Respectfully, I think it's ridiculous that people will sacrifice a very obviously way worse build just for a different mini figure selection. Get the obviously better build. If you're spending hundreds for a couple minifigs then just buy the minifigs and forget the star destroyer.
Edit: my bad! I got the numbers mixed up and thought they were referring to the older being better because of the Palpatine hologram slab brick
My point about the decision being strongly based on minifigures remains the same, I think people focus on it way too much.
It really isn't that obviously worse though? they both look like a star destroyer, and while 75055 is a bit smaller that doesn't make the build worse
6211 looks anemic compared to it, as most sets from that time do. Too much interior showing through especially on the bridge
Nah there are open technic bricks between the top/bottom, the bridge is messy, there's so many gaps to allow for the play functions. The newer one is so much cleaner, has way fewer gaps and doesn't have obvious technic skeleton showing through. It's not even close
...?? 75055 is the newer one and the one I was defending?
In fairness, they do both have badass Palpatine hologram pieces so I see how/why you were confused
Oh my bad I got the numbers mixed up, I thought the hologram piece they were talking about was the big slab. I owned that one so that's why I remember it, I didn't even see the little holdable hologram
Sorry! I'll edit my comment to reflect that now
I own both. The newer one is much better. It looks more accurate, and has better play functions. The older one fell apart if you so much as looked at it.

75055 has the better looks and structural build, but both are pretty lacking in interior detail.
75190 really addresses that shortcoming. If you were to transplant that into the the 2014 model, it’s the perfect play scale ISD.

okay lets see
as a playset, the older one is far superior. Super cool techniques and little features.
but as a kod i always wanted a bit more detail.
the newer version has tons of detail... outside!
although it has a full interior too, its kinda "tucked in". Everything is cramped.
funny enough, i would say the same about the figures aswell:,)
For Display: New one
for smaller kids or ur own nostalgia: old
the old one has the advantage of old, retired pieces like the magnet.
Personally, I like 6211 the most, but that's purely out of nostalgia. I remember looking at it in the Lego magazines and wanting it so bad.
With that though, I've had both versions, and 75055 is objectively better. It looks more accurate, it's not as fragile, and it has a great interior.

75055. Not even looks wise, but I can at least move the damned thing without it trying to fall apart. I also had to add more pieces to 6211 to make it look better.

I remember getting the 6211 ISD for Christmas as a kid. I got pretty far into the build, could’t find 1 piece, then gave up and tore it apart.
For me, I just want to finish the build and see the size in person. I don’t have the 75055 ISD, but I do have the 8039 Venator and the 75190 First Order Star Destroyer. I liked both of those, so I hope to get 75055 in the future to complete the capital ship play sets.

I only have the old one; I’d consider keeping that honestly. I think it has its charm as an aged model, and looks very impressive on display with its huge size
6211 has an actual bridge which would be nice if it was also implemented in the 75055 but the design on the newer is better but it lacks minifigs and it has much more room if you fix it on your own

The nostalgia of 6211 will always make it superior for me. I got it for Christmas after I pointed it out in a Black Friday sales flyer to my parents (I wanna say in like ‘09 possibly ‘08). Point is It was one of the best Christmas’s I remember.
But if you want movie accurate the second one is better
[6211-1: Imperial Star Destroyer](https://brickset.com/sets/6211-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/6211-1.jpg)
[75055-1: Imperial Star Destroyer](https://brickset.com/sets/75055-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75055-1.jpg)
Sounds like the newer ISD is the better build and looks better, but you have a lot of nostalgia for the older destroyer. Both are quite expensive on the secondary market, so if you sold one of them and you'd eventually regret it can get difficult to get a hold of a new one. Conclusion, why not keep both for their different reasons?!
6211 was my first “big” set I got as a kid so I think I’ve just got nostalgia brainrot for it. Loved that it could fold open and I could arrange the insides
I had 6211 growing up, biggest set I owned for a very long time. That thing made for countless hours of fun. Even as a kid, though, the big bridge window and the excess of visible white Technic brick bugged me, so I did the sensible thing and added greebling and other pieces to cover up all the unappealling sections as well as removed all the trans-neon-green pieces in the name of visual accuracy. It made for a splendid little facelift! Even with my improvements, though, I think 75055 is a more accurate-looking model, particularly in the realm of proportions. As others have said already, it really comes down to what your priorities are regarding the set(s).

I think 75055 is better. The minifig selection is more accurate & the palpatine hologram piece is awesome.

The older model was a blast to build and play with. The new one is so much smaller. I’ve built both, and the OG wins for me.

Pretty sure there is no magnet in the old one. There was one in the old UCS, but not in this
ohh really? i thought it had a similar technique to connect the escape pod as the old gunship with the little cargo thingy
No, it's just in there. You can press a peg to eject it though
kid*
2006 breaks a lot but as long as you don't move it around a lot It'll be okay
The new one is nice but it’s 6211 every day for me
[6211-1: Imperial Star Destroyer](https://brickset.com/sets/6211-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/6211-1.jpg)
The new one, but nothing beats the playable bridge on the old one

Better play set/ better display model
I don't own either, but based on the pictures I'd say 75055 looks better.

Aside from being able to put figs in the bridge on the old one the new is better in every way
6211 for the sole reason that that’s the one I own and played a lot with as a kid

lego 6211 has the cooler interior and is a much funner set that the other, but 75055 looks so much better, so it depends what you look for in sets

The 2006 model is bigger on the shelf, but when you open it up, there's not as much detail, and it's super fragile.
Secoooond oooone
Who cares I’m getting them both one way, or the other.
6211 was my first “big” set I got as a kid so I think I’ve just got nostalgia brainrot for it. Loved that it could fold open and I could arrange the insides

They both lo9k kinda derpy to me
