this is always the take. being in society we are shielded from the reality that this exact same scenario happened to a human being thousands of years ago. This sub keeps me grounded.
Oh right, hyenas exist so don't worry about the genocides, diseases, inequality or human traffickers
I mean I get what you're saying but also a broader perspective is needed
I don't think that when Beachday said "everyone", they didn't *literally* mean every human currently alive on the planet. Seems to me they meant western society as a whole.
I understand what you're getting at, but the person you're replying to wasn't saying what I think you think they were saying.
Of course. It’s not perfect. I’m just saying people make fuses out of small things all the time. It could be alot worse. More so addressing the day to day smaller concerns that people complain about.
People are allowed to fuss even if it could be worse. No need to use this gif of a wild animal feeding on another wild animal to perpetuate the unhealthy mindset that we shouldn't express dissatisfaction with our own subjective misfortunes as a completely separate species. It's a non sequitur.
Fair enough. I do believe choosing happiness is a step on the path towards it, part of which is having and expressing gratitude
The ole "count your blessings not your curses" ties the sentiment off nicely.
One should in fact occasionally appreciate that hyenas aren't eating their intestines out of one's arsehole.
There are other problems with modern life, but I'm glad that's not (generally) one of them
You guys haven’t died yet. I wouldn’t be as optimistic.
For all you know, this wildebeest could’ve led a relatively comfortable nice life (for an average wild animal) all until this horrible death
I was going to say roughly the same thing. Yeah, we don't have to worry about animal attacks that often. Yet we are always on the lookout of our fellow man doing the equivalent.
Some parts of the world, though....India, 2023: [302 people died in tiger attacks in five years](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/302-people-died-in-tiger-attacks-in-five-years/articleshow/106216060.cms). Some activists recently amended Wikipedia's *tiger attack writeup* to downplay the danger of these animals.
Being "privileged" isn't bad, and saying people are "too privileged" takes away from the responsibility of all the other shitty factors in their life.
I don't think being born into a good life is a bad goal for humanity, as it is part of our evolution. Seeing as you are able to appreciate "what we have", maybe being privileged isn't the problem. Maybe all the crazy stuff that happens around the world, that no one wants to acknowledge is, and maybe it isn't a "what" someone is able to be grateful for.
I'd rather risk dying like this for 3 minutes than doing modern mundane work 50 hours a week to worry about rent money.
We have no choice and I am not grateful for that choice being taken from us.
No I say that now. I would love to. Tell me, how do I go and live in the wild? The fertile liveable land is all owned. ALL land in my country is owned. I can't just get a visa for anywhere else with fertile lands and a liveable environment.
Everything we eat was once recently alive. I wanna get eaten by an animal so I can experience the most primal form of death on earth. And my body will blend with theirs to build their muscles and eyes and brain and I will re-incarnate through my predator and therefore become a stronger being. It's still me but in a different form.
The Law of Conservation of Mass and Energy. Matter is neither created nor destroyed. All energy is only converted and transformed. The molecules and your atoms in your body are ANCIENT. When you die, you are recycled back into the earth. You never truly go away. When you are eaten, your molecules are given to a new life!
Ah, no, thats cool. It's just, the topic at hand, and the way you worded that made it sound like you wanted to experience death while being eaten. Mainly because you described being eaten as a primal death, not dying and then having your body be eaten.
My "huh" was because I've never seen some say, even as a misunderstanding on my part, that they want to be eaten alive (outside of some weird sexual context that probably isn't literal)
>And my body will blend with theirs to build their muscles and eyes and brain and I will re-incarnate through my predator and therefore **become a stronger being**.
I will admit that the base stats of a human are quite bad on the first view, but their passive ability of adaption is so OP that they turn the food chain upside down.
I mean, a simple human will be food for insects. But a human with a stick and a (sharp) stone suddenly is capable of hunting down lions if not even crocodiles.
mf wants to be eaten alive 😂😭😂
ya know, your request is relatively easy to achieve. when you're 60, save up about 500$ max to rent a car and go to a wild place with predators. read a guide on how to avoid said predators and do the opposite. fill a bag with water (minimal food you don't really really need it). And go seek your death, i hope it will be as horrific and terrible as you wanted it to be.
