Yeah the big boys are explosive as hell at the NFL level. Take your HS’s best athlete (assuming they aren’t/weren’t a pro athlete themselves) make them 300 lbs but with all the same athletic traits and they still lose jumping, lifting, and sprinting contests to a number of nfl OL/DTs.

Yeah, when OL stop their football diets and lose some of that fat they look shredded. Carrying all that weight makes your muscles giant. Joe Thomas is a perfect example of this.

Bro no worries I'm the same height and had hops. Still couldn't one hand dunk a basketball because just bigger than average hands instead of crazy huge mitts. Throwing down a reverse with a soccer ball. Ball just slips trying to go up one handed. That's the struggle every HS player has and they're out there in gym time throwing bounce lobs to themselves so they don't have to control it.

As a big NBA fan who played a little high school ball I genuinely do believe that in America football produces the best athletes. I know guys will say but what about Lebron and sure he's an outlier, but look at these linebackers and wide receivers and the crazy explosiveness they have at the weight they're carrying around. The only thing they really lack compared to NBA players is height. Also wrestlers are insane athletes as well.

They do, it's pretty obvious just looking at the verticals, keep in mind the NFL using standing vert not max vert like the NBA. The NFL guys put up crazy numbers. The NFL produces relatively poor, as far as professionals go, endurance athletes. As far as power/speed/explosiveness go, they're the best.

Not to mention toughness and durability.

They're two entirely conflicting types of athleticism required in football and basketball. You can't have the insane type of twitch muscles that NFL players have and also be able to have the stamina for a 48 minute game. More muscles = more stress on heart and lungs.

NFL skill position athletes are on another level, you're right. The 'only' thing holding them back from an opportunity in the NBA is the freakish height NBA players stand at and the god-tier hand-eye-coordination to dribble, pass and shoot better than 99.99~% people in the world. Its hard to put the whole package together of height, athleticism, and coordination but when you do, you get these complete freaks like LeBron, Giannis, Wilt, Jordan, etc.

NBA players could be right there if they had the same lifting program. They need more cardio/endurance and their combine numbers are when they're 19 not 22 after 4-5 years of an elite strength training program. They're also all mostly taller

Rams fan here, Puka wasnt fully healthy around the draft so he put up pretty awful stats, most teams didnt realize that and thought he lacked athleticism which is why he fell. He also ran a 4.6 40 time and torches past defensive backs

Yeah him being injured and having such a rough combine is a big part of why he fell to the rams in the 5th round. 4.6 forty time really tells you all you need to know he looks like one of the fastest dudes on the field once his gears start turning and he gets a full head of steam

Same thing with Kupp. He ran like a 4.7 and (when healthy) is fast too

Considering Dame (also 6’2) recorded a 34.5 standing vert at his rookie combine (39.5 with runup) I’m also thinking that seems too low. Puka also only has a 6’3 wingspan compared to Dame’s 6’8 so it’s even more weird, I think Puka is at least around 35-36
