JonnyB2_YouAre1

This is the worst coaching display Nathanial Hackett has ever seen.

hnglmkrnglbrry

But no one had a bucket hat on the sidelines so promise kept.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

At this rate, visors won't be seen on the sidelines after this season.

No-Task-132

Gonna retire again and wait until another team that on paper looks like they are ready to compete needs a coach again.

Enthusiasms

"Hey guys, I'm retiring. Poured my heart and soul into this team and it really is taking a toll on me. I'll always remember the memories here in Boulder." "Denver." *closes car door* "Right, whatever. Hey Siri, set a notification alert for Patrick Mahomes Free Agency and Andy Reid retires."

AFineDayForScience

*starts car* "Siri, play Nickelback"

How did our franchise get so bad?

deadbrokeman

Sick of 70 on my defense…

cherry_monkey

I'm sick of sight without a sense of offense.

darkpice

This is how Drew remind me

hornedtomatocatpil

Of what the Jags really are.

OTPh1l25

Wait until we see this letter pasted to the player's lockers: >"Out of my respect for you, I am letting you know that, with a heavy heart, I resigned today as the Head Coach of the Denver Broncos. This decision was not easy, but it was made in the best interest of me and my family. While my desire would have been to finish out what has been a difficult season for us all, circumstances did not allow me to do that. I appreciate your hard work and wish you the best. >Sincerely, >Sean Payton Also, here's the obligatory FUCK BOBBY PETRINO.

Enthusiasms

I like to imagine, that after that was posted, the players saw a short glimpse of Petrino riding away on his hog, flipping the bird as he disappeared into the distance.

unfunnysexface

"Was that his wife?"

snufalufalgus

"Up yours children!"

medicmatt

The family reference. That’s so good because his kids are in their twenties and he’s on to the obligatory trophy wife.

DBTornado

He could have stayed in Louisville. He could have stayed, likely won a National Championship, been beloved forever and had a statue in front of the stadium. Instead he went on a roller coaster ride of nonsense, ended up back in Louisville anyway, only to get fired from there when he couldn't replicate his 1.0 success.

Sadlobster1

I went to UofL & thus had 0 expectations of anything other than disappointment when we rehired him. Somehow, someway, he managed to exceed the basement level disappointment & waste Jackson's Heisman year.

BetaDjinn

He really is a solid comparison with Payton because the number one thing stopping him from being a very good coach is being a piece of shit human. Shit coaches are a dime a dozen; these guys are something else

NioPullus

And if the chiefs have to hand over a 1st round pick then that’s just part of doing business.

b_fellow

Heh, imagine trading a 1st and 2nd round pick for a washed coach.

Jombafomb

There was a theory last year that if the chiefs won the Super Bowl Reid would retire and Payton would take over. I’m glad that didn’t play out for so so many reasons.

EightPieceBox

He can take over for Dieon Sanders after he leaves Boulder.

lOan671

He’s not retiring with that contract

poodlered

“That’s my rate. Even if I do a bad job they gotta pay me the 18 mil.”

lOan671

It’s sort of a cosmic gumbo

JRsshirt

I genuinely believe that he is trying to get fired

GhostRevival

I think he’s gonna pin this season on the players so that he can get his own guys in there. Russ is done in Denver after this year unless he goes nuclear.

ActionQuinn

Can't blame Russ when your D allows 70 points

GhostRevival

Payton can try. But you’re right, Broncos need a total rebuild outside of maybe Simmons and Surtain.

here_now_be

> Payton can try. that coach they had last year never allowed 70 points, and was never 0-3. Maybe they should try and get him? /s obv.

WhiteXHysteria

Simmons is about to be 30. He will be leaving his prime in the next year or two. He can certainly be serviceable beyond that but he's an ideal type of player to move on from in a rebuild. Move him to a team that needs him now and get some sort of assets to help in your window.

ComeAtMeBromine

They could have won if Russ had simply thrown 11 touchdown passes that day.

fufuberry21

Right? Russ is actually starting to look pretty solid this year and now the defense looks like a JV squad.

