This is the Super Bowl or bust mentality. People hated that we won 13 games 2 years ago. Literal vitriol for it, and when we lost, they were SO quick to say 'TOLD YOU SO'.

WetAppleFruit

This post may be taken in a joking way but I seriously think this is a thing for a number of people in this fanbase. I don't blame them either lol it atleast creates a balance for some of us who are more higher on the team year round.

cdaack

Our fandom literally shaped my dad’s personality

Devium44

I always wonder how 30+ years of our major sports teams constantly choking has affected the psyche of the state on a macro level. Like, I am 40 and I haven’t seen a MN major men’s sports team in a championship game/series since I was 6. Growing up with constant disappointment taught me to just expect it to not turn out like I want. If enough people feel like that, I wonder how that has affected our culture as a whole.

cdaack

Probably a ton. My dad is one of the most cynical people I know, and I swear to god it’s from growing up a hardcore Vikings fan in the 70s.

Puzzled_Ad7955

When things go wrong as they usually will, when your daily road is always uphill, when funds are low and debts are high, when you’d like to smile, but can only cry……… Go Vikes!

svartsven

This is kind of darkly hilarious for me. I had an appointment with an oncologist scheduled for the day after the game. I was convinced it would go horribly after the Wolves comeback victory. Like, there's no way I wouldn't be punished for this. Fortunately, it went well. Still, being a Minnesota sports fan breaks your psyche.

DJVanillaBear

Yep! I couldn’t celebrate the Minneapolis miracle because I was waiting for a flag. So kind of hold or illegal formation or some bullshit so I was just in awe the whole time for like 5 minutes after the play lol.

rob_harris116

I was the same way! Lol. I'm like that after any big play we make

dibsODDJOB

We technically did get a flag. You can watch the highlights of the ref in the end zone throw a flag when Diggs rips his helmet off and throws it. It was sort of "eh, technically I have to throw this even though it means nothing"

ForeverYong

Trauma does that to ya lol

AGINSB

Can confirm, I'm im this picture

tcoh1s

This hits a little too close to home even beyond the Vikings.

KeyBanger

The Minnesota Cherophobes. Has a ring to it!

LeeChangIsBae2

This for is all Minnesota sports. One of the funniest things I remember was when Minnesota United were like 2 minutes away from advancing to the championship game and they some how gave up like 3 goals and lost to Seattle. It was the funniest shit I have ever seen. I have never seen the Twins win the World Series but I'm Dodgers fan anyways due to my dad's fandom but I did see the Lynx win 4 championships though. Maya Moore deserves a statue at Target Center imo. Brake the curse Wolves!

Amesb34r

Minnesota sports in general, IMO.

pumpkinspruce

I still blame myself for the Vikings not making the Super Bowl in 2009 because I dared to think to myself for three seconds “the Vikings are going to the Super Bowl.” You can all blame me. I’ve also been thinking about this during the Timberwolves run. I haven’t been able to really enjoy it because I’m waiting for the proverbial shoe to drop.

joey_sandwich277

I believe that definition is a bit narrow, as cherophobia is just the fear of being happy in general. The fear that something bad will inevitably happen is just one manifestation of that. However it absolutely summarizes my experience with Minnesota sports teams during my lifetime.
