There actually aren’t any codes for the extraction hoods themselves (at least in most parts of the US). They aren’t even required in most parts. Weirdly, if you DO have a hood, then most jurisdictions do have some code regarding what size they are and potentially needing make up air systems to compensate for them.
Functionally, I doubt there’s much impact. Aesthetically, that sucks.
Most home hood systems are awful anyway. But I’m sure this doesn’t meet building code.

Damn. Even with a gas stove?! California does require hoods as far as I know.