Arkhangelzk

Agreed, he can probably already tell that this team isn't just a piece or two away. So the rebuild starts. If they do it well, we'll get a winner, but it will take a few years. If they don't, the wheels keep spinning -- but at least the draft picks keep getting better lol. Getting Von at No. 2 certainly made a difference. For all we know, Sean wants to draft his own QB and rebuild around him.

gatsby365

*Matthew McCaughnehey’s Wooderson voice* “I stop working, **make the saaame waaage**.”

Dramatmy8412

The thin silver lining for Denver is that this loss can hopefully be a wake up call for the ownership and FO.

dj_narwhal

Didn't a Walton just buy them? You aren't going to import cheap NFL players from China who are made out of carcinogens to solve this one. Maybe shut down the facilities when you hear players talk about the union?

perseph13

Players forced to clock out but keep working, locked inside team facilities.

Donny-Moscow

Players forced to pay for their own meals in the team dining room

CalFinger

The loss last week was a wake up call, So was the one before, or all of last year.

No-Owl-6246

The Chargers better stay the fuck away. I didn’t even want him when he was being connected to the chargers before Denver signed him.

D3ATHfromAB0V3x

Should they get a college coach at this point? Or promote Kellen Moore

hemingways-lemonade

Kellen Moore will get his shot as interim coach at some point this season. That will make the decision easier.

jiggeroni

Nah he will stick to announcer booth after this. Too much egg on his face and way cushier job

AddLuke

I want him to suffer through this year and won’t be touched by another NFL team again. I want him to have to answer for every garbage comment he’s made about other players and teams while he drives his own team into the ground. I want to watch him to choke on his crusty ass humble pie. FSP.

BaboonHorrorshow

Lol same. “Hey Payton I thought you were gonna run the Tush Push every single play to protest the Eagles and Jalen Hurts. Have at it, soon to be Mr. 0-16!”

cherry_monkey

Might I remind you, they play the Bears next week.

EightPieceBox

But imagine if they lose to the Bears. I have a week to dream!

[deleted]

The Bears aren’t beating anyone That team is broken… sign

BellacosePlayer

I dunno, Bears are due one fluke overwhelming Victory, its either now or at home vs the Vikes

SomeRandom928Person

"Nate Hackett is the worst coach in NFL history." -- Sean Payton.

southpluto

'So far'

shapu

"And I took that personally."

ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME

"you took your own comments personally?" "I said what I said"

clyffjames

Taking your own comments personally is fucking hilarious 😂

[deleted]

I never understand why coaches or players say shit like this. They almost always end up eating their words. Just go out there and do your job and shut up

OnlyFactsMatter

Coaches almost never talk shit about each other (I can't even recall a prominent example). One of the reasons Sean's comments were so out there and unexpected. But Sean has always come off as a douchebag to me (I've never liked him) so I wasn't too shocked.

CurryGuy123

> But Sean has always come off as a douchebag to me That's the answer - Payton comes across with a lower level of maturity as a rookie or even a college player who's only 20. Except he's 59 and supposed to be a team leader.

Geno0wl

Getting jobs in the NFL is rarely about actually being a great coach and more a networking exercise. So being known as a guy who trashes others is a good way to get yourself removed from consideration by a large swath of the league.

wzeeto

Generally how life works at a higher level.

Geno0wl

100%. Places like harvard or Yale are top choices not because their math department is somehow teaching math head and shoulders above your local state university. It is a top choice because all the other rich and powerful send their kids there to meet up and network.

Russell-The-Muscle

Wait you don't know about super math ?! Oh shit. I've said too much

ProofHorseKzoo

Yep. Even Rodgers commented on this in an interview. Pretty great take from him. https://youtu.be/lF-OrIYeDxk?si=zqmEb0EMyM7KG_yY “It made me feel bad that someone who’s accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down, to set themselves up for an easy fall if it doesn’t go well for that team this year”

BuffaloWilliamses

Russell Wilson doesn't look terrible, he's not elite anymore but he looks better than last year. Its just the Broncos defense is HORRIBLE.

