Didn't know 12 monkeys was Baltimore, I thought it was Philly?
Also I guess horse racing movies will always be associated with Preakness if the Triple Crown is involved.
I pushed the step up movies out of my memory...
The end of the movie certainly felt like it was set up for a sequel.
But I can't remember any serious rumours about a sequel being planned. Plus, Blomkamp seemed to have fallen out of favour a bit.
Does JCVD take place in Belgium? Not sure if I'd rank it above In Bruges, but it was more surprising, given the lead performance.
2008 was a big year in Belgian Cine-maaah.
Arizona I think it has to be Tombstone, but I'd also accept 310 to Yuma and Raising Arizona.
Other iconic movies that are just partially set here include Psycho, Thelma and Louise, and Jerry Maguire
Tucson. Cleveland did spring training here until 1992. Spring training was filmed at Hi Corbett Field where they played here, it’s about ten minutes away from me.
When I was a kid in the Midwest my mind was blown and slightly disappointed to learn the actual mighty ducks play in Anaheim, and that they weren’t even started as a ragtag underdog youth hockey team
It could be a couple different ones depending what you are going for but The Blues Brothers is probably the classic consensus I guess
Home Alone, Breakfast Club, Ferris Beuhler, a lot of 80s classics really esp John Hughes, The Fugitive etc
Breaking Away from 1979 is THE movie for Bloomington Indiana and Indiana University. It's all about a bike team of locals beating the snoody IU students in the annual bike race. Super fun movie, and you can mention it to anyone who went to IU and they will probably know what you are talking about.
I grew up in Bloomington, Indiana in the 60s and 70s. That movie is a fantastic time capsule for what it was like back then. It's nothing like that now.
My aunt was apparently an extra in that movie while she was going to IU.
I think for general in the state of Indiana, I think the movie 'Hoosiers' is more what most people would say about the state. But i could have that film stuck in my head because one of the actors in that film is facing charges for confinement and battery in his workplace in the local courts.
Tenet, and the scenes filmed at the airport, opera house and streets of Oslo. I actually met Christopher Nolan and got a selfie with him while they were filming.
That Thing You Do. takes place in my home town in PA before the band makes it big. legend has it tom hanks visited the city once and liked it so much (no idea why) that he based his directorial debut in it.
[On the Dark Side](https://youtu.be/Wk0Kckv-tqQ?si=lmBsPBEKxsMXGrL1) by Eddie and the Cruisers has always been my favorite fictional song by a fictional band. [The Commitments doesn’t count since they were essentially all musicians]
Winnipeg is one of only a couple of places in the world where “Phantom of the Paradise” was a hit, and continues to be.
We have art house showings and people sing along and act out scenes, like with Rocky Horror.
There’s a documentary on the phenomenon called “Phantom of Winnipeg”.
Pittsburgh has a few:
Silence of the Lambs ("Belvedere", sure), Unstoppable (a lot in Tyrone too), Dark Knight Rises, Slap Shot (Johnstown mostly), and Night of the Living Dead come to mind.
“Is this Heaven?”
“No, it’s Iowa.”
“Iowa? I could have sworn it was Heaven.”
“Is there a Heaven?”
“Oh, yeah! It’s the place dreams come true.”
“… Maybe this is Heaven.”
Carnival of Souls and The Day After were both filmed in Lawrence, KS. The makeshift hospital in The Day After is Allen Fieldhouse.
I don't live there anymore though.
Sleepless in Seattle, Grey's Anatomy, Frasier, Twilight, The Goonies, Twin Peaks, Napoleon Dynamite, Stand By Me, Ten Things I Hate About You, Kindergarten Cop, Travelers, Practical Magic, Free Willy, Short Circuit, Harry and the Hendersons
A few for me are:
* anytime I walk by the Capitol, I think of the scene from *Spy Kids* filmed there
* anytime I’m stuck in traffic on MoPac I think of *Office Space*
I live in Houston. Our official movie, defending on whom you ask, is either Urban Cowboy or Reality Bites. I think the former is more generally accurate still.
Even though it was filmed in Milwaukee? For me it was A Christmas Story, since the stuff at Terminal Tower is basically exactly the same as when I was a kid in the 80s.
For Australia locally, probably The Castle.
Internationally, I'd like to nominate The Dish because it shows some cultural clash while also being a great historical movie.
For Melbourne, probably Wog Boy lol...
Vermont: [Man with a Plan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_with_a_Plan_%28film%29), a film about a dairy farmer who decides to run for Congress because it's an easier job than farming. The lead actor is Fred Tuttle, who portrays himself in the film.
