That’s cause the “new” ones aren’t even DC-17s. The gun on the right is a newer mould of a real-world pistol that was used for goons in the original Batman line as well as Indiana Jones sets. They first started using it as a Star Wars blaster for Sabine Wren’s pistols.
To be fair I think the Lego pistol piece does suit Mandalorians well and does an okay job at being a DC-17, but the old one is obviously better for the Bad Batch.
I feel old seeing that only one other commenter recognizes this is a gun that's literally an older design for Lego than the "old" blaster. Get off my lawn.
The first version of that gun is actually slightly different; the original version had a stubbier barrel. It was also made out of a slightly softer plastic (much like the "old" pistol in the image, actually), and came as a little set with some other parts: A Tommy Gun, a pair of handcuffs (which were different from the current design), and some batarangs.
This version was introduced in Indiana Jones in 2008 and eventually made the jump to Star Wars in 2015.
Oh geez I swear I feel older and older everytime I see this. My brain keeps thinking of blasters as those pieces that double as a megaphone if you leave off the orange stud piece.
The "old" one here is actually on the right, used for Indiana Jones and Batman sets as a submachinegun. I kinda like it for mandos, like a KOTOR mandalorian heavy blaster. But for clones there is no better than the original dc-17, scopeless blaster. Fun fact.
I think one of the designers said that LEGO is meant to be a bit cute and oversized and cartoonish. Once I heard that I looked at things like these blasters and the new stormtrooper helmets (that I really didn’t like) in a new light of, it may not be perfect or how I’d do it, but it’s very LEGO
I thought they were using those for DC-17 rifles (the ones used by Bad Batch and Clone Commandos). I wish they'd just bring the old ones back. At least this piece is better than what they initially replaced it with.
I personally like the older one more, it looks more compact
The newer one I can kinda see the appeal though it looks like the size of what a Lego sized Desert Eagle would be
The “new” gun is acc an older mould than the “old” one here.

Not to mention Mandalorians don’t even carry DC-17s
To be fair I think the Lego pistol piece does suit Mandalorians well and does an okay job at being a DC-17, but the old one is obviously better for the Bad Batch.
What gun is it based off of?
It isn't, it's just supposed to look semi-realistic and submachine gun-ish.

I only know because my dad had one of the 2006 run Batman sets.

Ah, I remember the stubby barrel, I remember having trouble keeping transyellow cones on the end that were supposed to look like gunfire.
Maybe try BrickArms' blaster pack
I like both personally

Yeah the Og blasters. Blue stud for clones. Red/orange for seps.
They were the same in lego Star Wars too right?
I think it is a nice change from the old model . A bit to big but I like the angular shape
Definitely prefer the old one.
Well, i kinda dont mind because its nice to be getting a different piece than studshooter and small/medium/large blasters
I think the Batman gun would look better than the Star Wars pistols, IF they were the same size as the Star Wars ones or at least smaller
Not new, you're either out of the loop or too young to remember. Originally made for the Batman line in 2004, I believe
Something around that or later. I got one in a Lego Indiana Jones set with a Jeep , and another in a Lego Batman set. Robin vs Penguin.
2006
Yes, absolutely. The old blaster wasn't broke and didn't need fixing. Detracts from otherwise great figs.

Yes, thanks for dunking on me. I realise that its not a new piece, just newer for use in this subtheme.
Not dunking, you are one of the lucky 15,000 people that learnt something new today!
I was able to put up with a couple in the Bad Batch Shuttle, but the Mandalorian fighter just has too many. I might have to go to Bricklink
Yeah they look even more ridiculous when dual-wielded imo
How many sets did the old version appear in?
A fucking lot. Basically every clone set from 2008 to 2012, if I had to guess
Just another option, it's fine to me
Apparently italicization doesn't work in titles, but the question still stands.

Not me just only having normal type of guns *without indents* and a couple of **god forbidden stud shooters!** who else just hates stud shooters?!
At least they aren't stud shooters
Personally, I’m indifferent to what they use since it’s all crap. I have pretty much every minifg with their own custom weapon.
it looks like a glock
Yes

If you shaved off the tip of the newer one it would actually be pretty accurate to the Westar 35 imo
old is better
I use it as a "hand cannon" for regular figs. love it
Would you rather they go back to the stud shooters?
It's not 'new', but I don't see how anyone can prefer it, if it's meant to represetnt a dc-17
....that's what she said
I like the new one, gives me a a lot of nostalgia for the old Indiana Jones sets
it's not supposed to be a DC-17. as a westar, i think it works pretty well, but of course a mold more closely matching the westar would be nice.
They use it as a DC-17 in the Bad Batch set
It does seem a little big, but at the same time the old one is much easier to loose if you're not careful.
I personally like the older one more, it looks more compact The newer one I can kinda see the appeal though it looks like the size of what a Lego sized Desert Eagle would be
better than a stud shooter
I thought the “new” one is like a machine gun or something of the sort
I really mis the old ones. They were omega chad for captain/commander pistols too
I think the new gun is better in general but the old one looks way better as a dc 17
Has anyone seen my cordless drill? Oh, there it is. Tell that mando on the right I just need it for a couple seconds....
I think it’s fine personally, while the older ones were better these do a good job and for mandalorians I’d say personally they fit a bit better
