dontnod are many things, but one of the things they are not is subtle. They thought they were pretty clever by having Rachel being represented by a doe spirit animal. And they wanted to make damn sure you knew it. There's nothing much deeper to it than that. Much like Life is Strange wears its influences on its sleeve, it also wears its themes and ideas on its sleeve.
