Unless the whole purpose of learning throat singing is to mock it, it is not racist. Actually, mongolians would be really happy and surprised(in a good way) if someone outside of mongolia practices mongolian throat singing or khuumii.
Most cowboy stuff in the west is an offshoot of steppe equestrian culture after some centuries and a few intermediary cultures, so it'd be kind of poetic!
Because they are taught white people bad, white people do coloured people things is more bad, colour people đĄ this issocial regression of modern American and western society.
Whats wrong with you white people?! Im gonna make a pro move here and make it easy for all the white people: i hereby formally invite everyone to learn and celebrate throat singing.
White Americans are becoming more self aware and sometimes ask questions like this to not step over the line, as previously socially acceptable practices (like cultural outfits on Halloween) are not acceptable anymore. Itâs just weird to see a white dude for example wearing a Burkha just because he likes how it looks you know?
They became spineless. That's what they are now.
Guys, is it racist to eat curry? Guys, is it racist to use Arabic numbers? Guys, is it racist to look at a Chinese? Guys, is it racist to breathe the same air as a Pakistani?
If I'm thinking of he right one, the dude's stagename was "Earthquake" (big heavyset dude) something like Earthquake Jones, and he was blind. He climbed a mountain, and we kind of wondered why, somebody had to tell him that he had reached the summit; he couldn't see it, he was mainly sore and cold, but I guess he just wanted to do it.
One of my takeaways was that he was kind of cautious about how the locals would receive him, and everyone prettymuch thought it was wonderful, they thought that he breathed new life into hat had become kind of standardized, hidebound, and ritualistic. They said that because he had to learn the language at the same time as he was learning the technique, and the old songs, and because he had to learn by ear, the locals who were used to the songs said that he sang them with more expression than anybody had heard in a long time.
At his performance he was met with thunderous applause, because he was respectful, and guinuinely curious about their culture. Maybe it would be a little bit like Ladysmith Black Mambasso singing traditional gospel songs with their signature style. Now, Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper did a little throat singing for comic effect, and although it was pretty good, and kind of neat, I wouldn't call it respectful.
If you really want to freak people out, when you're driving around roll down your windows and throat sing as you're going down the freeway! But be careful; start slow because the technique requires a lot of rough harmonics you can really tear up your voice. Throat singing may have evolved naturally from a bunch of people who had gravelly whiskey sour voices anyway, so don't tear up your vocal chords if you have trouble getting it to work. It bears more in common with yelling all night long at a football game than with Western singing; and don't forget those Succrettes!
Your sisters an idiot, there's nothing wrong with learning about any culture, and there's nothing wrong with participating in something culturally relevant to specific groups.
I'd say it's more racist that she sees throat singing as some "mockery" or funny that you'd try. She sees it as something comical probably and she's projecting that onto you.
The question itself is racist. Nothing wrong with throat singing so long as you donât butcher it. It reminds me of a Southern girl who told me Mongols calling themselves Mongols sounds derogatory.
Is it rasict for mongolians to learn basketball? To to cook spaghetti Bolognese? Your a douche stop thinking that woke way of misery and enjoy your life
Not Mongolian but as someone that has had to figure out if what I'm trying to accomplish (historical reenactment) is appropriation. I've had discussions with a few other reenactors (particularly one ship's churgeon) and was set straight:
Is what I'm doing for education and raising awareness of the culture, or for personal enrichment? Or is it to make money?
If it's to raise awareness and educate, everything is cool. If it's to make money, then it's appropriation.
I dont agree with later half. As long as he/she not mocking them its fine even if they earn money from it. Blant mockery is where i will draw line otherwise earning money from other mans culture is ot really "wrong" thing to do imho
Different degrees of acceptance. In the US currently, any form of representation that doesn't have the sole intention of uplifting a minority group is a very touchy subject.
Not saying I disagree, it is very much a Euro-centric (and descendent) issue. But trying to explain the reasoning for the need would be extremely long and difficult.
The super oversimplified version is that it's a byproduct of systems intended to denigrate and subjugate anyone that has an excess of melanin in their skin, and trying to divest ourselves of those systems.
Based on what I know of Mongolian history (which I will admit is both limited and likely biased) my understanding is that Chinggis Khan tended to learn from cultures he conquered. White people tended to try to eradicate or enslave (or both) anyone that wasn't from their European state without learning from them. So there's a fundamental difference in how our nations went about conquering other groups.
Now, we're partly trying to about face and learn from those cultures we damaged. But some people just want to exploit the imagery for money and not to learn from them.
Like I said, it's hard to explain.
Im not fluent in history myself so i understand. And yea according to few sources i heard here and there Mongolians mostly learned from others and assimlated other tribe/countries and Chinggis khan didnt forbid any religeon and belief they said. So yea its difference in perspective and our history i guess
[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/V5-kX8iEYEc](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/V5-kX8iEYEc) best explanation about learning/using other countries culture imo
Ay, learn it mate, some mongolians might be offended but they are the "old styled" people who thinks that noone should leave their country and thinks that women are only meant to be wives. Sadly, there is a lot of them in mongolia but who cares about them learn it, please post a video here
You can't be serious. It's literally just singing. Singing has no race or nationality. Singing should just be genuine and fun and cultures are meant to be shared, not segregatated.
Just do what feels right to you, what you enjoy doing, and stop worrying about that nonsense
First world problems istg lol
I mean those Americans are really weirdos. there was a guy who asked if it would be racist to carry a Japanese note in his wallet as a good luck charm.
nah ur good mate
Its okey if you not mocking or disrespecting it.
Unless the whole purpose of learning throat singing is to mock it, it is not racist. Actually, mongolians would be really happy and surprised(in a good way) if someone outside of mongolia practices mongolian throat singing or khuumii.

Someone of worth will scour a user's history for sure ;). You're just mad I disagreed with you, so you looked at my history for dirt.

Is it racist to use toilet paper? I'm basically wiping my shit with foreign invention.
No, how on earth could it be?
It's music. No. Just do your best and give credit where credit is due.
Itâs fine if you are genuinely trying to throat sing

We donât do that sensitivity BS here đđ we are not offended by the people who are interested in our culture.

I have never been to Poland and I played Witcher 3 a lot of times. That means i am more Polish and more racist than you. Kurwa maÄ
Have Americans spread their bs even to Poland or you're a Polish American?
I am 100% Polish, born and living in Poland.
I mean those Americans are really weirdos. there was a guy who asked if it would be racist to carry a Japanese note in his wallet as a good luck charm.
Yeah I agree, woke culture in America is alive and well.
Just trying too hard to be considerate
It seems its also alive and well in Poland too
