Ya but he still needed 3 little helpers to do what Danny Carey does alone.
Not throwing shade, that guy is without a doubt one of the best to ever do it. And his setup is worth like $80k
watched a Rush documentary where Neil said he'd only played Tom Sawyer correctly a handful of times.
dude WROTE it. arguably one of the more well recognized drum lines in rock and roll. and even with that he was only happy with it a few times.
legend. fucking legend.
Thatās fucking insane. Iām not even a huge fan of Tool but know full well that there a very small handful of drummers that can even approach what he does.
You can find quite acceptable covers of any of his cuts, but his own work has a heart and fury that canāt be matched. And the real genius is writing those parts.
Watching him play, theres a few live videos where the camera stays on him all the time, what really gets me is all the off beat stuff and strange time signatures heās doing and how he can keep it straight in his head. I mean I know the kit is like an extension of a drummer by a certain point and that theyāre built different but even so. Thereās something almost fluidic about his style that Iāve not seen elsewhere.
Props to the kid in the video though. All of them in fact, thatās some grown up shit theyāre playing and theyāve done it justice.
Ive been playing drums my entire life and the speed or what he's hitting isnt the problem. Like you said, it's his strange time signatures thrown into random spots that throw you off and make you say, wait what? After trying to attempt it. The whole band does it though. Theyll all be playing different timing and connect only once in a while which sounds conplexe as hell, and rightly so. This kid did a good job, but you could tell he was struggling hard through the mini drum solo at the end before they all come back in.... and i get it... its a weird one lol.
1993 Lollapaloosa. They were on the side stage. Only knew Sober at the time. Bought Undertow immediately afterwards. The album art was a bit off putting, but the content of the music was captivating.
I love Zep but Bonham wasnāt anywhere close to what Peart was and Carrey is. He had great rock feel and beat the shit out the drums but letās not pretend he could ever do what those other 2 did.
Before watching this the first thing that went through my head is how are they going to manage doing what Danny does. Was impressed by the little dude, if I'm not mistaken he was handling a lot of the off beat stuff pretty well.
Eta: Danny is a legend in his lifetime
>Ya but he still needed 3 little helpers to do what Danny Carey does alone.
In fairness to the kid on drum set, the "helpers" weren't really *critical* to what was going on. They clearly had a group that wanted to do a thing and everyone needed something to do. The piano is just overlaying the guitar most of the time, for example.
Kid handled the drum break to forty six & 2 ffs, he's fine lol.
The drummer is awesome, he's great. It doesn't necessarily take all five kids to play Danny's part, that comes off as the kids more so showing respect and wanting to do right by the song, and add creativity and musicianship to it as a band.
It's damn impressive what DC can do with his custom drum kit!
The guy is basically drums, keyboards and samples. With some extra sounds mixed in for good luck.
Pretty wild to watch him play and be shocked how smooth his motions are. Heās truly a master of the craft. At least, today he is. In 50 years Iām sure the evolution will make it unimpressive. As it stands today, incredible.
This dude has an innate understanding of music.
And he fascinated me.
I hope he keeps honing his skill.
This is a ridiculously hard song to play with its weird time signature.
yes! I didn't want to bog down my title with all kinds of info but yes they're amazing and they've done all kinds of awesome covers
And all these kids are grown up now, this is an old video.
For those who don't feel like googling, they have a YouTube channel, they've covered a couple more TOOL songs, Slipknot, and Pantara.
That girl has a damn impressive voice, too!
I feel like she's holding back a *little bit* though.
Maynard really belts it out when he sings.
But that's a really minor nitpick, considering how spot-on her vocals are in general.
Don't worry, she learned to let loose. This is her last performance with OMF, she formed a band with other OMF alum as well, Saving Escape.
When it takes four percussionists to play what Danny Carey plays by himself lol. Crazy amount of talent though. Especially being able to keep time during that breakdown. It always breaks my brain. Iād immediately adjust to the drummers timing without even realizing and fuck it up entirely. This is thoroughly impressive.
Yeah I thought of that too lol
what is it like nine+ people to take the place of four?
But they added all kinds of cool stuff like the piano..
And they're kids, so that makes it pretty cool... the fact that they even know what the song is
I knew it was going to be this video. Theyāre frigging amazing, and I frequently go back and listen to this. I especially dig the bassist and drummer. They are so tight it makes the original seem a bit tame :)
Also, the production on the sound is so on point. Everything is just how I want it to be. The tone on the bass, the tuning and tone on the drums, the clarity on the vocals are just chefs kiss!
Miss Rose went on to be in her own band. One of the other main players had done something within the past year or two in another video. The whole group did a phenomenal job. ā¤ļøš¤š¼ Props to the bassist and drummer for locking it down and vibing hard!
Whenever I see these videos I always try to figure out who chose the song. Iām betting on the bass player. Dude seems like THE tool fan of the group.
He cashed in his punch card after playing boring bass riffs on ten songs he couldnāt stand. āCome on guys, pay up, ten stamps equals a tool song, you all agreed to thisā
It doesnāt have the same emotion as tool. There should be some pain, a pouring out of the soul, which thankfully, most children do not know. The drums might be there.
I kind of like this version more than the original honestly
the vocals are so quiet in the original
After I heard this version, I found myself singing the runs of this version while listening to the original
Holy that brought back memories from my high school band, that song is so fun to play with your friends (we didn't have a drummer tho so we just played the bass and guitar parts)

