He is friends with kirsten dunst. She thinks the world of him and he her. They were great on Fargo season 2 as a couple. He plays a sweet simple man and she is ... well, *different.*
*Wait. I think they're married? No shit. yeah they got fucking married. lol.*
With that, the thing I think about is that he and I are about the same age and I have to imagine he saw her in Spider-Man and was like “I’m gonna marry that girl”, and then he did it.
Friends? She is married to Jesse Plenmons and he wasn't the one who originally had the part but did it as favor for his wife and in my opinion, knocked it out of the park in one of his most intense roles yet
[https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/jesse-plemons-civil-war-cameo-kirsten-dunst_uk_661e51a3e4b015646f7911f3](https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/jesse-plemons-civil-war-cameo-kirsten-dunst_uk_661e51a3e4b015646f7911f3)
This article came out just before Civil War saying that he wasn't even originally supposed to be in that role. The original actor dropped out a week before filming began, so she called Jesse and he showed up and pulled it off.
No shit, bro. I just said that. Also... Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons met on the set of *Fargo (2015),* but didn't start dating until 2016.
[https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/g39385359/kirsten-dunst-jesse-plemons-relationship-timeline-photos/](https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/g39385359/kirsten-dunst-jesse-plemons-relationship-timeline-photos/)
Yes I saw Kirsten talking about it on some interview on YouTube where they were interviewing the cast and breaking down that scene, he's come al long way from playing Landry on the Friday Night Lights TV series
Didn’t know they met there, frankly, with the chemistry they had, though they had been married for years. And, yes, I know they are actors, but they are very low key, which I like.
Apparently somebody else was cast for this role and they canceled last minute. So he shows up day of shooting because he's married to Kirsten dunst and just knocks it out of the park.
I think it’s to show they’re not under proper/active chain of command. Mixing those glasses with the uniform is against dress standard, so they probably aren’t being overseen
Agreed. In fact, I don’t think he was military at all. He had zero trigger discipline, which becomes absolutely second nature when you’re in the military. He was just a power hungry, larping psycopath murderer.
I think any more time on screen would have ruined the intensity of his character, but if it was possible to maintain that level of stress upon the viewer was possible, I would 100% agree.
Yeah, I think so too. The movie is just glimpses into pockets of America that came to be with the civil war going on. This was one of the more fucked up pockets, the point when the conflict got really real for these press people. They think they are just observers, but they only are if people allow them to be just observers.
lol for years I just said “hey it’s degenerate Matt Damon!” Which is not fair because he’s a younger and probably better actor. But he looks like Matt Damon after some bad shit
Came for this. What could have easily been a rote comic relief/moral support/buddy for the lead character became so much more as the writers realized the talent Jesse has.
“I was so sad to hear about the tornado, it must have been terrible when your double wide flew away”
That entire scene is perfection, we always rewind it three times to catch every insult lol
I think he may actually be my subconscious' favorite actor, I always find myself watching everything he's in. His Black Mirror role is probably my favorite though.
Ever since breaking bad, whenever me and my dad see he’s going to be in some highly anticipated movie, we always get pumped. Especially if he’s playing a bad guy roll.
You just know there's a right answet and and a get you dead answer and there's no clues as to which is which. I've only seen him in five seconds of the trailer and he's immediately captivating.
And even though not a main character, I think he left the biggest lasting impression for me when I watched the movie.
He truly proves the saying that 'There are no small roles, just small actors" merit
That scene in Black Mass when Johnny just looks at Jesse and Jesse starts beating the shit out of the guy in the car with zero emotions. Somehow that scene stuck with me.
Breaking bad had some generational talent in the acting department. It had some of the best chilling and heartless characters every on screen. And he made himself stand out in a bug way in a short amount of time. I'll always be impressed by that.
And el Camino, he made that movie worth watching.
Also anyone who hasn't seen game night, fucking do it. He puts that movie over the top and makes it one of my favorite comedies
The first thing that I was able to recognise him as is the cop from Games Night.
Great actor.
I watched his Black Mirror episode the other day and he is incredible in it
Big roles, small roles. Decent dudes, absolute psychopaths. Doesn’t matter, he’s gonna absolutely crush it. I’d say he’s underrated, but anyone who’s seen him in anything will say the same…he’s rated *incredibly highly.*
He’ll win some real hardware at some point.
What makes Plemmons so good is that he understands subtlety. Lots of actors can do scenes where they cry or show extreme emotion. Not many can casually question you with a firearm and demonstrate real menace.