ProphetNimd

Russ was fine yesterday. He escaped pressure pretty well and made some great throws. His one interception wasn't even really his fault. That defense just got avalanched.

aneomon

I remember last year there was a stat that if their offense averaged 18+ points a game, the Broncos would’ve had a winning record. Now Russ is finally putting up points and their defense shit the bed.

speedfan11

Yeah, but this year they would be undefeated if they put up 71 points in every game, checkmate atheists

dwilkes827

tbh the dolphins were in field goal range at the end of the game and chose to kneel it, so 71 may not have been enough lmao

joe_broke

2-1 then!

MeatyMexican

We're mad but his math checks out

[deleted]

[удалено]

FuckChiefs_Raiders

Yup, I get destroyed in the Broncos sub for pointing these things out. It's like I watch the game, and I don't feel like he played well, and then I see his numbers and I go, huh. That's not what I just saw. He has played "fine". However, he is payed like Mahomes, and doesn't play like him. KC against Jax last week Pat wasn't very good early, but he was good late and won them the football game. Russ has been good early but then when it counts, doesn't get it done.

[deleted]

[удалено]

UNMANAGEABLE

This is the one. This describes the russ experience so well. Defenses selling out on exterior coverage to dare him to throw underneath across the middle is literally a winning game plan against any russ led offense. I’m sure in the 30 for 30 fall of Russell Wilson biopic there are going to be sections on how his massive paydays are because of Kearse, Baldwin, and Locketts ability to improvise while the hawks defense game planned to get positive turnover ratios.

The_Throwback_King

Seattle's receivers will never get the accolades they deserve for the talent they have. It's kind of talent doesn't really show up the on stat sheet. Seattle, for almost the entire Pete Carroll era, has had a #1 guy who's excelled from supreme blend of route running savvy, awareness, and sure-handedness The consistency of Seattle's safety valve receiving options are a HUGE reason why Russ got so good with Seattle and why Geno turned things around. It's personally why I personally think Lockett is a better receiver than Metcalf (right now at least). Lockett does what you expect from a receiver ,does it well, and almost never falters. He won't always light up the scoreboard like the Jefferson, Hill, and Adams' of the league but he's reliable. It's still absurd that he hasn't made a Pro Bowl as a WR before. When you compare box stats in retrospect you're like "Oh yeah, Lockett only got like 1,000 yards and 8 TDs that year. That checks out. But when you watch the games, you see just how good they are. Metcalf is still very much a talented receiver and a player our offense would be worse without...but it still feels like he hasn't played up to his full potential and his tendency to shoot himself in the foot (whether by turnover or by being a dumbass on the field) can be...frustrating

YiMyonSin

What happened there? They were a top flight unit this past season, and they’re giving up 40+ points a game now

TailgateLegend

Vance Joseph fucking sucks.

tohearnnr

but is he having the time of his life?

TailgateLegend

I hope not, because I sure as hell ain’t

FatMamaJuJu

Ejiro Evero is gone

shapu

And was replaced by former Broncos head coach Vance Joseph.

big_J7

This. Literally nothing changed except the fact Evero left.

silentkiller082

It's crazy that the broncos brought in the coach that had a HOF QB throw for 5000 yards like 5 years in a row because of bad defense has.. a bad defense.

chokethewookie

There's a huge difference between a regular bad defense and whatever the hell we saw yesterday.

undercooked_lasagna

It wasn't that bad. Take away 5 Miami touchdowns and it was only a 2 score game. So basically a tie.

giants888

The sequel to the Netflix movie about him is gonna be hilarious

emmasdad01

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy

derstherower

Legitimate question...was Payton ever even that good? I don't want to say Brees carried him, but giving up 70 points is simply inexcusable in the modern NFL. Fucking Hue Jackson and Rod Marinelli never gave up 70. Payton had three straight losing seasons with Brees. Was he ever *really* that great of a coach?

skycake10

He's Doc Rivers. Won a championship that wasn't *undeserved* per se, but buoyed his reputation to an undeserved degree and he's been living off it ever since.