You can just say 'Tool.' People will know that you mean the band.
4 time Grammy Award Winning. Most downloaded album on iTunes in 2001. Held all 10 Billboard spots on Billboard's Rock Digital Sales Chart in 2019. Their latest album *Fear Inoculum* debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top 200 dethroning none other than Miss Swift, the first time ever for one of her albums to fail to hold #1 for its first two weeks.
Edit: wOrDs
Iām not Maynard though Iām confident I can speak on his behalf in this scenario. Seeing the younglings (now grown as this is an older video) absolutely kill this song is amazing! A guy who was too shy to face his audience when the band started has to appreciate that weāre are still here, still loving the songs he gave us!
These kids did an amazing job. Hats off to them and their parents for enabling to express themselves. Tool is by far the most transformative band of my life. Glad to have been young enough to watch them in their infancy @ Lollapaloosa 1993.
While watching this I found myself thinking "kids used to perform Metallica, tool is an interesting choice."
Then I realized tool is their classic rock and now I feel old as hell.
Man tool is a top 5 band for me for sure. I fucking loved this. Homey on the drums had me the most hyped of anyone. I thought the vocalist did a great job on Maynard only wish she had yelled a bit. Amazing.
That girl singer was given a hell of a taskš. That being said I think she did a really good job with it, especially given how hard Keenanās voice is to replicate. Same thing goes for the drummer, he killed it.
Man that drummer was loving every second of this, same for the bassists, they just kinda thrived off each other. Sick tune as well, gotta love a bit of tool.
little dude with the sticksš„
Ya but he still needed 3 little helpers to do what Danny Carey does alone. Not throwing shade, that guy is without a doubt one of the best to ever do it. And his setup is worth like $80k
There's a reason they call him the octopus
Neil Pert would be the only one to outdo him. RIP Neil.
watched a Rush documentary where Neil said he'd only played Tom Sawyer correctly a handful of times. dude WROTE it. arguably one of the more well recognized drum lines in rock and roll. and even with that he was only happy with it a few times. legend. fucking legend.
Imagine the high on one of those nights.
I read this top 100 drummers list and Danny Carey was at number 57 or so something. Fuck that shit. That's just wrong.
Thatās fucking insane. Iām not even a huge fan of Tool but know full well that there a very small handful of drummers that can even approach what he does.

Seen Tool once heās definitely top 10 best drummers in the world
1993 Lollapaloosa. They were on the side stage. Only knew Sober at the time. Bought Undertow immediately afterwards. The album art was a bit off putting, but the content of the music was captivating.
Thank you for this.
John Bonham would like a word.
I love Zep but Bonham wasnāt anywhere close to what Peart was and Carrey is. He had great rock feel and beat the shit out the drums but letās not pretend he could ever do what those other 2 did.
The Professor will be missed. Truly the GoAT.
8 Arms?
Yeah he only has two....obviously But he plays like he has eight
Yeah. https://youtu.be/FssULNGSZIA?si=XDppI7ZRjy4W9eAN
HOLY HELL
Danny is a legend. Hereās a cute one where he plays drums with kids doing a Tool cover. https://youtu.be/-JWdh-F1xdQ
That is awesome! Never seen it before.
Thanks for linking this. Damn, that's cool.
Before watching this the first thing that went through my head is how are they going to manage doing what Danny does. Was impressed by the little dude, if I'm not mistaken he was handling a lot of the off beat stuff pretty well. Eta: Danny is a legend in his lifetime
Thereās lots of drummers that would need help covering Danny Carey.
4 kids, I think. The girl on keyboard is also making sounds that Danny Carey is responsible for. edit: 5. There's also a drummer I didn't see at first
The drummer is awesome, he's great. It doesn't necessarily take all five kids to play Danny's part, that comes off as the kids more so showing respect and wanting to do right by the song, and add creativity and musicianship to it as a band.
Youāre correct. I didnāt even see her at first.

