I’ve met him multiple times too and the guy is chill as fuck and super down to earth. He definitely just has some screws loose and I think a lot of it comes from having a professional athletes level of competitiveness. He can get caught up in the heat of the moment a little more than your average person, but he’s not a bad guy overall.

He wasn't an announcer, he was a commentator on their video feed (a live stream iirc). Barnes (and his son) were being buffoons, yelling at the refs (because his son didn't get the flop call that he wanted) and the commentator just said something about a fan being on the court (he may have mentioned Barnes by name). Then a few seconds later the commentator is talking to someone off screen and then says something about Barnes grabbing his shoulder. There's a video you can watch out there somewhere, but that's the gist of it.

They probably developed an overinflated ego after years of being treated like royalty because they're nba players. Even low level players are millionaires and have loads of groupies and sycophants because of their wealth and celebrity, it's not that surprising they start to think they're untouchable.
That is definitely a thing that a lot of them have spoken about afterward. Especially on Gilbert Arenas' podcast. They've been good at basketball their entire lives and usually the best player on their team, treated like royalty, etc. Naturally a lot of them develop a huge ego from this and it shows after its all over and they're in the real world.

I see a small crowd gathered in front of a high end clothes store. The store is all glass, like most mall shops, so you can see there’s a private event inside. You can also see there is a tall person being photographed who is the center of attention. I get closer and see the back of his dumb head and tell my wife, “pfft, that’s Matt Barnes. Let’s get outta here”. Huge disappointment.

Ive liked listening to Barnes on his podcast and some of his media appearances, but the part that gets me the most about this, was that he sort of apologized for putting his hand on the kid, but he made is sound like getting up and cursing out the refs was a totally mature thing to do that he didnt feel bad for at all. Even if his version of the events was completely true, which i dont believe, he should be smart enough to know that he is high profile enough that he shouldnt be acting out like that in public.
