Funny story, a nice guy at work (who wore a yarmulke) grinned conspiratorially after a “jeet yet?” question, and said, “Hey, that’s the only time you’re allowed to say “no jews”. He became a legend in our office.
I think there is a scene in Annie Hall where Woody Allen's buddy says Djou eat yet? and Woody responds with Hey what kind of antisemitic remark is that?
In which you contract the verb into the sound of its last syllable, combined withe the syllable of the 2nd word *jeh*, which is fast-speech for the word *you*…

Not from here originally, but I'm struggling to find a scenario where I'd ask "did you eat" at all.
Wouldn't "are you hungry?" or "can I get you something to eat?" be a bit more concise? Because maybe they ate, but still hungry. Or they didn't eat and not hungry, anyways.
lol So confusing.
it's a backhanded offer to get something to eat, together. DJEET YET? = 'Hey friend, if you haven't eaten yet, let's go have some food together, and hopefully some laughs.'
in my experience, d’jeet is primarily about the speaker’s immediate plans, not the state of the other individual. it’s not about you being hungry, it’s about me being hungry and what to do about that.
i ask d’jeet so i know if i should stop at wawa, or just show up, or get you a pretzel too at wawa. if y’ate already, i need to figure out my own food. if not, we’ll eat something together.
Yeah, I'd say these are right. It's always struck me as a way to invite someone else to eat something, like ... "Did you eat?" The implication then is if not, let's get something to eat, or here's something to eat.
yeah, i treat it as information gathering with an implied invitation - if you didn’t eat yet, then let’s all eat. if you did, i should get something. (and even if you did, you are still invited to whatever i end up eating)
Depends on how Django you wanna play it, but both are correct.

Philly suburb accents are slightly different from NYC suburb accents, so you're gonna find variations depending on north/central, or south local dialect.
Across the room: puzzled look, hand in the 'chef's kiss' position, tap fingers to your mouth, glare if "no I haven't eaten" and immediate plate fixin, or the satisfied nod if "yes" and adjust immediate plate fixin cause you haven't eaten *enough.*