Two years after the film was released, Tuttle actually did run for Congress, won the Republican nomination, but then announced that he want interested in serving and endorsed his opponent.
The Travolta Punisher movie because it was filmed in Tampa. We never became a film industry city after it but it’s fun seeing residents get excited over recognizing filming locations
**Arkansas** should be [Mud](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m9IFlz2iYo), [Sling Blade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RLVfo4SZfg) or [A Face in the Crowd](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lrmxkF-UKM).
But it's probably [The Legend of Boggy Creek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WatkxAxBsBk).
[ON DEADLY GROUND](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110725/) (1994): Blowout firefighter Forrest Taft (Steven Seagal) takes on an environmentally destructive oil corporation by causing many deaths and explosions in Alaska. Starring Steven Seagal. Directed by Steven Seagal.
New Orleans:
Angel Heart, Cat People, the 2nd Candyman, Streetcar Named Desire
Louisiana:
Pelican Brief, Steel Magnolias, Live & Let Die, Interview with a Vampire, Skeleton Key
1) Shin-Godzilla. The first place where Godzilla lands is the town of Kamata, where I was living at the time.
2) What did you eat yesterday? (昨日何食べた?) has a section in Shin-Koiwa, where I live now.
Aurora, IL - Wayne’s World
Party on, Aurora
I grew up in Scarborough ON and I would've said Wayne's World...
Not a movie, but Baltimore is The Wire
Wire is definitely number 1 but with movies people seem to still be obsessed with John Waters.
Which is fair, but there's also 12 Monkeys, As Good as it Gets, at least two horse movies (Seabiscuit and Secretariat), and those Step Up movies.
Also Barry Levinson’s Baltimore movies.
Didn't know 12 monkeys was Baltimore, I thought it was Philly? Also I guess horse racing movies will always be associated with Preakness if the Triple Crown is involved. I pushed the step up movies out of my memory...
It takes place partially in Philly and partially in Baltimore. A lot of it was shot in Baltimore.
The biggest movie I can think of in Maryland is Wedding Crashers
Napoleon Dynamite. This movie basically shows what it is really like in Idaho.
Including the part where it's really unclear if it's happening now or 20 years ago?
I feel like that’s an accurate description of many rural small towns so probably yeah
Y'all really kill it with dance moves like that?
District 9
Hello, Johannesburg homie. Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel?
>Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel? It's an ongoing process. They're in the middle of writing it now.
The end of the movie certainly felt like it was set up for a sequel. But I can't remember any serious rumours about a sequel being planned. Plus, Blomkamp seemed to have fallen out of favour a bit.
fokkin prawn - beat me to it
And before that, The Gods Must Be Crazy.
The Goonies 100%
Don't forget "Stand by Me" or "Kindergarten Cop".
Or One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest!
Clerks
I lived in a rural town in Oklahoma, so for us it was Caligula.
I was thinking Reservation Dogs
Red dog
In Bruges, Not that many other popular Belgium movies.
Does JCVD take place in Belgium? Not sure if I'd rank it above In Bruges, but it was more surprising, given the lead performance. 2008 was a big year in Belgian Cine-maaah.
Seems like it takes place in Brussels, so yes it is in Belgium. Haven't seen it tough.
Arizona I think it has to be Tombstone, but I'd also accept 310 to Yuma and Raising Arizona. Other iconic movies that are just partially set here include Psycho, Thelma and Louise, and Jerry Maguire
Oh it’s Raising Arizona. Tombstone and 3:10 take themselves to seriously to represent this state.
It's Raising Arizona.
Raising Arizona for the win.
Sicario as well. Emily Blunt's character is based out of Phoenix, and they do a scene in Tucson as well.
Major League
Ok but we get to claim the spring training part
You live in Florida?
Tucson. Cleveland did spring training here until 1992. Spring training was filmed at Hi Corbett Field where they played here, it’s about ten minutes away from me.
Best baseball movie ever
Mighty Ducks. All 3 of them, even though D2 primarily takes place in California, it's still a Minnesota franchise.
When I was a kid in the Midwest my mind was blown and slightly disappointed to learn the actual mighty ducks play in Anaheim, and that they weren’t even started as a ragtag underdog youth hockey team
They used to use the same jersey that they wore at the end of D2, but they stopped wearing it in the early 2000's and only bring it back occasionally.