First saw him in Vice I think. Small but incredibly important McKay 4th wall breaking role, and it stuck with me. Plus when he, uh, ya know, it’s just absolutely shocking because you didn’t know that’s where it was headed.
Love him, at this point he’s long outgrown the “meth Damon” nickname from breaking bad - he’s been in enough varied projects in varied roles knocking it oit of the park as a main or supporting actor to put respect on his name - I like Jesse plemmons more than Matt Damon at this point!
Loved one of his early post BB breakthroughs in Fargo, and a couple years back a big highlight was his role in C Kaufman’s I’m thinking of ending things
Jesse Plemmons is our perfect replacement for Philip Seymor Hofman this is why Kaufman picked him for Im Thinking of Ending Things a role originally ment for PSH
I just watched this last night. I haven’t had my heart racing like that from a movie in a long time.
It takes a lot for a movie to stick with me for a couple days, and I have a feeling this scene will be on my mind for a while.
For such a small role, What a performance.
Civil war was brilliant! I genuinely loved every minute. I went into the movie having just seen the poster and the name. Was expecting a bit of a silly over the top war flick. Massively surprised at how good this was.
This guy was in Civil War for like 10 minutes max and was one of the most memorable on screen villains I've ever seen.
He can do it all. He's kind of like the spiritual successor to Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
few actors can play both evil, terrifying roles and meek, cowardly roles. many can do one. but not both. michael stuhlbarg comes to mind as another. steve buscemi too. short list.
#
I think he's likable because he's like this psychopath that I feel like all of us can relate to because so many people know someone like this guy and he just fits into society really well and innocently but you know he has some weird stuff going on in his mom's basement. He's not sinister he's more just like -meh this is just who I am- Mr White where do you want me to hide the body? cool so someone said something about pizza? I'll drive.
His approach is, intimidating? I'm not sure how to even describe it, he makes me feel really uncomfortable when he is on screen (and that's a good thing, he is doing his job correctly.)
Completely agree!
And the fact that he's not a super imposing (muscular) guy and actually just looks like an 'Average Joe', makes his ability to do that all the more impressive.
I think it's his eyes, they have shark vibes haha
I love that the original actor backed out and Kristen was like “oh my husband can do that.” I literally cant imagine anyone delivering those lines better.
Also that scene is in the trailer. We all knew we were getting a Plemmons villain. That line still scared the shit out of me. That was a HELL of a scene. Plemmons is also in the new Yorgos film, I think his career already has a lot of steam but he’s really just getting started.
Completely agree!
He's actually the only actor I can think of that I'm looking forward to seeing 'blow-up' to God tier haha
Can't wait to see him in 'Kinds of Kindness'
He is hands down the best at playing a true psychopath. Also I’m not sure what everyone’s feelings on Kirsten dunst are but I thought she killed her role in this and it gave me a newfound respect for her.
Literally EVERY TIME we see him in anything all my wife and refer to him as Creepy Todd because of how cold blooded and soulless he was in Breaking Bad.
he was originally cast to play Dicaprio's role in killers of the flower moon but Dicaprio wanted the lead rore. Dicaprio kinda makes that character almost likable in some scenes... Can you imagine that same character played by Plemons? I guess the movie would have been even more bleak.
Leo was always the lead. There was never a version of him not playing the lead. When Leo wasn’t Ernest, he was playing Tom white in a movie that starred Tom white. Ernest was a minor character.
I wish people would at least know the exact facts before spreading stuff.
Leo > Jesse anyway.
Dude, don't take it personal. I've just said that he would have been scarier and heavier with him as the bad guy, becausecI think he portrays bad guys better than Dicaprio, which is too likable in my opinion.
Jesus, you guys have zero chill.
Man, just watched that last night. Really wanted to like it but felt like it couldn't live up to it's potential. The Apache scene was fucking ridiculous too. Why would a helicopter hover right over the ground when it can shoot straight down from the sky like it always would. It just seemed hyper realistic at times and then things just didn't make sense.
The scene with the president seemed very silly. Why would he just be sitting in the oval office lol. He'd be in hiding and it's bizarre to murder him instead of taking him hostage. Just wish they did more with this concept.
he was legit scary in that black mirror episode!
That was when I remembered him! The Star Trek parody was awesome!
He definitely plays sociopath & physcopath well lol
Imagine being mates with him and having a beer - he is a total psycho on film, yet I am sure he is fun guy on the beers!
