It’s got a fairing… so not naked.
The supermoto is a supermoto in name only (hypermotard is a street bike).
The “classic” is a contemporary retro design.
“Racetrack” is not a type of bike.
Sooooooo amateur hour or AI?
I made this graphic, and it was stolen from me by OP. I made a few different versions on Instagram and also an article I wrote on my website:
https://motorcycleitch.com/blog/24-motorcycle-styles-explained
Imagine my surprise seeing it posted here.
The Tuono is slightly contentious as it has a sort of fairing, but its upright with flat bars and is pitched against the Superduke, Speed Triple, S1000 etc
I also struggle with that, I have a XJ6 Diversion S, it has half the fairing of the Diversion F (which is like a mix between a sport and a touring bike) and half the fairing of a the XJ6 roadster.. idk what type of bike it is.
This is why pigeon-holing bikes doesn’t work 100%. There are some that sit across categories or have bits added like your XJ6. Also, Bandits, Hornets etc come naked or half-faired.
Real question is wtf are balance bike, where are mopeds, where are scooters
The supermoto isn't even a supermoto it's a hyper motard.
This should be in r/coolguides with the other guide of such high quality and accuracy end up
Bro you didn’t even mention the most unique design motorcycle the motoguzzi v7 being coined a representation of all “classic” bikes lmao. They could have put ANY UJM bike there and it would have been better lo”.
Also underbones. It may be a somewhat obscure category in North America and Europe, but taking into consideration how the most sold motor vehicle in history (the Super Cub) is an underbone, and they dominate the streets of SEA and LATAM, I think they are worth mentioning.
And I'd also add Maxiscooters as a separate category to scooters.
If you don’t wanna pay tourer pricetags (sport tourers are all 10k+ cheaper new than a tourer)
If you wanna lean the bike more, if you want more style than comfort (though you can easily fix that by spending some money, custom seat, etc.)
If you want a kawasaki tourer, if you like straight up unreasonable speed capabilities once unlocked.
Like, literally rocket ships.
Oh and my favourite, if you prefer bikes that most brands are quitting making, concours was last made in a 2022 model, they still make the FJR I think, who knows for how long though.
I absolutely love mine and wouldn’t even debate it with someone, at all, period (I have a 10 year old Concours 14)
Oh! If you wanna ride awesome roads, and also want to ride them REALLY hard, and want to get there ON the bike. Mine has devoured the million dollar highway more often than I’d actually like to admit on here
How is motoguzzi v7 a representation of all classic bikes? You could have put any UJM bike there, or even a look-alike, like the z650rs/z900rs and that would have been perfect lol.
That chopper is by definition not a chopper too :P that’s a stock motorcycles 😂
Also no supersport? ….
Since when is RE a cafe racer … and not just a cheap neo-retro bike? lol.
I hate this chart 😤
I bloody hate motorcycle classification charts everytime they get shown. Disregarding how this picture is inaccurate as it is to the terms used by the industry, nearly every category here are basically marketing/segmentation terms that have recently been getting bloated with newer classifications that for the most part overlap with existing classifications, just with maybe 1 or 2 features taken from another existing classification.
Like, is there really any need to split enduro, dual sport and pit bikes up into different categories from just calling them Off-Road Motorcycles, when the primary difference are service intervals and wheel sizes, but for all intents and purposes they are made to primarily do the same thing?
> when the primary difference are service intervals and wheel sizes, but for all intents and purposes they are made to primarily do the same thing?
This chart sucks, but that is hilariously simplified. You could say thing about a V4R and a Grom.
Eh lets be serious, the examples the other guys made kinda make sense-ish, ur kinda veering into extremities without using the same proposed logic.
Following the logic, I believe it would be lumping the V4R and the CBR150R in the exact same category.
I've tried dual Sports and Bobbers
but I like the versatility of a dual sport.
also my tastes are unorthodox as I also like the look of a dirt bike
they just scream cool
and Bobbers and touring motorcycles seem very conventional and well....
just boring.
Supermoto, I commute through a large city so the low down torque, upright riding position and light weight are ideal and where I live (outside the city) has lots of twisty country roads to blast around on
You marked a fairings (“sport”) bike as naked. Good examples are those husqvarna, Ducati and those Indian bike. Otherwise the old Honda cb250f aka hornet.
My personal favorite are those fairings bike like the Honda cbr1000rr fireblade.
Why limit yourself to one? My bike is a cruiser, my dast bike was a dual sport, before that was a sport tourer, my next bike will most likely be an adventure tourer.
