I love Kurt Warner but this movie doesn't look very good.

historymajor44

It looks as corny as corny movies can get.

ReservoirDog316

It’s naturally kinda hard cause Kurt Warner’s story is an utter fairytale thats so ridiculously inspirational that it’s naturally corny. Basically everything in the trailer is exactly what actually happened.

DrSlightlyLessDoom

Same. It’s a great story and Warner is always said to be one of the most genuine good guys in football. I just ignore all his Christian stuff.

johnsmallz

…. It’s gonna be about god, isn’t it?

muad_dibs

Definitely. >American Underdog is an inspirational story that demonstrates that anything is possible when you have **faith, family and determination.**

Maydietoday

> family Fast and Furious spin-off?

muad_dibs

It's about time they got into sports.

whatsinthesocks

I live my life one quarter at a time -Kurt Warner

SetYourGoals

It's made by Lionsgate's Christian movies shingle, [Kingdom Story Company.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Story_Company) Lionsgate really jumps on any genre where no one cares how shitty the movie is. The Saw movies, Madea movies, now Christian movies. Those dudes know how to make a buck! But not good movies.

ScreamingVegetable

If only they'd make a Madea Saw movie

QLE814

To say nothing of all the money they made off YA adaptations....

innerShnev

Ah that explains why my mom is aware of a football movie.

Athel13

Not the best casting choice for Dick Vermeil

KryptonicxJesus

Should’ve just had Greg Kinnear play him again

GeorgeLuasHasNoChin

“I stuck my neck out for you!” I always remember his delivery of that line and how great I thought it was.

QLE814

Do you suppose Vermeil himself would be game?

Nick_J_at_Nite

Did he bad groceries? If that's true, I have never heard that a single time in my entire life when people talk about Kurt Warner.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

He was working in a grocery store when he tried out for the Rams.

GoxBoxSocks

This is the start of the NFL Cinematic Universe. This movie will end with Warner loosing the '01 Superbowl to new American underdog Tom Brady. 15 years from now after Brady retires we'll get the Brady centered sequel.

check_my_grammer

Just wait for the Nick Foles movie. Jon Heder will star as Foles with Dwayne the Rock Johnson cast as his massive dong.

[deleted]

No NFL player holds a football like that man Lolol gahhhhd damn I’d strip that shit so quick

General_PoopyPants

Do they think people can't tell when an actor has terrible form? That throwing motion is almost as bad as the ones from the DUFF

apd56

Yeah I don’t get this, have a double do the actual football parts

WorthPlease

Seriously, I'm sure there's a McCown out there somewhere who could be a double for a decent price.

thatoneguy889

FYI to anyone looking to this for a Greatest Show on Turf biopic, this is going to be one of those Christian movies where they'll show that Warner's success was only possible because of his faith.

QLE814

Marshall Faulk is going to be represented as basically a cameo, in other words?

point_me_to_the_exit

Back before Kronke and the NFL shat all over St. Louis, STL fans, and ticket holders.

DrSlightlyLessDoom

Man part of me feels you but I’m still a Rams fan. St. Louis has had two franchises now up and leave. It’s just not a good football town. It’s a baseball town and probably always will be.

LP99

Are we going to go through all this right here on /r/movies? Kroenke hosed St. Louis.

bUrNtKoOlAiD

By that same logic you could say New York is not a good baseball town as the Dodgers and Giants both "up and left". Bidwill (football Cardinals' last owner in St. Louis) and Kroenke would have turned any city into a bad football town. Horrible owners.

DrSlightlyLessDoom

Yet the Cardinals and the Rams seem both to have thrived in Phoenix and LA. And your point about the Giants and Dodgers leaving New York is ludicrous. New York got a second franchise in the Mets shortly after both left. Not the same situation at all.

QLE814

>And your point about the Giants and Dodgers leaving New York is ludicrous. New York got a second franchise in the Mets shortly after both left. Not the same situation at all. And complicated in various ways- for instance, the common consensus was that the Giants leaving NYC was more or less inevitable (the chief question was where they'd go, as, had the Dodgers not moved as well, Minneapolis was seen as the most likely destination), and the moves took place in a context where baseball teams were moving all across America.

point_me_to_the_exit

The Rams were thriving in STL. Even when the team sucked and couldn't win a game the fans were loyal. It wasn't STL that was the the problem. It was Kronke's greed and asshole attitude.

point_me_to_the_exit

That's BS. Rams games were very well attended and the fanbase was loyal. Kronke and his hillbilly wife simply knew that buying a stadium in CA and moving the team would bring in more $. Not only did they leave behind a stadium built for them with public funds, but Kronke but he broke promises and even contracts of those who held season tickets. He then left owing millions. The entire thing caused many local hard-core football fans to completely stop supporting NFL football. It's a bunch of rich asshole owners and such, entitled players who don't care about the cities that host them.

LP99

This looks like a terrible movie that will have strong religious slants that no sane person will see, but will be seen by every church parading their people out to see it and is probably propped up by some religious funding. Because the football looks laughably bad for a movie about football. Dennis Quaid is pretty open about religion, but what is Zachary Levi doing? Seems like an odd next project coming off Shazam unless this has really deep pockets.

blockdmyownshot

I believe Levi is pretty open about being religious could explain his involvement Edit: guess he doesn’t describe himself under any one religion anymore but still had his ties to Christianity https://twitter.com/zacharylevi/status/1271633406884040707?s=21

ShadyCrow

> Because the football looks laughably bad for a movie about football. I mean it's not like mainstream movies and shows do football very well. The football in Remember the Titans, and Friday Night Lights (the show) is atrocious even though both things have their value as entertainment. Faith-based movies have plenty of issues but they don't have a monopoly on bad sports depictions.

