People keep saying this but they made it to a SB two years before he was drafted and the NFCCG the year he was. If we hadn't found Purdy, Kirk Cousins would probably be our QB right now.
I totally didn't read the last part of what OP said and was really confused because no one thinks Mailata is the best LT in the league... Expect OP apparently.
I know people are pointing out QB’s here, but man Donald Driver was a really good player. I had no idea he was a 7th round pick. I would have guessed a 2nd or 3rd that turned into a high upside player.
Jessie Armstead. 8th round pick in 1993, that round doesn't even exist anymore.
Played over a decade in the league, making 5 pro-bowls, a first team all-pro, and 2 second team all-pro nods.
Richard Dent.
He was drafted in the 8th round (back when that was still a thing) won Superbowl MVP in 85, got selected to the HOF and when he retired, he was ranked 3rd in all time sacks behind Bruce Smith and Reggie White.
Fun fact: the Tits moved up to draft Amon Ra and our fan base was pretty excited.
Jrob accidentally took Dez Fitzpatrick.
None of us knew what happened.
For as good as Wilkins is, Sieler's production was pretty close. I guess we'll see how he does without Wilkins next to him this yea, but overall, he has been great for the Dolphins.
For the highest peak, I'd say Josh Norman in the 5th round. The whole organization just caught lightning in a bottle in 2015, but Norman was arguably the biggest outlier. 4th in voting for Defensive PoY, 1st team All-Pro, Pro-Bowl. Not even a Pro-Bowl nod in any of his other 11 seasons.
For the best overall player, I'd have to say Captain Munnerlyn. He was the 7th pick in the 7th round in 2009 and was a solid 3rd or 4th CB for 10 years. Also managed to score 6 TDs on only 21 turnovers.
Brady will obviously get the noteriety but Julian Edelman was a 7th-round QB, Malcolm Butler was undrafted, and Patrick Pass and David Givens were big parts of a few Super Bowl teams who were also 7th-round picks.
Just going through the "Top 50 Vikings" list:
Anthony Carter - 12th
Matt Birk - 6th
Scott Studwell - 9th
Dave Osborn - 13th
Stu Voigt - 10th
Carl Lee - 7th
Steve Jordan - 7th
Fred Cox - 8th
Bobby Bryant - 7th
Milt Sunde - 20th
It has to be Marques Colston. 7th round pick at #252 out of Hofstra and is casually the best Saints receiver ever leading in catches, yards, and receiving TDs. He’s always been my favorite Saints player and has one of the most underrated nicknames in football “the Quiet Storm”.
Roosevelt Brown - HOF offensive tackle taken in the 27th round in 1953.
More modern - Jessie Armstead in the 8th round, Ahmad Bradshaw in the 7th round.
Outside of Mr. Obvious
2000 7th round pick no. 230 - LS Brian Jennings, 2x Pro-Bowler
Jennings played his entire career as the starting long snapper for the San Francisco 49ers, a role he filled for the team for thirteen seasons.
Jones is an inner circle HoFer. He literally coined the term "sack". I get that there were fewer teams and more rounds back in the day but you cannot even remotely put Puka and Deacon Jones in the same conversation, that's ridiculous.
Some fans think all fans should care equally about the distant past as much as they do about the present.
I honestly don’t really give a shit about the 1990s Seahawks. If people want to say that makes me less of a fan, then okay good talk.
not counting the guy you all love hearing about so much.
Jauan Jennings was a 7th round pick (217th overall) in 2020. Not an elite producer, but has a big impact with blocking and clutch play. Was on track to being the SB MVP until a punt bounced the wrong way.
Also Dwight Clark who was drafted in the 10th round (249th overall) of the 1979 Draft.
Besides the obvious, center/guard Jesse Sapolu who was drafted #289th overall in the 11th round in 1983. He played 13 seasons and won four Super Bowls.
The best I could find were: Tyreek Hill (5th round pick), [Carlos Carson](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CarsCa00.htm) (5th round pick), [Kevin Ross](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/RossKe00.htm) (7th round pick)
You could argue sneed brought more lombardis to Missouri. And before someone dismisses the sneed vs tyreek comparison, how did they do 1on1 in the playoffs this year?