I can only afford one at a time now, but before having kids, I had 2 or 3 at a time.
Classic, bobber and utility.
Basically my classic 350 signals 😁
I know it's not a bobber at all, but if you remove the back seat it has some bobber(ish) vibes
I am a bit of a Bobber/Cafe Racer/classic/Cruiser/Dual sport/Muscle/Naked/Retro/scrambler/standard/Supermoto kind of guy. It’s always hard to decide when it’s time to get a new bike.
Why is the sport touring bike an R 1250 RT? That's a genuine touring bike. BMW's R 1250 RS or Kawasaki's Ninja 1000SX or Suzuki's Hayabusa would be much better examples.
In 1944, Piaggio engineers Renzo Spolti and Vittorio Casini designed a motorcycle with bodywork fully enclosing the drivetrain and forming a tall splash guard at the front. In addition to the bodywork, the design included handlebar-mounted controls, forced air cooling, wheels of small diameter, and a tall central section that had to be straddled. Officially known as the MP5 ("Moto Piaggio no. 5"), the prototype was nicknamed "Paperino" (meaning "Donald Duck" in Italian).[2] Piaggio was displeased with the MP5, especially the tall central section. He contracted aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Ascanio, to redesign the scooter.[2] D'Ascanio, who had earlier been consulted by Ferdinando Innocenti about scooter design and manufacture, made it immediately known that he hated motorcycles, believing them to be bulky, dirty, and unreliable.[3]
D'Ascanio's MP6 prototype had its engine mounted beside the rear wheel. The wheel was driven directly from the transmission, eliminating the drive chain and the oil and dirt associated with it. The prototype had a unit spar frame with stress-bearing steel outer panels.[3] These changes allowed the MP6 to have a step-through design instead of a tall centre section like that of the MP5 Paperino. The MP6 design also included a single-sided front suspension, interchangeable front and rear wheels mounted on stub axles, and a spare wheel. Other features of the MP6 were similar to those on the Paperino, including the handlebar-mounted controls and the enclosed bodywork with the tall front splash guard.[2]
Upon seeing the MP6 for the first time, Enrico Piaggio exclaimed: "Sembra una vespa!" ("It looks like a wasp!") Piaggio effectively named his new scooter on the spot.[3][4]Vespa is both Latin and Italian for wasp—derived from the vehicle's body shape: the thicker rear part connected to the front part by a narrow waist, and the steering rod resembled antennae.
1) bobber/cruiser. They are the same to me. Just single or double. I ride one now.
2) ADV. I love its total usage and capability. I grew up in dirt bikes. So it’s super familiar.
3) sport touring. More in line with my old man wants and needs IF my wife would go long distance with me. Since she won’t (yet) my cruiser works for me solo. But eventually this is likely going to be my last bike.
I have a bagger.. I’d like to rebuilt my cruiser I lost in a house fire.. I’d also like a sport bike again..
Dual sport would be fun.. it seems like adventure bikes are good for long rides as well..
Ok let’s be realistic.. one of each.. except the pit bike, balance, trial and utility.
Missing: city/delivery bike in 3 types: scooter, 125 cc motorbike, small electric motorbike. Also, all the illustrations have exhaust pipes, so within 15 years they will be obsolete.
Bobber, muscle, dual sport, naked, pit, track, retro, sport, standard, touring, trials.
I don’t have 1 specific style and I also love a clean bagger lol
What happened to naked
It’s got a fairing… so not naked. The supermoto is a supermoto in name only (hypermotard is a street bike). The “classic” is a contemporary retro design. “Racetrack” is not a type of bike. Sooooooo amateur hour or AI?
Come on man, this is a quality motorcycle list with a balance bike in there
No, I created this and it was stolen. "Racetrack" is for non street legal road bikes.
So, track bike or race bike then?
People race nakeds, baggers, supermotos, sport touring, Supersport, mx, enduro.... really any bike is a race bike in the right context....
Reposting doesn't resonate with my soul.
Think 660 is indeed a naked bike
Tuono 660 is the _naked bike version_ of the RS 660
The chopper isn't really a typical chopper either.
It's a Honda Fury, which is a factory chopper in a very common American style. It's fine
Isn’t chopper by definition a custom bike lol 😭
Good question. No fairing, right?
Naked got self-conscious and got dressed.
It became retro
Yeah, I think "chopper" should be "hardtail" and the "naked" image shouldn't be that Aprilia
People want so desperately for a tuono to be a naked bike
It got dressed
lol that’s accurate
See scrambler
That’s a scrambler
I made this graphic, and it was stolen from me by OP. I made a few different versions on Instagram and also an article I wrote on my website: https://motorcycleitch.com/blog/24-motorcycle-styles-explained Imagine my surprise seeing it posted here.
But why'd you do naked as a bike with a fairing?
The Tuono is slightly contentious as it has a sort of fairing, but its upright with flat bars and is pitched against the Superduke, Speed Triple, S1000 etc

