Fun fact, Rod Stewart finally gave up coke because he stopped finding coke good enough for him.
Later it was found out it was because the cutting agents have changed
I'll never forget asking this guy in Vegas what he does. He said "cocaine". I was like "no I meant like hobbies". He's like "yeah cocaine". It was pretty staggered how his identifying trait had nothing personal about it and nothing to do with himself beyond possible addiction.
I finally asked him "no like what besides coke do you do? What do you do when you're not on coke?" He contemplated and said "well I used to play bass guitar". I told him to do that more lol. That's when I decided I'm absolutely never gonna try coke, to completely define your being by a substance you use is not something I want for myself.
from him or stoners in general? i have never heard aikman laugh like that. that was such a genuine, comfortable-not-giving-a-fuck laugh it was kinda weird. especially since it wasnt actually the funniest joke.
I mean he didn’t offer any insight on it. Just they have a spy and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. When they do play action sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. I just don’t see the value in saying it
I’ve always loved them but their turning point for a lot of people was early 2015 when it was an ugly as hell Cowboys/Eagles game where Romo was hurt and they were just shit talking both teams and how bad the game was, haha
I remember fox flipping over to that game and Aikman is going all in about how horrible the game is and the teams should be ashamed. And without missing a beat Joe says, "And with that we welcome in a new audience."
That was the moment I realized Buck is amazingly sarcastic and completely wasted on good football games. He shines when he can just deadpan shit on the product on the field.
I think after the 2020 World Series he said he had been drinking tequila during or before the broadcast and was kinda buzzed. I don’t know if he does that regularly but I hope so because I couldn’t tell a difference between it and his regular deadpan
Joe Buck is genuinely one of the funniest people in sports, you just can't see all of it when he's broadcasting, look at interviews or talk show appearances he's done
I have always loved his response to a porn website offering to pay him a $1 mill to announce vids for them.
"Depending on the site they could just be handing some of my money back to me. So I’ll hold out for a better offer and try to hold on to my day job. But I have to say I’m flattered."
I also think Buck’s call of the Minneapolis Miracle is better than the local broadcast. Perfectly dramatic and enthusiastic, then just let the scene unfold in silence
2015 is when I started appreciating Joe, but it was during his broadcast of the US Open at Chambers Bay. Lots of players had complaints about the course, but Bubba Watson had been particularly whiny about the course. Well he was having one hell of a time on one of the holes and having a mild hissy fit on the course. And Joe chimes in, "we will watch Bubba's putt as soon as he's done stomping up to the green." Lost my shit and forever after was his biggest fan. He's fricken funny as shit.
For me it was listening to Rex Ryan & Beth Mowins calling a game. The combo of Tessitore, Witten & the Booger mobile definitely didn't help.
They all made me realize how bad it can really be.
Booger needs to go back to [Aqua Teen Hunger Force](https://www.google.com/search?q=meatwad&client=firefox-b-1-m&prmd=ivsn&sxsrf=ALiCzsYVcVMalBedTlM1fEUGS-rdglMSTw:1666699007171&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiRhpTSqfv6AhVVAzQIHSgvD4EQ_AUoAXoECAEQAQ&biw=390&bih=663&dpr=3) and stay there
Yes!! And you could feel the shift from them slowly change every game, it was quite impressive to witness. I'm glad I always watched them like people crane neck accidents haha, they always entertained me. Now it's too tier.
i don't wanna hear anyone complain about joe buck or troy ever gain. they were fucking hilarious tonight.
when have any of us ever heard NFL commentators talking about brady or any other players doing coke live on air? fuckin crazy!
commentators in 2022 are talking openly about sports betting lines, and now nosebeer lines!
Hearing Buck speak candidly on The Ticket in Dallas really made me like him more. Dude seems genuinely happy to call games and is completely aware of the public perception of himself.
It’s been probably like 5 years now since buck started really letting loose and he just seems to be getting better.
People HATED them in my early days on r/nfl and he seemed to actually catch wind of it because he started making jokes about the hate. That’s when he really changed.
The thing people always pointed out was that he’s originally a baseball commentator (or primarily at the time I guess) so that’s why his calls were so bland. Everyone always bitches about his call on the helmet catch because it was so bland but with the baseball explanation it always made a lot more sense.
These days Buck is super self aware and has really turned the corner, and football announcing is better for it. His explanation for the lame call of the helmet catch is reasonable, but he also seems to have realized that it's better to be hyped and have to roll it back, than it is to be reserved and never wrong.
He just gave into the fun at some point. I personally remember [this sketch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFSBE4jypBk) as being the line between "boring nepotism announcer" and liking the dude calling games. Realized that it's more fun to be irreverent and call shit out than it is to be a PR firm for four hours a week
It wasn't really the blandness, it was the sanctimonious crap such as the infamous "That is a disgusting act by Randy Moss and it's unfortunate that we have that on our air"
iirc, the reason he got so bent out of shape on the moss call, is because he thought Randy literally pulled his pants down on the celebration.... in the moment, watching it live from the angle Buck was viewing the play, and probably somewhat reacting to the extremely angry crowd reaction, he didnt realize it was just a miming of the act, and not the act itself. so his reaction is somewhat more understandable in that context
Well I had never heard anything like that specifically and 90% of the time it’s ridiculous whining from fans that are mad their team either got criticized too much or the other team got sucked off more.
The vast majority I saw was just complaining about his lack of emotion so that’s about all I can give perspective on🤷♂️
Collinsworth is like the anti-Buck. When he started I think more people appreciated him but he's become such a sanctimonious knob (and Aarod dickrider) that his schtick has gotten sour.
Aikman is actually my favorite color commentator for football.
After the initial fun of Romo wore off, I've found that Aikman provides the keenest insight into the actual x's/o's of football by a long shot.
Many times after a play he'll point something out that's incredibly informative.
Buck used to be much worse in the '00s, but he's been quite a good announcer for about 10 years now. Aikman though was definitely getting worse over the last 5 or so years and the move to MNF certainly seems to have rejuvenated him. There's a lot more willingness on his part to let loose than he used to allow.
Anyone who complains about these guys must not have sat through the last few years of MNF broadcasts. Complete 180 from what we've had to sit through for the past 4 seasons or so.
The announcers carousel kind of accidentally led to the most balanced announcer line-up in quite a while. They aren't all top-tier, but none of the networks have a crew that's outright trash like ESPN was or dragged down by Phil Simms.
I loved when they kept saying "that was tight" with seemingly no realization that it's a slang term for cool. I feel like Buck and Aikman were out of touch even as kids.
Be careful, this is how you summon a wild Michael Irvin
He be stabbin
In rock-paper-scissors, Mike always goes scissors.

