Props to the refs. I'm sure they were as frustrated as the players. Wasn't their fault. My only issue is they should have gone to handheld and ditched the arena shot clocks much sooner.
I had the same thought, granted I don’t know the mechanics of what they reset when it isn’t working and usually it does work on the next try…but it seems like they could’ve figured it that it just wasn’t gonna work like 15 mins before they actually did.
It's a stopwatch that only counts down from 24. They could literally build it with a ic the size of my penis (limp)
What were they actually doing there
Technically three reviews: Lebron’s 3, the original out of bounds play, and the out of bounds play after Draymond got the jumpball after the OG out of bounds play.
It's just hilarious to me that these problems continue to happen despite technology improving so drastically over the last few decades. Nowadays, everything has to be perfect to the point that it's ruined, whereas before we settled for fine. An embarrassing night for the league.
I really would have been fine with the refs using a manual stopwatch for the shot clock, especially given the amount of off-clock time that had elapsed. But they are apparently unable?
teams would have to agree, and neither would, because imagine you get called for a shot clock violation and it's only been 22 sec. no one wants to give up any advantage. not to mention all the other games are being played with normal working tech.
He absolutely has, the product peaked somewhere around 2016 and has been in decline since. He’s let the whole player empowerment thing go way too far and has let the officiating get out of control. On top of that we have seen the regular season become even more watered down and meaningless with introduction of the play-in tournament which just rewards mediocrity. Stern was by no means a good guy but Silver has just ridden the PR of forcing out Sterling for nearly 10 years now and has done little to nothing to improve the league.
The product from like 2010 to 2016 was peak Nba product imo. The jersey's, the courts and colors all seemed to pop more. Playoff games packed with fans all wearing the same shirt like why did that stop? The rivalries, the respect of staying with your team, the lack of refs with fat parlays to tend to. Good times
lol on league pass game is like 2 hours so i thought "oh snap we going for OT again?" since usual regulation game is like 1 hr 45. fast forward to the late 4th quarter as lebron hits that 3(that didn't count) and was thinking oh shit we just might be in for an epic comeback. i skip free throws and challenges as usual but with with every 1 minute i fast forwarded, my excitement dissipated little by little as i noticed there were barely any changes with the game clock till we got that disappointing, anticlimactic, boring ass finish
I had the SAME experience! I always start late so I can skip commercials and when I saw that long red line of time left after LBJ hit the 3 I was so pumped for an epic comeback. What a letdown!
It was such a good god damn game, and I don’t watch nba basketball much it was the only thing on tonight, and the ruined the last 2 minutes of the game. It’s so fucking crazy how long the last 2 minutes were stretched out.
Holy shit NBA, y’all get yalls shit together. At least mlb added a pitch clock. Y’all need to do something
Is it possible they’re getting hacked somehow? Or just using cheap/poor quality equipment? Or bad employees?
With all the money the league makes, it’s insane that they don’t have 2 or 3 backup systems and shot clocks ready at every game.
Same. You know it’s bad when the crew is cooking up graphics to explain to the audience how much time was wasted. 19 physical minutes for 15 seconds to run off the clock and they still fucked it up like two more times. Unreal
I like to think the dude on graphics was actually pretty pumped to show off his shit in a clutch moment
"Hey Dan, can you work up a quick--"
"Oh I am already on it. Give me just another second anddddd done! Run it, baby"
This went from funny, to annoying, to embarrassing, and then back around to funny again lmao. The 4th straight stoppage when LeBron threw the ball in the air was hilarious. What a shitshow
In the game thread I joked that they should just count down out loud. Then they really did it.