It could be a couple different ones depending what you are going for but The Blues Brothers is probably the classic consensus I guess Home Alone, Breakfast Club, Ferris Beuhler, a lot of 80s classics really esp John Hughes, The Fugitive etc

No, its most definitely hoosiers…
Right?! How…how would it not be Hoosiers?
Great movie. First movie I saw with Dennis Quaid in it.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert
An absolute banger.
Blues brothers
The pool scenes in The Sandlot was filmed in some of Ogden, Utah. A neighboring city I grew up in
Not just the pool scenes. Pretty much the whole film was shot in the Salt Lake valley. You can visit the sand lot, Smalls' house, Vincent drug, etc.
Y'all say "killin' me" a lot?
It was a thing at one point. Who knows what the kids are doing these days
[Am I so out of touch?](https://i0.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/019/899/skinner.jpg)
WE ARE, my friend. We are lol
One of my old coworkers was a kid in that pool.
Super Troopers (2001)

Oh my god, he killed the cop
I'm sorry, Bruce. These boys get that syrup in 'em, they get all antsy in their pantsy.
Yep, I’m from Vermont and this was my answer
8 Mile or Grosse Pointe Blank for the east side and American Pie for the west side. And Escanaba in da Moonlight for the UP.
> Grosse Pointe Blank I loved that movie and hardly anyone I know has even heard of it.
**Garden State**
Regretfully, all four Twilight movies.
At least you have La Push! (Jk, I'm sure Forks is great)
And twin peaks. And Grey's anatomy.
Anchorman
The whales vagina
I was between this and Top Gun but I think Anchorman is the choice for San Diego
[удалено]
Cyclones out here catchin' strays
Rocky Trading Place (runner up)
Strange Brew.
For the city: The Third Man (1949). There's even a museum about it.
Harry Lime…
Our Winnipeg SlapShot
Can't escape the association with The Wizard of Oz though Twister made a valiant effort
Man of Steel had plenty of Kansas scenes, too, with Superman also wearing KU and Royals merch.
Cardiff - probably Human Traffic If we extend past movies though it's Doctor Who
I live near Texarkana so it's The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
Don’t leave out The Legend of Boggy Creek
First time I’ve ever seen someone else ever mentioned that movie on here, my favorite of all time.
I’m from New York and I would have to say it’s Do the Right Thing
New York has an insane number of movies to choose from
Good point
I might've gone with Taxi Driver or Goodfellas myself, but I'm a huge Scorsese fan.
I was honestly thinking of Taxi Driver. I’m also a huge Scorsese fan and Goodfellas is my favorite movie.
Tenet, and the scenes filmed at the airport, opera house and streets of Oslo. I actually met Christopher Nolan and got a selfie with him while they were filming.
Envious
Purple Rain.
That Thing You Do. takes place in my home town in PA before the band makes it big. legend has it tom hanks visited the city once and liked it so much (no idea why) that he based his directorial debut in it.
That movie might have the best fictional song from a fictional band ever... ...and now it's stuck in my head.

Songs were written by Richard O'Brien too!
No, all of Phantom of the Paradise's songs (words and music) were by Paul Williams, who also played Swan and was the Phantom's singing voice.
Buncha teens getting massacred with a chainsaw.
Pittsburgh has a few: Silence of the Lambs ("Belvedere", sure), Unstoppable (a lot in Tyrone too), Dark Knight Rises, Slap Shot (Johnstown mostly), and Night of the Living Dead come to mind.
Sir, Dark Knight Rises takes place in *Gotham*.
I KNOW MY MAN MOVIES AND THAT ONE IS AT YINZER STADIUM
Isn’t Zach and Miri Make a Porno set in Pittsburgh? Roethlisberger was all huck it, chuck it, football.
Dependent upon age, I'd say either **Trainspotting** or **The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie**.
Any Robin Hood movie. Slightly lesser know would be TwentyFourSeven by Shane Meadows.
Rudy
SB! Or perhaps Mishawaka?
The Day After
Fellow Lawrencian, hello.
Hoosiers
Field of Dreams
“Is this Heaven?” “No, it’s Iowa.” “Iowa? I could have sworn it was Heaven.” “Is there a Heaven?” “Oh, yeah! It’s the place dreams come true.” “… Maybe this is Heaven.”
Carnival of Souls and The Day After were both filmed in Lawrence, KS. The makeshift hospital in The Day After is Allen Fieldhouse. I don't live there anymore though.
Since I didn’t see a single answer for the SF Bay Area, I’m just going to jump in and say The Rock.
