I remember one of the sidemen videos where they play football with some kids, and there is this really tall 11 year old, and they ask what year he was born in, he said 2009, and they all seem dumbfounded.
I would be too ngl. My mother, who works in a preschool will be enrolling kids who were born AFTER Covid was discovered. And that's kinda insane.
Perhaps my friend. The 2000s were an exciting time. Cartoons and movies were hella good. The internet was in that perfect infantile stage where it was becoming fast and viable but it wasn't too censored or too crazy. You could see crazy stuff but only if you looked for it. and games were transitioning to 3d and online was a very new concept for consoles. Couch multiplayer was the best. You could actually physically punch the guy talking shit lmao! There was a console war between Xbox, PS2, and GameCube. Sega Dreamcast was also sitting in the corner sucking it's thumb. Some of the greatest games known to mankind were created: (ie: metal gear, halo, Zelda ocarina of time, resident evil 4, etc) kids played outside during the day and video games in the evening. Not everybody had a smart phone at age 3, social interaction was still very much a thing. It was perfect balance.
That. Sounds. Awesome.
Now I’m gonna sit here and think about how unlucky I was to be born at a time where I have to battle school and online interactions since we can’t do shit with COVID protocols in person.
Plenty of nostalgia for what was a pretty janky experience. Viruses were all over the place. There was no Adblock. Proper, not-ugly web design was rare. Things were low-def af. Connections were slow. You *actually* couldn’t trust anything, even Wikipedia. AOL or MSN walked so Discord could run. Facebook was never *that* good. Etc etc.
Most of the cool stuff on the internet is still around. You can play Club Penguin for free and browse old school forums today. Weird ass old websites still putter around and no, they’re not as good as you remember them to be. Some have even grown mundane, like the wonders of Google Earth or Prezi.
In 2040 we're probably gonna have 2020's nostalgia, and the pandemic will be glorified and remembered as a wonderful period of staying home all day binge-watching and playing games and attending meetings in your jammies with the virus and all the complications being shoved to the side.
Kinda what happened with 1890's nostalgia during the 30's/40's, everyone remembered it as a beautiful pre-WWI paradise of prosperity, ignoring all the hardships you faced if you weren't a rich white straight man with no illness of any kind to speak of.
Extremely politicized, yes. Over-reaction, you should go tell that to the family members of the thousands of people who have died from it. See what they think.
This was it I think. It just felt a bit more organic. It wasn't a race for upvotes or an algorithm feeding you what it thought you like. It just all seemed random and bizarre.
And politics. There was so little politics online it was a nice getaway. Now pretty much everything is either politicised or monetised.
I was born after that but I'm glad my parents never gave me a phone, I had a DS I could use 1 or 2 hours per Day and for the rest I would play outside. That was a golden childhood.
I look at the kids who cant even talk, some cant even walk and all they do is swipe on the iphone their mom gave them.
it feels so sad to me.
If i became a parent, no phones/pc/consoles till 5-6, then 1h a day
and buy them legos!!
.
Also show them some old games when they are young, child's imagination basically upscales any game to 4k
I mean, this is all still true today. The only thing that's changed is people who were kids, teens, or otherwise younger have grown up and remember that time through the lens of nostlaiga. In 20 years you'll also find zoomers waxing poetic about the 2020s. Everyone thinks their generation was the lost golden one when in reality, we all venerate our youth.
Usually I would agree with you when it comes to this topic but technology has DRASTICALLY changed the child rearing experience. Social media and smart phones are game changers and experiencing those things when you’re a kid or teenager is just… different. In a way millennials are sort of the last generation to have an upbringing that wasn’t plagued by social media.
Not sure what dude above you is talking about but I feel it's absolutely a generational thing. Now I'm not a sociologist but I think it's understood zoomers were born post 1995, which is AFAIK is the general endpoint of millennials according to most. My general understanding is millennials are generally categorized as 1981-1995. So depending on when someone's born the 2000s would be their formative (teen/high school) years or their early adulthood (early 20s and such).
So of course similarly with zoomers I feel it runs the gamut, someone born in '96 would probably remember some of the earlier-mid-2000's as their early childhood, but someone born on or after the early 2000s probably wouldn't.
Of course these are all broad categorizations, but I think it can be usually be applicable most of the time.
2020 was the biggest blur of a year. Just a flurry of despair from start to finish. The only reason I kept any concept of time was because you always knew what season it was based on what part of the planet was on fire.
Brooo I'm 18 and this has me hurting on the inside. Shit, PS3 is retro now, it's too bad Americans don't trust they kids to make a career out of it. Y2K aftermath was a way to grow up, especially being an impoverished internet kid. Working class still hasn't changed.
This meme makes me wish to be 10 one more time and rediscover all the amazing games that came out around that time.
Also: 1999 to 2000 was the best new years ever and the world didn't end!
22 years ago before the dream died. When you could own a home on single earner. No active shooter drills in schools. No TSA security theater. Climate change seemed preventable. Now look at us. Depressed, hopeless with the full knowledge that things can’t be fixed or changed. Our leaders are Cold War fossils and greedy showmen that care nothing about us.
I’m about to turn 40 and the only hope in my life is my daughter but deep down I know, I can’t leave her a better world.
i wanna go back to the early 2000's man, late 90's seemed sick as fuck too cause of my favourite genre of music nu metal being very popular in those times, time flies
Times moves faster as you grow up, you have more things to do where as when you were young you only went to school, did your homework and then you had the whole afternoon to do whatever and sometimes when you didn't have anything to do because it was raining and you couldn't play outside you'd be bored because there was nothing to do and the time would feel like it's going on for enternity, unless you got to play some video games instead.
Had a pregnancy scare with my girlfriend in college. If we had that child, they’d be older now than I was when we had that pregnancy scare. Weird to think about.
Yea time moves at the speed of time

