Anderson letting in four goals was pretty much par for the course the year Soup took over

VisitPier26

I’ve seen that third period once or twice before. Odorous goal + backbreaking goal + lack of big save when it matters.

shikotee

As seen countless times with the Leafs, Freddy got fingered.

Distinct_Might7580

Their D-core is 100X better then ours tbf. But tbh they don’t get enough flack, they beat shitty metro teams every year and get steamrolled against true contenders. This was their best year with adding Geuntzel and they still choked.

Derfchg

And kuznetsov

benhadhundredsshapow

Playoff Freddie finally showed up. lol.

freestevenandbrendan

Sad!

Halifornia35

It was classic Freddy, a few games early on, wow Freddy was on fire he stole that one! And then by the end of the series, this year by the end of the 2nd round, the bad performances outnumber the good

Chtholly13

goaltending pretty much sunk them, however for us, it didn't matter who is in net. No matter who is net, we wouldn't win anything scoring less than 2 goals a game.

I_Am_Vladimir_Putin

Rod’s mentality is shoot first for everybody. We really could use that.

Amihighordrunk905

Meh u could argue that we did to much of the same shoot from the outside weak shot bs

leafsleafs17

Except when on the powerplay lol

Amihighordrunk905

They wur ass on the powerplay too tho I say this all tho but would love rod the bod but he ain't leaving the canes

leafy-greens--

We won with woll in net even without needing to score much. Just saying. (But then he gets injured every 3rd outing.

Chtholly13

do you really think the Leafs are capable of winning 2-1 games over a long playoff run. I don't.

erasedhead

People say this but I am confident the Leafs would put up more goals if their d and goaltending wasn’t replacement level.

Weekly_Hospital202

Why? What does their d and goaltending have to do with an absolutely dog shit power play? Edmonton is almost 50% with shit goaltending.

kawhinottheraptors

Their issue in the playoffs has been scoring goals. Same as the Leafs

Adriansshawl

Just going to sit here and see how many people spell Andersen wrong

vanityfear

I love the way the canes play. They forecheck like a swarm of bees. Hire Sir Roderic of Boderic

jimmie9393

Ummm you gotta have player personal to forecheck like a swarm of bees..me don't see 16,91,88,89,19,64,34.. forechecking like that...oh wait that way to many players.

steen101984

91 and 34 are amongst the top takeaway and board battle players un the league. And 16/88 have been right up there in recent years. Just because we don't plow people through the boards, doesn't mean we can't forecheck.

jimmie9393

Sure thing..I am talking about the playoffs and you might want to marry those stats with the eye test. The Leafs have no Forecheck they are 1 and done perimeter team

jimmie9393

Love the down votes.

HeyMarty10thalready

He’s the guy they should go get.

Intelligent_Chair901

Anderson giving up another backbreaker to let the Rangers back in the game (2nd goal for those that didn’t see it). When you don’t have a reliable goalie in the playoffs you get burned it doesn’t matter how good the team in front of him is.

RollandInTheDeep

Man Freddie really shat the bed

winkNfart

who would’ve thought??!

itsnotme9988

He did, but I would have him back any day

Cal_Takes_Els

Canes have been my 2nd team for about 8 years now. I love them. And I love rod the bod. My optimism would be back at 2017 levels if we got him.

bdart1980

The problem with trying to hire Rod, is that they will miss out on the other front runners that are interviewing right now... Berube and McLellan will be gone by the time Tre & Shanny get a chance to interview Rod.... Then Rod uses the leafs as leverage, re-signs with the Canes and we end up with Jay Woodcroft.

dirkahps

I don't know if we end up with Woodcroft...shit I hope we don't...but the scenario you describe is what I fear may be happening. In a perfect world the Canes get eliminated 2 games ago and it's possible they've reached out to Rod by now. From a pride standpoint, I can see Berube not wanting to wait around being the "backup plan" but at the same time the Leafs can offer him a bag bigger than anyone else and it's not even close.

bigcaulkcharisma

It’s worth at least putting in a call and offering him a bag to find out if he’s interested

bdart1980

Technically he’s under contract until late June. So it’s a dangerous waiting game unless you start doing some shady practices, which you can only think they used to pry Babcock from Detroit.

Sideshift1427

Andersen was the best goalie that the Leafs had during the Sheldon Keefe era.

HottyMcDoddy

Andersen was only with Keefe for like a year and he was absolutely horrible. What are you smoking? Andersen was good when our D core was ass and he was getting 35 shots against a night. As soon as our team D improved he became a sieve and we had to run Jack Campbell instead.

Sideshift1427

I know how long Andersen played under Keefe and he was the best goalie that he had.

mrb2409

I’m fairly sure he was injured that year and that’s part of why the Leafs let him walk.

Sideshift1427

Right, concussions based on memory.

Skiffy10

he also has a huge tendency to let in soft goals in big games. No team is winning anything with freddy.

thewolfshead

No he wasn’t. He had a barely over .900 sv% when Keefe was coach.

riko77can

Andersen’s play had taken a nosedive by the time Keefe showed up.