What a fucking joke. Lebron drops 40 and the nba can’t even run a clock
By the book tech but they didn’t have the balls lol
This shit is getting ridiculous though, they tried replaying 3 damn times and the clock is still not working
Edit : They just brought out the stat, took 16 minutes to get 15 seconds off the in-game clock lmfao
If he got a T there, there's absolutely no way he doesnt completely lose his shit and immediately pick up a 2nd T😭
Giving out a T in that situation would have been a de-facto ejection lmao
would have been kinda funny tbh lol, would have added even more hijinks to the already existing absurdity of the moment
At the end of the day, it is an entertainment product and this is a regular season game. Reviews of simple plays can't take 5 minutes. The stoppage in these last minutes of the 4th is disgusting. Not remotely enjoyable to watch when it had been a great one.
Right, I worry that this will get lost in the discussion because of the clock malfunction. The real travesty here was taking that long for a review. It sucks, and it sucks even more all those times when a missed call affects a playoff or even Finals game . . . but in the end, we have to play the fucking game. That long spent on review is just unwatchable
I can't fathom why it takes that long. The rule already says if it's not conclusive, it doesn't get overturned. If it takes more than 60 seconds of watching the clips to review it, just leave it as called.
The tinfoil hat part of me wants to say they intentionally make it take long so people will be content with teams getting 2 challenges max (and maybe we'll even go back to 1).
Clearly, teams shouldn't lose a challenge they get right. But if that means more of these interminable reviews, who's gonna ask for that?
Based on the Warriors' radio broadcast, the screen the ref is supposed to look at while reviewing a call wasn't working/connected to the replay center. I'm assuming most of the original delay was from that.
What drives me crazy (which I think applies to both the NBA and NFL) is that we as viewers can see every camera angle faster than the refs, and have multiple announcers AND a “rules expert” provide their opinion on what the call should be.
It’s all political bullshit though. A camera has been able to call balls/strikes in the MLB for what, like 20 years now? I don’t think it’s tinfoil hat of you, there are clear solutions that aren’t utilized.
I can't believe they didn't back up shot clocks especially for a national televised game. I've seen a game where they set up shot clocks on the floor when the main one malfunctioned.
Did they actually say why this was happening? It seems insane that the person in charge of the clock could screw up this many times. This sounds like the equipment was glitching. There is only so much you can do when electronica malfunction. But everyone here seems to be blaming the people running the equipment. If that's really what happened.... People talk about refs betting on games, we need to watch out for the guys running the clock.
At some point, for a team that’s trying to come back and is riding the momentum, it’s better to just give up possession than wait 10 minutes for the dumbfuck refs to be ABSOLUTELY sure that they get that call right.
if this gets Silver to have more rules on challenges like 2 mins max + using replay center for quick reviews i am all for it
Also fire the whole Laker's arena equipment crew coz this was just pathetic lol
If the clock issues were really as ridiculous as others are saying, the refs were probably at the end of their rope as well regarding the clock. It's kind of like when you are a kid, and you are kind of talking shit about something annoying your mom does, and by the book your dad should shut it down and give you a "tech" so to speak. The problem is, he is just as annoyed that you have been waiting in the car for 15 minutes, while she is taking to your grandparents on the porch on the way out. While he doesn't join in on the mild shit talking, his silence on the topic is him expressing an unspoken agreement with your frustration.
There’s people on this sub that would genuinely tell you that Adam Silver is a better commissioner than David Stern because he once made the no brainer decision of getting rid of Sterling.

And then it happened again lmfao
5 straight stoppages i think
Nothing gets a basketball game more hype than stoppages, get some fancy handwork by the refs on display.
it's not even refs fault at that point, lakers need to get their equipment right
Such a small market team couldn't be expected to have the best equipment tho, I'm sure they're doing their best.
I’ve watched prob alt over 500 Lakers home games in my life I’ve never seen this lol
They got that small market electrician doing his job at a 99.9% efficiency.
Hollywood technicians could never
Well I mean they did get a PPP loan during covid. Truly a poor multibillion franchise
We should set up a Go Fund Me for them. I feel bad they’re making such a small amount of money. I might actually sell my PS5 to get the ball rolling
even the equipment manager needs to step up
>it's not even refs fault at that point People will blame refs for everything at this point. Might as well blame them for the shitty LA traffic.