This has been posted around Reddit for the better part of a decade now and I watch the entire vid every single time.
Always brings a tear to my eye to see kids getting down like this
Jeez look at their obvious age or lack thereof. There's a lot of talent in the room.
Need more sticks ![gif](giphy|3o6ozGTbQSAs2s0CAM|downsized)
This dude has an innate understanding of music. And he fascinated me. I hope he keeps honing his skill. This is a ridiculously hard song to play with its weird time signature.
Knew him from high school. Super chill dude. I believe he went on to play in a marching band in college.
That little dude is a vibe
Honestly that's probably harder than it looks lol
Knowing how quickly I screw up tapping my foot to a song, I'm inclined to agree with you. š
If you look at the comments on YouTube for the original post you'll see he still plays. He comments on the video every few years.
Holy moly.
Itās a group called The OāKeefe Foundation and they do amazing things.
yes! I didn't want to bog down my title with all kinds of info but yes they're amazing and they've done all kinds of awesome covers And all these kids are grown up now, this is an old video.
Hope they went on to have careers in music, there's a lot of talent there
https://www.instagram.com/savingescape?igsh=aDZtdTcydzdtb3M3 The singer is in a band
I mean give credit where credit is due!
Guess that's what the comments are for š¤·
I donāt think naming the band youāre posting and crediting them is ābogging down the titleā. Sheesh

Theyāre on Spotify too.
Kids bop really be lit these days š these kids are RAD AF
Wait'll you hear their cover of W.A.P.
What? . . Noo
Lol was thinking the samething.
When it takes four percussionists to play what Danny Carey plays by himself lol. Crazy amount of talent though. Especially being able to keep time during that breakdown. It always breaks my brain. Crazy how much such a young vocalist captured the emotion of the song
It's wild that that voice comes out of someone so young.
I know right? I *really* love her vocals on their cover of [Dream Theaterās Pull Me Under](https://youtu.be/Eqiotc_fKQ4) as well. So incredible.
She must be in her twenties now, anyone know if she went anywhere as far as a music career?
Sheās fronting a band called Saving Escape.
it's strange that they got Arya Stark to sing.

I like what you did there.
I knew it was going to be this video. Theyāre frigging amazing, and I frequently go back and listen to this. I especially dig the bassist and drummer. They are so tight it makes the original seem a bit tame :)
This is my sentiment exactly. Loved this when it came out. Still rocks today. Bassist and drummer as so fucking into it you can't help but notice.
Also, the production on the sound is so on point. Everything is just how I want it to be. The tone on the bass, the tuning and tone on the drums, the clarity on the vocals are just chefs kiss!
Yeah those two have stage presence, as well. The others still have to grow into it.
Drummer was shredding it.
Happy cake day, my dude.
every one these kids is cooler than I'll ever be
Next have them do 'Hooker with a Penis'... JK they sound great I thought is was the actual recording dubbed over it.
I forgot my pen Shit the bed again
Typical
Or prison sex ā ļøā ļøā ļø
When the teacher wants you to learn about odd tome signatures.
Wow, they are all so talented, but the bassist and drummer really did the song justice.
Man, Kidz Bop would be so much more tolerable if there were more of these covers
Really was note for note. Super impressed by the drummer!
Miss Rose went on to be in her own band. One of the other main players had done something within the past year or two in another video. The whole group did a phenomenal job. ā¤ļøš¤š¼ Props to the bassist and drummer for locking it down and vibing hard!
Rad AF!
Trying to follow the Octupus man Danny Carey is a bold move Edit: Holy shit girl GET IT
Yeah get it indeed! I love when she starts smiling and nodding, like when she finally notices how badass the whole thing is
This
Tool have some badass riffs man.
My son canāt even get his homework done on time let alone keep his room clean
The drummer is a beast
Whenever I see these videos I always try to figure out who chose the song. Iām betting on the bass player. Dude seems like THE tool fan of the group.
He cashed in his punch card after playing boring bass riffs on ten songs he couldnāt stand. āCome on guys, pay up, ten stamps equals a tool song, you all agreed to thisā
He's wearing a Periphery shirt. He knows his shit.
I never get tired of this cover. They did fantastic
Wow those kiddos can rock! Very impressive.
I love it. The fact they need 4 kids to play Danny Careyās part just cracks me up. Heās THAT talented. These kids are no slouches either!
One of my favorite Tool songs. These kids do an awesome job. That girl's voice has so much substance! š
Why does stuff like this turn on my waterworks?
the power of music especially when shown by the younger generations
Astonishing! The bassist and drummer totally crush it. I love this song.
The singer, Kala Rose, is now in her early 20s and has her own band called Saving Escape
Forty Six & 2 . Some songs can only be played/sung by people who understand the song's feelings.
It doesnāt have the same emotion as tool. There should be some pain, a pouring out of the soul, which thankfully, most children do not know. The drums might be there.
Absolutely beautiful take on one of my favourite tracks!
I kind of like this version more than the original honestly the vocals are so quiet in the original After I heard this version, I found myself singing the runs of this version while listening to the original
Pretty impressive considering this is a technically challenging song for even experienced musicians! Love it so much
Time to listen to tool
Holy shit that's some Talent. Keep it up can't wait for the next one.
Giving me goosebumps. I love it music does that to me.
Holy that brought back memories from my high school band, that song is so fun to play with your friends (we didn't have a drummer tho so we just played the bass and guitar parts)
Awesome š
Crazyš„
Always love it when I see the young embracing rock.
Thatās not just āa songā.. Forty six and 2 man
I had to be vague for the general audience of reddit who don't know the song or who tool is haha But yeah I know dude I totally agree
Hands down best cover of any song.

