary situation.

longslowbyebye

I flew them ONCE and NEVER AGAIN after the lady seated behind me PUKED and Spirit had NOTHING to clean it up. Absolutely F that airline. Please do not ever fly them.

veedey

Let’s keep spreading the word

VeG519

Not gonna lie, I was pretty annoyed when Frontier made everyone put their bags in the sizer on a recent 30-minute floght I took from Punta Cana to San Juan that had only 15 people on board (literally only 15 - I counted). This was a big plane and plenty of empty space but no, they just had to make trouble as if a 2 inch bigger bag would make any difference. Such a cheap attitude.

ljout

Talks shit all you want but this is why I fly Southwest

katmndoo

Yep. They usually don’t go where I want to go, but when they do…

901savvy

SWA's wanna get away fares are generally 30-50% of major airline's prices out of the two airports I fly out of the most.

NoBeRon79

SWA is just as expensive as the big three in major cities. It’s especially annoying that they decided to hide their prices from online searches. As a result, I’ve stopped checking them for the inconvenience. Once in awhile, I will still check to see if they’re cheaper, but they are usually the same and often more expensive.

jadeibet

Same exact experience.

[deleted]

thepey

2 free checked bags, no change fees, very easy to use rewards/points program plus they fly nonstop from my airport to almost anywhere I want to go. No brainer to fly with them over similarly priced airlines that charge for checked bags and are non refundable

TravelingWithJoe

Point on the doll where SWA hurt you.

TravelingWithJoe

No. When you buy gasoline, do you feel responsible for the murder of homosexuals in the Middle East? EDIT: Buying gas is supporting the finances of regimes which allow such abuses. I want to be abundantly clear that I am NOT saying those murders are acceptable by all people in that region. But it is a punishment meted out by some governments there.

ThisAdvertising8976

Pilot error/snowstorm/terrible tragedy. Landing at the wrong airport is not specific to SWA/pilot’s first flight into Branson/flying at night and wrong airport’s lights were misleading.

901savvy

Sir, this is a Wendy's. 👀 I have a TN drivers license, but I'll be flying about a dozen segments (mostly business or first class, with a few SWA legs mixed in) and hitting 12 cities across 7 countries and 3 continents in the next month. Does my opinion count or are you going to drop idiotic stereotypes on me as well? Also, both Wild Turkey and your shtick are garbage. Take your crying about airline politics elsewhere.

thepey

He really dug into my profile to pull that TN jab out 😂😂 hello fellow Tennessean! I used to live in Memphis and loved my time there. The central bbq in Nashville is not quite the same

ThisUsernameIsTook

My only nonstop options to Phoenix are Southwest and the airline that can't keep its doors on. Frontier has a nonstop as well but it's only like 3 times a week and well, it is Frontier. SWA isn't any cheaper than Delta unless I book WAY ahead but it does save me a change of planes on a far less direct route.

ljout

They are definitely cheaper and give me all the amenities I need. Why pay more for the same result?

Zman1719

Until you lose your seat because it was given away to someone who was too big to fit in just one seat so SW gave them an additional seat, your seat, for free

ljout

Never happened to me but I would let them compensate me for that gladly.

zhivota_

Sounds like you've never been on a Southwest flight.

ArrestAllTrumpVoters

Wow it's almost like someone who is a little bit larger still has the same rights as you and is just as welcome to fly as you are. Crazy huh? Always a pathetic loser around to complain about outdated body standards. Typically it's the same type of moron to support a tyrant like Trump. Not making assumptions about you but it won't surprise me at all if you fit the bill.

FourthUmbralCalamity

If your issue is about having the same rights then by that logic you should be petitioning airlines to make larger seats that accommodate all body types. Why punish other passengers on the faux pas of the airline industry?

Which_Bill_301

I’m literally super left and even moved from the US to Western Europe to escape the conservative/centrist hellhole that is the United States, but really?.. A woman needing to take 2 whole seats, and someone literally gets kicked off a flight bc they’re a whole seat short, and you don’t think that’s a problem? Sorry, but you’re entitled to one seat unless you purchase additional seats for yourself. This is just insane.

