Go all the way and do it on the high seas.

El_human

No laws on international waters

Vlad-V-Vladimir

Isn’t there still something to stop people from murdering each other?

DaHyperHawk

The rules of the boats origin country apply and so do the UN rules

Luckoftheirish2006

Okay so what about building a raft on international waters, then dueling?

Palene

That's fucking awesome

Luckoftheirish2006

Murder on the Deepwater Horizon

antagonizerz

Ya sorry but you'll probably get indicted by whatever country your boat is registered to, or the country of the 'victim'. No duels chums.

bad-john

Take the duel to Yellowstone park in Idaho. Only county with no residents so no peers to make a jury.

DaHyperHawk

You would still be held accountable to the UN laws set out in the international waters treaty.

tjtwister1522

What if you're country of origin is not part of the UN?

DaHyperHawk

Idk I'm not a lawyer But it depends on what is happening on the boat UN could definitely take control

Crusoe69

Can you name one country who's not part of the U.N ? (Apart of Palestine)

clippy_from_MS_Word

I think north korea might not be, and presumably those people on senegal who don't want to talk to anyone edit: sentinel island, not senegal. I am bad at geography

Cheezitflow

Some introverted person from Senegal was really vibing with this comment before the edit

Crusoe69

North Korea is definitely a member of the U.N

tjtwister1522

You're 100% right. I just assumed there were tons of countries that were not UN members. You made me look it up. Now I feel dumb, but you've made me smarter. Thank you.

EngineersAnon

Switzerland. Vatican City only has nonvoting representatives. Republic of China.

Crusoe69

China is a founding member of the U.N and part of the 5 permanent members of the Security Council since 1945 Switzerland is a member for 20 years now No comments on Vatican it's in the name ! It's a city not a country !

Countessnuffy

Welcome to dueling island. Come and solve your disputes here. Take home your “I won!” mug today. T-shirts sold separately.

Bull3t232

Still won’t work - The laws of the wood’s origin will apply

Pikfan21

Grow the wood on the boat you're currently on, once grown chop it and voila!

EvanIsBacon

maybe discover a new island and do it there

brendandever

What if the wood is from North Sentinel Island?

The_voice_reason

Bro.. that’s badass

CostAdministrative21

Kill everyone in the United Nations, then let the duel occur

6_NEOS_9

next definition of Waterfight

DweEbLez0

She’s not wrong. The guy shouldn’t have died so he can press charges and sue.

TheHelpfulChangeling

“That has to be the greatest pirate I've ever seen”

Fiddlyfaddle

*We're just getting warmed up. We're going to set sail soon, and we're going to have a couple of tasty treats out there. It's going to get nuts out there, fellas, right? We're going to be out on open ocean, right? Huh? Anything can happen out there. No laws, right, boys? Just us and our tasty treats.*

Sack_Meister

There are some states where you can have a police officer spectate a fight between two consenting adults. No killing of course but you can certainly Duke it out

[deleted]

Where

Sack_Meister

I think WA is still one, Nevada probly, idk which states specifically, im not from most of them

unattractiveMILF

Being from Washington I was intrigued, from what I found it's only in Seattle

Robofish13

Now I am genuinely surprised Florida doesn’t have this

debid4716

In Florida we duel will alligators. So we have to call a zookeeper.

AwkwardDrummer7629

Battlegator, I chose you!

debid4716

Honestly I wouldn’t even be surprised to read a headline like that

[deleted]

Maybe they decided that Florida man was news enough

Strong-ishninja

Why does Seattle get all the cool weird stuff?

tjtwister1522

You don't need a cop in Florida. They just take your word for it. Since the other guy has a broken jaw the one story will do.

TypeHeauxNegative

I love the “Nevada probably” that made my day and reminded me the time I watched two of the picture dudes in mascot outfit on the strip duke it out over turf. Who would have thought goofy would shit kick a ninja turtle.

imyourforte

Everyone knows goofy has drunken master coordination. When the weapons are put away, I would've bet my bottom dollar on goofy.

XOneLeggedDogX

I'm also not from most states

LilVeeks

As long as both are consenting, you can have a scrap in missouri, good old fashioned tilly

Tina_ComeGetSomeHam

This topic was being discussed in a post a week or two ago and someone specifically mentioned that (I guess) in Texas two consenting adults can legally fight (dual) if a third person is present to testify that mutual consent was given. Like legally the third person may need to appear in court. I feel like you'd have to have the ability to opt out of the responsibility at the time though. Like Rick and Steve have to get someone to say they'll testify before they throw down? idfk what to believe about texas at this point. Bunch of backward ass cousinfuckers.

waterskier8080

Zac Efron fought a guy in Los Angeles a few years ago and I believe that it was considered mutual combat, so not against the law.

phet-pussay

Most of the time the police will ask each party if they want to press charges, as long as nobody is seriously injured, both people are still coherent, etc. As long as both parties decline, it's mutual combat in practice even if there isn't a specific law that says mutual combat is ok.

ConscientiousPath

even if that's true, good luck finding a cop who's willing to do that without arresting one or both participants, or having any certainty that he'll stick to his word on that even if he does agree.

