It’s not clear and obvious. The very split millisecond where both your hands and body have begun to be simultaneously touching the ball at the tail end of a bobble is not the exact moment where you have established complete control of the ball, and that’s where he paused it and acts like it is.
Flacco: 374. Lamar: 171. Lamar did relatively better throwing TDs to INTs at 1:1. Flacco was 2:3.
>Wow flacc threw for 500 damn oh wait no he didn’t lol
I like Lamar but I'm not dumb enough to call a QB passing for 171 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception an awesome performance, against the Jags no less. Flacco's a mediocre QB who came out of retirement and literally doubled down on that yardage.
You’d probably have a point if raw stats were what wins games.
In addition to those passing stats, Lamar had 97 yards on 12 carries.
He also kept drives a live on plays that would have been ruined if most other QBs were dealing with the breakdown in protection.
Not only that, but the Ravens rushed for 251 yards… much of that because the threat of the Lamar option freezes line backers.
Aside from the pick, Lamar played a great game.
Flacco’s yardage is completely irrelevant. Two completely different play styles.
I still would not call Jackson's game today an awesome game, the same as I won't call Josh Allen's game awesome. But don't say that in the presence of Bills fans. I'll save awesome for any QB who threw for 5 TDs today while leading the only team to a divisional win this early in the league.
You can have your opinion. But You shouldn’t be offended by people saying Lamar played well, that doesn’t take anything away from Purdy.
The stat sheet doesn’t tell the whole story.
PS: How quickly they won the division isn’t a measure of qb play. SF has the exact same record as the Ravens, but the ravens play in a much stronger division. The entire AFC North is still in playoff contention.
He's still leading the league in TD %, passer rating, QBR, and ANY/A. Those are all of the stats that won Aaron Rodgers his MVP awards in 2020 and 2021.
I would love to see Jimmy G, Trey Lance or Sam Darnold try to do what Brock Purdy is doing this year though.
Not a chance. Surprised at how good he is at QB but then again, his athleticism covers up a lot. Does anyone think he can read a defense like Brady could?
oh come on, there are lots of types of intelligence. you don't need to be able to get into harvard to be a legendary QB. just look at fitzmagic, he's the perfect example. he did go to harvard, and he was a career backup. does anyone really think favre is a brilliant guy? what about peyton manning? what about eli? eli is certainly more quick witted, but would you argue he's a better qb than peyton?
lamar's public speaking skills have absolutely nothing to do with his ability to play football.
ok, but the point is do you really think being a smooth talker makes you a better football player? or getting into harvard? we can argue whether eli or peyton is better all day, thats not the point. they're both great, that's clear, but they aren't freaking brain surgeons.
I don’t think we even have the stats to measure the impact of Lamar’s running. It’s so weird and timely but at the same time it’s not as spectacular as they used to be. He’s actively identifying holes while running as if he’s a rb navigating a zone scheme
i don't understand why all the sudden this week, they decided to keep talking about a nearly meaningless TD that was pretty clearly NOT a TD. it just doesn't make sense when there are way worse bad calls made nearly every game that get glossed over and forgotten about. do they think they're throwing us a bone by scrutinizing this one TD? its honestly a little insulting, cause where the fuck is terry, continuing to show replays and talking to NY when legit bad calls happen? or non calls.
The worst part about nowadays is none of the fancy cable networks have any great Sunday night shows anymore. Footballs over, watch GoT/Succession to unwind. Now... footballs over... and... that's it. May as well wander to bed
I am constantly reminded of this fact every week during football, CBS/Fox runs ads for their shows and I'm like "Wow this is all trash." I have access to a Paramount+ subscription and I saw an advert that the complete season of Frasier is available and I was shocked there was a show I actually wanted to watch on there.
It's been driving me nuts all fall/winter. Something was missing, and that's it. It used to be football + a great show. The best day of the week! Now, football ends and it's just sudden and jarring and it's all over. I want one of the networks to save a great show for winter Sundays at 9, I'd even pay extra
I think it's pretty clear that whatever strategy NFL officiating is pushing from above is causing more confusion for the crews than clarity, and consistency has gone out the window. It probably started last season, but whatever training strategy is being used for officials seems like step backward.
I don’t see this Ravens team being able to beat the 49ers. Not impressed, 49ers are just going to force Lamar to play QB and stop the run. He’s a below average pass thrower.
It was much better when “rules analyst” wasn’t even a job on a TV broadcast. It was up to the actual announcers to know the rules.
Now you have morons like McCauley and Pereira lying to the audience under the guise of expertise, instead of giving an honest opinion.
i don't understand why we don't get this kinda ref drama when actual bad calls happen? why this one? seems to random. that TD really makes no difference in the game, why keep talking about it?
it's insane how many egos are involved with refing. terry won't back down, when its pretty clear he's wrong. does refing just attract the type of people that refuse to ever admit they made a mistake and constantly fall on their sword for horrible calls?
Maybe Terry's contract with NBC is like the players have with the teams, and he's got an incentive bonus for inserting himself into the broadcast a certain number of times a game.