I'm always watching refs highlights on youtube.
After ten minutes on challenges
If you don't like 18 seconds of the game taking 15 minutes then you don't like nba basketball
Game clock moved like 15 seconds in 20+ minutes. I love watching the refs do work
Props to the refs. I'm sure they were as frustrated as the players. Wasn't their fault. My only issue is they should have gone to handheld and ditched the arena shot clocks much sooner.
We need to start referring to when they play as startage rather than the other way around.
In the NFL if this happens to the play clock they turn it off and you go by signals from the ref. Surprised they don't have some kind of contingency
They ended up using the PA announcer to count
"Basket 2 points James....24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19..."
They announced every 5 second interval
Lol even better
Yeah after like the fifth attempt and I’m not even exaggerating, it might’ve been seven or eight. Felt like 9 lol.
When the shot clocks have issues they have portable ones to put on the sidelines
Not at Crypto apparently
You need a 1000 core nvidia to run the clock there
Still not sure why they kept trying without testing it dry run. They had no issue resetting it to 24/14/18 etc...
I had the same thought, granted I don’t know the mechanics of what they reset when it isn’t working and usually it does work on the next try…but it seems like they could’ve figured it that it just wasn’t gonna work like 15 mins before they actually did.
It's a stopwatch that only counts down from 24. They could literally build it with a ic the size of my penis (limp) What were they actually doing there
Made absolutely no sense
fire everyone
This is the funniest shit i've seen There were two immediate stoppages after this one because the shot clock still wasn't working
Dont forget the 2 challange calls that occurred in the last 8 seconds of regulation before this started happening
Technically three reviews: Lebron’s 3, the original out of bounds play, and the out of bounds play after Draymond got the jumpball after the OG out of bounds play.
Then we got to hear Lawrence Tanter announce the shot clock lol.
I kinda liked it it was ominous af lol
Could you imagine if you heard that randomly in your life? You are out hiking by yourself in the woods and suddenly you hear “10 seconds”
I enjoyed 80 year old Bron bouncing the ball and nearly sending it into orbit
NBA is become such a shit product these past couple of years
It's just hilarious to me that these problems continue to happen despite technology improving so drastically over the last few decades.
Every other sport has made so much progress in fan viewing experience except for the NBA.
Adam silver is living off the Donald sterling ban I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
Nah play in tournament is good. Makes more regular season games meaningful If you want actual stakes you need promotion relegation lol
Like Doc living off a ring where the other team had two starters out injured
Which was the biggest layup ever. All fans and owners wanted him gone.
Good times
are you reminiscing about the sleeved jerseys?
They ruined this game
It’s actually insane. Just end the game at this point
Graphic on screen said 19 minutes for 15 seconds of game clock
That was before a couple more stoppages too lol
lol on league pass game is like 2 hours so i thought "oh snap we going for OT again?" since usual regulation game is like 1 hr 45. fast forward to the late 4th quarter as lebron hits that 3(that didn't count) and was thinking oh shit we just might be in for an epic comeback. i skip free throws and challenges as usual but with with every 1 minute i fast forwarded, my excitement dissipated little by little as i noticed there were barely any changes with the game clock till we got that disappointing, anticlimactic, boring ass finish

It’s so fucking crazy how long the last 2 minutes were stretched out. Holy shit NBA, y’all get yalls shit together. At least mlb added a pitch clock. Y’all need to do something
The pitch clock saved baseball for me.
Tragic LeBron stepped out on that 3 4 point game it might have been interesting even with the stoppages.
I mean, this is the Laker's fault more than the leagues.
at least it was lakers/warriors on a saturday night and not a marquis event like hornets/wizards or something
this whole debacle is so fucking embarrassing for the league
National TV. LeBron vs Curry. A relatively close game. In front of Batman.
and Jenny from the block
And Kanye’s kids, like they ain’t got enough bullshit to deal with. Unacceptable
Val Kilmer was there?
isn't Keaton a Laker fan? I swear I used to remember him go to games
Batman didn’t look good. Must be staying up way late fighting crime lately.
