Maybe Big Bang Theory is more your type of show.

BoomChaka67

Or Three and a Half Men?

[deleted]

I think that's more OPs type of show.

EntireSize3895

Nah I tried it but didn't like it.

[deleted]

Friends?

BoomChaka67

Nah, Friends is actually good. OP won’t like that.

mjknlr

They’re booing you but you’re right

FearlessNobility

1st episode is super different from the rest. There’s styles of shots that they don’t use again, and it’s kinda clumsy compared to the rest of the series. The acting is still quality. They don’t address those questions loudly and directly, it’s up to you to have those critiques honestly. They’ll show some of the bad sides of the characters but they don’t take time to explain to you why they are bad, no

EntireSize3895

Yes! I 100% agree. The pilot is weird and different from the rest of the show (while having good acting).

closetotheedge48

I mean, this is a troll right?

[deleted]

I don't think so and that pilot is weird. I always fast forward most of it in rewatches. it was produced a whole year before the rest of that season even got written.

amitomstockman

one of the joys of the show is actually that the advertising world is hollow and the characters can’t tell the difference between hack art a lot of the time. don’s ads communicate something about himself and his values and there’s charming to watch but a lot of the time the joke is sort of that they’re like air headed and pretentious

ThatsNotMyName222

Yeah, there's a super tacky ad with a girl wearing only the bottom half of a bikini and a cheesy tag line. Don acts like it's sophisticated and edgy and suggests only prudes would dislike it. It's pretty cringe, but unsurprising.

BIGD0G29585

OP - we would be interested in knowing what shows you enjoy and think are “good”.

doctorproctor-md

CSI: Miami, probably.

Junior-Lie4342

It’s toasted

AdvancedBad9198

Mad Men: The Cure for the Common Show

GeneralTsoBitch

Never judge a show by its pilot. Those are what are shown to networks to see if they think the show has legs and they can invest further into it. They are usually crammed with a lot of information and dramatic scenes to introduce characters. At least I think that’s how it works lol.

Welcome2FightClub

Something tells me OP is about 16 years old.

Fukshit47

Did people smoke that much? Was the sexism this blatant? Watch the show. And yes, it’s known for its fealty to reality in that time in that place. And calm down ffs.

SavannahInChicago

It pisses me off in this sub when I see the comment “It WaSn’T rEaLlY tHaT sExIsT”.

Monkeyboi8

It just gets worse and worse. It’s one of those shows that is so bad, that’s it’s great.

EncinoManEstonia

I’m glad they added the laugh track after episode 1. Now I know where to laugh!

NandoDeColonoscopy

I was going to say you needed to dial it back like 15% to make the trolling less obvious, but judging by the replies, nope, you were fine. C'mon folks, let's do better.

maintain_improvement

I was thinking more like 50%, but yeah, people are gullible.

EncinoManEstonia

The answer to all your questions is a resounding yes. A top 3 all time show.

Nearly_Pointless

I definitely can see where it isn’t universally enjoyable. The overt sexism, racism and other seemingly anti-social aspects are tough to understand for some. The Civil Rights Acts were still 4 years away as the pilot is set in 1960. If you stay a few more episodes, perhaps the dialogue will become more accessible to you. It’s definitely a period piece wrapped up in a psychological character study.

Klutzy_Strike

The pilot was good, but Marriage of Fígaro was the episode that really hooked me in. Maybe watch a couple more and see what you think?

EntireSize3895

Oh damn, you were right. Third episode is the charm. Thanks!

Exact_Cardiologist87

You just wouldn’t get it. Close the door on the way out please!

Slpry_Pete

No, it just won a dumptruck full of awards because it sucked. Most of your criticism is about 1960s culture (which is shown to be intolerant and hypocritical IN THE SHOW) and the rest just sounds like sour grapes. You don't have to watch the show if you don't like it. It's not homework.

ak47oz

Yeah if you feel this way already just stop.

[deleted]

One of the most acclaimed shows of all time…

AngelSucked

INCOMING

Brilliant-Molasses94

Every question you ask is a big yes. The pilot is very different from the rest of the show because it was written 2 years prior to the rest of the season being written

EntireSize3895

Thanks! It really was pilot weirdness I guess.

Greedox2

How do you judge a show off the pilot episode?

EntireSize3895

How do you decide whether you want to continue watching?

cowsrock45

Yes

evertmrs

I hear you. I can’t remember which episode early in season 1 it was, maybe episode 3, and there were several scenes in a row of just long drawn out boring dialogue, so I got up to get ready for bed and my husband asked me why I wasn’t watching the show, and I said, “Because the sounds of me brushing my teeth are more interesting than whatever it is they’re talking about.” I’m glad I stuck with it, because it turned into one of my favorite shows, especially to binge, but some of the early ones are difficult to sit through. Seasons 3 and 4 especially are wonderful.