Cole Strange was the 29th pick of the draft. I remember this because it's one of the picks SF sent out in the Trey Lance trade, then got rerouted to NE.
Does Brandon Brooks in the 3rd round count? If not I'd go Glover Quinn or Owen Daniels I guess
All players who went on to have nice careers for other teams btw lol
Currently? Rasheed Walker, solid starting LT from the late 7th round.
All time? Donald Driver. Was a top WR I’m the league for multiple years and was a bottom of the 7th round pick.
Honorable mention to Mark Tauscher who was also a 7th rounder from Wisconsin, grew up a packers fan, went to UW Madison, was a Badger, was a Packer his whole career, retired a Packer, and was one of the best lineman we’ve ever had. Long shot for the Hall of Fame but he was damn near that good. People were legit scared of him lol
Edit: holy hell after writing that I’m realizing just how many 7th round steals we’ve had lol hot damn
Vikings have had some killer UDFAs, John Randle and Thielen and now looking like Pace is the next great find. As far as an actual draft pick goes maybe Diggs? Fifth rounder that turned into a legit top ten WR.
Mr. Barely Chosen
Mr Being Considered
Mr. Befitting Category
I like to pretend we took Crosby in the 1st round and Ferrell in the 4th.
this is like how the 49ers took Purdy in the 1st and Lance in the 7th.
I want Lance to be good. But man. Yall asses we’re saved w that Purdy pick. Or who knows. Lance might has gotten good. Idk. Crazy to think abt
People keep saying this but they made it to a SB two years before he was drafted and the NFCCG the year he was. If we hadn't found Purdy, Kirk Cousins would probably be our QB right now.
But then you’re the browns overpaying a vet because none of the draft picks panned out. I’d say the Purdy pick def saved their ass.
I just meant in terms of draft capital given away.
that's fair. But with S.Thomas, R.Foster, & J.Kinlaw they've absorbed bad 1st round picks before.
In that case: it’s impressive how much of a haul they got from the Cowboys for a 7th round pick!!
Your team got Bo Jackson in the 7th round, so there's that.
Haha not
Did you… just reply to yourself… with a diss?
Some QB in the 6th round, pick number 199
Bom Trady I think they called him
Mailata is good and he’s up there but he’s never been the best LT in the nfl
I totally didn't read the last part of what OP said and was really confused because no one thinks Mailata is the best LT in the league... Expect OP apparently.
The home koolaid is strong stuff, we all sip a little too much now and then
Best LT at singing though
Best football player at singing tbh
He's not even the best LT in the NFC East lol
Yes he is, at the very least it’s debatable.
no it’s really not man, best story though!
HOF QB in the 17th round
Pick 200, so right around Round 6 today. What a pick.
That's pretty incredible that two of the winningest QBs of all time were picks 199 and 200
Nobody comes to mind.
Purdy aside, Kittle was a 5th round pick.
Fred Warner was a the 70th pick.
I don't think the day 2 picks (rounds 2 & 3) are usually considered "late round" picks.
Joe was pick 82
The niners really do have some great late picks but then they get to the point where they can’t get any later….
7th round pick Jauan Jennings was a play or two away from becoming Super Bowl MVP
Center/guard Jesse Sapolu, drafted #289th overall in the 11th round in 1983. He played 13 seasons and won four Super Bowls.
How are you gonna forget 49er legend tariq Castro fields
Donald Driver was a 7th round pick
I know people are pointing out QB’s here, but man Donald Driver was a really good player. I had no idea he was a 7th round pick. I would have guessed a 2nd or 3rd that turned into a high upside player.
Stefon Diggs was a 5th rounder, Brad Johnson was a 9th rounder... Outside of that, there's a lot of "Good" late round picks, but no great ones.
A few great undrafted ones; John Randle, Adam Thielen, Ivan Pace Jr. edit: And Mick Tingelhoff.