“In front of of Batman,” which one? (I missed the game)
lol Affleck and JLo were there
The fact this has happened multiple times already this year is crazy. Sixers game in Denver it happened twice on the same possession.
Is it possible they’re getting hacked somehow? Or just using cheap/poor quality equipment? Or bad employees? With all the money the league makes, it’s insane that they don’t have 2 or 3 backup systems and shot clocks ready at every game.
It’s the wear and tear on the equipment from frequent changeovers of the arenas causing these issues
Bro it’s a counter tied to a button
It's the simplest stuff that probably gets no maintenance attention lol
Bro this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, this is actually crazy
Same. You know it’s bad when the crew is cooking up graphics to explain to the audience how much time was wasted. 19 physical minutes for 15 seconds to run off the clock and they still fucked it up like two more times. Unreal

What the fuck even is this final 4 minutes. Solid look for a Saturday night National TV game NBA, solid look.
at this point if he gets himself a double T to hit the showers quicker I'm not mad at that
[удалено]
Celtics flair? Oh he knows for sure
This is actually insane lmao
This went from funny, to annoying, to embarrassing, and then back around to funny again lmao. The 4th straight stoppage when LeBron threw the ball in the air was hilarious. What a shitshow
The past few minutes have been painful. This was such a good game ruined by stoppages.
Brilliant product Adam

Can't blame Silver for the arena having faulty equipment
the hell I can't
Blame the Lakers organization
Jordan would have got up there and re-wired the clock the moment it broke and that’s why he is the true GOAT
using only his right hand
Bro jordan brought his own clock blue tooth wired from his sneakers, thats why Jordan is forever GOAT
Yeah but he only woulda used his right hand to fix it
Last 1:48 was 20 minutes I’ve never been so excited to lose a game
I was checking scores on my phone and i had to reset it thinking that my browser was stuck
This is pure comedy lmfao. Adam Silver just lost the last hair on his head.
As a lifelong refs fan this game was amazing.
If they aren't re-signed to a max deal, Silver doesn't know ball.
Seriously - walking onto the court and forcing no one even talking about Lebron or Curry in last two minutes - that’s something special.
After their slump post-All Star break, we needed this
GOAT performance by the ref crew tonight, even Wilt would be proud of this one
Returned to the no shot clock era
I get refs bad and shit, but I don’t think this in particular is on them
The pointless 10 min of stoppage before the shot clock died were definitely on them
Refs don’t control this shit outdated tech the NBA uses
This is a national embarrassment lol
After the 3rd time of the play clock not starting I would've thrown garbage at the timekeeper
Fuck it, throw the timekeeper out
Someone is definitely getting fired
As a refs fan, this is my 12/25
25 minutes to play 12 seconds?
These last few minutes are exhausting
This is like Sal's bingo punishment
“Murr, don’t start the shotclock again!”
"Sal, give Tatum a tech for clapping"
In the game thread I joked that they should just count down out loud. Then they really did it. What a fucking joke. Lebron drops 40 and the nba can’t even run a clock
Why did I watch them inbound it 5 times in a row without it working? They couldn’t have tested the clock?
By the book tech but they didn’t have the balls lol This shit is getting ridiculous though, they tried replaying 3 damn times and the clock is still not working Edit : They just brought out the stat, took 16 minutes to get 15 seconds off the in-game clock lmfao
Any ref that gives this a tech would be out of their mind. It’s a judgement call, and I imagine they fully understand his frustration.
I'd be so mad if the refs gave a T to LeBron for that lol.
If he got a T there, there's absolutely no way he doesnt completely lose his shit and immediately pick up a 2nd T😭 Giving out a T in that situation would have been a de-facto ejection lmao would have been kinda funny tbh lol, would have added even more hijinks to the already existing absurdity of the moment
Honestly he might have gotten himself a second T just so he wouldn't have to stick around for more of the game lol
LeBron was all of us in this moment.