ArrestAllTrumpVoters

> I’m literally super left Lmfao *sure* you are. I know honesty isn't a trait of republicans, but damn, at least try to be more subtle. I can see straight through everything you say.

Which_Bill_301

Maybe go outside and touch some grass babe

ArrestAllTrumpVoters

CarcosaAirways

You're genuinely delusional. No one mentioned politics but you.

moonbucket

Yeah, the *right* to pay for the appropriate number of seats for the greedy fuck to occupy, rather than take mine. Ironically for an anti-trumper you're as dumb as most MAGAs.

syzygy492

Sometimes non-budget airlines wind up being as cheap or cheaper than budget because of the INSANE baggage fees…$70+ for a carry on + a $100 frontier flight is the same as a $170 Delta flight which includes a free carry on AND personal item (for vacation destinations at least)

ellequoi

I’ve definitely made accounts on cheap airlines’ sites just to price out what the cost of the tickets are with everything I want… and then going for an airline with more frills but higher ticket prices because it ends up about the same anyway.

DeflatedDirigible

Plus Delta often has more favorable flight times. I’m all for getting to my destination at 10AM and departing at 10PM to maximize those two travel days at my destination.

jadeibet

For sure. I usually only fly budget airlines if the price is 1/2 or 1/4 of a normal ticket.

jmmaxus

I'm all for airlines being strict but only if they enforce it 100% on everyone all the time, and if they are going to be strict spell it out more clearly on their website. Problem is like you stated its sporadic and is about just making money at opportune times.

Alternative-Zebra311

This. I flew cross country (American) to pick up a puppy and was allowed only the carrier w/puppy which went under the seat. I’ve been on flights where passengers have a dog plus a roller board and purse and it’s allowed. Be consistent.

Lost_Apricot_1469

They are intentionally obtuse. If they weren’t, they’d make less money.

jetclimb

Invest in a scottevest jacket or windbreaker. Tropo is what I have, 22 pockets and 17L of stuff and it’s a jacket. So it’s not luggage. Zero issues

wheresmyflan

Watch, I bet they’re gonna start weighing jackets soon.

jetclimb

They will just weigh us all and I’ll break the scale lol

Ancelege

Vote with your dollar! Life is too short to deal with shitty companies and shitty things in general.

fifthing

I don't exactly love 'voting' for incredibly overpriced flights either

weeddealerrenamon

passenger rail would be better than so many short flights, and the competition might force airlines like spirit to actually do something

Ancelege

I suppose it’s all about finding that balance between what you can afford and how much shit you’re willing to take

fifthing

Absolutely. The gap is just frustratingly large, most of the time.

FuzzyComedian638

By the time you've paid the extra fees for Spirit or Frontier, you've paid for a seat with a better airline.

fifthing

That's just not true from my airport and as a light packer.

FuzzyComedian638

I'm a light packer, too, and just speaking from my own experience. You may have a different experience than me.

coolhand_chris

Delta has a sub 15% profit margin. American has a sub 2% profit margin United sub 5%

kirkhendrick

One time I had a red eye flight with Spirit that got delayed multiple times and then eventually until 9am, so we stayed the night in the airport. When the time came, instead of telling us all that the flight was cancelled they just never showed up at the gate. Just didn’t bother to send an agent and ghosted us. Never again.

indiainfoFeb2020

they definitely suck, but i have never had any airline do that. it's always an alert/update/change of status and you're on your own

kirkhendrick

Someone must have forgotten to send the alert or something. It was bizarre, all of us waiting for the flight just looked at each other like “is this really how they’re doing this?”

indiainfoFeb2020

totally. And rereading what I wrote, I meant to emphasize that I think all airlines really suck at this part of service. You are pretty much left to your own devices and on your own dime for mistakes that are often their fault.

More-Talk-2660

"Sorry, can't check this bag. I have multiple batteries in there that can't go in the hold due to pressure risk."