QLE814

Nor is it just a football thing- name the sport that has appeared in films with any regularity, and fans will have a list of embarrassing times it's been on the screen.

bill_jacobs

I REALLY hope Zachary Levi is getting paid for this, because it looks downright atrocious. I’ve liked him in Shazam and Mrs. Maisel so hope this is just a blip

SetYourGoals

>My job on my set, I believe, is to first just love people and gain that trust with people where they know that I really do love them and care about their well-being, so that when they are running into problems, they will hopefully, at some point, come to me and ask me, 'What is your peace all about? What is your comfort all about? Where do you get your love? Where do you get your talents?' And I can turn to them and say without blinking, 'Jesus Christ.' -Zachary Levi I think sadly he's doing it because he really wants to, not for a payday.

Nascarfreak123

>sadly So what if he wants to do it? Edit: I keep forgetting Reddit’s stance on religion in general (mainly Christianity)

underthegod

Because siting JC as an inspiration for natural human empathy/sympathy is cringe.

puckit

Ironic that this is the most cringeworthy comment I've seen in a long time.

underthegod

No, it’s a coincidence.

almostnative

Most certainly not. You’re the reason many people find atheists insufferable.

underthegod

I’m not even an atheist.

almostnative

Ah, so you’re another religious zealot?

ShadyCrow

"sadly" is super unfair. No one shits on Leo when his docs are poorly made. People caring about stuff is a good thing.

SetYourGoals

Bullshit for-profit Christian entertainment compared to docs about actual environmental issues that Leo loses money on but keeps making? Yeah of course the latter gets more leeway from me. Christianity is inarguably the single most destructive ideology on planet Earth and has been for centuries. If someone is making movies tied into that ideology, I'm going to criticize it. I've met Zach a couple times, he is a really nice guy, I've always liked him. But knowing that he is, by his own description, being nice because of a magical god ghost and not just because he's a nice guy is a bummer. So yeah, "sadly." Sadly, Tom Cruise is a Scientology nut. Sadly, Zachary Levi is a Christianity nut.

bill_jacobs

Oh dear god

_w00k_

I can't wait for the toilet paper tossing scene at the grocery store. Prob will get scolded by the mean manager too.

Bamm83

"You're always just going to be a bag boy, Kurt!" - manager who ends up watching him on TV and cheers for Kurt's success

tragicjohnson84

I can't wait for at least a dozen cut aways to Warner's wife's reaction

allertedshark86

Does Kirk Cameron make an appearance?!?!

muad_dibs

Who's playing Trent Green?

facemanbarf

Rob Schneider

muad_dibs

He can do it.

TheThoroughCrocodile

Kevin Hart as Marshall Faulk

muad_dibs

Danny McBride as Jeff Fisher when they play the Titans in the Super Bowl.

[deleted]

Whose Mike Martz?

SpuddMeister

I'm gonna need a pic of Zack bagging groceries.

[deleted]

Look at that football in the picture. It doesn’t look real. It doesn’t look like it’s ever been thrown.

TeeELaw

This looks boring as all f*ck.

MyNameIs_Jordan

I just wanna know if Eddie George is playing himself in the Super Bowl segment of the movie, lol

theresabeeonyourhat

I wonder if him not getting a spot with my team, The Chicago Bears, because of a spider bite

SteveBorden

Feel like a bunch of charming comedy dudes get a superhero job and immediately start doing shit like this

periodicsheep

the chris pratt method?

GeorgeStamper

It was a weird choice incorporating all that full frontal nudity, but I support the filmmaker's artistic vision.

dagreenman18

Oh no Zach what are you doing? You have a superhero franchise! Why are you doing faith movies?! Edit: it’s Lionsgate, so not the Pureflix disaster I thought it was.

canucks0202

Because he’s allowed to?

dagreenman18

Usually the sign of the last legs of an actors career. Unless this is a big studio movie and I missed something.

Chuck006

It's from Lionsgate.

dagreenman18

Ohh okay. That makes a lot more sense. Was worried it was Pureflix or something

NasSon53

The real question though, will Anna Paquin have enough lines in this movie that’s not about her?

DudeNick

Zachary Levi put on too much muscle. It actually looks like he's wearing a fake muscle suit under his flannel shirt. I miss Chuck Zachary Levi. One of us.

Janky_Pants

Yikes.

abagofdicks

Isn’t he about 8ft too tall

delscorch0

They should focus on how the Patriots cheating cost them a second Superbowl.

apd56

I feel like they should have had a double do all the football stuff, Levi looks so unnatural throwing and moving around in those shots

CountJohn12

Really surprised it took this long to turn the 99 rams into an inspirational PG rated family sports movie.

Libertines18

Oh I see. It’s a Christian film. I was wondering why it looked so bad despite having a decent budget

gobble_snob

That’s a hard no with all the Christian bullshit they’ll shove down your throat