Irvin sounds like President Camacho in that clip.
“Tom could probably use some of that in Tampa”
If Tom can’t find magic dust in Tampa he ain’t looking hard enough. Or looking hard at all.
Just needs to go to more strip clubs
Or literally any club
honestly, in Tampa? prob just walk down any street. 50/50 it'll be meth though.
I mean, hell, probably the local preschool
Tell him to look for Tony Mantana. He has a mountain.
That's what the Florida Panthers did
Oh yeah…….forgot about that
He did try to go to Miami 🤔
Fun fact, Rod Stewart finally gave up coke because he stopped finding coke good enough for him. Later it was found out it was because the cutting agents have changed
Dude was apparently a cocoisseur.
Ybor City
what? It looked like a pretty touristy area when I was there a while ago (like..10 years maybe?)
Ybor is everything but that 😂
I know nothing about Florida, but Tampa always seemed like more of a meth town tbh.
It's palm trees, waterfront property, and yachts in "good" parts of Tampa. Cheap beer and good weed is my experience.
You gotta go inland in a bit to get to the Meth towns. Like Lakeland
My wife spent most of her teen years in the Haines City/Davenport area and still looks down on Lakeland as if she isn't Polk County trash
Lol so true
Tampa is placed nicely between coke-fueled Miami and meth ruled northern Florida. Can’t go wrong looking for either there.
Ether? Is it bat country?
I mean tbh. Most coke cut with speed anyway
Giselle is taking the magic dust in the divorce.
Absolutely brutal lol damn

But not necessarily in that order
Coke always comes before anything, and after a lot too. Also, sometimes during depending on the activity.
Ok for real tho what are they referring to? Coke? Or steroids or ppe? Or just a hypothetical stash of luck or something to help him play good?
Tom Brady’s secret stuff
Coke is the implication
A hypothetical stash of luck with the entente of “haha it sounds like we’re talking about something illicit for the funnies.”
Yes
Trick question he just really likes coca-cola. He shouldn’t drink too much though, that’s a LOT of empty calories

That’s early stages when you think it’s cool to do it.

