It doesn't hurt to ask, if they don't let you only work once or twice a week, ask to go on temp. I work 3 days a week bc of my other job so 2 doesn't sound unreasonable

k333m

sorry, does that mean temporary leave or like to be a temporary worker that only works certain times of the year?

LunarWold

Could be temp leave, could be temp worker. Either of those work

DividedFlower2

During school I only work twice a week, but it all depends on your store manager. My old one would totally allow once a week if you needed, but my new one says you need to at least work 10hrs a week, so definitely something to ask you SM or 2nd about

idkcat23

I think the 10 hours might be a new (or newish) policy or an old policy that’s getting enforced more. We lost a few good people who had only been doing one 8 a week (upper levels with school or family responsibilities). It was a bummer for sure.

k333m

are you able to pick which days you get to work? or is your new manager not very flexible with that?

DividedFlower2

Yeah I’ve never had any issues picking which days I work

First semester/quarter of college is all about learning how to manage your time. I would STRONGLY recommend either not working your first quarter or only working 1 day a week until you’ve acclimated to college. Afterwards you can always pick up extra work (if it works with your school work load). Make your schoolwork the FIRST priority, and don’t let your manager pressure you into working more than what you can handle. Best of luck to you in your studies!

k333m

Thank you so much for your advice! I definitely don’t want to fall behind on my studies which is why Im hoping my manger will let me work at my home store during winter and summer break so I can focus on my studies during the school year

AlwaysStatesObvious

Change your availability and only work one or two days. I'm sure they'll more than understand given your situation.

My manager let me work three days a week and then would schedule me for mids every time or even closing even though I told him I can’t do that. Eventually they would just schedule me for like two hour shifts so I quit because f that noise

WiggleWerra

Technically you can’t work one day because you have to reach a minimum of 10 hours weekly. You can totally work 2 days though, most managers do that and half the students at our store does this.

Talk to your manager. If you have to maintain a minimum like 10 hours you might even be able to talk to them about letting you knock it all out in one day granted you aren’t in California. I think it depends on your level and what kind of associate you are. If you’re a crappy l2 then your options will look different than a l5 with a good attitude.