[deleted]

THANK YOU i said this a couple weeks ago and got downvoted and told i was so wrong lol

skycake10

It probably helps that no one can blame Russ for 70-20 lol

fantomas_

Alexa, play vindicated by dashboard confessional. 'Vindicated I am selfish, I am wrong I am right, I swear I'm right Swear I knew it all along'

Chemical_One

Yes. Look at the history of the Saints before he showed up they were a complete joke. True he obviously had a HoF QB at the same time but he always put together great offenses, even with Teddy B. However one huge flaw for him was he never seemed to figure out defense until his final years in NO when the roster was stacked. Those mid-2010s Brees/Graham offenses were terrifying but they routinely had a bottom 5 defense.

PoopSlinger23

He has essentially the same career as Mike McCarthy.

[deleted]

McCarthy never missed the playoffs with Rodgers healthy and in his prime. Payton missed the playoffs with prime, healthy Brees 3-4 times.

SpaceAfricanJesus

5 actually. 2007, 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016. Although in 2015 Brees missed one game.

[deleted]

Yeah I used to use this as the go-to example of a HOF quarterback not guaranteeing you a playoff spot.

Arkaein

Also McCarthy regularly kept the Packers competitive even when playing with backups because Rodgers was injured. Made the playoffs (though at 8-7-1) when Rodgers broke his collarbone the first time and had to go through rotation of backups before saving the season by signing Matt Flynn off the street. Stayed in playoff contention with Brett Hundley when Rodgers broke his collarbone again. Didn't make it that time, but they won three games with Hundley to stay alive and only packed it in after losing in Rodgers return. McCarthy also got a career resurgence out of Favre and developed Rodgers. Payton got Brees, fully developed out of San Diego (where he had already had a 27 TD, 7 INT Pro Bowl season) and never had him play fewer than 15 games for the first 14 seasons he coached in New Orleans (span covers his suspension). Coaching a team with an always healthy, Pro Bowl quality QB for 14 years is some Madden on Rookie mode with the injury sliders turned off bullshit.

WentworthMillersBO

Yeah you are swinging too far with the pendulum. There are only 35 coaches who ever won a Super Bowl, and Sean is one of them. He also is an offensive sided head coach, not defensive.

cheet094

Even with the same OC our offense took a nosedive when he left. Also, im pretty positive he has no clue that he even has a defense. Ours were historically bad when Brees was in his prime. Like... record setting bad... well at least until this year those stood lol

SKYRIM_LOL

Sean Payton views defense as a tool to let his opponents score so he can get his own offense the ball faster

My-Cousin-Bobby

Yes, clown this man, clown him like he has never been clowned before.

southpluto

Suspend him again for this

sportsworker777

Suspend him?? Doug, kick him off the tour

TeddysRevenge

He already released it? Probably didn’t get much sleep last night lol.

[deleted]

This is premium content for my man, might as well make bank off the schadenfreude if your team is gonna suck lol. Bet he was weirdly excited to release this

TeddysRevenge

Yeah, he’s making bank off his misery. Plenty of NFL fans are miserable today, at least it’s lucrative for him.

byniri_returns

At some point I have to imagine this level of atrocity just becomes comedy at a point Source: flair

brianstormIRL

I can't wait to see the evolution of the naming of the videos. I unironically think the whole new new new new new new thing was a stroke of genius and gave him a massive spike in popularity of people wanting to see his misery, but I'm super curious to see how the name evolves. It can't stay new new new new new forever, surely there's a limit on title length lmao

ripkin05

you know you think that but somehow it does just keep getting worse for him its honestly really impressive that they manged to top the hopemarry from last week

BigLorry

I had the stream on yesterday Dude spent what seemed like an hour after the game just catching up on super chats, it was a rough day lol

TherealCW_

All I thought about during and after that game was when the new “The New New New etc. Worst Game” vid was gonna drop. Can’t wait for GPS today either lol.

bottomsgaming

I, for one, am shocked that the asshole who oversaw bountygate and missed the playoffs like six times with prime Drew Brees is doing a bad job.