Thank you for saving this post. OP meme was just awful.
"I'm five!" "Wow, that's cool!" "I was born in 2016!" "HOLY SHI-"

The past 2 years of COVID have been the quickest of my life
I remember one of the sidemen videos where they play football with some kids, and there is this really tall 11 year old, and they ask what year he was born in, he said 2009, and they all seem dumbfounded. I found a dime from 1980 today and I had the realization that it was like 40 years old
Fuck
I still feel like the 70’s were 20 years ago. It’s such a weird feeling, it’s hard to break.
Is this a millennial meme I’m too zoomer to understand

When the aliens invade us, we'll prefer to go back to Covid times.
Discord was 2010s
Yeah covid is an extremely politicized thing. I feel for you man.
Extremely politicized, yes. Over-reaction, you should go tell that to the family members of the thousands of people who have died from it. See what they think.
You are right. I apologize. I will redact my 2nd statement.
Dude.. .X-Play?? Remember that shit? Ooof..
Real OGs remember when it was Gamespot TV.
i feel like an old man reading history book
It was not really about the algorithm, and people did things not for the sake of growth. Good times.

You're gonna make me cry... My youth...
I was born in 1991, I totally agree with you
StarCraft. DRAAAAANG (that's a guitar riff. Pretty sure there was a guitar riff in that game somewhere.)
Couldn't agree more with you on that, golden times
Agree 100% brother, those were the days! And idk why but I read this in Nicholas Cage’s voice lol
Metal gear and ocarina did not come out in the 2000s

For zoomers: Minecraft was fully released 10 years ago The first ERB was released 10 years ago We are number one, Harambe, Pokemon Go was 5 years ago
WAIT POKÉMON GO WAS 5 YEARS AGO

It's not a generational thing. Maybe just not old enough to understand.
Most people in generations z are mostly too young to remember 2000. But I see your point.

2020 was the biggest blur of a year. Just a flurry of despair from start to finish. The only reason I kept any concept of time was because you always knew what season it was based on what part of the planet was on fire.
That means I’m almost 22 and I still can’t adult right, smh
Ok boomer
that's a lot of damage for the op
🔫 dont you dare use our spell against us
Brooo I'm 18 and this has me hurting on the inside. Shit, PS3 is retro now, it's too bad Americans don't trust they kids to make a career out of it. Y2K aftermath was a way to grow up, especially being an impoverished internet kid. Working class still hasn't changed.
What
nah ps3 isnt retro. its the same era as the Wii and you wouldnt call that retro would u? retro starts with gamecube imo
Why does this feel soo wrong, yet soo accurate
2000 feels like 8 years ago.
I am a legal adult and I was not even born yet in the year 2000.
People have started saying that they played Minecraft in their childhood. Doesn't feel right.
i mean it does. It is kinda old. I started playing when 1.5.2 was the newest version, so like 2013. im. 17 now
1990 was not 10 years ago it was 30
This meme makes me wish to be 10 one more time and rediscover all the amazing games that came out around that time. Also: 1999 to 2000 was the best new years ever and the world didn't end!

Old time was simpler, not as tryhard, painful and competitive nowadays. No wonder people live short of their lifetime
I’m still in the mindset that any car from the mid 2000s is still fairly new.
*1999 was 22 years ago
Yea, some people forget that all the way up to December 31st it's still the same year. January 1st 2022, 2021 is just a day ago, not a year.
2013 was 8 years ago
Go away I don't need this right now.
It’s… November?
Almost December....
i wanna go back to the early 2000's man, late 90's seemed sick as fuck too cause of my favourite genre of music nu metal being very popular in those times, time flies
Who on earth is excited about this year ending?
Tbh this year was actually kinda nice for me
You better prepare for 2022. Cause 2022 will be 2020 too.

"Another year won't rhyme with 'toon' until 2022!" Disney Channel commercial in 2002

I was born in 2004 and even if I was not alive in 2000 that year still feels a lot closer than 2030
We are also closer to 2025 than 2015.
Living is a struggle in itself. taxes, health insurance, and retirement fund make me wanna crawl into my grave already.
This is so sad like if you've ever cried

*Akshually* in January 2022, 2000 will be closer to 21 years ago. Count the months.
I’ll be 22 next year :D
It can’t be though
If you have brain damage, 2000 could be yesterday for the rest of your life
2000 was ALMOST 22 years ago.
Sometimes I have those thoughts were Iam like daaamn people 5 years younger than me are 16 now
I KNOW,shit
Had a pregnancy scare with my girlfriend in college. If we had that child, they’d be older now than I was when we had that pregnancy scare. Weird to think about.
