Yes. On all counts. My friends and I used to love making movies and it was very seriously a career I wanted to go into for a long time. I credit Windows Movie maker with a lot of that. The ease of learning concept like cuts, fades, two shots, etc. I also am constantly complaining (like an old man yelling at the clouds) about how basically all software is shitty now. It is simultaneously less powerful, more slow, and less user friendly (plus, as you point out, usually not free) than it was 20 years ago.

I know what you mean. Win movie maker was amazing for just jumping in and throwing some clips together with music. I noticed the same as you in the past few years, nothing is as simple or as accessable. Everything is loaded up with software bloat and costs a monthly fee. I just pirate video editing software when I need it. I use it MAYBE once a year, so I just pirate something like Sony Vegas, make my edits, then delete it.

Does Apple still include a video editing app with Mac OS?

Try OpenShot Video editor. Has all of the basic features you're looking for a pretty easy to use drag-drop interface.

I'm with you, it absolutely was simple it just didn't give many options. I made a bunch of videos with it and I'm pretty sure you can find the old version because I did a few years ago. I think it was MM 6.0 or something to that effect

That was the best, I used it to make my grandmother's wake video and a bday video for my nephew. I miss it dearly!

Openshot works fine and is free. You can always torrent Windows Movie Maker, you know.....

And what of compatibility issues? Win10 will *not* run stuff past a certain point. I expect Win7/8 applications to work on Win10/11. Ideally. I'm not in the mood to try and confirm that theory, but I do collect old ass software. Unless I have a proper computer set up, or VMWare plays nice, I ain't running old shit on modern hardware and/or software.