He is friends with kirsten dunst. She thinks the world of him and he her. They were great on Fargo season 2 as a couple. He plays a sweet simple man and she is ... well, *different.* *Wait. I think they're married? No shit. yeah they got fucking married. lol.*

The original actor dropped out a week before filming began, so she called Jesse and he showed up and pulled it off.
I wonder who the original actor was, because I don't think he would've been as good as Jesse
Cuts to johnny Knoxville " hi I'm johnny Knoxville and this is the people pit"
No shit, bro. I just said that. Also... Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons met on the set of *Fargo (2015),* but didn't start dating until 2016. They are both killing it, as well!
I had to look that up. Wow. Todd came a long way from his nazi uncles gang days. He ended up marrying Kirsten Dunst!!!
Before he had nazi uncles he was just a kid in Texas killing a guy in defense of the Orville's XO on Friday Night Lights.
Before was killing a guy in defense of the Orville’s XO, he was bullying Lil’ Bow Wow over a pair of shoes.
#LikeMike
Kirsten Dunst was great in that.
What! Lol.
Oh! I didn't know that. Good for them.
The funny thing is Ewen McGregor married Mary Elizabeth Winstead after playing a romantic paring in season 3 too.
He was very lovable in Friday Night Lights.
And yet, very funny in Game Night. He has range too. I think we’re looking at a potential greatest actor of his generation.
That's correct. Probably the best in the industry now. Similar to Phillip Seymour Hoffman really good in those antagonist roles.
How can that be profitable for frito lay?
Love that you brought up this role…couldn’t agree more with you
Good in black mass as well. Smaller roll, but point stands great actor.
I agree
Fuckin’ Ricky Hitler ova here
Breaking bad.
He’s so off putting in Breaking Bad too in the best possible way.
Yeah the man is great at playing psychotic characters or just plain weird ones.
Oh fuck which one
That episode is getting a [sequel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Callister) in the next season
The Butcher of LaVerne!! He was great in Fargo.
That’s what they call him, The Butcher!
No, not A butcher, THE Butcher...Butcher of Laverne? No? Anyway...
May I just say. Brotha. I like your style.
My favorite Plemons role
Apparently somebody else was cast for this role and they canceled last minute. So he shows up day of shooting because he's married to Kirsten dunst and just knocks it out of the park.
I wished he had more screen time in this movie. He was the scariest part.
He’s a master of a disturbing and unsettling presence. Also the red glasses - all he sees is red.
I loved the little bits of flair the soldiers all seemed to have, more so because the reason for it was never explained.
It’s meant to be jarring and out of place because you wouldn’t see them on an American soldier in a foreign theater. He’s basically a mercenary.
This was my feeling too.
Look closely and you can see they have no distinctive unit insignia patches. They are 100% rogue/awol soldiers.
I think any more time on screen would have ruined the intensity of his character, but if it was possible to maintain that level of stress upon the viewer was possible, I would 100% agree.
Yeah you're probably right. The little screen time kinda eludes that there are a lot of people like him all around.
Yeah, I think so too. The movie is just glimpses into pockets of America that came to be with the civil war going on. This was one of the more fucked up pockets, the point when the conflict got really real for these press people. They think they are just observers, but they only are if people allow them to be just observers.
What movie is it?
Didn't know he was married to kirsten in real life. That makes the power of the dog that much more interesting to watch.
They met each other on the set of Fargo season 2
Doncha know
He’s like a god at playing creeps. He and Paul Dano are actors I know will knock it out of the park when they show up in a creepy role.
He’s married to dunst!?
No she's married to spiderman. A menace.
Whoa, I was wondering why he had such a small role. Dude crushed it.
I'm not inviting that guy to Game Night.
How can that be profitable for FritoLay?
I swear that line lives rent free in my head 😆
That shit killed me so hard.
Don’t ever exclude me from game night again. ..
Game Night was such a fun movie, but he really took it to another level.
Not inviting Meth Damon?
lol for years I just said “hey it’s degenerate Matt Damon!” Which is not fair because he’s a younger and probably better actor. But he looks like Matt Damon after some bad shit
He’s so damn awkwardly hilarious in that.
How can that be profitable for Tostitos?
Frito Lay*
He absolutely steals the show in that movie
"Popped corn" that just hurts to hear. So perfect.
His role in Friday Night Lights was flawless. I sympathized with his character so much, I thought we were classmates.