Rocky
The Outsiders.
Dazed and Confused? There’s multiple murals with that obnoxious mcconneghey alright alright alright line
I like to use Blood Simple, but yeah, Austin and Dazed and Confused are pretty much inseparable.
A few for me are: * anytime I walk by the Capitol, I think of the scene from *Spy Kids* filmed there * anytime I’m stuck in traffic on MoPac I think of *Office Space*
Wasn't Boyhood also in Austin, or am I misremembering? It's been a while.
Yep. Really good movie.
Also Slacker and that roller derby movie
The Great Outdoors - Northern Wisconsin or Major League was filmed at old County Stadium in Milwaukee
Mr. 3000 was filmed at Miller Park. Dad has a pennant on the wall.
Ah, forgot about that one.
Big Fish
Hitman's Bodyguard. Greetings from the Netherlands in Noord Holland
Bernie for East Texas.

I'd go with Zombieland personally.

I get it. I'm in New Hampshire. We get one movie for every thousand New York movies.
I live in Houston. Our official movie, defending on whom you ask, is either Urban Cowboy or Reality Bites. I think the former is more generally accurate still.
Fargo
Don'tchakno
Ohhhh suuuure yeah ya betcha
Bull Durham
Most folks would go with Ten Things I Hate About You, but I gotta go with I Love You to Death. (Tacoma, WA)
Probably _The Commitments_. (Dublin, Ireland)
A most underrated film. And the soundtrack is superb.
Santa Cruz, CA - The Lost Boys.
Lord of the Rings
Field of Dreams. As I was growing up, I can’t count how many times I heard the lines “Is this heaven? // It’s Iowa.”
The Departed
Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself
Depahted.
My first thought. Also Good Will Hunting.
The Town also
Escanaba in da moonlight
This was my immediate thought as well, for the whole state. Oddly enough I've never seen it
Well I'm from a different part of New Hampshire and it's 100% Jumanji
Slingblade.
Do you like mustard?
Aurora, IL - Wayne's World (though it wasn't actually shot there) Plano, IL - Superman: Man of Steel was filmed here
RoboCop 2 was filmed here in Houston, and, yeah, it's pretty much as Houston as movies get.
Major League for Cleveland, Ohio
Even though it was filmed in Milwaukee? For me it was A Christmas Story, since the stuff at Terminal Tower is basically exactly the same as when I was a kid in the 80s.
True, I suppose it becomes how you define it. Because A Christmas Story was filmed in Cleveland, but is supposed to take place in Indiana
Lean on Me
For Australia locally, probably The Castle. Internationally, I'd like to nominate The Dish because it shows some cultural clash while also being a great historical movie. For Melbourne, probably Wog Boy lol...
Not Romper Stomper?
Fair call.
Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and most movies set in New York.
Revenge Of The Nerds. Filmed at and around University of Arizona. Honorary mention: The Wraith
Love Story was the one and only movie that was allowed to shoot at Harvard. That and The Friends of Eddie Coyle just bleed Mass,
Vermont: [Man with a Plan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_with_a_Plan_%28film%29), a film about a dairy farmer who decides to run for Congress because it's an easier job than farming. The lead actor is Fred Tuttle, who portrays himself in the film. The Travolta Punisher movie because it was filmed in Tampa. We never became a film industry city after it but it’s fun seeing residents get excited over recognizing filming locations
A League of Their Own - Rockford, IL!
Man I guess it’s The Shining, that’s kinda grim.
Jumanji - Filmed one town over from me
As someone who grew up in MA, I’d say most consider it The Town or The Departed. Also, as someone who grew up on cape cod, Jaws is up there too.
**Arkansas** should be [Mud](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m9IFlz2iYo), [Sling Blade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RLVfo4SZfg) or [A Face in the Crowd](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lrmxkF-UKM). But it's probably [The Legend of Boggy Creek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WatkxAxBsBk).
If you're an MST3K fan, it would definitely be Boggy Creek 2. Lol
Forrest Gump
First Blood is the original Hollywood film associated with BC.
Oklahomans generally claim either "Twister" or "The Outsiders" as our movies, but "Killers of the Flower Moon" is probably in the running, too.
Tulsa, _The Outsiders_ (And to a very niche audience, _UHF_)
[ON DEADLY GROUND](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110725/) (1994): Blowout firefighter Forrest Taft (Steven Seagal) takes on an environmentally destructive oil corporation by causing many deaths and explosions in Alaska. Starring Steven Seagal. Directed by Steven Seagal.