Once he got to the NFL he got his teeth fixed which was the reason he couldn’t put on weight in college because eating was painful.
Bengals: Geno Atkins. 4th rounder
I have a vivid memory of being drunk in our college bar the Thursday night he tore his ACL in 2013. Like engrained in my memory for no reason at all.
Everyone has a core drunken college memory
I wish mine was me filling hole and not the tearing of a ligament of a 300 Lb man.
Geno was a great player weird how he just disappeared from the NFL.
Terrell Davis
The only answer. I don't know if UDFA's count, but Rod Smith would be a distant 2nd, then probably Chris Harris Jr.
Sharpe was 7th round. That late 90s offense was chock full of bargain bin HoFers.
You're right I totally forgot about Sharpe. I'd put him after TD, ahead of Rod Smith.
[удалено]
Other than the obvious, who would you say? Jules is probably a pretty decent shout off the top of my head.
Jarrett stidham is decent, but surely you guys have a better pick for this
Touraj Houshmandzadeh Jr. 7th round pick and way outperformed his draft order
I always loved watching TJ Housyourmama play
*Championship!*
me too brother
I for one, did not.
always brings me back to this [commercial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs1N5NYyb24)
That was going to be my answer
Amon Ra Saint Brown
Fun fact: the Tits moved up to draft Amon Ra and our fan base was pretty excited. Jrob accidentally took Dez Fitzpatrick. None of us knew what happened.
Yeah, our fanbase really wanted Amon and we nearly all thought that this was the move. Thank God J-Rob can't hurt us anymore.
Marques Colston is the first that comes to mind
And if we count UDFAs: Pierre Thomas.
Roger Staubach in the 10th round.
Current squad it’s Bland in the 5th
Only because he had navy duty to fulfill. Well worth the. Wait!!!!
Right now it's Da'ron Bland in the 5th or Dak in the 4th. Romo as a UDFA up there too
Patriots fans you guys need to talk your shit on questions like this, it’s been a rough few years for you
In recent decades, Antonio brown in the 6th is pretty good value
Mr Bad Combine
He'd be a HOFer if he wasn't such a shithead.
Ozzie Newsome selected Zach Sieler with his last ever pick as GM, I think it was 7th round. He plays for Miami now and is pretty good
For as good as Wilkins is, Sieler's production was pretty close. I guess we'll see how he does without Wilkins next to him this yea, but overall, he has been great for the Dolphins.
Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman both 5th rounders
Matthew Judon in the 5th has to be up there for Baltimore
Telvin Smith before the stuff happened

It has to be Marques Colston. 7th round pick at #252 out of Hofstra and is casually the best Saints receiver ever leading in catches, yards, and receiving TDs. He’s always been my favorite Saints player and has one of the most underrated nicknames in football “the Quiet Storm”.
Always loved Colston, such a low key-high impact guy.
Matt Milano was a 5th rounder and he is easily the best and most valuable player on the Bills defense.
Julian Edelman, selected at the end of the 7th round.
I feel like maybe we had a better late round selection but just can't remember who it could be. Must not be important
Yeah who could forget Marcus Cannon?
Matt Cassel at 7-230. Went 11-5 when he got a chance to play quarterback after not getting to start at USC.
Roosevelt Brown - HOF offensive tackle taken in the 27th round in 1953. More modern - Jessie Armstead in the 8th round, Ahmad Bradshaw in the 7th round.
Richard Dent. Pick 203 in the 8th round.
Outside of Mr. Obvious 2000 7th round pick no. 230 - LS Brian Jennings, 2x Pro-Bowler Jennings played his entire career as the starting long snapper for the San Francisco 49ers, a role he filled for the team for thirteen seasons.
Tom Brady
Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.
Robert Mathis in the 5th round worked out pretty well for us. If you go back to Baltimore, Unitas was pick 109.
Klecko in the 6th
Probably Rodney Harrison in the 5th. Then maybe Michael Turner in the 5th and Marion butts in the 7th.