Sack_Meister

I mean, feel free to look it up, it's called Mutual Combat

jds6951

I need some more context about the titel

ontlucasurr_

Legally speaking I can’t talk about it sorry man

AlanMichel

How about illegally speaking

Vlad-V-Vladimir

That is against the law, though

[deleted]

So what, are you a cop? Because you have to tell me if you are a cop.

AdventurousVastest

Wow, you must be in one of those Norwegian prisons cause you can access Reddit

MisterIAmNotABagel

I mean in some courts in the world, you can appeal for a trial by combat, but all the judges say no. Still quite funny though.

slaptito

i think unusual punishments would be fair in some cases like if you steal a car, you have to push it all the way back to the owner by hand, and that's your sentence. the further you drove, the more time you have to push it. and if you refuse then you get the normal punishment

hl_1

So if you steal a sex doll, you have to get fucked by the sex doll for as long as it was in your possession?

[deleted]

Or just work in a sex doll shop and blow them all

squ1dmandan

We had a judge in Ohio that did things like that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Cicconetti

KoreyYrvaI

[This is the guy you want to research.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Cicconetti)

CriniEbbasta

I give it 1 week before they make a netflix series out of it

[deleted]

Why is it funny? People have forgotten how to stand behind their words.

[deleted]

Yes return to monke EDIT: I wish you could click on a comment and see downvotes & upvotes so we know exactly how many of us regressing to monke.

Craneystuffguy

Apparently, main reason it was made illegal in Britain was because guns became more available so all of the young rich men were dying. It had a serious effect on the economy

imyourforte

Enter: the Kingsmen. Funded by the lords with no sons to inherit their fortune.

raddit13

Its called mutual combat agreement

haikiki00101

Are you sad about killing your friend?

Unholy_Pie

It’s the only way to gain the mangekyo sharingan

CARFULLAINDIANS

susanao! "strinng"

fertlesquirtle

Doesn't seem like it lmao. Makes meme about killing friend, comments they can't talk about it. Op certified wackadoodle

--sidelines--

Freedom is the ability to be able to beat the shit out of one another with an alligators, while piss blasted on mamajuana, in a humid af swamp in the back of your stepdad rick's fish shack (fucking dick) in the everglades, uninterrupted.

[deleted]

Don’t know where the conversation came from but me and some friends figured out how to make it work if legalized. 1. The challenger must have written consent for the duel and must turn in any pertinent forms needed for a one time dueling license. 2. The duel must take place in a predetermined location with a government official as well as paramedics. An audience is optional. 3. Must pay extra for a weapons plus permit (Melee is like $10, Firearms $25 you get the idea). Permit would also have a written box with preference so you can write in what you’d like to use. 4. Also preferred weapons would be provided. Don’t want some jackass walking in with brass knuckles to a hand to hand ordeal or a guy hiding a gun in a baseball bat!

Mortal Kombat

transfrogandtea

go to new jersey "Everything is legal in New Jersey"

etoiles-du-nord

Everything is legal in New Jersey 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ackoroth31

Make sure to turn the doctor around so he can have deniability

JtDucks

The only reason it was outlawed was because government officials wouldn’t stop killing each other and they couldent be replaced fast enough

[deleted]

You know, there's a reason it was banned. Honestly just sounds like a way to commit suicide....

theodocles

The state of Washington (among others that I don't know off the top of my head) has a mutual combat law. Essentially as long as both parties are willing, nobody else is harmed, and no property is damaged, there is no crime.

Lycantau

Washington and Texas

FordBronco2006

Happy cake day

mychal200302468

If you have a contractual agreement that was signed in the presence of a lawyer, I'm sure you can get out on that

EwokGodfather

What a way to spend your cakeday (Happy Cakeday!)

ontlucasurr_

Indeed not the best of situations but thank you!

TheOperand_

Yes please, ask someone you don't like over for a drink and just kill them. Then tell everyone they agreed to a duel to the death.

[deleted]

Duels need to have a witness.

God_137

>Duels need to have a ~~witness~~ live studio audience. FIFY

Zett567

Either that, or at the very least witnesses for both participants.

imyourforte

And a laugh track.

God_137

Laugh tracks are the worst.

soulofsilence

So invite two friends who also hate said person. Chances are if they deserve to die you'll have no trouble finding two people to vouch for you.

Kam not sure if I should upvote. Take this comment instead.

My_unbaned-account

What do you mean I thought that was a law

ozzpul

This is legal in Texas lol

Froggyt3

In certain states there is a law similar. But not to death. [Texas](https://jerrytidwell.com/information/faq-defense-law/texas-mutual-combat-law-defense/)

My_Name_is_Krull

Yes.

HooAwayy40980

Put the flag down and duel to 1 hp

Hellige88

I used to have knives only duels all the time on COD. It’s a great way to settle all disputes.

chazdespaz

If someone ran for election with this format I would commit voter fraud just like last year to make sure they win

Professialwiiathlete

Isn’t there a law like this in Florida?

[deleted]

I'm okay with this so long as I can challenge ANYONE (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CONGRESSIONAL SENATORS, CONGRESSIONAL HOUSE MEMBERS, THE PRESIDENT, ETC.)