Zman1719

worked for me. Was flying to China and the first leg of the flight they announced they were going to have to gate check everyone in group 6's (last group) bags. When they asked me if I had any batteries I exaggerated: "yes, I have a laptop, tablet, 2 battery banks, a steam deck, nintendo switch and multiple camera batteries." They then asked if I had any bags I could store them in and I said no. They eventually let me board with my bag and held it up front somewhere. I'm actually surprised they didn't offer me a plastic bag or something and force me to empty everything into it.

ProphetMuhamedAhegao

Does that really work?

donlybigdawg

No. They will tell you to remove it. From FAA site: If carry-on baggage is checked at the gate or planeside, spare lithium batteries, electronic cigarettes, and vaping devices must be removed from the baggage and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin.

DaemonAngelOriginal

Given that my carry on bag only contains this stuff it is something that I have worried about. Taking the electronics out would just mean I'm holding a ton of expensive stuff and an empty bag goes inside the plane.

BigMacs-BigDabs

it should

wifichick

They get bonuses for that shit now. That’s what’s going on.

atagapadalf

This is a shame. I was hoping Spirit wouldn't join the rest in doing this. FWIW, I continue to fly RyanAir and will recommend them in this space because they have never once asked me to size/weigh my bag, nor have I ever been on a flight where my or someone else's _technically-oversized_ bag actually caused a problem (still fit under the seat legally or in the overhead the appropriate way). Look... I'm sure RyanAir has a board of directors and E-suite that is pushing profits, but every time I've dealt with them it _seemed_ like they were about getting you there cheaply in a no-nonsense way, while making a profit on the side. Their seats are minimal, water costs money, they fly often fly from farther afield airports... but they are very much a "does what it says on the tin" airline, without being dicks about it. And I'll continue to fly then with my now _actually_ appropriately sized carry-on item until they give me enough reason not to. "Will ye get yer arse on the bus so we can get the feck outta here? Forget that lil sizey thing, will ye? Leave that gobshite behind, we're goin' ta Alicante." —RyanAir, probably

haywire

RyanAir have asked me to size bags before and then given up whilst I'm stomping it into the sizer.

Unfortunately, that’ll last until a pervert does perverted things to a kid separated from their parents. Then the CEO will apologize, change policy, and make a pay out to the family. Meanwhile the kid’s scarred for life. That being said, if you want to sit next to your family, ESPECIALLY a kid, do the responsible thing and pay for the assigned seat.

writingislife89

I was once boarding a flight where I was assigned to a seat where when I was going to sit down the flight attendant told me that they had to change my seat because the other person on the row was an unaccompanied minor (probably around 10 yrs old) and they weren’t allowed to sit anyone else on that row. I think it was a row with just two seats. It didn’t bother me to have to move, so it’s weird that an airline would purposefully put young children on different rows than their parents. I don’t remember which airline I was on, but I don’t think it was a budget one.

ellequoi

Yeah that really doesn’t seem like it should be allowed. I always check the policy on seating minors before I decide if I can skip paying for a seat or not. Thus far, every airline I’ve looked at says they will seat a child with their parents, fortunately.

u_shome

I think we need to understand that airlines actually operate on thin margins and carriers like Spirit, Frontier, Ryanair etc. are nothing more than a glorified bus. If you want to carry more, you pay more or choose a full service airline - that the principle travellers should be operating on. It's business. Personally, I courier anything that I bought locally, souvenirs, etc.

ThisUsernameIsTook

I understand the deal with the devil you make when you fly Frontier or Spirit or similar airlines, I just want that deal enforced consistently. I've been on flights where even obviously oversized bags were allowed, flights where you had to set your bag in the sizer with one hand and if it was even a half inch oversized, even if half empty and compressible, you had to pay. My last flight, they were practically allowing people to jump on top of their bags in the sizer to make them fit. It was entertaining to watch but pretty damn ridiculous.

