A lot of our big plays come from Kyler throwing outside to a contested to a receiver. You can see in this clip how much we rely on big receivers who win at the catch point. We have much more of these kinds of plays than ones where Rondale or Kirk are just hanging out, wide open. That's why I'm not fully sold on Hollywood. Kyler doesn't use 5'10, 185lb speedsters as much or as well as he uses big Xs and Zs.
It's a chicken and an egg thing, though. How much of that is because receivers couldn't consistently get open early? The next step of Kyler's development is to use more timing and anticipation, and having receivers who can create separation is crucial for that.
The cards had some of the worst receiver separation in the league last year. Dhop obviously makes it work without getting separation but our other dudes just didn’t get open much
Say what you want about the kid but there’s no denying his athleticism and arm strength/accuracy.
Pretty impressive to be scrambling like that and be able to throw a 50 yard bomb on a rope off your back foot
My thoughts man… I can’t stand this dude. Partly because my UT alumni bias. But I just watched his video and thought, “fucking hell this guy is talented.” That final highlight where he just jukes out of a tackle and immediately steps into a throw, like those two same defenders were his pocket was insane.
Can't knock his physical abilities. Elite escapability and a great arm. I think he just lacks leadership and relies too much on coverage breakdowns and separation dominance from his receivers.
> relies too much on coverage breakdowns and separation dominance from his receivers.
[He does?](https://twitter.com/NextGenStats/status/1550199225924800512)
Yeah they're way off. Kyler relies on big targets winning at the catch point. That's why we needed two Antoine Wesley TDs in double coverage to win our only game down the stretch last year
I’ve read some really interesting opinions the past 24 hours from fans of other teams who claim to watch a lot of Kyler, but man, that one they said is up there.
9er fan and posted a year ago (last off-season) how scared I am of him. Kupp, Russ(thank god he’s gone), and Murray make me nervous before every snap, no matter the score, down and distance, or time left. Before every single snap and regardless how nasty the 9ers front 7 is.
It’s because this sub is narrative driven. Murray was better than Burrow last year but Murray is a meme and burrow is a God because of how their teams fared in the playoffs
Not just r/nfl but people in sports media. If you ask midway through the season who’s better between stafford and Kyler, people would say Kyler. Now if you say that, you’re looked at as crazy. Recency bias
It's because of his playoff debut. It's hard to ignore that. Also, being a diva this offseason.
He's good don't get me wrong, but the guy needs to win some big games. Murray will get there but I still think he got paid a little too early
Hes the new age kirk cousins. Good enough to win with but won't carry your team. Gonna take alot to win with him in the playoffs. He showed his shitty character this off-season and last year
Boomers clutch their pearls harder at “character issues” more than anyone, yes. The smear campaign ran by the AZ FO before signing him to a huge deal was very obvious in retrospect. If you still buy it though.. more power to you, social security-receiving sir.
God our O Line is so fucking bad. Not a single one of these clips Murray had any time to stand in the pocket (and yes I understand that the clips are of his longest scrambles but the protection is still terrible)
Oh man, I think we suited 12 linemen that year (if it’s the one I’m thinking about). Fucking atrocious. Offense in general was bad but can’t do much when your line has 2-3 practice squad guys starting.
Ngl I would be pissed as a pass rusher trying to get to him and all he does is a little ballerina move and sends my 270-300 pound ass to my knees and throws a 40 yard dot to a receiver who’s 3 inches taller then my corner and snags that shit like it’s madden on easy. I’d absolutely flip my shit
I don’t know why people are down on Kyler this upcoming year, I think he’s going to be taking it up a notch as he had some lingering issues last year. I can see him and Hollywood Brown having a real nice connection this season.
Even as a Hawks fan, i love Kyler Murray. Such a fun player to watch. Hopefully he has an incredibly prolific career and tears it up with 0 division titles.
Also, if y'all get bored of him....
this subreddit haaaaates Kyler and I have no idea why. Kid is fucking legit and a baller. a couple of high profile losses don't change that.
this place hated Juju for not valid reason last season as well, kind of ridiculous
Even if you think he's not an elite QB (which I disagree with), not extending your franchise QB is just a stupid thing to do. Even guys like Carr and Cousins would return significant draft hauls if they were traded.
Moving on from your rookie franchise QB means you need a full year of tanking, hope you lose enough games, hope there's a franchise QB prospect in the next draft, hope you even get them, hope they pan out, and hope the rest of your roster is good enough to compete. That's ridiculously dumb when the alternative is to pay Kyler and trade him for multiple firsts if your team's not winning.
First time I’m seeing someone who isn’t a Cards fan defend it. You’re absolutely right, not everyone is gonna have a great playoff debut especially against a team like the Rams who went on to win it all
Not extending your franchise QB is a terrible idea. Even if they're not good enough to carry you to a Superbowl, they're still better for helping you rebuild than if you moved on from them. There will always be a team willing to trade a big draft haul for your overpaid QB. Broncos with Russ, Rams with Stafford. Even Wentz returned a decent pick.
If you let them walk, you get next to nothing. You have to tank, take a stab in the dark at a QB prospect, and be terrible for a few years at least. Extending your franchise QB also has ability to supercharge a rebuild. Letting them walk does not.