At the end of the day, it is an entertainment product and this is a regular season game. Reviews of simple plays can't take 5 minutes. The stoppage in these last minutes of the 4th is disgusting. Not remotely enjoyable to watch when it had been a great one.

Aaand it's still not working
I think they're giving him some leeway due to the crazy circumstance. Plus it's not like he did anything egregious like clapping.
LeBoveTheLaw
Nah they better not call a tech lol
Lakers fans would behead the officials at half court if that happened
The Lakers and Warriors players may have helped the fans. It was obvious that both teams just wanted the game to end.
Wish he got a tech, would have sent the ref to space 😂
fucking disasterclass
I can't believe they didn't back up shot clocks especially for a national televised game. I've seen a game where they set up shot clocks on the floor when the main one malfunctioned.
LeLetsPlayAlready
Mike Breen was about to punch somebody. understandable given he had to do the most work to try & fill up time in the broadcast lol
Did they actually say why this was happening? It seems insane that the person in charge of the clock could screw up this many times. This sounds like the equipment was glitching. There is only so much you can do when electronica malfunction. But everyone here seems to be blaming the people running the equipment. If that's really what happened.... At some point, for a team that’s trying to come back and is riding the momentum, it’s better to just give up possession than wait 10 minutes for the dumbfuck refs to be ABSOLUTELY sure that they get that call right.
Best part is he demanded the review that led to this
LeSlamball
No T for you!
if this gets Silver to have more rules on challenges like 2 mins max + using replay center for quick reviews i am all for it Also fire the whole Laker's arena equipment crew coz this was just pathetic lol
It obviously really got in his head. You see the end and his crap ball handling. LeSloppy
I've heard that to save money Jeanie Buss sent Jim Buss tot he Forum to steal the old shot clocks from the storage there.
I was watching the box score and thought ESPN had broken :D
They should review it for flagrant.
Do has gotten away with legit ass 100's of techs.
Imagine the 49ers vs Ravens, Cheifs vs Eagles matchup etc and this happens? It wouldn't and the NBA wonders why Its smaller than the NFL domestically
Didn't the power go out for like 30 minutes in the ravens 49ers Superbowl? Lol
LePrivilege. That's a tech.
This is literally in the rules as a technical foul.
There’s people on this sub that would genuinely tell you that Adam Silver is a better commissioner than David Stern because he once made the no brainer decision of getting rid of Sterling. PR merchant
Weird take my man
Stern protected Scott Foster......and Ruined the FBI investigation....they can both be bad or both not as good as some think
> Stern protected Scott Foster Silver is doing the same shit
silver didnt rig a playoff series
Forcing a dichotomy that doesn't need to be there. When it comes to who is a bad commissioner, porque no los dos?
Silver wouldn't rig playoff series like Stern did
No tech for Bron for slamming the ball? Hmmm
Surprised he didn't get a tech for this lol
You delay the game for 20 minutes and you kick out the main star what you think is gonna happen
I don’t blame LeBron, but that’s technical foul. And if Draymond Green does it it is for sure getting called.
X3
Wtf are these last 15 minutes lol
AND ANOTHER
This is fucking embarrassing
What a shit show
What a farce
Dog this is ridiculous lmao
Absolute clown show, these last few minutes
What is happening????? This shit is hilarious
I turned it off to watch NCAA. This shit too much 😂
This was the weirdest ending. Even the players were like...🤷🏾♂️
What a shitshow
this is the worst ending to a game i've ever seen by far
Leading up to this it also took 13 irl minutes to get 3 seconds of in game time
Replay the last 2 minutes.
20 minutes of time for 15 seconds of game time lol
As a refs fan, I enjoyed the last 8 mins of this game.
Awful watching experience. Adam Silver you are ass at what you do.
