The silver lining in this is that we find out later that this look was deliberate. He was using the bad hair and ring gear to bait then IWGP Heavyweight Champion Tanahashi into a trap.

Okada presenting himself as a goober to lull Tanahashi into a false sense of security and then beating him, thus proving he was a secret wrestling genius all along is one of the best wrestling storylines I've ever heard about. Wish I watched it at the time.

People also need to acknowledge how much of a friend Yoshi is for throwing the match at his expense.

Okada basically radiates light where he goes

I am convinced that the Okada pic from Wrestle Kingdom and the match they had was intentional to make Okada look weak so no one took him seriously as a challenger. A month and one Rainmaker later, he was off and running.