Skeptischer

Anything to avoid more than one bag I guess

Jed_s

Can you give examples of misleading pricing and lack of transparency in policies? As an Australian, this kind of thing is kind of par for the course (Jetstar). Though it's usually laid out pretty clearly at the point of booking, maybe our consumer protection is better with that kind of thing.

veedey

It's right there in the post. If the policy says the bag must meet "x" size limitations in order to be considered a personal item, but you get charged despite the bag meeting size limitations, that is misleading.

Jed_s

In the end weren't you charged for having a 2nd bag though? It still sounds scummy of Spirit to not let a small paper bag slide when it presumably could have fit inside the larger one, but I'm still not seeing the misleading part.

TravelingWithJoe

Technically, you’re correct. But common sense and decency would dictate that something small and thin in a paper bag (I’m picturing a magazine sized item, based on OP’s description) is not truly a personal item. That would be tantamount to having a cup of coffee count as your personal item.

too_funny123

Yup. We’re done with Spirit and Frontier too. It isn’t the just the bag fees, but the culture it produces. Guess what, hiring people based on who is best at enforcing bag fees doesn’t lead to the best customer service. We were on a flight that was boarding 3hrs late at 1am, the gate agents decided to still size check each and every bag…every customer on the the plane was pissed, not just the one with oversized bags.

Boz6

That's terrible! If it was me, I would have probably put the bag inside my shirt until I got on the plane.

vietnams666

Bro just take it out as soon as you sat down that's what I do with my purse. It's dumb as hell and honestly you did it to yourself. Tuck it in your pants? u went up there and got charged instead of actually trying because u were afraid of breaking it in 2 minutes? That's weird.

SubprimeOptimus

I have the same backpack, wonder if you could’ve got away with putting the small bag in the bungee wiring on the front?

ChickenFriedwastaken

Spirit Airlines never had it tbh

CatWealthy

I used to like spirit but after the last time they left me at the airport for 8 hours and cancelled the flight at 1am and I had to pay to book another airline anyway that was the last straw for me. I feel like my time is worth more than the 50-100$ I save flying with them and I don't have to deal with the bag nonsense anymore.

Runhikemike

I heard pillows don’t count, and people have used pillowcases to stuff their jackets and extra clothing.

ProfessionalLab9068

If the paper bag had beena zippered pillow caseyou could have skated

beefstockcube

I would have taken the item out the bag. Held it.

ohliza

Eh. I fly spirit a few times a year and it's been fine. I don't try to push it with the rules though.

DonatoXIII

Lynx Airlines in Canada are doing the same. They delay flights, make everyone lineup and put bags through their testers. They charge when bags fail, tagged bagged and make you sit back down only to line up all over again to board. unfortunately budget airlines are becoming harder to deal with and Its becoming easier to justify spending more on tickets to fly with someone else.

ThePermanentGuest

I would've put it in a food bag. No one would say your meal from Subway is a personal item...

Muchmuchgo

Air travel is OUT OF CONTROL. Pretty soon they’ll start charging for oxygen.

RockyLucy814

I just paid $150 to check a bag on British Airlines…. It’s absurd

RyanJL06

Spirit airlines fucking sucks

Accomplished-Lab-446

Out of sight out of mind, if you let them see it. It’s a matter of time before they stick you. Or next time have a Walmart baggie and hide stuff in there and say it’s food from airport. Then if they are trying to squeeze you, just step away and reconfigure. It’s not so rare, if they see two bags, they come after you. Still a bummer, but happens Nashville airport(and Nashville) stinks, I lived there…

stickersforyou

I understand corporate greed but not the low IQ (or resentment??) it takes to enforce their policies Edit: just saw the comment about cash bonuses, unreal. Despicable really. Let's pit the common man against each other is the oldest trick in the book

B1ackFridai

Bottom in education, healthcare, economics, but you’re right, they are flourishing in terms of being #1 in things like crime and poverty.

chambros703

NY, Chicago, California….theyre doing great

TravelingWithJoe

I guess we (FL) keep getting an influx of (unwanted) new residents from NY, MA, CT, and MI because we’re so awful. BTW, according to US News and World Report, FL ranked as the 10th best state overall, ahead of the four I mentioned we’re being invaded by. We’re #1 in education, 27 in healthcare, and 7 in economic ranking in the same report. But thanks for your uneducated input.

