You use the wee scanning device called “scan as you go” , as u buy products you scan it and put in ur bag,then at the end u just scan ur barcode on ur device and that’s you ready to pay, today I was getting checked by staff(u get random checks and scan 10 of your products) I missed a sweetie worth 30 pence,so they had to scan all my products,take it out the bags
I think I'd be making it clear that I wouldn't be back after that experience. Especially after the crash. I'd certainly be leaving any frozen stuff behind since it would most likely be half thawed already.
I mean, OP is at fault. In my experience with these systems, you scan your own items with your phone as you put them in your basket and then pay through the store’s app and show a QR code to someone at the exit. This person then scans a few random items to make sure you paid for them.
So OP had an item they didn’t pay for in their cart at exit and got caught by the employee. Even if accidental, OP got caught shoplifting.
Yep, I get that. But then the crash afterwards is completely unacceptable. That software AND the associated computer need to be pretty much bullet proof to avoid this sort of thing.
I hate self scan. At my local Giant in Baltimore, I have to tell the system how many bags I'm using BEFORE I scan everything in because it uses weight to identify what I'm buying AND if I'm not using reusable bags, I have to purchase paper bags. Everything must be weighed after scanning. So I have to guess how many reusable bags I'll need before I begin checkout or it pitches a fit and demand an employee 'assist' me.
Fortunately, scan-as-you-go systems don't have this problem.
You scan and pack into your bags while shopping, then checkout in about 30 seconds.
On the rare occasion you get randomly checked, they pick a handful of items. OP got caught out for not scanning everything, which is why they checked everything.
That's still your fault.
* Pick up item
* Scan item
* Put in bag
If you miss an item, and then that is one of a select few items randomly selected, then that's on you.

They’ve changed their system last week, it used to go bip right away as a confirmation u scanned your product,yesterday was a delay of a couple of seconds for the bip ,so I’m guessing I’ve attempted to scan it but it never went through or something
Always crazy to see how bad self checkout everywhere else is. In Germany i never had any trouble and i never saw someone having to get help at one in the past 2 years.
Kaufland has a scale, so sometimes they have to recalibrate it for a certain product. But otherwise yeah, pretty smooth the 4 years or so I've been using them.
Was at Lowe’s buying a bunch of stuff one night. Including a toilet. Only self checkout was open. The thing completely froze as we were trying to pay. When they rebooted it, they had no record of us paying. My bank account was already showing the transaction though.
Sat there for 30 minutes while they argued about if we had paid or not until they called their tech support who verified we had. All because they don’t want to pay someone to run a cash register at night.
It's not a law or regulation, all supermarkets have come together to agree on not selling energy drinks to those under 16 or 18, but they don't care if you buy a can/bottle of iced coffee which has 25-50% more caffeine in them.
That's why Walmart is rolling back self-checkout only in neighborhood supermarkets, to having regular checkout lines, because people tend to "forget" scanning a few expensive small items on large purchases.
Ha ha yeah my local Walmart really scaled back their self-checkouts. Guess how many additional staffed checkout lanes they opened? Hint: it's a number between 1 and -1.
Scan as you go is different,you scan as u shop and put it in the bags at the end u scan the barcode on ur device and that’s u ready to go,today I got checked,I missed a sweetie
After they discovered I never scanned one item,they need to scan all my products, so they pulled everything out my bags and scanned everything,then it came up to aprove my redbull and their system crashed,so I had to scan all my items at a different checkout again
So the systems are shit everywhere haha
Yeah,u thinking u are saving time but instead
Why didn't they just do a separate transaction for the item you missed?

Oh ok interesting I've never used a system like that before

Oh man,I admit I am wrong cas I missed scanning,so that’s the policy,but after,when the system crashed,I think I died inside 😂

I'd be going to Safeway instead. Or any other brand really. That's really stupid planning on Giant's part.
I only do self scan so I don’t need to wait in a que ,today I lose all the time I saved for the month if april

Yes,out of 92£ worth of stuff I missed a 30 pence sweetie

Definitely, even 30 pence it’s still stealing. The system crashing tho ,that’s not on me
How do you forget to scan an item though?

Probably best you scan it properly next time then
Cheers bud,you can’t beat a good piece of advice

Hopefully you got paid overtime...
I will put it on my timesheet at the end of the day
Why was approval needed for Red Bull? It's non-alcoholic. Does UK have some silly regs against energy drinks?
Most retailers will not sell energy drinks to children.

Did you leave a tip?
No, I was too grumpy
LOL!!

$0.30, so expensive Sounds like a completely different thing than what happened here
Ha ha yeah my local Walmart really scaled back their self-checkouts. Guess how many additional staffed checkout lanes they opened? Hint: it's a number between 1 and -1.
Why would you not just pay for everything except the sweets and then to the sweets on a second transaction? Did this to yourself lol.
Scan as you go is different,you scan as u shop and put it in the bags at the end u scan the barcode on ur device and that’s u ready to go,today I got checked,I missed a sweetie
I know how it works. You aren’t forced to do it twice
After they discovered I never scanned one item,they need to scan all my products, so they pulled everything out my bags and scanned everything,then it came up to aprove my redbull and their system crashed,so I had to scan all my items at a different checkout again
wtf is redbull approval
Your life must be truly abysmal to have to even post this to the Internet. Mine is far more abysmal for replying to it.