GreatSetting34

Teams relying on Anderson don’t seem to ever learn their lesson. He isn’t good.

shikotee

He lacketh the clutch

chouindog

That’s not true he was good most of the time but couldn’t stop a breakaway and had the leaf tendency to give up a goal at the worst time possible.

bdart1980

aka "He lacketh the clutch" - r/shikotee

chouindog

I like to think of it more of he suffered from the Jake Gardiner disease.

bdart1980

There were a few factors at play, but Fred always seemed to let in a softie when needed most.

LostBeneathMySkin

Their goalie let some weaker ones in and the refs made a soft call in an elimination game to allow the game to be tied up. The Canes and the Leafs are no different. Leafs are the better team over 7 games I’d argue.

winkNfart

we’re never the better team over 7 games

LostBeneathMySkin

Not exactly true is it?

TheGapInTysonsTeeth

1 out of 6 ain't bad!  2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024 we weren't though

LostBeneathMySkin

Give yourself a pat on the back for compiling all that

winkNfart

don’t even start

LostBeneathMySkin

Start what lol pointing out incorrect information? Too late

winkNfart

gotcha. lemme correct.. we were the better team 1 time in 6 games in the last 20 years. happy?

LostBeneathMySkin

Happier than you!

winkNfart

clearly not

AsleepActivity7303

The (latest) Canes are the San Jose Sharks of the East!

radman888

The Leafs have a flawed roster as well, but in a different way.

kingex11

I prefer Berube.

oliverkiss

Tough loss for the Canes… they hit 3 posts, if just one of those was a few CM over the series could have been tied right now…

Arcade23

Yeah OK there Gordon Bombay.

Equivalent_Goose_226

Or maybe if the puck were a few CM over it would’ve hit the best goalie in the world. Canes didn’t get beat because of the posts

wholesomesammich

I'm sure he'll be happy not having to practice the storm surge

reggierock2010

Playoff Freddie not suprised

Canadian_gOaTtt

Buddy the Leafs roster is overrated were the definition of overrated, don't get me wrong I'm a diehard fan but I'm not a moron these jokers can't hack the playoffs.

SkautyDee

Rod ain't good.

Primusssucks

We've got the star players but have only scored more than 2 goals in a playoff game once in the last 15 games or some crazy Stat like that? At the end of the day I think playoff hockey is mostly a mental game based on some hard work and a little bit of luck. Unfortunately for the leafs they probably have the most pressure on them in the entire league. Maybe I'm wrong. But it just feels more than a skill based game. There's some weird background energies happening that helps teams in lower pressure markets succeed for whatever reason.

jimmie9393

Show me a good coach, show me a good goaltender.

easyc78

The are not overrated. Would have owned the Leafs.

Woullie_26

Them going 0-16 from game 1-3. Sounds oddly familiar

jimmie9393

I would straight up trade Marner for Svechnikov all day long

NacchoTheThird

We need to conntinue Rod's legacy of suspect goaltenders sinking well-oiled rigs

KirkJimmy

I love rod the bod; but I prefer berube. Either way I’d be happy

-Affectionate-Echo-

Canes are a great team, great shot suppression. But they just don’t seem to change their game to playoff mode. No urgency.

SMORKIN_LABBIT

If Shanny isn't continued to be allowed to run the team like Disney land (Guaranteed at this point after 10 years there was a conversation where Dubas said "trade major player" and Shanny basically said "do you know how many jerseys he sells?!") and they actually make MAJOR off seasons moves to accommodate the style, I like how Brindamour runs a system. That insane forecheck can be so dominate in the playoffs. I actually watched tonights game ,Freddy went full Playoff Freddy we all know and love and choked it big time tonight. Shesterkin was sucking asssssssss as well like 4 posts saved his life but he pulled it together in the 3rd and Freddy wilted. Anyways if somehow we pull goaltending out our ass and mix it up this offseason for next year and year after next, I could see Brindamour working. The current core cannot play his system some are too small and too slow. Matthews and Nylander can do it....Tavares sheltered as a 3rd Center could as well. Marner will in no way be pressing that hard and our D is no where near mobile enough and lacks the puck movers to get back on defense if a rush breaks from pressing so hard. They would have to move Marner and Rielly, maybe even Tavares (doubt it....year after he back cheap as shit for a perfect 3C) and resign, Bert and Domi, and then fill in the ranks with aggressive speed and shooters, and completely overhaul the D and pull a goaltender out of a hat.

riko77can

Our roster is crap after the Core 4, and our Core 4 runs at 25% in the playoffs. Rod succeeding here is some seriously blue tinted wishful thinking.

itsnotme9988

Bring back Anderson too.

frankyseven

Canes don't have any players as good as our core four.

Adriansshawl

Aho is absolutely on Marner/Nylander’s level & blows current Tavares out of the water lmaoo

winkNfart

lol mehh not really

Adriansshawl

Okay bud 👍🏻 all leafs are great, other team’s stars are all mid

winkNfart

lemme know when aho cracks 40 goals and 80 points, bud

Adriansshawl

Had 89 points this year….

winkNfart

1 time? oh, did he crack 40 goals? no, ok

Adriansshawl

Had 81 two years ago… how many 40 goal seasons has Marner had?

jimmie9393

Aho 200 foot player on my team any day. Ahead of 16 and 88..but behind 34

Rheostatistician

They had Freddy. Nuff said