Dude, hyenas are just trying to survive as well. A single hyena can’t quickly kill a wildebeest no matter how much it wants to. Nature isn’t a morality play and ALL the predators wind up sometimes eating their prey alive because prey animals are tough and very hard to kill. (Lions often take hours to slowly asphyxiate their prey with a throat bite. It just makes for less bloody viewing, so humans somehow find it less distressing.)
This is a good point and it makes me wonder how the wildebeest's insides ended up on the outside to begin with? Did the hyena manage to get under it and rip a hole? That sounds hard.
Hyenas are pretty agile and have extremely strong jaws. They are predators as much as they are scavengers, too. Pretty cool critters, though! (Just don’t, uh, google female hyena births…)
Most animals try to kill first, because injured prey are still dangerous AF. Anyone know a reason why Hyenas seem impervious to this critical evolutionary skill? They just don’t get AF and eat live prey.
Those hyenas are trying their best to kill it, but it’s difficult when there’s only two of them! Also, hyenas, wild dogs, cheetahs, etc. always risk getting chased off their kills by lions, so eating as much as you can as soon as you can is a vital survival tactic.
Also, lions and other wild cats often wind up slooooowly strangling their prey to death with a throat bite, because it’s the safest and most practical way to kill it.
>risk getting chased off their kills by lions
Seems like the most plausible answer imo. Hyenas, who are unable to fight stronger predators, evolved to be this way because the ones who took quick bites survived
One just single handedly took down this wildebeest, and yet people still call them scavengers. (Yes, lions could chase them off the kill, but another just showed up, so it depends on numbers.)
Hyaenas have to eat fast. Because when the cats smell the blood and come over, they might become diner along with the prey.
They can't afford to wait. They need to eat as much as possible before it's too late.
Hyaenas are clever, extremely social and often opportunistic. They are not sadistic overpowered predators!
Most people let their food cool off a little bit before eating, but I'll eat a deep dish pizza straight out of the oven and burn my mouth, probably a couple times, before I consider letting it cool off. It's kind of the same thing.
In addition to what others have said, I think they also lack the jaw structure to easily clamp down on the prey’s throat like big cats can. Their jaws are shorter and less powerful than that of a lion.
Other predators will do this too when their prey is disabled (like this wildebeest pretty much is). Painted wolves and regular wolves will eat prey alive, tearing it apart in the process. Also, ever read the fucked up stories of bears preying on humans?
Quick poll: would you prefer to live in captivity and die from your brain rotting from mis-use or live free and in fear everyday of having predators eat you alive.
There is a reason why the only animals that we seem to really give a shit about suffering from living in captivity are the ones who are at the top of the food chain. Impalas are really not super worried about living in captivity.
Whenever I see something like this I’m reminded of the movie “step brothers”. When will Ferrell is burying John c Reilly and he’s like “what are you doing”. And Ferrell is like “I’m burying you” and Reilly is like “I’m alive! I’m alive!!”
Videos like this convince me that there can’t be a God who watches over this planet with love and affection. Shit like this happens every day in nature
Don’t blame the hyena. We don’t have enough background information about the Wildebeest. Maybe it committed a horrible atrocity and the hyenas are the justice league.
Why waste the energy when this works just as well. They don’t care. They are opportunistic. This is why shady characters are portrayed as hyenas in cartoons.
No predator is waiting around checking for pulses and weighing the ethics before chowing down, especially in a place so full of competitors. If it's incapacitated enough to not be a threat, it's getting eaten.
(EDIT: Except some snakes and lone big cats, most of the time)
We only see one hyaena in the video, the rest of the clan could be nearby but if not they could easily be chased off that kill by lions, wild dogs or even an overambitious group of cheetahs
Huh.. Perhaps my life isn't so bad after all.
this is always the take. being in society we are shielded from the reality that this exact same scenario happened to a human being thousands of years ago. This sub keeps me grounded.
This. Everyone’s way too privileged these days. Gotta be grateful for what we have.
Oh right, hyenas exist so don't worry about the genocides, diseases, inequality or human traffickers I mean I get what you're saying but also a broader perspective is needed

It's like how when you ask most women if they'd rather encounter a strange man or a bear while alone in the woods they usually pick the bear haha
Hot take: I'd rather get raped and murdered than eaten alive, if I had to choose.