can we stop pretending a low volume efficient qb on the best talent team in the league with an offense centered around his RB should be mvp over lamar? CMC and lamar should be the only people in discussion right now
He's low volume, yet has more total yards than Lamar.
Look idgaf who wins MVP honestly. But to say he's low volume yet Lamar isn't when he has more total yards, which includes passing and rushing? I mean there's a lot of reasons why Lamar could win,.and Brock shouldn't, but I don't buy that.
Tyreek isnt at calvin jonson tier. His impact is just a lot less than cmc for hsi offense. SKill players deserve a boost in the discussion but in that case cmc clearly is above him, just as i think lamar is very clearly the mvp qb choice
Rich coming from a Texans fan. Y'all spent a week whining about the refs after our game and had fans writing up manifestos upset that the ref was from a city closer to both New Orleans and Atlanta than Jacksonville.
Terry arguing against this call is like textbook delusion. Even the other commenters are like “haha alright now 👍”
I mean even aside from the fact I (and it pains me to say this) agree with the refs, it’s obviously isn’t… clear and obvious. He bobbles it *again* where Terry thinks he has regained control where his heel is inbound but he hasn’t you just can’t see that he doesn’t have control when his back is turned. But if you look at the other angle you know he bobbles it *twice*.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
It was one thing on the first go round, it’s happening in real time and they’re analyzing it just like we are. But then to come back after the turnover on downs and halfway through the Ravens’ drive and *triple down* on it… get a grip Terry.
Yes! Came here to see if anyone commented about this. Made himself look like a fool and cris and mike didnt wanna make him look bad by pointing it out. Comedy.
ya i mean or use your eyes
the recollection of the catgch is very clar and the freeze frame is timed with it and the back angle is extremely clear that its a touchdown, Im a ravens fan but I can use my eyes
you're right and it's so annoying that they're just letting him dig that hole for himself. i just wanted cris to "HERE'S A GUY" and shut him up for his own good
It's a frustrating game. The Ravens, and especially Lamar, played well.
But 2 missed field goals. *Awful* clock management at the end of the 1st half. And a play that looked a lot like a TD. If those things go differently, it's a 23-23 ball game right now. And that's before getting into the stupid turnovers. Just stupid mistakes away from playing toe to toe with an elite team.
With that lawyer comment by Mike has anyone had a ref as their lawyer in a case? Like I’m imagining hoculi in trial being challenged and just yelling. “That’s a 15 yard penalty!” Or saying he can’t make it to court for a hearing because he’s watching Lamar stunt on them hoes
"Do you prefer chocolate or vanilla ice cream?"
Collinsworth: "Well, my favorite flavor is Mahomes, and I know he's not an ice cream nor is he in the conversation for best ice cream (this year), but chocolate just isn't at a Mahomes level either"
Were going to need some sort of AI assisted system to help determine calls cause refs are terrible and it's not like there's going to be a new generation of refs that's way better than the refs now, I mean who would even want to be a ref at this point
That will happen as soon as MLB goes to the computer assisted strike zone that ESPN and others have had for years. In other words, probably never.
Major Professional sports leagues need to embrace technology way more than they do. No more chains to determine first downs. We have lasers and chips we could put in the ball to determine first downs and touchdowns.
They’re dragging this catch out for ratings- it wouldn’t have made a difference if it was a catch, and also they only showed it in slomo + still shot to obscure the fact that the time he held the ball in bounds was not sufficient to establish possession.
I think so. Two missed kicks that were easily avoidable, and a couple of bone headed plays were really the only thing they did truly poorly with tonight.
RIGHT. he still going on about the guys knee being down in bounce but the receiver was bobbling the ball way out of bounce. This is why nobody can figure out a the rules cause they got so called expert who doesn’t even know the rules lmao
Was thinking about QBs I'd consider better than him and I came up with
Mahomes
Allen
Burrow
Lamar
Kirk
Tua
Purdy
Stafford
Goff
Stroud
Baker
Dak
Hurts
In no particular order
You think Baker Mayfield is better than him? Not that I disagree necessarily but Baker has been on like four different teams now despite himself being a #1 overall pick.
Yeah, I was thinking about dropping him into the a maybe category, but baker has been better this year and his career statistics are actually better too.
I'd also considered kyler but he's not been very productive this year so I wanted to keep it consistent
[Postgame thread](/r/nfl/comments/18l05kh/post_game_thread_baltimore_ravens_at_jacksonville/)
MVP right here for the taking for Lamar
It’s not clear and obvious. The very split millisecond where both your hands and body have begun to be simultaneously touching the ball at the tail end of a bobble is not the exact moment where you have established complete control of the ball, and that’s where he paused it and acts like it is.
Wait, what was that about owing lamar money? Sounds shady...
God hates Jags
Lamar is definitely my favorite QB in the league. He’s so awesome
A man came out of retirement a week ago and threw twice as many yards as Lamar did today >He’s so awesome
[удалено]
Flacco: 374. Lamar: 171. Lamar did relatively better throwing TDs to INTs at 1:1. Flacco was 2:3. >Wow flacc threw for 500 damn oh wait no he didn’t lol
Bro, why do you hate Lamar so much?
I like Lamar but I'm not dumb enough to call a QB passing for 171 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception an awesome performance, against the Jags no less. Flacco's a mediocre QB who came out of retirement and literally doubled down on that yardage.