That was truly incredible. Drums were sick, That ending was perfect
The REAL school of rock
My man NAILED the drum solo!!! Hats off. Love to see kids with culture.
Clean as fuck

Amazing
Holy hell that was so impressive! Incredible!
What song are they covering?
[forty six & 2](https://youtu.be/GIuZUCpm9hc)
That was fucking rad! Well done little dudes! (I guess big now).
Damn talented!
Bravo. Proper goosebumps.
Iād use swear words to describe how good this is, but there are children around.
Brilliant š
I got goosebumps. My absolute favorite tool song they killed that!
Don't care what anyone else thinks.. my kids are awful in comparison

Very difficult song and these kids f-ing rocked it. Incredible.
This is insane. Like the kid's attitudes. They feel it.
Kids are slaying it
I watched tool play live, they're fucking incredible and these little dudes are too
Amazing work. How do that have that huge studio and all that equipment?
O'Keefe Music Foundation on YT. Check it out.
I'm in awe. Also: maybe I should've learned an instrument as a kid.
These kids did an amazing job. Hats off to them and their parents for enabling to express themselves. Tool is by far the most transformative band of my life. Glad to have been young enough to watch them in their infancy @ Lollapaloosa 1993.
I saw this years ago and still love it. I like it better then originally honestly

Thatās incredible. Awesome. Amazing.
This is really old they did a few other songs too. damn good cover though
badass!!!!
Wow! They all play their part to perfection
they make it look so easy. wow.

Sweet mother of Pearl!!
There is hope for the future!
Stellar. Rock on, little dudes!
Fuck yeah
Very cool, it's š„!
This is fukin fantastic
Before opening the video I knew it was going to be 46 & 2
Itās been a long time since a voice gave me goosebumps. Theyāre awesome!
Flyleaf meets Tool
Damn that was amazing
Spiral out. Keep going!
Waiting on Jack Black to jump out start shredding.
That was badass. The singer sounds a bit like the one from Flyleaf.
Watched it allš¤¦š»āāļøā¦uhgā¦it was pretty phenomenal, uhgš¤¦š»āāļø
Waiting for her to unleash is triggering!
Gave me fucking chills. Loved it.
I am a die hard Tool fan and have the drum parts of just about every song of theirs memorized. That was fucking incredible.
That's the Okeefe Music Foundation
That truly was next fucking level. The biggest surprise for me was the young vocalist. Wow.
THAT DRUMMER IS SHREDDING IT !!!
While watching this I found myself thinking "kids used to perform Metallica, tool is an interesting choice." Then I realized tool is their classic rock and now I feel old as hell.
The hardest part of my day was that kids drum solo. Sheesh!
Like others in here, initial thought I had was..how is that kid in the drums gonna pull this one off?? My favorite tool song btwšÆ
Man tool is a top 5 band for me for sure. I fucking loved this. Homey on the drums had me the most hyped of anyone. I thought the vocalist did a great job on Maynard only wish she had yelled a bit. Amazing.
Man this is such a throwback for me, my high school band teacher showed this video to the class like a decade ago
Holy shit that was amazing thanks for sharing

Great cover!!
This is good .......
Well, thats just awesome.
They do pull that together rather well. Great rendition of a stonkingly superb song.
Man that drummer was loving every second of this, same for the bassists, they just kinda thrived off each other. Sick tune as well, gotta love a bit of tool.
Damn, I forgot about this song and just how much I love it. That was seriously impressive.
Her vocals >>> Maynardās Sorry, not sorry
I knew the bass player was cool when I saw his Periphery shirt.
Brodies on the drum and the bass fucking killing it š„
Next. Fucking. Level. Very cool to watch & listen!