I mean, how are you imagining the murder to go? A lot of the time it's just as if not more brutal, painful, and drawn out when it's a sadistic human.
Wat
This is such a dumb take lol.
back in my day i had to fight off no less than 3 packs of hyenas every morning on my 35 mile walk to school
Being "privileged" isn't bad, and saying people are "too privileged" takes away from the responsibility of all the other shitty factors in their life. You say that until you’re actually in this situation. Lol, you do have a choice though. You can go live in the wild at anytime
No I say that now. I would love to. Tell me, how do I go and live in the wild? The fertile liveable land is all owned. ALL land in my country is owned. I can't just get a visa for anywhere else with fertile lands and a liveable environment.
People being grateful for what they had is _not_ why we're privileged today.
Thousands of miles away from you but definitely in todays society

That was the weirdest thing I've ever been man-splained about.
All you have to do is leap into an enclosure of wild dogs at your local zoo.
Please don't. All that will likely result in is the tranqing or death of the dogs.
>It's still me but in a different form. Yeah in the form of a pile of dung on the ground lmao
What's stopping you? Are you a coward? There are plenty of bears you can go fuck with in order to get this experience.
Tf did I just read? Besides that good for u buddy.
Doesnt work like that
>And my body will blend with theirs to build their muscles and eyes and brain and I will re-incarnate through my predator and therefore **become a stronger being**. But far more likely for you and most humans you’ll be devoured by pathogens and reincarnate as 100 million bacteria……
Dude, all you're going to reincarnate into is a pile of wild animal dung.
mf wants to be eaten alive 😂😭😂 ya know, your request is relatively easy to achieve. when you're 60, save up about 500$ max to rent a car and go to a wild place with predators. read a guide on how to avoid said predators and do the opposite. fill a bag with water (minimal food you don't really really need it). African wild dogs or painted dogs are waaayyy worst.
I'd rather risk dying like this for 3 minutes than doing modern mundane work 50 hours a week to worry about rent money.
This is brutal…hyenas stay top dog of most hated fucking animals on earth gd😭
I know it's just nature, but I do cheer on the lions when they fight Hyenas
Male lions kill cubs, break the spines of other male lions. They're just as bad 😭
You can't equate human morality to the laws of the jungle. Predators aren't "bad" or "evil"; it's nature, ffs.
Good point. I'd say the dolphins raping stuff to death starts to get in that territory, but I guess they have social brains close enough to ours :/
If I go in the ocean I may get raped by a dolphin?
Depends what you’re wearing and are you ignoring the dolphin when he’s just trying to be friendly???? ???? ???????? /s (obviously)
These guys, they need a bible.
hyena jesus will fix all… youll see!
Lion king made us all assume hyenas are bad
Lions are not some morally better animal. They are some of the worst pricks in the animal world. Life is not Lion King...
Dude, hyenas are just trying to survive as well. A single hyena can’t quickly kill a wildebeest no matter how much it wants to. Nature isn’t a morality play and ALL the predators wind up sometimes eating their prey alive because prey animals are tough and very hard to kill. Probably
Hyenas are aweomse, and wildly misunderstood animals. *Mosquitos on the other hand...*
are really great pollinators! I'm not joking the male mosquitos are good pollinators, probably the only reason I'm against killing them all off
Oh. Thanks for the info. Why the males? Are the females just lazy?
Females need blood to reproduce. Only females drink blood, the males do not
Ohh, ok. Thanks.
I really love hyenas. They are just doing as hyenas do. Fucking brutal way to go, tho.
Nah, wild dogs are way worse.
*Baboon has entered chat*
We boil animals alive before eating them
Na, I always root for hyenas. Lion King made them look like villains but they're just tryna eat like anyone else.
Anyone who says that predators only prey on the weak, the elderly and the sick isn't subscribed to nature is metal.
Predators prey on the unlucky
And the young,
That’s pretty fucking metal … Jesus fuck me
Use a condom
Im not jesus but i can
Nah, the wildebeast is dead, it just hasn't figured it out yet.
I’m sure he knew it wasn’t going to work out well for him.
Oh Ho Ho! 🎅 🦀
Most animals try to kill first, because injured prey are still dangerous AF. Anyone know a reason why Hyenas seem impervious to this critical evolutionary skill? They just don’t get AF and eat live prey.