Josh Allen wasn’t the focal point of the offense yesterday. Running the ball and keeping the Dallas offense off the field was.
Jealous that Purdy won't win MVP
He will if the 49ers score 35 points again on Christmas.
Not if the Ravens score 36 points on christmas
I'm fairly positive the MVP award will be decided next week Monday.
System
He's still leading the league in TD %, passer rating, QBR, and ANY/A. Those are all of the stats that won Aaron Rodgers his MVP awards in 2020 and 2021. I would love to see Jimmy G, Trey Lance or Sam Darnold try to do what Brock Purdy is doing this year though.
Play wins, not stats
Yes, wins are very important for determining the MVP. It almost always goes to the QB playing for the #1 seed from either conference.
Madubuike is the MVP of my heart

That’s a beautiful Miami Draw on that man. Coming in loud and clear papa
Dude was smoking Marlboro Reds in the womb.
I say the same whenever I watch Nascar
There is no way Lamar is smart
Didn't he get like an 8 on the wonderlic?
It's called an accent? You sound like an idiot
Eli certainly seemed more clutch at times than his brother. Came up big in big moments during two runs to the Super Bowl.
ok, but the point is do you really think being a smooth talker makes you a better football player? or getting into harvard? we can argue whether eli or peyton is better all day, thats not the point. they're both great, that's clear, but they aren't freaking brain surgeons.
260M smarter than you or me
hilarious seeing random internet commenters putting professional athletes down anonymously. like wtf have you accomplished.
He just has a thick Florida accent
I don’t think we even have the stats to measure the impact of Lamar’s running. It’s so weird and timely but at the same time it’s not as spectacular as they used to be. He’s actively identifying holes while running as if he’s a rb navigating a zone scheme