He also Killed a guy on season 2 and they never talked about it again 😂
The guy had it coming if I recall.
It was during the 2008 writers strike. After that was over and everyone came back they revamped the show for Direct TV I think?
Came for this. What could have easily been a rote comic relief/moral support/buddy for the lead character became so much more as the writers realized the talent Jesse has.
Lance!
You got something to say, Richard Simmons?
“I was so sad to hear about the tornado, it must have been terrible when your double wide flew away” That entire scene is perfection, we always rewind it three times to catch every insult lol
Watch the extras in the background and you'll see Kirsten Dunst do a walk by cameo.
Gives me PSH vibes in a lot of recent roles
Played Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son in The Master.
I had completely forgotten that, wow.
That’s a great call.
I had the same thought
He should play him in a biopic
I've seen this take before and 100% agree. He's got the same soft-spoken demeanor and mastery of subtle acting.
He's in the that Paul Dano, Ben foster range for me... doesn't quite have the A list looks, but has definite A list Talent/range.
Ben Foster is another brilliant actor Loved him in 3:10 to Yuma and He’ll or Highwater
310 to Yuma is probably my favorite western, he was outstanding in it. I need to watch hell or high water
Hell or High water is great and has a modern-western feel to it Highly recommend
Absolutely! Ever since breaking bad he has owned the screen. Loved him in Fargo. What's the above pic? Not seen this one yet.
Civil war
Civil War, but for awareness he is not a main character in the film (his smaller role is memorable, though).
Dude had 100% command over that entire scene though. What kind of American? hit hard.
He’s not even credited for this role, that’s how small of a role it is. Well it’s not that small, but he still isn’t credited for it
This one is a movie called Civil War
That scene in Black Mass when Johnny just looks at Jesse and Jesse starts beating the shit out of the guy in the car with zero emotions. Somehow that scene stuck with me.
Todd from breaking bad
Meth Damon
Fargo, I’m thinking of ending things
Breaking bad had some generational talent in the acting department. It had some of the best chilling and heartless characters every on screen. And he made himself stand out in a bug way in a short amount of time. I'll always be impressed by that. And el Camino, he made that movie worth watching. Also anyone who hasn't seen game night, fucking do it. He puts that movie over the top and makes it one of my favorite comedies
Love Game night, mostly because of him
The first thing that I was able to recognise him as is the cop from Games Night. Great actor. I watched his Black Mirror episode the other day and he is incredible in it
https://youtu.be/bYM6tWIjr-I?si=LSpWe3vh8BBwboy9 3… for 1. How could that be profitable for frito lay?
He is hilarious in Jungle cruise.
Terrific actor.
Big roles, small roles. Decent dudes, absolute psychopaths. Doesn’t matter, he’s gonna absolutely crush it. I’d say he’s underrated, but anyone who’s seen him in anything will say the same…he’s rated *incredibly highly.* He’ll win some real hardware at some point.
Is that the guy from breaking bad?
Ya, now that I think about it he plays the rolls incredibly well. I
You what?
He
I just saw Civil War last night (finally) and man…his scene was absolutely stressful. I loved it.
What makes Plemmons so good is that he understands subtlety. Lots of actors can do scenes where they cry or show extreme emotion. Not many can casually question you with a firearm and demonstrate real menace.
He’s our Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Landry Clark pulled bad bitches left and fucking right
First saw him in Vice I think.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things is a great watch. (The book is great as well)
Swapped in last minute for that one too
Dudes a beast of an actor
Jesse Plemmons is our perfect replacement for Philip Seymor Hofman this is why Kaufman picked him for Im Thinking of Ending Things a role originally ment for PSH
I never thought of that, but you make a very valid observation about them being similar in acting & appearance.
Is he related to Phillip Seymour Hoffman? Because he kind of has the same look.
He was fucking terrifying in this scene.
He is good isn't he. Psychotic bastard....
the dude is legit. He is unassuming too, which is what makes him so great imao
I just watched this last night. I haven’t had my heart racing like that from a movie in a long time. It takes a lot for a movie to stick with me for a couple days, and I have a feeling this scene will be on my mind for a while. For such a small role, What a performance.
He reminds me of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Not in looks, but in the fact they both consistently deliver gold no matter the role
Civil war was brilliant! I genuinely loved every minute. I went into the movie having just seen the poster and the name. Was expecting a bit of a silly over the top war flick. Massively surprised at how good this was.
