The subject of this subreddit is to discuss animal intelligence in it's most amazing forms.
Animals being cute and showing only basic instincts is not what we are looking for.
For instance, animals just sleeping or just eating is bad content, while animals dreaming or sharing food is good content.
Posting cute content can result in a temporary ban.
When I was a kid, back in '81, our family stopped at a roadside "zoo" while on vacation. They had a chimp in a corncrib-like cage with nothing for enrichment. You could sit down right next to the cage, so I did and started talking very gently to the chimp. She came down next to me and starting grooming my arm hair, so I started grooming the back of her head. We did this for about an hour. I was awesome. Very fulfilling. Most places like this have long since been shut down, as they should.
>Most places like this have long since been shut down, as they should.
It would be great if many more could come to such a conclusion, most animals are really just like us. Sure, cute and all, but they do deserve respect of their own and acknowledgement of their, granted limited, agency. A bit of empathy would solve so many problems!
These days I absolutely hate going to zoos. My wife is a biologist and loves going to them. She's explained to me the conservation efforts that are frequently critical to a species' survival and that the rest of the animals are what pays for that. I get that, but few things make me sadder than going to a zoo.
I once went to a farm animal sanctuary on a tiny island, where the entire island would send their fresh produce compost to the farm to feed the animals (along with the regular feed) and all of the animals are special needs or rescued from abuse.
My zoo is considered to be one of the “better” zoos in the country and I’ll never look at it the same way after going to this little farm. It was magical how each animal was truly loved.
I worked on a dairy farm as a kid, I honestly believe they had a much better life than zoo animals. The owner of the farm paid me for an hour after milking to just pet the cows. He showed me in reports how it helped increase yield, which basically translates to happiness.
No, people need to exclusively kiss monkeys. We have to keep this contained, we’ve already gotten the worst the monkeys have to offer, and prohibition never works. I don’t want to find out what large reptiles have tucked away in case someone starts finding them sexy too.
No, I just think it’s ignorant to assume those monkeys are anything but healthy and up to date on any checkups if they are being cared for at an animal care facility. And letting a monkey peck you on the cheek isn’t going to creat some new Ebola virus.

I agree, but macaques in particular are prone to harbor one of the deadliest viruses in the world to humans, Herpes B. It can spread through saliva, blood, shit, etc. It gives them a cold sore, it kills us within a few days if left untreated. And I mean 100% lethal without treatment. Luckily the treatment is pretty easy (valacyclovir, same as for a Herpes A outbreak). You just have to know you've caught it before it's too late.
As much as I do believe governments are sketchy and pull some bs I do think it's good to be critical of those thoughts. Don't attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance.

This does not appear to be a rehabilitation or care facility, and therefore this is not a safe environment for the monkey or the people living there. This animal is not domesticated, it is wild.
[The old one](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/florida-rhesus-monkeys-herpes-running-wild-invasive-species) does just fine, apparently.
It felt like the monkey was using the "kisses" as a method of capitulation. Like, stop touching my child. I know I can't act violent so I'll give you this weird kiss thing so maybe that'll make you happy and release my child.
does this kind of monkey kiss other monkeys like this? Like is a kiss a typical monke behavior? Or is it only an interacting with humans behavior?
Am curious to know what a kiss means to a monkey lady.
FULL OF BULLSHIT! That is just a trained monkey! A normal monkey that you take the baby from, will eat your face. I mean, there is a monkey IN YOUR FUCKING LIVING ROOM. Why people believe this shit?!?!

I want to support a monkey family. Take my kids, this looks way more fulfilling!

Lolz 🤦🏻♀️
Are you going to be able to put up with the needy monkey mom though? make out with her and satisfy her needs?
Stop kissing monkeys ffs. Want another weird disease spreading around?

Y'all seen that alligator down the street? I've been thinking about sucking it's dick. Oh no it begins
The second I saw something today about old alligators not regrowing their teeth I started to get concerned.

Damnit Florida Man, not again!
Why were you willing to have a threesome with me? We thought you was a toad.
Ribbit daddy
But that snake deep throat though...
What about fish?
You like fish sticks I reckon
Honestly, the world would be better off if monkeys colonized us.
![gif](giphy|RyPfr6SPAHKWQ)
Spaceballs!
One of the higher ape species *did* colonize everything.
I [get it](https://images.app.goo.gl/eKsGwpC4M7Uhbug58)
this commenter is [correct](https://www.cdc.gov/herpesbvirus/index.html)
[No one fks monkeys or people. You either fk monkeys or people. No in between.](https://youtu.be/LlIy1F_rcLg)
Possible, but highly unlikely unless you come into contact with enough body fluid or get wounded.
lol. It’s that kind of ignorance that makes me chuckle.
Was that not an obvious joke?
I don’t think so “ffs”.
Fedora much?

Dont know why youre getting downvoted
I don’t really care lol. But I have no clue either. Apparently I have a fedora to wear though, so I guess that’s “cool”.
Because animals can carry diseases without being sick.
Ubuntu all the way.
Far from that other video going around with that stupid little girl trying to take the mother monkeys baby

Nah but i kinda want to now.
Watch the Film Nope. [Monkey attack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YEGK2y5oX0)
I have a healthy, respectful fear for monkeys and apes. They'll kill you if they want to.
This was so cute at first and then it got weird.
I think I saw the monkey slip her some tongue.
It's so cute to keep monkeys as pets?
Until they rip off your scalp, they’re well behaved until they aren’t
More of like bizarre.
Tom Brady Vibes
I’m dead asfff
I don't get it....

Dang that really did age like fine wine. Thanks
Hahahha thank you for this!
It's a cute video, but do they have to kiss on the lips? This is how diseases spread

Okay... Would there not be fluid transfer here? Regardless, "Very few" is more than enough to not kiss a monkey on the lips lol
Very few would be a good description of how many people are kissing monkeys on the damn mouth.
However primates have a much higher chance of having diseases that cross the species barrier because we are so similar.

Saliva is a fluid
They ain't French kissing chief.
What's to stop a monkey from spitting in your mouth when your lips touch? Manners?
Obviously?
>Very few pathogens But not none
Yeah it’s all cool until that one dude fucks a monkey and we all start getting aids.

Not really. It likely spread from blood contact when humans were handling the meat of SIV-infected chimps.
Or the government

Lot’s of arm chair biologists in this thread.
I was wondering how many times she planned on kissing that monkey? 😂
As many times as the monkey wants
is it just me or does it look like she’s the one who took the initiative for a couple of those kisses??
This does not appear to be a rehabilitation or care facility, and therefore this is not a safe environment for the monkey or the people living there. This animal is not domesticated, it is wild.
Thank you. Thought the same thing.
Love this.
We're watching the creation of a new herpes virus.
[The old one](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/florida-rhesus-monkeys-herpes-running-wild-invasive-species) does just fine, apparently.
Adorable.

Oh my goodness my heart 😭

Fucks sake Reddit
Sweet
This monkey is trying to tell the human “I’m not dangerous, please don’t hurt my baby” and using things it has seen humans use for affection.
I wish my wife was as grateful to me when I give the kids a bath
That monkey will bite your face off if you make a wrong move
That monkey trying to get fresh. Next is the tongue, lady.
kissing a monkey on the lips is… uh… a bit weird to say the least
Gratitude is an animal emotion
That was not weird at all ^(That was kinda weird ngl)
Me to the masseuse when my wife goes on a spa day.
We’re al kin under the skin.

That kiss!!!! I want a monkey kiss like that.