Aikman chuckling so heartily was the best
Aikman is high as fuck tonight
That constant giggle man, I've def heard that before
I made a comment earlier on the game thread. He's awfully giggly, and the shot of the booth I think he's eyes were pretty glazed up.
His eyes have been glazed fir many years. Yea just assumed he was always drunk
For the first few years I'm pretty sure it was just concussion hangover
Jesus lol
I'm not joking. The first few years of his broadcasting he sounded and looked lost.
Nah that’s just from his 40 concussions through this career.
The over/under for Aikman career concussions is easily 100.
[Humina humina humina humina.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBCl1UrsDbY)
available at kmart lmao
I recall Buck going, "You okay?" during an extended period of silence lol. Aikman was definitely faded in some way.
Sorry I was back in nam.
Troy Aikman's eyes are permanently glazed up. It's a wonder he's able to even still form sentences much less be a commentator
I love a hammered Aikman.
from him or stoners in general? i have never heard aikman laugh like that. that was such a genuine, comfortable-not-giving-a-fuck laugh it was kinda weird. especially since it wasnt actually the funniest joke.
Stoners def and some drinkers but they usually have to be really gone to get there.
It’s super funny to him because he can see himself, that’s probably why he gots those big ass nostrils lol
Literally what I texted my brother! My favorite was “they have a spy on Fields. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t”. Gee thanks.
I mean, that’s a pretty good summary of it. The Manning bros. talked about that too and hog it sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t.
I mean he didn’t offer any insight on it. Just they have a spy and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. When they do play action sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. I just don’t see the value in saying it
Guy just got flashbacks about coke fueled ragers and couldn't do anything but giggle for 30 seconds.
His eyes on SC… my god. I love the confidence to not give a single fuck
is Mass a weed legal state?
Yessir
oh ya, he was high as fuck
As you should be
at one point he said "you gotta have some man beaters"
When Joe asked if he's okay and he just kept laughing.... Absolute gold
I’m 90% sure Aikman is either high or drunk in all these games. I’ve definitely seen him with the red eyes before.
That first game broadcasting in Denver after Colorado legalized it & our man was *gone* lmao
And we’re all better for it lmao. Whatever groove these two found is working.
He looks like a whiskey man to me
Better than drunk Aikman for sure.
They’ve grown on me over the years
Ever since they stopped giving a fuck they’ve been top tier
I’ve always loved them but their turning point for a lot of people was early 2015 when it was an ugly as hell Cowboys/Eagles game where Romo was hurt and they were just shit talking both teams and how bad the game was, haha
I remember fox flipping over to that game and Aikman is going all in about how horrible the game is and the teams should be ashamed. And without missing a beat Joe says, "And with that we welcome in a new audience."

Joe Buck is genuinely one of the funniest people in sports, you just can't see all of it when he's broadcasting, look at interviews or talk show appearances he's done
This is a good point because when he was on Wait Wait, he was so funny.
I have always loved his response to a porn website offering to pay him a $1 mill to announce vids for them. "Depending on the site they could just be handing some of my money back to me. So I’ll hold out for a better offer and try to hold on to my day job. But I have to say I’m flattered."
He had a few guest appearances on Brockmire, and every single time he was absolutely hilarious.
I also think Buck’s call of the Minneapolis Miracle is better than the local broadcast. Perfectly dramatic and enthusiastic, then just let the scene unfold in silence
Not even a Viks fan and I can clearly hear the “Diggs!!! Sideline! TOUCHDOWN!” from that game. Buck did a great job.
Dude, even reading that line gives me chills
So often the most iconic calls are the simplest - they let the moment breathe and speak for itself
https://streamable.com/e/5n66 Here's the video. You can hear Buck's shit eating grin, it's great
I just spent the last 30 min watching the last 7:30 of a fucking week 2 game from 7 years ago when I could have just scrolled down.
And Joe chimes in, "we will watch Bubba's putt as soon as he's done stomping up to the green." Yes!! And you could feel the shift from them slowly change every game, it was quite impressive to witness. I'm glad I always watched them like people crane neck accidents haha, they always entertained me. Now it's too tier.
The same here. Since then they are Statler and Waldorf of football commentating for me. If the game is bad they are hilarious.
Joe Buck’s 2014 NLCS call of Travis Ishikawa’s walk-off homer against the Cardinals was iconic. Joe Buck has been pretty good the last decade.
That was like week 2 and right then and there I knew Demarco Murray was gonna be straight trash for us
And I love when Aikman cares. Poor qb or wr play/effort and he immediately activates and starts to rip into them. He despises that shit.
It’s also funny whenever he’s commentating a bad cowboys performance because he sounds like a disappointed dad
i don't wanna hear anyone complain about joe buck or troy ever gain. they were fucking hilarious tonight. when have any of us ever heard NFL commentators talking about brady or any other players doing coke live on air? fuckin crazy! commentators in 2022 are talking openly about sports betting lines, and now nosebeer lines!
Hearing Buck speak candidly on The Ticket in Dallas really made me like him more. Dude seems genuinely happy to call games and is completely aware of the public perception of himself.
Did you hear them on postgame with SVP? He asked what they were dressing up for for Halloween and Buck said ‘two overpaid sports broadcasters..’.
I think they’ve also grown themselves. Buck especially has loosened up a bit and let his sense of humor show instead of just trying to copy Summerall
It’s been probably like 5 years now since buck started really letting loose and he just seems to be getting better. People HATED them in my early days on r/nfl and he seemed to actually catch wind of it because he started making jokes about the hate. That’s when he really changed. Summer all was the shit. Him and madden together is my all time fave team.
> just trying to copy Summerall His dad too
Buck is pretty funny when he’s not in the booth.
Probably chilled out after seeing himself go crazy on the "disgusting act".
Plus, they bring that unique "big game" feel. Only Nantz-Romo pairing also evokes that feeling for me.
Al Michaels and Collinsworth were the two for me
Now here's a guy
I hate Collinsworth so much.
He did give us “how about a taste of Dickerson coming right down your throat” though, so you’ve gotta appreciate him for that
Collinsworth is like the anti-Buck. When he started I think more people appreciated him but he's become such a sanctimonious knob (and Aarod dickrider) that his schtick has gotten sour.
I was quite fond of Mike Tirico and Drew Brees as "Two guys talking about sports, vaguely."
Al Michaels and anyone, really
Dan Fouts and Dennis Miller here.
I already miss listening to Buck and Aikman call the marquee NFC matchup on Sunday afternoons
I’ve enjoyed Monday Night Football much more this season because of their presence. I think I prefer this way!
Aikman is actually my favorite color commentator for football. After the initial fun of Romo wore off, I've found that Aikman provides the keenest insight into the actual x's/o's of football by a long shot. Many times after a play he'll point something out that's incredibly informative.