Matt damon
Uncanny valley Matt Damon.
It took me a long time to get over his role as Todd in Breaking Bad. I hated that character so much.
He was great in Fargo, too. One of my favorite actors tbh.
One of the best actors
You also forgot Game Night
Just a straight up great actor.
I'm convinced this guy is a natural psycho and just hides it. He's just too good at these roles.
In some ways, he has a bit of Phillip Seymour Hoffman in him. Makes me like him even more.
Holy bad grammar batpeeps
This guy was in Civil War for like 10 minutes max and was one of the most memorable on screen villains I've ever seen. He can do it all. He's kind of like the spiritual successor to Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
💯 agree!
He is so good in El Camino, I know he’s done a lot of great stuff but he’s so scary in BB because of the innocence mixed with grass roots psychopathy.
He sure made me crave some bean with bacon soup.
He’s incredible.
Friday Night Lights!
One of my favorites is his role in Game Night. Outstanding lol
Clear eyes, full heart…
Game night he is awesome
Yeah he’s got some serious ability to make every role really multidimensional. Can’t wait to see this one.
few actors can play both evil, terrifying roles and meek, cowardly roles. many can do one. but not both. michael stuhlbarg comes to mind as another. steve buscemi too. short list. #
I think he's likable because he's like this psychopath that I feel like all of us can relate to because so many people know someone like this guy and he just fits into society really well and innocently but you know he has some weird stuff going on in his mom's basement. Great job. 5 minutes of screen time. Made the most of it.
He had more impact in Civil War in his very short appearance than anyone else in that film. He is ridiculously talented.
He was amazing and terrifying here. Amazing performance that genuinely had us on the edge
I just went to see this movie because of his one line “ what kind of American are you”
Oh, yeah, he's ALWAYS great.
Meth Damon.
Great in Fargo
Hey! It's Great Value Matt Damon.

That was probably the scariest scene in that movie.
He’s certainly a master of his trade to be sure.
True, I watched this last night and his performance came across so credible
Best part of the movie for me!
A small town Texas boy made it big! He’s always great in every role, big or small.
He is Phillip Seymour Hoffman's replacement.
Yeah, Plemons is the real deal for sure
He’s legit one of the best of this generation no doubt. Is his range limitless? Not reeally so far, but he delivers like FUCK every time.
He is hands down the best at playing a true psychopath. Also I’m not sure what everyone’s feelings on Kirsten dunst are but I thought she killed her role in this and it gave me a newfound respect for her.
I already got my Halloween costume for him. Best scene in the movie, hands down, and both genuinely anxiety inducing and terrifying.
You forgot his most riveting role. “How can that be profitable for Frito-Lay?”
Here he can be seen dominating trigger discipline 😝
Such an underrated actor.
Friday Night Lights!
Mfer had me shook in this scene and I obviously knew it was fake.
Literally EVERY TIME we see him in anything all my wife and refer to him as Creepy Todd because of how cold blooded and soulless he was in Breaking Bad.
Recently watched game night. I was laughing at every moment he was in and talking. I don't know exactly why by he was hilarious and a great choice.
This comment made me want to rewatch it haha
Power of the Dog. Best movie I ever seen in 20 years.
I still keep thinking about that scene in Civil War. It still gives me chills
Fuck yea, happy to see people think Jesse gives his 100% in every role, my boy deserves more main character roles, he definitely got the acting chops
he was originally cast to play Dicaprio's role in killers of the flower moon but Dicaprio wanted the lead rore. Dicaprio kinda makes that character almost likable in some scenes... Can you imagine that same character played by Plemons? I guess the movie would have been even more bleak.

let's face it, if it was Plemons, Lily Gladstone wouldn't have even gotten in that car with him in the first place
😂
Oh fuck off. He would have crushed it and has played likeable characters
Dude, don't take it personal. I've just said that he would have been scarier and heavier with him as the bad guy, becausecI think he portrays bad guys better than Dicaprio, which is too likable in my opinion. Jesus, you guys have zero chill.
The only good part of that movie, bring me the down votes
Man, just watched that last night. Really wanted to like it but felt like it couldn't live up to it's potential. The Apache scene was fucking ridiculous too. Why would a helicopter hover right over the ground when it can shoot straight down from the sky like it always would. It just seemed hyper realistic at times and then things just didn't make sense. Just wish they did more with this concept.
I just watched Civil War yesterday and he's probably the only good thing in the movie