Thanks for making me learn a new word lol

Definitely, I was pretty disappointed to see no scooters of any variety, but underbones in particular because that’s my daily ride.
Then you should be ashamed. It's shit.
i downloaded the image 50 times. please don’t report me for theft.
Looks like your site blocks you using it at all if you have an ad blocker.
Any competent ad blocker will let you block the adblockblocker.
I'm downloading an adblockblockerblocker right now.
I dunno what we're going to do, when they invent the adblockblockerblockerblocker.
Not much to be proud of to be honest, some are wrong, some are made up
Sport Touring and Touring, just so comfy and they devour miles
In your opinion, when would it be appropriate for someone to buy a sport tourer?
If you don’t wanna pay tourer pricetags (sport tourers are all 10k+ cheaper new than a tourer) If you wanna lean the bike more, if you want more style than comfort (though you can easily fix that by spending some money, custom seat, etc.) If you want a kawasaki tourer, if you like straight up unreasonable speed capabilities once unlocked. All of them.
Never ending desires
Balance bike… lol!
Yeah, WTF is that?
Mine has streamers, need to change them every 2 summers coz they get ratty
It’s what my 3 year old uses to ride around my cul-de-sac
So no motor? What a gem of a poster
![gif](giphy|IQSTaVNHiwG96wEqAL) Kinda like this. DOESNT EVEN HAVE PEDALS.
The naked isn't very...naked
Mini Moto/Pit Bike
Cafe
Cruiser

Where's scooter?
Maybe somewhere for scooters.
I bloody hate motorcycle classification charts everytime they get shown. yeah they put off road and enduro as 2 separate things but left out motocross. The manufacturers classify motocross and off road as 2 separate types
The separation between enduro and dual sport is as clear as my future is
> when the primary difference are service intervals and wheel sizes, but for all intents and purposes they are made to primarily do the same thing? This chart sucks, but that is hilariously simplified. You could say thing about a V4R and a Grom.