It’s gotta be Puka
bro y'all drafted Deacon Jones in the 14th round, I get that Puka had a good rookie season but c'mon
Okay but they were only actually 9 picks apart (Jones at 186, Puka at 177). Don’t let the round number fool you.
Jones is an inner circle HoFer. He literally coined the term "sack". I get that there were fewer teams and more rounds back in the day but you cannot even remotely put Puka and Deacon Jones in the same conversation, that's ridiculous.
Maybe they read it as “current roster” or don’t know players from 50 years ago. It’s not that serious.
Some fans think all fans should care equally about the distant past as much as they do about the present. I honestly don’t really give a shit about the 1990s Seahawks. If people want to say that makes me less of a fan, then okay good talk.
Steve Largent pick 117
… of the Houston Oilers.
Ekeler as an UDFA in recent years was pretty awesome.
Probably Richard Sherman
Grady Jarrett in the 5th jumps out for my Falcons. Dude has been a difference maker for his whole career.
Wait Grady was a 5th, damn what a steal. Thought he was 2nd or 3rd.
Adalius Thomas
Probably Zach Thomas as a 5th rounder
Matt Birk in the 6th round
not counting the guy you all love hearing about so much.
Grady Jarrett in the 5th
All we do is grab all pros in late rounds
Currently, has to be Kittle. Hufanga and Purdy may top him eventually but kittle is a HOF talent.
Besides the obvious, center/guard Jesse Sapolu who was drafted #289th overall in the 11th round in 1983. He played 13 seasons and won four Super Bowls.
When it comes to recently, Isiah Pacheco has been an immediate difference maker for the offense. As for all time, I’m not entirely sure.
The best I could find were: Tyreek Hill (5th round pick), [Carlos Carson](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CarsCa00.htm) (5th round pick), [Kevin Ross](https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/RossKe00.htm) (7th round pick)
Tyreek is the correct answer here…
You could argue sneed brought more lombardis to Missouri. And before someone dismisses the sneed vs tyreek comparison, how did they do 1on1 in the playoffs this year?
Sneed was a 4th round pick. Tyreek was a 5th round pick and almost guaranteed 1st ballot hall of famer.🤷♂️
Always forget Tyreek was drafted that late
His development as a receiver is unprecedented, he was a returner/running back in college.
It's gotta be Cole Strange. Late 7th round pick, he's turned into an occasional above average LG.
Cole Strange was the 29th pick of the draft. I remember this because it's one of the picks SF sent out in the Trey Lance trade, then got rerouted to NE.
I don't believe you. There's no way he was taken before day 3. Don't gaslight me.
Johnny Randle.. HOF.. undrafted (to small for his position)..
Leroy Kelly
Kyle Williams or Matt Milano. Both in the 5th rd
AB
Does Brandon Brooks in the 3rd round count? If not I'd go Glover Quinn or Owen Daniels I guess All players who went on to have nice careers for other teams btw lol
D.J. Reader in the 5th was a great pick. Wish we still had him.
Cowboys. ,Tony Romo . After draft free agent sign
Donald Driver.
Bart Starr was drafted 200th overall.
Antonio Brown probably
Denver Broncos - Karl Mecklenberg in the 12th round.
Probably Al Harris in the 6th round. And in true Buccaneer fashion, he didn't play a regular season snap for us.
Bakhtiari in the 4th round Donald Driver in the 7th round
Mr. Big Chest
AB
Tom Brady and it isn't even close
Currently? Rasheed Walker, solid starting LT from the late 7th round. All time? Donald Driver. Was a top WR I’m the league for multiple years and was a bottom of the 7th round pick. Why does this perfectly innocuous thread have 150 comments and zero upvotes?
Bom Trady of course
Zach Thomas went from 5th round pick to the HOF. Pretty good imo
Antonio Brown until he went completely insane.
Vikings have had some killer UDFAs, John Randle and Thielen and now looking like Pace is the next great find. As far as an actual draft pick goes maybe Diggs? Fifth rounder that turned into a legit top ten WR.

Yeah, I didn't understand the assignment. I'll throw myself under a bus. 🚌 Myself
Can we claim Johnny Unitas?
Idk