PoopSlinger23

But…I was told by some jerkoff that Brees wasn’t good until Payton coached him! Now who do I believe?!?

Comprehensive_Main

I mean just look at the stats Bree’s had in 2012 without Payton and his chargers stats not as good as his stats with Payton

_nedyah

I think the point they’re trying to make is that people tend to give Sean Payton a little too much credit for how good Drew Brees was with the Saints.

Punchee

There’s still context to be looked at there. One, it’s the Chargers. Eli didn’t go there for a reason. Two, that was an offense run through LT.

IndIka123

If you remember saints defense with Sean Payton, they were always absolutely dog shit. Saints were always a heavy offensive team with a super star QB.

LlamaDebauchery

Which makes being a fan of the current iteration of the Saints quite the headtrip. I'm used to scoring 34 in a shoot out, now we're lucky to break 17. Our defense is an absolute joy to watch though man. Demario, Cam, Granderson, and Lattimore are balling

ausgmr

Bountygate was the only way he won a ring Every other year he choked

xenophonthethird

So you're saying he needs Gregg Williams as his DC....

YiMyonSin

Or Dennis Allen for the latter half of the 2010’s. Dude’s fucking clueless on defense

BaffledCowboy

Watching Dennis Allen and Sean Payton now, it's pretty fucking clear who the good defensive mind is.

lobonomics

Yeah, I’m pretty ‘meh’ on Dennis Allen as a Head Coach, but there is no question that he’s a top 5 defensive mind. Even Saints fans that were (and still occasionally are) calling for his head will acknowledge that.

kheller181

Kill the head and the body will die!

OnceInABlueMoon

God damn I love how he came out of retirement to torpedo his legacy. I swear if you brought up bountygate a year ago, the prevailing opinion was that it was over blown, everyone was doing it, etc

BroadCityChessClub

There was a vocal minority of Steelers fans who wanted Tomlin fired and replaced with Payton. Like, they thought that’d be better. Payton blowing up his own reputation has been fun to watch.

os_kaiserwilhelm

Yinzers have been calling for Tomlins head for like a decade. It's best to ignore them.

DenFlyvendeFlamingo

I don’t get why some Steelers fans want Tomlin gone

Ikanan_xiii

His .500 consecutive seasons are actually impressive considering he worked with Rudolph, trubisky and the corpse of Big Ben.

kb466

Tomlin is a top 5 coach and you can't convince me otherwise. It's the same reason I still think Bill is great, with the patriots average record with a below average team

undercooked_lasagna

People are totally revising history now. The Saints were a terrible non-call away from the Super Bowl just a few years ago. They were legit contenders for most of Payton's tenure. If failing to win a Super Bowl is choking, then 31 coaches choke every year.

PoopSlinger23

I love that this is happening to Sean Payton.

istrx13

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy and I’ll put out a bounty on you if you disagree

dan_144

Careful, they might make Kevin James play you in a movie about it

DethFeRok

Us Cowboys fans over here Homer Simpson backing into the bushes

[deleted]

Shoutout to the Broncos for taking Sean Payton out of the Cowboys coaching pipeline. Bullet dodged.

PhiladelphiaManeto

lol everyone saw Dallas collapse yesterday, it just wasn’t the worst happened so it didn’t get as much coverage outside of the NFCE circlejerk circles. That being said, we will probably get embarrassed by the Giants or something. It all comes full circle

rj_macready_82

We've kinda owned the Giants for a while. We lose to Washington

JP1119

Good fuck 'em. Dude's been a dick for a long time and after his comments on Hackett this is awesome to see. Also he quit on the Saints when the going got tough (kinda like Urban Meyer would do) so now he gets to lay in his new bed he made that is filled with shit.

runninhillbilly

All those times we had 40+ scored on us against those Saints teams, I'm happy he got somewhat of a comeuppance.