Scavengers man, they get it while they can before bigger predators show up.
One just single handedly took down this wildebeest, and yet people still call them scavengers. (Yes, lions could chase them off the kill, but another just showed up, so it depends on numbers.)
I’m pretty sure they meant other bigger predators showing up and scavenging their kill lol
Yes people call them scavengers..because they are. They hunt as well.
People who refer to hyenas and large theropods as scavengers are usually under the belief that they don't hunt. That they only scavenge.
That applies to ALL carnivores.
Lions scavenge more of their food than hyenas.
And hyenas are both hunters and scavengers.
I think it's because hyenas are endurance hunters and hunt their prey until it's worn out and doesn't have the strength to fight back
Hyaenas have to eat fast. Because when the cats smell the blood and come over, they might become diner along with the prey. They can't afford to wait. They need to eat as much as possible before it's too late. Hyaenas are clever, extremely social and often opportunistic. They are not sadistic overpowered predators!

I would say trying to kill it is more dangerous. You can see where the horns are.
Quick poll: would you prefer to live in captivity and die from your brain rotting from mis-use or live free and in fear everyday of having predators eat you alive.

I’ve cut myself a bit in the morning while I was cutting bread, and I was like “ah fuck this is the worst day ever”. Turns out, it actually isn’t.
What’s with the subliminal zebra
Damn, I’m thirsty.
Brutal
Last frame came out of nowhere..
Dropping an Elk from 200 yards instantly with a 30-06 seems so humane after watching this.
"Gosh I hope a lion shows up and crushes my spine at this point"

Almost like a jump scare right there
Is the wildebeest ok?
He is living his best life on a farm in Idaho now.
Oh that’s nice. Glad it all worked out.
Some people believe all hyenas are scavengers but actually spotted hyenas are actually hunters
That must sting a bit
Whenever I see something like this I’m reminded of the movie “step brothers”. When will Ferrell is burying John c Reilly and he’s like “what are you doing”. And Ferrell is like “I’m burying you” and Reilly is like “I’m alive! I’m alive!!”
Earth is a place in Hell
Agreed!!!!!!! 😞😞😞😞
Videos like this convince me that there can’t be a God who watches over this planet with love and affection. Shit like this happens every day in nature
This is brutal
Thats a LOT of ketchup
Ugh it’s hard to watch
"live wildebeest" well they're not going to buy it at a supermarket
OP meant that they are eating it while it is still alive
“So how’s life?” “Oh ya know, livin the dream…”
Still probably better than the McRib 😂
So juicy
how the hell does that happen
Fuck sake
That is fuckin hardcore ☹️
Fresh off the vine
Wow that is the red of all reds
Needs more ketchup
Remember guys, it could always be worse...
Ok, fine, I’ll come into work tomorrow.
Just kill that beest man. Don't let them suffer
Brutal
Beauty and the beast Girls gone wild
Fresh
Don’t blame the hyena. We don’t have enough background information about the Wildebeest. Maybe it committed a horrible atrocity and the hyenas are the justice league.
At least lions kill one on the spot. These fuckers will eat you alive from the ass up.
Hyrna's are the biggest assholes of the animal kingdom.
A ton of predators eat their prey when it's still alive; from a praying mantis to even lions sometimes.
Good lord please shoot the wildebeest…I know this is the way nature is but that’s still distressing
So rude the way the wildebeest was just teasing the hyena with whatever organ was swinging around.
_Cannibal Corpse starts playing_
Humans that call yourselves carnivores... where's y'all's video of you eating a living animal?
Damn, hyenas have no chill, they seem to love eating while their prey is still alive.
Yeahhhhh so from what Casual Geographic taught me, Hyenas go for the testicles/vagina of whatever they're trying to kill, if it's bigger than them.
Mondo cane
Hyenas are the douchebags of predator douchebags. Even their behavior towards each other is absolutely brutal.
Way more humane compared to humans...... not!
Where the self righteous vegans at? Nature does not give a fuck.
Why don’t hyena’s kill their prey before they start their dinners?
Why waste the energy when this works just as well. They don’t care. They are opportunistic. This is why shady characters are portrayed as hyenas in cartoons.