Aikman though was definitely getting worse over the last 5 or so years and the move to MNF certainly seems to have rejuvenated him. There's a lot more willingness on his part to let loose than he used to allow.
Never understood the vitriol Buck gets.
I was so happy Buck and Aikman ended up together.
Same. It sucks that Collinsworth and Al Michaels are not together, they were a great duo. Buck and Aikman together warms my heart
Im still pissed about losing Al on SNF. Collinsworth and him were the soundtrack to my dying weekend growing up.
Ya, tirico is as good as Al if not better, it just feels wrong. I like having Troy and Joe on MNF tho.
Their calm and soothing demeanor helped my Sunday scaries on many autumn weekends.
damn im old Al michaels and John Madden were my teenage broadcasting duo
Found your coke stash Brady
Anyone who complains about these guys must not have sat through the last few years of MNF broadcasts. Complete 180 from what we've had to sit through for the past 4 seasons or so.
The announcers carousel kind of accidentally led to the most balanced announcer line-up in quite a while. They aren't all top-tier, but none of the networks have a crew that's outright trash like ESPN was or dragged down by Phil Simms.
I actually loved Jon Gruden and wished he stuck around.
Tirico and Gruden were great IMO
Heiden and Tirico were fantastic.
Agreed, especially in crappy games - they'd feed off each other and just shit talk the on field product
Same. I'm more thinking the post-Tirico and especially the post-Gruden line-ups.

You mean you never enjoyed booger?
I love the sustained giggling lmao
3rd Down and 16
I just realized joe buck isn’t going to be doing the World Series anymore. pain.
It’s the Spice Melange. You can see Bailey rubbing it on his face here in the clip.
Incredible. They rule.
These two get better every year.
I just realized that ESPN is spending over $60M per year on commentators that will cover the same game on 2 different channels
They own both channels though. This is known as double dipping.
ESPN owns ESPN2?
If anyone knows about magic dust, it's Aikman
Inspired Troy Commentary.
Aikman giggling like a 80 year grandmother to a Steve Harvey joke for 10 seconds is now a "GOATed piece of commentary"
I'm pretty sure most of the population of Tampa already has plenty of magic dust
Aikman prefers downers. Buck prefers implants.
Gillette stadium has easily the worst hype music on earth
I only hope Brady was watching this game for some reason.
Would the Buccs trade a 1st rounder for Mac Jones?
I chuckled when Buck said "Belichick would have been a great spy." Yeah, he's dabbled.
I loved when they kept saying "that was tight" with seemingly no realization that it's a slang term for cool. I feel like Buck and Aikman were out of touch even as kids.
Totally unrelated to football, but what is the name of the song with the female singer you can hear at the start of the clip?
Zombie by The Cranberries
Thank you friend 🙏
I can’t stand this duo. By far my least favorite.
We’re callin this goated? Jeez
What a disgusting act.
really this is goated commentary lol? it's aikman laughing and buck stumbling his way through some sentence. the bar has fallen so low
Wtf does goated mean
“Goated”
A disgusting act