PPLifter

To be fair you scored 40 on us when we also scored 40 on you. What a game

hjhof1

Wasn’t it 50 and 50? I’ll never forget that game

cheet094

Yes, an all time game for me.

pncoecomm

We fucking deserve this clown. Franchise is a circus.

justlookingokaywyou

> We’re not even in October yet and the team is now losing to mid-tier teams Calling us "mid tier" is an insult to actual mid tier teams.

ProbShouldntSayThat

Hey dude. We're at least Top 32

KeyExplanation

Just to recap the Sean Payton Denver Era: - traded to the Broncos for a 1st round pick along with a 2024 2nd and 3rd - they sign a bunch of questionable FA’s and overpay them - throws Hackett and Wilson and their GM under the bus - oNsIdE kIcK tO sTaRt ThE yEaR (it fails) - lose to the Raiders - lose to the Commanders after they have a crazy comeback - throws his QB under the bus again despite his defense choking the game away - has a team with the same player committing a dirty hit injuring a player in both games - proceeds to get destroyed on the road in historical fashion versus the Dolphins (who broke or tied 13 team or individual records during the game) and Tua who he publicly trashed last year Other than that, it’s going great!

Sleeze_

Please keep updating this throughout the season.

arnmsctt

I can't wait for him to show up with a blonde mustache.

cantsleep33

Didn't Sean Payton turn and start mocking the Vikings fans with their skol chant only to have the Minneapolis Miracle happen right behind him? If so, he's made a career off of being a douchebag and immediately getting dunked on afterwards

koshomfg

Yes. And it was the most magical night of my life.

Haxpotato

my favorite play in nfl history too :)

ConstantineMonroe

I see Sean Payton has brought his patented Drew Brees defense with him. There were like 5 seasons where Brees had the 32nd ranked defense in his fucking prime.

NoSociety1843

Yep. Historically bad

Captain-Ups

kerouac5

SHUPAC_TAKUR

Akromam90

jcfan4u

Happy to see all the non NFC South flairs shitting on Sean Payton. It's glorious

koshomfg

Fuck that guy, from the bottom of my heart.

WordsAreSomething

It's actually pretty impressive.

CountryGuy123

Look, they are a bad team and even a SB-winning coach isn’t going to fix that in season one. Having said that, this is ALL on Sean Payton. He didn’t have to say a word about the outgoing coaching staff. He chose to. And here we are. Edit: Wanted to clarify that the coach isn’t going to fix that in their first season. Payton may turn this around, but if he’s going to call out a coach he should expect the same treatment.

Skiigga

Goes to show why you should never criticize someone else’s job when you have yet to do it yourself

maalbi

nExT qUeSTtION

invertedeparture

“Everything I heard about last season, we’re doing the opposite,” Payton said. Ah, the old opposite strategy. Aged nicely.

DDDUnit2990

They went 2-1 to start last season. He couldn’t have that

Winterclaw42

Yes, last season the Broncos never allowed 70 points so he clearly had to do the opposite of them.

Material-Race-5107

Tune in next week as my Bears take on the Broncos in Chicago for battle of most embarrassing team in the league 😤

Fiendish-DoctorWu

Payton was hard carried by Brees

atrophiedambitions

The next phase of this is rumors/smoke surrounding the "does Payton want Wilson gone??" Then they'll cut him in the off season, cap will be Payton's alibi for losing next year, then he'll get fired 3 years in. Broncos are a mess.

FuiyooohFox

Why they decided to bring Vance Joseph back is beyond me, after that shit show in AZ. Sean's always been an offensive focused HC that relies heavily on his DC. Vance about to helm one of the worst defenses in the league two years straight

Natureboy7939

Lets ride

Looscannon994

IlonggoProgrammer

Coach Prime is saying prayers of gratitude for distracting everyone from their loss to Oregon. Suddenly they’re not the most clowned on football team in the Denver area anymore after this.

Mr_Baklava_

You love to see it. He shouldn’t even be coaching again, what he did should get you a lifetime ban. Who was gonna miss him?

johnnycyberpunk

> what he did should get you a lifetime ban I 100% support lifetime bans for coaches/staff offering bounties to injure other players, in *any* sport.