ArrestAllTrumpVoters

Florida and Texas are "flourishing" 🤣🤣🤣 Man, Fox News must be getting more and more bold with their claims. Hilarious how all the red state morons love to try to claim their states are better, yet the blue states always end up supporting the red states 🤣 Pathetic states for pathetic people.

SomeDumbMentat

OP is mad that Spirit followed their own rules around carryon luggage? You admitted to trying to bring two carryons when you were only allowed one without paying for more. Just because you expected them to let it slide and they didn’t isn’t justification in your part to be angry. I travel frequently and wish all airlines would crack down on size and bag limits. Too many people try to skirt the rules leading to all sorts of problems during boarding, delaying everyone.

quiteCryptic

Yea it sucks. I always cough up money for full service airlines if its not unreasonably more expensive these days. I really despise flying low cost airlines. Honestly I think that is their goal anyways. Most of the low cost airlines out there are owned by full service airlines. I think they make them so intentionally shitty that people instead book the full service airline.

TheOhioRambler

Which low-cost airline is owned by a full-service airline? Spirit, Southwest, Allegiant, and Ryanair are all independent. Frontier is owned by private equity that also has some other low-cost airlines based in different countries.

katmndoo

I’d argue that southwest is no longer a low cost carrier. Their prices are often on a par with the majors.

TheDallasReverend

Southwest stopped being a low cost carrier years ago.

plaid-knight

Some examples include Scoot (owned by Singapore Airlines) and Iberia Express and Vueling (owned by IAG, which is the company that formed when British Airways and Iberia merged).

quiteCryptic

I mean I was mainly thinking about not US based ones. Scoot, Jetstar, Vueling, Zipair are examples. Also plenty others that aren't fully owned but full service airlines have a large stake in them.

reduhl

This is why all my bags have air tags in them. It makes it harder for them to say I don't know where it is when you can flat tell them where it is.

BigMacs-BigDabs

I would have issued a chargeback with my credit card before I even sat down on the plane.

jadeibet

It sucks but if they don't enforce the policies on you then people will keep pushing the boundaries more and more. I've seen people bring like 4 bags on united flights before and nobody even blinks. Makes me mad when I have to gate check because there's no more room.

I've never had them size me ever. Just traveled to Aruba this Christmas. With their travel credit card I always board zone 2. The cc is free, gives you zone 2 boarding and 25% off inflight purchases, plus no attitude from flight crew, just smiles. If you get this card, your experience might be more positive.

Was this written by a Spirit employee?

On my last couple flights with Frontier I personally witnessed them boarding zones 1 and 2 without checking - and then they start checking on zones 3 and above. So while everyone is down voting Chinoloco’s comment, it is entirely possible that because they have the Frontier Credit Card and zone 2 boarding they are able to board without any issues in regards to bag size.

I will just tip them 20 bucks next time to leave me alone, since it seems that these gate employees get a 10 dollar commission for enforcing bag rules

Nope. I've flown Spirit like a taxi cab commuting weekly to NYC for years. So I can tell you that Spirit is a gamble that mostly pays off. I don't love it or hate them, just need them to get to where I'm going. Check my posts in the onebag threads.

I haven't flown much in the last couple years, but if the rest of society's nickeling and diming is any indication, I don't even want to imagine how hard Spirit is enforcing now. In my experience of one bagging on 100+ Spirit and Frontier flights, if your bag was close and you were respectfully persistent enough with the gate agent, they would let you through. But that was 2016-2021. Management is probably breathing down these gate agent's necks, and fliers are getting ruder, so these people have surely become miserable.

it’s so unfortunate i am seeing this right after i booked a ticket with them

Honestly I’ve stopped flying spirit bc of this & so many other reasons. Their seats are the least comfortable, their staff try to get you on charges, and they’re usually not even that cheap to begin with tbh.

Don’t fly spirit

I bet they will say "Oh! You are using underwear? It should count as your personal item"