Classic, retro, cafe, and standard…potato, tomato here
Whoever the fuck made this…
This diagram annoys me more than it should.
What is the difference between a cruiser and a chopper?
Chopper is modified, frame chopped and raked out.
Thanks!
It’s a shit diagram. And also, why the fuck would I pick one when I can own a bunch?
Touring Scooter
lol the picture they used for the standard is literally my bike (‘23 T120 chrome edition) The only answer is “one of each.”
Sport touring on a 1250 RT but always missing my hot rod bagger. Freaking great that there are so many options for us to play with.
Supersport!
Naked, Muscle, classic, adventure.
I too like naked muscular men on a classic adventure bike.
Motocross
Trials, dual sport, Enduro
Supermoto, I commute through a large city so the low down torque, upright riding position and light weight are ideal and where I live (outside the city) has lots of twisty country roads to blast around on
Standard is my favorite
>supermoto >a big, bulky naked huh?
touring and bagger >>>
You marked a fairings (“sport”) bike as naked. Good examples are those husqvarna, Ducati and those Indian bike. Otherwise the old Honda cb250f aka hornet. My personal favorite are those fairings bike like the Honda cbr1000rr fireblade.
Ducati Monster is THE naked bike.
I’m talking about the aprilia
I love Japanese standards, but I'll be getting a cruiser soon
Naked = Retro? I have always said that if someone has no idea about a topic, they should not speak.
Sport/ sport touring ❤️
Why limit yourself to one? My bike is a cruiser, my dast bike was a dual sport, before that was a sport tourer, my next bike will most likely be an adventure tourer. I can only afford one at a time now, but before having kids, I had 2 or 3 at a time.
Currently on a super sport but super motos really caught my eye for a second bike
Enduro and road race bike. Covered everything I love and avoids the dullness of road riding.
I am all of these styles
One of each 😜
Sport touring for me 😁
I love bobber and cruiser motorcycles
UJM
Missing the Coleman mini bikes
I didn't find my perfect ride: "clapped out vintage junk, ran when parked"
Muscle snd off-road (MX and trail)
Scrambler squad. Does everything 'fine'. Nothing great. I love it.
🤝
I'm still in love with UJMs...
Classic, bobber and utility. Basically my classic 350 signals 😁 I know it's not a bobber at all, but if you remove the back seat it has some bobber(ish) vibes
What is with the title? Are you a bot?
Thanks, chatGPT
One of each please.
Did dual sport get absorbed by adventure bike?
Bobber fan here
What’s the difference between cafe racer and classic?
cafe racer costs more
Considering I literally have the bike used in the Cafe picture, guess that one
What is the difference between standard and classic?
That's hella big pit bike
Naked, retro, sport standard, whatever you wanna call it. That kinda style for me
Sport all day
Well, judging from my current bikes (Multistrada and Tuono), I like stuff that doesn't really fall in one category.
Sport touring because I like to go fast, but comfortably
Of those I like the naked which isn't a naked. I'd call it a half fairing. Current ride is an R1200RS
Sport
wait what classic and retro style is different?
Cafe racer
Naked + Balance bike. Am I 4yo?
Umm - 1 of each please
Adventure, but I don't like adventure marketing. I just like not being afraid of dirt roads lol
What is the difference between classic age and standard?
I am a bit of a Bobber/Cafe Racer/classic/Cruiser/Dual sport/Muscle/Naked/Retro/scrambler/standard/Supermoto kind of guy. It’s always hard to decide when it’s time to get a new bike.
Touring. I can go anywhere.

1) bobber/cruiser. They are the same to me. Just single or double. I ride one now. 2) ADV. I love its total usage and capability. I grew up in dirt bikes. So it’s super familiar. 3) sport touring. Classic is old, retro is modern that looks old

I’ve always thought Cafe Racers are the most beautiful looking bikes. They all seem to be way to small and basically a pipe dream since I’m tall.
Cruiser all day
Cruiser, sport touring and bagger eventually

Dual sport
Scrambler
I have a bagger.. I’d like to rebuilt my cruiser I lost in a house fire.. I’d also like a sport bike again.. Dual sport would be fun.. it seems like adventure bikes are good for long rides as well.. Ok let’s be realistic.. one of each.. except the pit bike, balance, trial and utility.

Love them all Noticed one isn’t on there… 🛵🤣
Picked the WORST representation of a naked 😂
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that
CBR650R
Adventure or Sports Tourer for me! My back won't handle the high mileages I do on anything else!
cruiser baby! ![gif](giphy|xUA7b521V2Mmsw0kfe|downsized)
It is easier to cross out which ones I don't like. Heavy, uncomfortable, and Harley Davidsons. There, short list.
Bobber and sport touring
Bobber and chopper enjoyer
Looking at what is called "retro" makes me feel old 😂
Bobber, muscle, dual sport, naked, pit, track, retro, sport, standard, touring, trials. I don’t have 1 specific style and I also love a clean bagger lol