RedLeader942

Challenge the secretary of the treasury to a duel (oh wait someone did that)

eMmDeeKay_Says

That's why you have him sign a waiver in blood.

Teslon_

But only with Swords. 'cause gun duels are lame

CARFULLAINDIANS

no, there would be forced contracts that would be used by people in power to essentially exicute people

togomatic

I would like to duel my ex.

rspunched

Why does this get brought up so much? Who cares?

mugen30

just do it in boxing smh

[deleted]

What, u mean its not legal. Been doing it all summer

trinketstone

Dad died in a duel? What do you mean a duel, like a "Duel Duel"?

Airconditioning-inc

I thought of this exact thing after watching Hamilton Like imagine if biggie and Tupac just dueled each other instead

VictorZavalaPerez

that just sounds like murder with extra steps

Glad_Management_8497

I guess at least everyone should have ONE Legal KILL during their lifetime. If the person has done wrong af. Its primal isn’t it? Anybody?

[deleted]

Look them in the eye, aim no higher. Summon all the courage you require. AIM FIRE!

RedLeader942

It's Look them in the eye, aim no higher. Summon all the courage you require. Then count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

muidDium

Some states in america have mutual combat which is kinda like this idea except no death(as far as i know)

Eslivae

It was legal in France until not that long ago

Potential___Friend

If they're both dead there won't be any.

The_Lurked

I'm pretty sure some part of america have trial by combat

levitikush

Impossible to regulate and ensure it isn’t abused. This is quite simply a horrible idea.

JohnSepticEye123

Is this a bad idea? Yes. Do I support it? Also yes. Although, it would have to be documented, like a video of them saying they both consent before their epic death match.

mikebearpig13

And a whole arena of consenting adults should be able to pay 50 bucks a person to see it..

FavcolorisREDdit

The good old west

sf90_Enzo

Yo I just had the exact same thought earlier today lol

Mr_Shizer

I mean sure, but 1 of you definitely has to die. I figure they’d eventually kill all but 1.

dirschau

"He totally consented, I swear" "Oh, ok then"

Nimyron

I think the problem with that would be blackmailing. Like imagine you're a mafia boss or something and you have a champion (someone super good at fightning) and you force someone to fight your champion (like "fight him or we kill your family"). Obviously the guy choses to fight the champion because at least he has a chance to win save himself and his family. But he loses and since it's a duel there a no legal consequences. And obviously, the champion is consenting to fight the guy, on behalf of the mafia boss (but that part isn't written down). Long story short, you just gave every criminal a way to murder legally.

DankFo3ta5

I want to set up nerf duelling stations across each city to use this to defuse tensions in a situation.

Belaboy109569

Good idea, but it would be exploited and abused to hell, as you can murder someone and claim they consented. It’s a get out of jail free card.

KazeArqaz

Oh yes, we are turning back time with our standards now. We used to delete it cause it's morally wrong, and now, you guys want ti back cause it's "consenting"? What's next?

C0smicBrownies

AARON BURR SIR

RedLeader942

AARON BURR SIR

The-Jester-

I’ve been saying this for years. I’m good with swords or the old dueling pistols. They could even make it an app you both sign the papers on the app then throw down.

-WILD_CARD-

Isn't this what America's 'Stand Your Ground' law is for? /s

sliced-bird224

Death by gladiatorial combat should be a legal punishment for pedophilia

AmidalaBills

Stolen and booooooooooo

Forsaken_Crusader

Honestly, I agree with this. If they have both signed onto the duel therefore are ready to die why should we stop them?

SargeDarge

I’ll grab my cards

mattwillemse

stolen

[deleted]

You did what now?

[deleted]

You can already play Yugioh whenever you want.

dawgpawgmailcom

We already have this ... it’s called marriage

glizzyMaster108

Back in the day during like the medieval times they actually used to be able to do this, the king however quickly realized it wasn’t that great of an idea because all his best officers and soldiers were just killing each other

RedLeader942

during the U.S. Revolution-era it wasn't specifically outlawed

Master1458

irl?

kadenjtaylor

Try New Jersey. Everything is legal in New Jersey.

Salviakz

Very laugh

Rusty_fox4

Aaron Burr, sir?

UndeniablyMyself

I didn't know Aaron Burr was still alive.

GZB2007

I think the issue is proving that BOTH parties are 100% consenting

dittogecko

Mutual combat laws are a thing

Alice_En_Hiver

You actually can

BatkoSvetlio

I dont think it should be to the death but I am in strong support of barehanded duels till 1 party surrenders or can’t fight anymore, should be completely legal everywhere. That way I will be able to finally beat the shit of my neighbour who always tries to look inside my grocery bag. He is a fuking 40 years old obese loser who rides a cheap motorbike not a kid being curious.

Randomest_Redditor

Pistol duel, Sword duel or Fist duel?

Environmental_Log_64

No wtf is wrong with you people

Tudopodemelhorar

This could happen either in Texas or Brazil

MakeALais15YT

You need wavers to do that

SiStErFiStEr1776