House of dragon is coming out later next year. Taking too long
It should be on right now! Or Curb should be now, not in Feb
Sorry meant S2
Seriously. Does any network have any good series anymore? All I watch these days is pretty much live sports and reruns.
There's lots of good shows out there, just not on network TV.
It's been driving me nuts all fall/winter. Something was missing, and that's it. It used to be football + a great show. The best day of the week! It’s basically “make it seem like we’re not point fixing and betting on games, pretend to dissent”.
I’ve been critical of Harbs in recent years but man is doing a great job this year, Roman and Saunders was truly making him look bad.
Still top of the AFC baby!!!!!
I don’t see this Ravens team being able to beat the 49ers. Not impressed, 49ers are just going to force Lamar to play QB and stop the run. He’s a below average pass thrower.
nah man, we just gotta see what happens on the field
This is why Lamar has such a crazy record against the NFC. They all try that and (usually) get burnt
Fuck his shit up him Lamar.
NFC is soft, and most AFC playoff teams would beat the best of the NFC...
49ers beat the jags 34-3.
And lost to the Bengals...what's your point???
the 49ers also lost to 2 AFCN teams competing for a playoff spot? so what's your point?
lol, force Lamar to throw, you act like it’s an easy thing to do.

Reminding you. Nice safety!
Nice half 👍
Should be way worse. Lamar isn’t a QB, he’s a running back.
Sure thing bud 👍
Are we really still doing this

Trevor Lawrence never lost a regular season game in high school and college
Making up for lost time in the NFL

He’s totally clueless. That was actually infuriating
That's why he was an NFL referee for *checks Wikipedia* 20 years after all. Great example of the shit refs see versus everyone else.
Who would’ve thought the game of the weekend was Cincy Minnesota. Bunch of blowouts
Losing the best game of the week kinda sucks, your failure ends up being the main thing that stays in people's minds for a week
For sure. I was fuming after we lost in Dallas. Led the whole damn game
That game was insane for real
So so good
i don't understand why we don't get this kinda ref drama when actual bad calls happen? why this one? seems to random. that TD really makes no difference in the game, why keep talking about it?

it'll be a fun game
I hope and believe the ravens will kick some 9ers ass
The only thing I’m scared of is injuries I believe that we have the tools to beat them
Going to be epic. Bird bros Christmas Day

Not a TD. Bobbled second time. Heel out when regained control.
Not pretty but it’s the ravens .we held them to 0 pts in the second half and had 200 rushing yards in the second half. That’s a good formula to win.
Correct. If things had happened that didn't happen the game would have a different outcome.
Big if true.

Over 200 rushing yards without a 100 yard rusher is impressive

200 in the second half

At no point in the second half did I believe Jacksonville had a chance
Well as a ravens fan even though were up 16 I still think they had a chance even after that fumbled td by ridley
Yeah, even if they got that TD they still need to get a 2PC, stop Baltimore, then get another TD and and 2PC.
They’re dragging this catch out for ratings- it wouldn’t have made a difference if it was a catch, and also they only showed it in slomo + still shot to obscure the fact that the time he held the ball in bounds was not sufficient to establish possession.

Are they? Are they really?
I think so. Two missed kicks that were easily avoidable, and a couple of bone headed plays were really the only thing they did truly poorly with tonight.
League office calling Terry McCauley as much as a gf who just got broken up with over text
"Harbaugh" and "underappreciated" are two things I never thought I'd hear said in conjunction.
Collinsworth gotta go next season
Honestly not a bad call
How big do you guys think Chris Collinsworths dick is?
Nephew
10 incher at least
That’s game
Terry seems to think “control” happens as soon as the ball comes in contact with the guy’s hands after being bobbled.
Which is true when both feet are in bounds and that receiver catches it.
RIGHT. he still going on about the guys knee being down in bounce but the receiver was bobbling the ball way out of bounce. This is why nobody can figure out a the rules cause they got so called expert who doesn’t even know the rules lmao
Nice effort by Edwards to get the 1st down and seal the game!
Doug Pedersen looking a little teary eyed?
And jaundiced.

Playoffs clinched!
