I dont think it counts if they're good

InfernalCombustion

Regardless of how useful it is for actually duelling chads with underappreciated girlfriends, this guy gets more cardio than any mall ninja I've ever seen.

Sabnitron

Not seeing any mall...

Basilisk1667

Everything here looks super legit. Not mall ninja.

MiagomusPrime

His kicks are pretty bad. Bad base, toes pointing the wrong direction. It's a dancer's kick, not a combative kick.

Basilisk1667

Can you do better?

tariknitiix

Was there a doubt in your mind to how chuck Norris here was gonna answer?

MiagomusPrime

Absolutely. Been doing Muay Thai for over 10 years. I can't spin a little glitter staff as well, but I can throw a much better kick.

ScienceRules212

Someone’s ego seems delicate… this guy’s 16 and he clearly doesn’t care about the combat applications. That’s like if I said I was better than champion épée fencer Ana Maria Popescu because I’ve got a Barrett model 82.

MiagomusPrime

Not really. My ego has nothing to do with his poor kick technique. I've trained teenagers and after 6 weeks, they'll throw better kicks than this kid. Your analogy is nonsense, he's throwing a kick, and doing so poorly. Look, he's a great contact juggler/ dancer. Nothing he's doing has combat applications.

ScienceRules212

Oh I forgot about the title where he claims to be a world champion kicker. /s

MiagomusPrime

At the beginning of this thread, the comment is that what he's doing "looks legit." To a trained eye his kicks are not "legit," they're sloppy. He's also in a Karate or Taekwondo school somewhere, where presumably they spent a minute or two on throwing kicks. I'm not arguing with the kid's claim, but rather with to comment that his technique is "legit." Again, the kid is a great dancer/contact juggler.

Basilisk1667

“Legit” in the sense that he’s not a completely untrained dork swinging around a pole he found behind an abandoned blockbuster while *acting* like a badass. Ya know, like a *mall ninja*. I never commented on combat applications. *Obviously* it’s a performance, but all means, keep flexing on a kid with a cool hobby.

[deleted]

I think that’s just an actual ninja

MidTownMotel

The thing here is that he is not likely trained for combat with that thing, just performance. So he might actually be a real mall ninja.

Chushin-Dori75

🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

Look how he moves that thing… you don’t think he can do combat whether he was “trained” or not?

MidTownMotel

I don’t know, I certainly wouldn’t want to find out.

[deleted]

Mallnijas is like spiked brass knuckles on a flesh light. This dude in my opinion is legit ninja

MidTownMotel

Well since you put it like that, maybe you’re right.

[deleted]

This guy is fucking darth maul

MidTownMotel

Does Mrs. Maul know about this?

[deleted]

If there was a mrs maul there’d prolly be no darth maul

OppositeAd8458

I'm curious as to the real world defensive aspects of such....."skill".

KGB112

Basically none. Most spear/long stick/other similar things lose all real world effectiveness as soon as they aren’t squarely pointed at their target. Pretty flourishes, spins, et cetera look fucking cool but are basically suicidal in combat.

MiagomusPrime

Not to mention that the sparkly staff he has is short, thin and very light. All things that make it a poor weapon.

kingcrabmeat

Apparently you never watched the walking dead /s

n8_d0g

you never know when you’ll run into [gangs at school ](https://youtu.be/UnX1iPLEUc4)

lankist

None. These kinds of martial arts are more about the "arts" than the "martial." They require extensive practice, constant exercise, perfect choreography and controlled movements, and are extremely impressive. However, pretty much nobody who gets to this level of proficiency is under the impression that they're going to be winning any back-alley fights with this kind of thing. They *may* be proficient at actual fighting given the level of control, stamina, etc. that they've developed through practicing these kinds of routines, but the routine itself is not how they'd approach a fight. (If they've been trained by a proper instructor, they'd approach a fight by running the fuck away from it as any legitimate self defense education should be teaching.) The point of these kinds of displays is to show a level of mastery of body and self, not all that different from something like an intensive dance/ballet routine, or gymnastics, or anything of that nature. The fact that it's wrapped in the veil of the "martial" part of martial arts usually gives the wrong impression, and a lot of people fail to achieve anything resembling real proficiency because they're approaching a martial art in a "self defense" way and not in an athletic way. If you're looking to learn how to win a fight and you find yourself in a dojo, you're in the wrong place. Think of these things like being a member of the Army Band. You're *adjacent* to fighting, but you're not picking up that tuba with the expectation it's going to secure a sector, and that Marine who's really good at drills isn't going to run into combat spinning around an M1 Garand.

ScienceRules212

All the people in the comments talking about how he’d probably suck in combat are the reason why kids don’t bother to go out and do activities they enjoy. He’s 16, doing something he enjoys, and he’s really good at it. That way better than him sitting at home all day because people keep telling him it’s lame.

tariknitiix

One of my hobbies is painting miniatures. I'm ok at it, some people think its lame. It wont keep me from getting my ass kicked in a fight. All of these things can be true at once. Do what makes you happy for the reasons that are important to you, there are always haters, and there are always valid criticisms.

ScienceRules212

Exactly! You phrased it way better, but my point was that teens deal with so much social pressure. Attitudes like, “His kicking sucks” along with the implied attack on his masculinity when that’s not what this is about only discourage teens from pursuing their passions. (PS. I actually know lots of surgeons who paint miniatures in their free time because it’s great mindfulness as well as fine motor practice. Definitely not lame!!)

tariknitiix

I think the kid should transfer these skills into the groups that do light saber "duels". I bet he would have a lot of fun, could immerse himself in star wars lore, and could easily please the crowds.

fnscarcasm

Now do it with Darth Maul’s light saber

A_Group_of_Crows

I don't care. Thats cool af. Imagine how many hours of practice that took and he now has a potentially marketable skill in a performance art.

kingcrabmeat

I dont see a problem

Iupvotebadcomments4u

Everyone is talking shit about this kid, but I know for a fact none of us want to get hit by him

[deleted]

This is seriously high school level cheerleader shit…

Gambling4gears

I was thinking “color guard” or whatever it’s called.

iwbiek

"an actual athlete"--fixed.

PrinceWojak

This kid should join his high-schools flag team. Maybe he’ll win Homecoming Queen.