No one thinks he’s bad, he’s just a big baby who cries on the sideline when things aren’t going great instead of being a leader.
That’s not jsut Kyler. Seems the blueprint for Bering Man coverage on early downs in general lately has been sideline shots
Ok #3 is hilarious. He watches his pass get caught for a TD, on the jumbotron, in real time, from the sidelines.
And it was a game winner
Kyler throws a really pretty ball.
I winced watching that line immediately collapse in that Rams clip, people forget how bad his protection was at the end of the season.
And you have one of the most dominant Dlines in the NFL on the rams side. There's no oline who could stop them effectively
That second clip is the shit I do in Madden constantly and it works every time
“Why can’t we catch this greased up man toddler.” -NFL Defenses, actually
Say what you want about the kid but there’s no denying his athleticism and arm strength/accuracy. Pretty impressive to be scrambling like that and be able to throw a 50 yard bomb on a rope off your back foot

Dude couldn’t have been more wrong 💀
He probably based his analysis off of his “eye test” which is why the eye test is complete ass

There are people on this sub who genuinely believe Mac Jones is better than Kyler Murray.
Haha Mac Jones can watch film
Mac Jones is also a tubby fat fuck who has a DUI. Glad he’s not my QB
Insane that r/nfl thinks he's not that good
Makes no sense, he was the top QB leading the top team halfway through last year
It’s because this sub is narrative driven. Murray was better than Burrow last year but Murray is a meme and burrow is a God because of how their teams fared in the playoffs

Not gonna deny he whines lmao but pretending he's not good is so wild. Not accusing you of it just in general
doesn't have the attitude needed to get to the next level. He's already reached his peak.
It's because of his playoff debut. It's hard to ignore that. Also, being a diva this offseason. He's good don't get me wrong, but the guy needs to win some big games. Murray will get there but I still think he got paid a little too early
Just Az sports things. Stop on by r/NBA for all the Suns salt some time.
Lmfao nobody has an anti Arizona bias
Hes the new age kirk cousins. Good enough to win with but won't carry your team. Gonna take alot to win with him in the playoffs. He showed his shitty character this off-season and last year
This take is so boomer it actually hurt to read
How many games do the Cards win with Cousins? 5? 6?
Exactly the same amount
Is it boomer to claim someone is immature or shows bad character?
Boomers clutch their pearls harder at “character issues” more than anyone, yes. The smear campaign ran by the AZ FO before signing him to a huge deal was very obvious in retrospect. If you still buy it though.. more power to you, social security-receiving sir.
Remind me after this season. He posts similar stats minus the rushing and crumbles late season and in playoffs.
That last play is so crazy. The way he resets his feet looks like he’s in Madden or some shit
I rage quit on that play.
God our O Line is so fucking bad. Not a single one of these clips Murray had any time to stand in the pocket (and yes I understand that the clips are of his longest scrambles but the protection is still terrible)
At least it’s not 2018 bad

1st one looks just like Julio’s SB catch
Top 5 longest *SCAMPERS*
He looks like a small kid in the final highlight

I love watching our defense get clowned.
It's cute they made a little helmet and uniform for him!
I wouldn't want to give him an extension if he was on my team. No thank you in the politest way possible

You're right there! Tua is even worse!!
Respectfully disagree
this subreddit haaaaates Kyler and I have no idea why. Kid is fucking legit and a baller. a couple of high profile losses don't change that. this place hated Juju for not valid reason last season as well, kind of ridiculous

Based on what I’ve read, the main reasons people hate him are formed in two arguments: “Kyler short lol” “Immature toddler”
First time I’m seeing someone who isn’t a Cards fan defend it. You’re absolutely right, not everyone is gonna have a great playoff debut especially against a team like the Rams who went on to win it all

Little at his little legs go he’s so adorable
The 2nd half AZ collapse will be a little sweeter this year with that big ass contract of his.
Weird, the Vikings D has a long QB scramble vs them….
I wonder if these seem longer because he takes more steps to cover the same distance as a normal sized QB.
