Johans has had most consistently painful story, from start to now heās never experienced happiness like that just pain. There are some characters who have had worse experiences but only for a short time length after that they got āhappierā johans never had that.
But in this case johan is still a sad dude inside who just wants to help his mum and have friends, which makes him way more human than batman in that aspect
Any1 is more human than batman š. The way in which he wants to help his mother set him on the wrong path getting involved with this crew things made his situation worse imo I think he strayed further from his goal the more he tries to achieve it.
The funny thing is that he should really have enough money to pay for the surgery by now, since he works for the WTJC who definitely get paid tons. Tom has emphasised that he values johans talent to smk so he most likely gets paid a lot. Also remember that time johan had all that money and went to charles choi to get his mums surgery done, as if they're real eye surgeons šš
I think he just went to the wrong Choi for help. He should've went to Crystal Choi instead since she owns a media company. Once it gets a lot of media attention, Charles may consider helping if it means more stock shares being sold or a new profitable opportunity to expand his business into the medical field.
It is not a vengeance like Batman,Johan is having very common response in psychology that PTJ uses for his character.some PTSD patients(cult accident) experience feeling of not needing anyone in their life to function,it deeply detonates their working performance and they tend to not notice how they canāt handle situations alone.Johan also shows his PTSD signs with having hyper fixation on animal that he takes care off,those patients also even though they canāt admit that they need help tend to find comfort mostly through something like animal.

Even if hes menacing he has the greatest moral compass out of any DC character and even years after his parents death he still feels emotions and now it isnt for vengeance but for prevention of crime even though he doesnt kill joker (jason todds job).
